Review
Inadequate volume of the future liver remnant (FLR) renders many patients with liver malignancies not amenable to surgical resection. Depending on the health of the liver and the patient in general, an FLR of 25-40% is required to avoid acute post-hepatectomy liver failure. Transarterial radioembolization (TARE) of a diseased liver lobe leads to atrophy of the embolized lobe and compensatory hypertrophy of the contralateral lobe. Although the absolute degree of FLR hypertrophy seems to be comparable to portal vein embolization, the kinetic of hypertrophy is much slower after radioembolization. However, TARE has the unique advantages of simultaneously offering local tumor control, possibly downstaging disease, and providing biological test of time. Progressions in technique and personalized dosimetry allow for more predictable ablative treatment of liver malignancies and preparation for major liver surgery. This article provides an overview of the existing literature, discusses the evidence, and considers possible criteria for patient selection.

This study aims to investigate how exercise-induced myocardial hypertrophy preconditioning affects cardiac fibroblasts in the context of myocardial fibrosis, a chronic disease that can cause cardiac arrhythmia and heart failure. Heart failure was induced in male C57BL/6 mice via Transverse aortic constriction, and some mice were given swimming exercise before surgery to test the effects of exercise-induced myocardial hypertrophy preconditioning on myocardial fibrosis. Myocardial tissue was evaluated for fibrosis, senescent cells, and apoptotic cells. Myocardial fibroblasts from rats were cultured and treated with norepinephrine to induce fibrosis which were then treated with si-Nrf2 and analyzed for markers of fibrosis, senescence, apoptosis, and cell proliferation. Exercise-induced myocardial hypertrophy preconditioning reduced myocardial fibrosis in mice, as shown by decreased mRNA expression levels of fibrosis-related indicators and increased cell senescence. In vitro data indicated that norepinephrine (NE) treatment increased fibrosis-related markers and reduced apoptotic and senescent cells, and this effect was reversed by pre-conditioning in PRE+NE group. Preconditioning activated Nrf2 and downstream signaling genes, promoting premature senescence in cardiac fibroblasts and tissues isolated from preconditioned mice. Moreover, Nrf2 knockdown reversed proapoptotic effects, restored cell proliferation, reduced senescence-related protein expression, and increased oxidative stress markers and fibrosis-related genes, indicating Nrf2's crucial role in regulating oxidative stress response of cardiac fibroblasts. Exercise-induced myocardial hypertrophy preconditioning improves myocardial fibrosis which is Nrf2-dependent, indicating the protective effect of hypertrophy preconditioning. These findings may contribute to the development of therapeutic interventions to prevent or treat myocardial fibrosis.

Mitochondria in the skeletal muscle are essential for maintaining metabolic plasticity and function. Mitochondrial quality control encompasses the dynamics of the biogenesis and remodeling of mitochondria, characterized by the constant fission and fusion of mitochondria in response to metabolic stressors. However, the roles of mitochondrial fission or fusion in muscle hypertrophy and atrophy remain unclear. The aim of this study was to determine whether mitochondrial fusion and fission events are influenced by muscle hypertrophy or atrophy stimulation. Twenty-six male F344 rats were randomly assigned to a control group or were subjected to up to 14 days of either plantaris overload (via tenotomy of the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles; hypertrophy group) or hindlimb cast immobilization (atrophy group). After 14 days of treatment, plantaris muscle samples were collected to determine the expression levels of mitochondrial fusion- and fission-related proteins. Muscle weight and total muscle protein content increased following plantaris overload in the hypertrophy group, but decreased following immobilization for 14 days in the atrophy group. In the hypertrophied muscle, the level of activated dynamin-related protein 1 (Drp1), phosphorylated at Ser616, significantly increased by 25.8% (p = 0.014). Moreover, the protein expression level of mitochondrial fission factor significantly decreased by 36.5% in the hypertrophy group compared with that of the control group (p = 0.017). In contrast, total Drp1 level significantly decreased in the atrophied plantaris muscle (p = 0.011). Our data suggest that mitochondrial fission events may be influenced by both muscle hypertrophy and atrophy stimulation, and that mitochondrial fission- related protein Drp1 plays an important role in the regulation of skeletal muscle in response to mechanical stimulation.

BACKGROUND AND AIM
Nasal obstruction can be induced by various causes; however, inferior turbinate hypertrophy is considered the most frequent cause of this anatomical malfunctioning condition. The current surgical interventional study was focused on comparing the final outcomes of partial inferior turbinectomy (PIT) and powered endoscopic turbinoplasty (PET).
SUBJECTS AND METHODS
The criterion followed for deciding the successfulness of each surgical method was the rate of occurrence of postoperative complications such as bleeding, crustation, and atrophic rhinitis. Fifty patients who suffered from nasal obstruction were randomly divided into two groups: PIT group, with 25 patients, of which 15 (52%) were males and 10 were (48%) females, at an average age of 27.40 ± 7.7 years, and PET group, with 25 patients, out of which 14 (48%) were males and 11 (62%) were females, at an average age of 26.68 ± 6.82 years. The surgical operations were performed at the Department of Otolaryngology, Al-Diwaniyah General Teaching Hospital, Diwaniyah City, Iraq, during the period between March 2015 and March 2020.
RESULTS
The PET group showed significantly lower incidence ( < 0.05) of bleeding and crustation than those from the PIT group; however, no significant differences ( > 0.05) were observed between PIT and PET in the occurrence of atrophic rhinitis.
CONCLUSION
PET showed promisingly less postoperative complications when compared to PIT.

