BACKGROUND
Internet-based telerehabilitation could be a valuable option for the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders, with the advantage of providing rehabilitation from anywhere. However, there is no solid and updated evidence demonstrating its effectiveness on relevant clinical and cost outcomes.
OBJECTIVE
This systematic review aims to determine the clinical and cost-effectiveness of internet-based telerehabilitation during the recovery of musculoskeletal disorders.
METHODS
Medline, Web of Science, Scopus and Cochrane databases were systematically searched from inception to June 2023. Trials investigating the effects of internet-based telerehabilitation in any musculoskeletal disorder were selected. Nonoriginal articles and grey literature were excluded. Two independent reviewers conducted the study selection and data extraction. Random effect meta-analyses (standardized mean difference) and further sensitivity analyses were performed.
RESULTS
We selected 37 clinical trials (33 randomized and 4 non-randomized) and 5 health economics studies, which included a total of 4,288 participants. Telerehabilitation was more favourable than control treatments in improving all studied clinical outcomes, although the effectiveness varied depending on the type of musculoskeletal disorder. The standard mean differences (SMD) ranged from 0.24 to 0.91. For physical function, the primary outcome, superior effectiveness was found only in people with hip fractures (SMD, 0.87; 95 % CI, 0.34 to 1.41). The effects for joint replacement, osteoarthritis, and spine pain were similar to those of control treatments. However, the favourable outcomes for telerehabilitation became insignificant when compared specifically to face-to-face rehabilitation. Some results displayed publication bias and a lack of robustness, necessitating cautious interpretation. In terms of health economics studies, telerehabilitation was 89.55$ (95 % CI 4.6 to 174.5) cheaper per individual than conventional treatments.
CONCLUSIONS
Telerehabilitation should be considered in the recovery process of musculoskeletal disorders when optimal face-to-face rehabilitation is not feasible. Moreover, telerehabilitation reduces costs and time.

BACKGROUND
This study systematically summarizes quantitative imaging biomarker research in non-traumatic neck and shoulder musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). There were two research questions: 1) Are there quantitative imaging biomarkers associated with the presence of neck and shoulder MSDs?, 2) Are there quantitative imaging biomarkers associated with the severity of neck and shoulder MSDs?
METHODS
PubMed and SCOPUS were used for the literature search. One hundred and twenty-five studies met primary inclusion criteria. Data were extracted from 49 sufficient quality studies.
RESULTS
Most of the 125 studies were cross-sectional and utilized convenience samples of patients as both cases and controls. Only half controlled for potential confounders via exclusion or in the analysis. Approximately one-third reported response rates. In sufficient quality articles, 82% demonstrated at least one statistically significant association between the MSD(s) and biomarker(s) studied. The literature synthesis suggested that neck muscle size may be decreased in neck pain, and trapezius myalgia and neck/shoulder pain may be associated with reduced vascularity in the trapezius and reduced trapezius oxygen saturation at rest and in response to upper extremity tasks. Reduced vascularity in the supraspinatus tendon may also be a feature in rotator cuff tears. Five of eight studies showed an association between a quantitative imaging marker and MSD severity.
CONCLUSIONS
Although research on quantitative imaging biomarkers is still in a nascent stage, some MSD biomarkers were identified. There are limitations in the articles examined, including possible selection bias and inattention to potentially confounding factors. Recommendations for future studies are provided.

OBJECTIVE
Pediatric inflammatory bowel disease (p-IBD) is a chronic relapsing gastrointestinal disorder of childhood with long-term morbidity. Several extraintestinal manifestations are described, the most common being joint pain and/or inflammation. However, patient and disease characteristics, treatments, and outcomes of p-IBD-associated musculoskeletal disease are not well established. Our study aims to summarize the recent literature on the epidemiology of musculoskeletal manifestations in p-IBD in the era of biologics.
METHODS
A systematic search of PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science Core Collection, and Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature databases was performed with relevant keywords. Studies in English published from January 1, 2000, to December 21, 2020, were included. In total, 3893 articles were identified and screened. Study and population characteristics and outcomes of interest were recorded. Risk of bias assessment was performed using the Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal Tools.
RESULTS
Thirteen studies were included for full review, which were primarily single-center observational studies with retrospective or cross-sectional designs. The diagnostic criteria and definitions used for musculoskeletal manifestations varied. Musculoskeletal manifestation prevalence ranged from 2% to 35%. Only one study assessed the response of musculoskeletal manifestations to biologics. Risk of bias demonstrated heterogeneity in study quality.
CONCLUSION
This is the first systematic review of musculoskeletal manifestations in p-IBD. Analysis was limited because of variability in study design and data-reporting methods. Definitions varied among included studies, with a clear lack in standardization. Our study demonstrates the need for standardized assessment of musculoskeletal manifestations of p-IBD and further research to explore optimal management to advance care for this group of children.

