Etymology:
Greek glottis; taken from the Greek without any change in meaning
In earlier Greek, it meant the mouthpiece of a flute, and was later used of the larynx. Glottis was related to glotta, the tongue.
Definitions related to glottis:
  • Subdivision of the larynx which consists of the right and left vocal cords and the rima glottidis. Examples: There is only one glottis.
