The active metabolite of the pro-drug enalapril, a dicarboxylate-containing angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor with antihypertensive activity. Enalaprilat prevents the conversion of angiotensin I into angiotensin II by inhibiting ACE, thereby leading to decreased vasopressor activity and resulting in vasodilation.