Musculoskeletal frailty-a common and debilitating condition linked to aging and chronic diseases-presents a major public health issue. In vivo models have become a key tool for researchers as they investigate the condition's underlying mechanisms and develop effective interventions. This systematic review examines the current body of research on in vivo models of musculoskeletal frailty, without any time constraints. To achieve this aim, we utilized three electronic databases and incorporated a total of 11 studies. Our investigation delves into varied animal models that simulate specific features of musculoskeletal frailty, including muscle loss, bone density reduction, and functional decline. Furthermore, we examine the translational prospects of these models in augmenting our comprehension of musculoskeletal frailty and streamlining the production of groundbreaking therapeutic approaches. This review provides significant insights and guidance for healthcare researchers and practitioners who aim to combat musculoskeletal frailty, ultimately enhancing the quality of life for older adults and individuals affected by this condition.

BACKGROUND
Musculoskeletal disorders are responsible for significant problem for workers' health. The present study aimed to investigate the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders among mining workers.
METHODS
This systematic review and meta-analysis study were designed in 2020 (from Jan to Mar). The researchers searched five international databases Medline/PubMed, ProQuest, Scopus, Embase and Web of Science. All analyzes were performed using STATA statistical software.
RESULTS
The search results were 447 articles and after screening stage finally 50 studies were included in review. The highest number of studies (26 studies) reported the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders of upper back and 4 studies reported the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders of the arms and ankles & feet. The results of meta-analysis based on prevalence in different organs showed that the highest prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders was in the upper back and the lowest in the knees with a prevalence of 50.39% (CI 95%: 31.23-54.73%) and 16.03% (CI 95%: 11.78-20.28%), respectively.
CONCLUSION
The prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders among miners is relatively high. Therefore, supervisors and mine managers should pay more attention to reducing musculoskeletal disorders and increasing the ergonomic level of mines in order to increase workers' health.

BACKGROUND
The role of amitriptyline in musculoskeletal pain is not as clearly defined as in classical neuropathic pain conditions.
OBJECTIVE
To assess the efficacy and effectiveness of amitriptyline in the treatment of pain in musculoskeletal complaints.
METHODS
An extensive search (including Medline, Embase and Web of Science) was made up to April 2016 for randomised controlled trials on amitriptyline in musculoskeletal complaints compared to placebo, usual care, or other analgesic use. Included studies were assessed for risk of bias. Outcomes of interest were pain reduction and function improvement.
RESULTS
Of the 2066 articles identified, seven were finally included. These studies were performed in patients with low back pain (4), rheumatoid arthritis (2), and patients with arm pain from repetitive use (1). No meta-analysis was performed due to clinical heterogeneity of the studies. Two studies with low risk of bias found positive results. One study found that 50 mg/day of amitriptyline [Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) -3.9 points] resulted in a significantly greater reduction in pain than treatment with pregabalin 600 mg/day (VAS -2.9 points) and improved function (improvement on the Oswestry Disability Index >20%: 65% versus 49.5%). Amitriptyline improved function in arm pain compared to placebo (Upper Extremity Function Scale: -3.9 versus 0.8). A similar amount of side-effects occurred in the amitriptyline and the comparison groups.
CONCLUSION
Few studies have evaluated the use of amitriptyline in musculoskeletal complaints. Although amitriptyline may be effective in musculoskeletal complaints, more studies are required to establish for whom amitriptyline works better than other analgesics.

OBJECTIVES
Musculoskeletal pain is common among children and adolescents. Despite the lack of evidence regarding harms and benefits, musculoskeletal pain is often managed with pain medication. The aim of this systematic review is to assess the prevalence of pain medication use for musculoskeletal pain among children and adolescents and the factors and side effects associated with use.
CONTENT
Three databases (EMBASE, CINAHL and PsychINFO) were systematically searched to identify studies designed to examine the prevalence, frequency or factors associated with the use of pain medication for musculoskeletal pain in children and adolescents (aged 6-19 years). The included studies were assessed for study quality and data were extracted.
SUMMARY
The search initially provided 20,135 studies. After screening titles, abstracts and full-texts, 20 studies were included. In school settings, 8-42% of children used pain medication for musculoskeletal pain, and 67-75% of children in sports clubs and from pain clinics used pain medication. The most consistent factors associated with the use of pain medications were pain characteristics and psychological factors (e.g. being bullied, low-self-esteem), while mixed evidence was found for increasing age and female gender. Only two studies reported on the duration of use and only one study on adverse effects related to the use of pain medication.
OUTLOOK
We found that 8-42% of adolescents from school-based samples use pain medication for MSK pain, while the prevalence among adolescents from sports clubs and pain clinics is higher (67-75%). Pain characteristics (pain duration, severity, intensity, disability levels and the presence of ≥2 pain conditions or multisite pain) and psychological factors were associated with a higher use of pain medication, while for higher age and female gender the evidence of association was mixed. Future studies should systematically collect information on the type, duration of use of pain medication and side effects to confirm the findings of this review.

