(erbb receptor family protein) A family of cellular proteins encoded by the c-erbB genes, including epidermal growth factor receptor. They are normally expressed in a variety of tissues of epithelial, mesenchymal, and neuronal origin. They are overexpressed in a significant portion of adenocarcinomas found at various sites, especially in the breast.
