: The "classic" thyroid gland arterial vascularization takes into account two superior thyroid arteries (STA), two inferior thyroid arteries (ITA) and, occasionally, a thyroid ima artery (TIMA). The present review focuses on exploring the available data concerning thyroid gland arterial vascularization and its variations. : Here, we analysed 49 articles from the last century, ranging from case reports to reviews concerning cadaver dissection classes, surgical intervention, and non-invasive techniques as well. : The harvested data clearly highlighted that: (i) the STA originates predominantly from the external carotid artery; (ii) the ITA is a branch of the thyrocervical trunk; and (iii) the TIMA is a very uncommon variant predominantly occurring to compensate for ITA absence. : A systematic review of a highly vascularized organ is of great relevance during surgical intervention and, thus, the knowledge of normal anatomy and its modification is essential both for fact-finding and in surgery.

BACKGROUND
Thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms (TAAAs) are a life-threatening condition which remain difficult to treat. Endovascular and open surgical repair (OSR) provide treatment options for patients, however, due to the lack of clinical trials comparing these, the optimum treatment option is unknown.
OBJECTIVES
To assess the effectiveness and safety of endovascular repair versus conventional OSR for the treatment of TAAAs.
SEARCH METHODS
The Cochrane Vascular Information Specialist searched the Cochrane Vascular Specialised Register, CENTRAL, MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL and AMED databases and World Health Organization International Clinical Trials Registry Platform and ClinicalTrials.gov trials registers to 26 April 2021. We also searched references of relevant articles retrieved from the electronic search for additional citations.
SELECTION CRITERIA
We considered all published and unpublished randomised controlled trials (RCTs) and controlled clinical trials (CCTs) comparing endovascular repair to OSR for TAAAs for inclusion in the review. The main outcomes of interest were prevention of aneurysm rupture (participants without aneurysm rupture up to 5 years from intervention), aneurysm-related mortality (30 days and 12 months), all-cause mortality, spinal cord ischaemia (paraplegia, paraparesis), visceral arterial branch compromise causing mesenteric ischaemia or renal failure, and rate of reintervention.
DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS
Two review authors independently screened all titles and abstracts identified from the searches to identify those that met the inclusion criteria. We planned to undertake data collection, risk of bias assessment, and analysis in accordance with Cochrane recommendations. We planned to assess the certainty of the evidence using GRADE.
MAIN RESULTS
No RCTs or CCTs met the inclusion criteria for this review.
AUTHORS' CONCLUSIONS
Due to the lack of RCTs or CCTs, we were unable to determine the safety and effectiveness of endovascular compared to OSR in patients with TAAAs and are unable to provide any evidence on the optimal surgical intervention for this cohort of patients. High-quality RCTs or CCTs addressing this objective are necessary, however conducting such studies will be logistically and ethically challenging for this life-threatening disease.

The efficacy of nitroglycerin to prevent radial artery spasm and occlusion during and after transradial catheterization: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
Radial artery spasm (RAS) is the most common cause of transradial access site crossover and is a common intra-procedural complication. RAS incidence can lead to radial artery occlusion (RAO) postprocedure, preventing the radial artery as a future access site. We evaluated the efficacy of nitroglycerin preventing RAS and RAO during transradial catheterization discussing the different routes of administration, including topical, subcutaneous, and intra-arterial. A systematic review and meta-analysis included all relevant articles until April 23, 2022. We searched six databases Google Scholar, Web of Science, SCOPUS, EMBASE, PubMed (MEDLINE), and CENTRAL. We registered our review protocol in PROSPERO with ID: CRD42022330356. We included 11 trials with 5814 patients. Compared to placebo, the pooled analysis favored subcutaneous nitroglycerin in preventing RAS (risk ratio [RR]: 0.57 with 95% confidence interval [CI] [0.43-0.77], p = .0003) and RAO (RR: 0.39 with 95% CI [0.16-0.98], p = .05). In contrast to the intra-arterial nitroglycerin that showed nonstatistically significant results in preventing RAS and RAO (RR: 0.8 with 95% CI [0.63-1.02], p = .07)- (RR: 0.78 with 95% CI [0.6-1.01], p = .06)), respectively. Also, topical nitroglycerin did not prevent RAS (RR: 0.73 with 95% CI [0.42-1.24], p = .24). Compared with placebo, subcutaneous nitroglycerin during transradial catheterization reduced the incidence of RAS and RAO. Meanwhile, Intra-arterial and topical nitroglycerin did not show statistically significant outcomes. Subcutaneous nitroglycerin may be a practical and cost-effective technique to facilitate transradial catheterization; however, more RCTs are needed to evaluate the subcutaneous versus intra-arterial nitroglycerin administration.

