Observational Study
OBJECTIVE
To present a series of patients with elastofibroma dorsi (ED) in order to recall the pathology and justify its diagnostic and therapeutic management in the primary care setting.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
Retrospective observational and longitudinal study of 12 patients with 18ED. Epidemiological, clinical and imaging characteristics were analysed. Treatment outcomes were assessed in terms of pain (VAS scale), shoulder function (Constant and Murley scale) and quality of life (EuroQol-5 dimension scale, EQ-5D). The mean follow-up of the cases was 60.5months (5years, range 1-161months).
RESULTS
Six patients were male and six were female, with a mean age at diagnosis of 59years. The diagnosis of suspicion in all cases was based in clinical and imaging findings. Only three required surgery. The results of all were satisfactory.
CONCLUSIONS
Both the diagnosis and the indication for treatment of an ED can be made in the primary care setting. In typical cases, which are the majority, the clinical history and an ultrasound study allow a diagnosis of certainty. The indication for conservative or surgical treatment depends on the informed patient. When there are diagnostic doubts or the patient wishes surgical resection of the tumour, the patient should be referred to a hospital specialist.

A 9-year-old castrated male pitbull dog was presented for evaluation of a subconjunctival swelling of 10 days duration. On ophthalmic examination, a subcutaneous mass was identified at the right lateral canthus. An excisional biopsy was performed, and histopathological analysis confirmed a diagnosis of a subcutaneous fibroma. Eleven months after surgical excision, the dog had no evidence of recurrence. Fibroma should be included in the differential diagnosis of rapidly enlarging eyelid masses.

Review
Fibromatosis of the breast is a rare condition that predominantly affects middle-aged women. It is locally aggressive, and exhibits a high incidence of local recurrence. The clinical presentation and radiological appearance are highly suspicious for carcinoma. Definitive diagnosis is made by diagnostic open biopsy. The aim of this review is to illustrate the main radiological and histopathological characteristics of this rare disease to increase awareness of this entity and discuss the role of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in its management.

Review
Aggressive fibromatosis, also known as desmoid-type fibromatosis (DTF) or desmoid tumor, is an uncommon locally invasive tumor. Because of its low incidence and variable behavior, DTF is often first seen by physicians who are not familiar with it, and recent advances in understanding this disease have led to changes in treatment approaches. The Wnt (β-catenin) pathway appears to play a key role in DTF pathogenesis, and recent studies of DTF biology suggest a possible model of DTF pathogenesis. Histologically, DTF shows a poorly circumscribed proliferation of myofibroblast-like cells with variable collagen deposition, similar to the proliferative phase of wound healing, and DTF has been associated with trauma and pregnancy. Desmoid-type fibromatosis may be a useful model of the tumor stroma in carcinomas as well as other fibrosing diseases such as progressive pulmonary fibrosis. The clinical course of DTF can vary greatly among patients, complicating the determination of the optimal treatment approach. Treatment options include surgery, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs with or without hormonal manipulation, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and other forms of local therapy. Many treatments have been used, but these are not without toxicities. Because of the variable nature of the disease and the potential morbidity of treatment, some cases of DTF may do better without treatment; simple observation is often the best initial treatment. This review used a PubMed search from January 1, 1980, through October 31, 2016, using the terms fibromatosis and desmoid and discusses DTF disease characteristics, pathophysiology, and treatment options as well as examines several cases illustrating key points in the biology and treatment of this heterogeneous disease.

OBJECTIVE
The objective of our study was to report head and neck deep fibromatosis as part of the differential diagnosis of a firm painful neck mass after cervical fusion and diskectomy.
CONCLUSION
Although they are rare tumors, fibromatosis tumors or desmoid tumors should be considered in a patient with a painful neck mass; a history of cervical spine surgery; and MRI findings showing a large, avidly enhancing, heterogeneous mass adjacent to surgical hardware that is hyperintense on T2-weighted imaging.

BACKGROUND/AIM
Endosialin is present in human fibrosarcoma neoplastic cells. This study aimed to analyse the expression of selected cellular proteins found in fibrosarcomas and soft-tissue fibroids in dogs.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
A total of 71 skin tumours obtained from dogs were used. The samples included 31 fibromas and 40 fibrosarcomas. Histopathological evaluation was performed according to World Health Organization guidelines. Immunohistochemistry was performed with anti-endosialin, Ki-67, cyclo-oxygenase 2 and vimentin antibodies and assessed using the semi-quantitative scale.
RESULTS
Endosialin expression was observed in 82.5% of fibrosarcomas and in 35% of fibromas. A significant positive correlation was found between the expression of endosialin in fibrosarcoma neoplastic cells and the degree of histological malignancy and the expression of the Ki-67 and cyclo-oxygenase 2 antigen. Expression of vimentin confirmed mesenchymal origin of this tumours.
CONCLUSION
The results of our research suggest that endosialin is involved in the carcinogenesis of fibrosarcoma in dogs.

Fibromas are benign, well-circumscribed tumors that are characterized as spindle-cell lesions with interlacing fibrous stroma. Here, we describe the clinical presentation, management, and outcome of a patient with an orbital fibroma. To our knowledge, this is the second case report of a biopsy-proven subperiosteal orbital fibroma to date.