Exaggerated healing and remodeling after skin injury may cause hypertrophic and keloidal scars, which are associated with functional and quality of life impairment. There is limited guidance available regarding the relative effectiveness of therapies for hypertrophic scars and keloids. In this review, we aim to compare the effectiveness of treatments for hypertrophic scars and keloids. MEDLINE, Embase, Scopus, and the Cochrane Collaboration database were searched from inception to March 2019 for randomized control trials of treatments for hypertrophic and keloid scars that included 20 or more patients. Outcomes evaluated included the standardized mean reduction in scarring and adverse events. The type of scar and the demographic features were analyzed for their effect on clinical outcome. Based on 25 included clinical trials, intralesional injection (64.1% [95% CI 60.8-67.5%]) may be more effective than physical (29.9% [95% CI 28.9-30.9%]) or topical treatments (34% [95% CI 31.8-36.8%]). Combination of 5-fluorouracil and triamcinolone (9:1 dilution) appeared superior among intralesional treatments for keloids. Ablative laser and pulsed-dye laser were the most useful laser treatments. Regression modeling showed laser treatment response was linked to Fitzpatrick skin type (p = 0.002). Adverse events were uncommon for all treatments and mostly transient. Intralesional treatments for keloid and hypertrophic scars may be the most reliable treatment option to improve pathologic scars, while laser treatment may have specific benefits for Fitzpatrick skin types I-III over types IV-VI. Management of pathological scars is an area of critical need, where appropriate treatment can have a significant impact on quality of life.

OBJECTIVE
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of septoplasty and septoplasty + bilateral radio frequency ablation of inferior turbinate (b-RFAIT) according to the type of operation, age groups, gender of patients, and the duration of control period by using Nasal Obstruction Symptom Evaluation (NOSE) Scale.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
Prospective observational study was undertaken in the otolaryngology department of a training hospital. Using the NOSE scale, the study prospectively compared the results of septoplasty only and septoplasty with b-RFAIT in the treatment of nasal obstruction caused by the combination of septal deviation and turbinate hypertrophy. Patients were divided into 2 groups. The first group had only septoplasty and the second group had septoplasty with b-RFAIT. General and local anesthesia were applied in both groups. To review clinical success, all patients were controlled at the 1st week, 1st month, and 3rd month.
RESULTS
One hundred seventy-eight adult patients (male/female: 127/51) with chronic nasal obstruction complaint were enrolled in this prospective study. Our data demonstrated significant improvement from baseline after 24 months for the NOSE scores in both the septoplasty and septoplasty + b-RFAIT groups. No statistical difference was noted in the amount of postoperative improvement between the 2 treatment groups ( P = 0.306). No significant difference was observed between general and local anesthesia with respect to patients' preop and postop mean scores ( P > 0.05). There was a significant difference between the age of patients' postoperative mean ( P < 0.001). There were 4 postoperative means with respect to control time. There was an 82.29% decrease in the complaints of patients at 0 to 6 months, 80.51% decrease at 7 to 12 months, 76.1% decrease at 13 to 18 months, and 59.67% decrease at 19 to 24 months. Only the last group had a significant difference regarding mean change in scores ( P < 0.001).
CONCLUSIONS
This study shows that septoplasty + bilateral turbinate radiofrequency should be applied to patients who suffer from septum deviation with concha hypertrophy. Postoperative NOSE scale shows that the success of operation does not depend on the gender of patients and operation types (general or local anesthesia). We conclude that younger patients (18-40 age) who have obstruction with septal deviation and septum deviation with concha hypertrophy benefit more from operation than older patients do.

Skeletal muscle homeostasis and function are ensured by orchestrated cellular interactions among several types of cells. A noticeable aspect of skeletal muscle biology is the drastic cell-cell communication changes that occur in multiple scenarios. The process of recovering from an injury, which is known as regeneration, has been relatively well investigated. However, the cellular interplay that occurs in response to mechanical loading, such as during resistance training, is poorly understood compared to regeneration. During muscle regeneration, muscle satellite cells (MuSCs) rebuild multinuclear myofibers through a stepwise process of proliferation, differentiation, fusion, and maturation, whereas during mechanical loading-dependent muscle hypertrophy, MuSCs do not undergo such stepwise processes (except in rare injuries) because the nuclei of MuSCs become directly incorporated into the mature myonuclei. In this review, six specific examples of such differences in MuSC dynamics between regeneration and hypertrophy processes are discussed.