BACKGROUND
Physical therapists use dry needling (DN) and percutaneous needle electrolysis (PNE) to treat musculoskeletal pain.
OBJECTIVE
To investigate the efficacy of PNE vs. DN in the treatment of musculoskeletal pain.
METHODS
This systematic review and meta-analysis was based on the PICOS and PRISMA protocols. The PubMed, PEDro, Cochrane Library, SCOPUS, and Google Scholar databases were searched for randomized clinical trials measuring pain intensity in various musculoskeletal syndromes using PNE and DN. Pain outcome measures were the visual analog scale or the numerical pain rating scale. Risk of bias was assessed according to Cochrane guidelines and quality of evidence was reported using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation approach (GRADE). Standardized mean differences were calculated using random effects models.
RESULTS
The meta-analysis of the six included studies showed that the overall effect of PNE vs. DN for pain reduction was statistically significant at -0.74 (95% confidence interval [CI], -1.34 to -0.14) with a large effect size (SMD =-0.41; 95% CI, -0.75 to -0.08), albeit clinically insignificant in the short, medium, and long term. Risk of bias was generally low with moderate-level evidence due to the overall effect heterogeneity and the small sample.
CONCLUSIONS
Moderate-quality evidence showed that PNE is slightly more effective than DN in reducing pain. However, because the results were not clinically significant, we cannot recommend the application of PNE over DN. More high-quality studies comparing the two interventions are needed to draw firm conclusions.

This study aimed to critically review the results of recent studies that investigated the epidemiology of noncombat-related musculoskeletal injuries (MSIs) in the Navy. A systematic search was conducted of three major databases (Pubmed, Embase, and Cochrane) to identify epidemiological studies on MSIs in the Navy. Study selection and risk of bias assessment were conducted. The overall prevalence of MSIs ranged from 12.69% to 48.81%. And the prevalence of head and face injuries, upper extremity injuries, spine injuries, chest injuries, and lower extremity injuries were 0.11%-0.66%, 0.53%-11.47%, 0.75%-12.09%, 0.43%-0.95%, and 0.4%-21.17%, respectively. For the specific MSIs, the incidence ranged from 0.03/1000 person-years to 32.3/1000 person-years in the Navy and Marines. The ankle-foot, lumbopelvic, knee and lower leg, and shoulder were identified as the most frequent location for MSIs. This systematic review summarized that the Navy population had a high prevalence of MSIs. And different risk factors for MSIs varied from different anatomic locations. This systematic review also provided valuable information on MSIs for sports medicine specialists.

The majority of current research on dance injuries has been on ballet, leaving a void in recent data on musculoskeletal injuries in Indian classical [IC] dance. The prevalence of injuries among IC dancers remains unclear, stressing the importance of injury epidemiology research for improved diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and injury burden reduction. Through a thorough examination of published literature, this study sought to critically evaluate existing research on the epidemiology of musculoskeletal pain and injury in IC dancers. Using Google Scholar and PubMed, a systematic evaluation of the online literature published in English was carried out from inception up to December 31, 2021 following PRISMA guidelines. For studies estimating injury prevalence, the Joanna Briggs Institute Prevalence Critical Appraisal Tool and the Risk of Bias Tool (RoBT) were used to evaluate the studies' quality. Of 3,917 studies identified, 6 studies, all cross-sectional, of low quality, with a high risk of bias, and featuring young Bharatanatyam and Kathak dancers, were determined to be admissible. Because of the studies' heterogeneity, severe study limitations, and methodological variability, a meta-analysis could not be carried out. The evidence from the current review is severely constrained, lacking generalizability to IC dancers as a whole and Bharatanatyam in particular. Since injury epidemiology is essential to the whole injury-prevention puzzle, there is a need for standardization in future research, particularly with active and prospective injury surveillance, injury assessment, and injury reporting.
