(richter syndrome) Transformation of chronic lymphocytic leukemia into aggressive non-Hodgkin lymphoma, usually diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (immunoblastic or centroblastic variant). Occasional cases of transformation to Hodgkin lymphoma have also been described, particularly in patients treated with purine nucleotide analogues.