Autophagy plays a vital role in cell homeostasis by eliminating nonfunctional components and promoting cell survival. Here, we examined the levels of autophagy signaling proteins after 7 days of overload hypertrophy in the extensor digitorum longus (EDL) and soleus muscles of control and diabetic rats. We compared control and 3-day streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats, an experimental model for type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). EDL muscles showed increased levels of basal autophagy signaling proteins. The diabetic state did not affect the extent of overload-induced hypertrophy or the levels of autophagy signaling proteins (p-ULK1, Beclin-1, Atg5, Atg12-5, Atg7, Atg3, LC3-I and II, and p62) in either muscle. The p-ULK-1, Beclin-1, and p62 protein expression levels were higher in the EDL muscle than in the soleus before the hypertrophic stimulus. On the contrary, the soleus muscle exhibited increased autophagic signaling after overload-induced hypertrophy, with increases in Beclin-1, Atg5, Atg12-5, Atg7, Atg3, and LC3-I expression in the control and diabetic groups, in addition to p-ULK-1 in the control groups. After hypertrophy, Beclin-1 and Atg5 levels increased in the EDL muscle of both groups, while p-ULK1 and LC3-I increased in the control group. In conclusion, the baseline EDL muscle exhibited higher autophagy than the soleus muscle. Although TDM1 promotes skeletal muscle mass loss and strength reduction, it did not significantly alter the extent of overload-induced hypertrophy and autophagy signaling proteins in EDL and soleus muscles, with the two groups exhibiting different patterns of autophagy activation.

BACKGROUND
Various surgical interventions exist for treatment of inferior turbinate hypertrophy (ITH). Though mucosal-sparing techniques are generally preferred, there is lack of consensus on the optimal technique.
OBJECTIVE
This systematic review sought to evaluate the evidence for treatment of bilateral nasal obstruction via inferior turbinate reduction (ITR) and provide a meta-analysis of expected results of various techniques.
METHODS
PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane Library databases were queried to include articles describing surgical treatment for ITH. Exclusion criteria were concurrent nasal procedures or non-mucosal ITH. Primary outcomes included visual analog scale for nasal obstruction, nasal cavity volume by acoustic rhinometry, and resistance by anterior rhinomanometry. Subgroup analyses assessed outcomes by rhinitis diagnosis and length of follow-up, and radiofrequency ablation (RFA) was compared to microdebrider-assisted turbinoplasty (MAIT).
RESULTS
A total of 1870 studies were identified with 62 meeting inclusion criteria. Reported techniques included turbinectomy, submucosal resection, RFA, MAIT, laser, or electrocautery.All techniques demonstrated significant improvements in nasal obstruction using the visual analog scale. Further comprehensive physiologic data for RFA, MAIT, and laser was available and, compared to baseline, these techniques resulted in significant improvements in nasal resistance, nasal cavity volume, and nasal airflow. Six studies directly compared RFA and MAIT with statistically similar results on VAS, nasal cavity volume, and resistance with median follow-up time of 3.5 months. Assessment of VAS congestion over time reveals peak benefit is achieved between 3-6 months follow-up.
CONCLUSIONS
All reviewed ITR techniques improve patient-reported nasal obstruction. RFA and MAIT provide comparable improvements in patient-reported and physiologic nasal airflow outcomes and while benefits are sustained long-term, the peak benefit for both techniques appears to be achieved within the first year.

BACKGROUND
Labiaplasty is one of the aesthetic procedures that has shown the greatest increase in the number of operations in recent years, although the absolute number of these procedures is still very low. Labia minora hypertrophy causes not only functional discomfort and sexual difficulties, but also embarrassment and aesthetic concern. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of labiaplasty on the patient's quality of life, self-esteem, and sexual function.
METHODS
Twenty-four consecutive sexually active patients, who expressed the desire to undergo labiaplasty, were divided into two groups of 12 patients each: the intervention group that underwent labiaplasty immediately after responding the first questionnaires, and the control group that received no intervention during the study period. All patients were assessed for health-related quality of life, self-esteem, and sexual function using the Brazilian Portuguese versions of the Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short Form Health Survey, the Brazilian version of the Rosenberg Self-Esteem scale, and the Female Sexual Function Questionnaire, respectively. The questionnaires were administered at inclusion and at 3 and 6 months later in both groups. Comparisons within and between groups were performed. Statistical analysis was performed at a significance level of p < 0.05.
RESULTS
No significant differences in Rosenberg Self-Esteem scale or Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short Form Health Survey score were found in either group during the study period. However, a significant improvement was found in the Female Sexual Function Questionnaire total score in the pain and enjoyment domains.
CONCLUSION
Labiaplasty had a positive impact on sexual functioning of the study population.
