  • A species of aerobic, Gram negative, rod shaped bacteria in the phylum Proteobacteria. This species is motile, non spore forming, oxidase positive and able to degrade styrene and many aromatic hydrocarbons found in fuel oil. P. putida is rarely pathogenic and one strain can convert morphine to hydromorphine.