BACKGROUND
The aim of the present study was to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis of the studies comparing the efficiency and safety of selective renal artery clamping (SAC) and main renal artery clamping (MAC) in partial nephrectomy (PN) for renal cell cancer (RCC).
METHODS
According to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses statement, a literature search on PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure were conducted to identify relevant studies published through December 2017. Outcomes of interest included baseline characteristics and perioperative surgical variables.
RESULTS
In all, 14 studies involving 2824 RCC patients comparing SAC and MAC were included in this meta-analysis. No differences were detected in mean patient body mass index (P = .08), tumor size (P = .22), baseline estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) (P = .60), American Society of Anesthesiologists score (P = .97), or RENAL score (P = .70). The mean age was significantly younger in the SAC group compared with the MAC group (P = .002). There was no difference between SAC and MAC groups in terms of warm ischemia time (P = .31), transfusion rate (P = .18), length of hospital stay (P = .47), or postoperative complication rate (P = .23). Although SAC had longer operating time (OT) (P = .04) and more estimated blood loss (EBL) (P = .0002), a lower percentage decrease in eGFR in the SAC group was found compared to the MAC group (P = .002).
CONCLUSIONS
Patients undergoing PN with SAC had longer OT and higher EBL. SAC was more frequently used in younger patient. SAC offered better renal function preservation when compared with MAC for RCC. Given the inherent limitations of the included studies, further well-designed randomized controlled trials are required to verify these findings.

OBJECTIVES
The primary objective was to estimate the prevalence of aberrant right subclavian artery (ARSA) in fetuses with Down syndrome. Secondary objectives were to assess the prevalence of ARSA in euploid fetuses, the feasibility of ultrasound evaluation of the right subclavian artery (RSA) in the first and second trimesters of pregnancy, the performance of ARSA in screening for trisomy 21 and its association with other abnormalities.
METHODS
Web-based databases (PubMed, EMBASE and MEDLINE) were searched up to July 2014. The STROBE, PRISMA and QUIPS instruments were used to assess all included studies and for reporting of methodology, results and conclusions. Original studies that reported prenatal ultrasound evaluation of ARSA, assessment of its prevalence in Down-syndrome and euploid fetuses, feasibility of ultrasound evaluation of the RSA in the first and second trimesters of pregnancy and correlation of ARSA with other abnormalities were included, excluding duplications and case reports. Collected data were summarized to estimate prevalence and feasibility. A meta-analysis was performed pooling the study-specific positive and negative likelihood ratios (LR+ and LR-), detection rates and false-positive rates for trisomy 21.
RESULTS
Prevalence of ARSA in Down-syndrome fetuses was 23.6% (95% CI, 19.4-27.9%), whereas in euploid fetuses it was 1.02% (95% CI, 0.86-1.10%). Ultrasound evaluation of the RSA course and origin in the first and second trimesters of pregnancy was feasible in 85% and 98% of cases (first and second trimester, respectively) and it was directly related to sonographic experience and fetal crown-rump length and inversely related to maternal body mass index. In more than 20% of fetuses with ARSA there was an association with other abnormalities but ARSA seemed to be an independent marker of trisomy 21. The meta-analysis showed that ARSA is a significant risk factor for Down syndrome (pooled LR+ = 26.93, 95% CI, 19.36-37.47, P for effect < 0.001, P for Q = 0.3, I(2) = 17.3%), whereas normal RSA is a significant protective marker (pooled LR- = 0.71, 95% CI, 0.51-0.99, P for effect = 0.043, P for Q = 0.9, I(2) = 0%).
CONCLUSIONS
ARSA appears to be a clinically useful prenatal ultrasound marker of Down syndrome. Additional testing when ARSA is diagnosed should involve evaluation of all risk factors by applying a mathematical model. There is insufficient evidence to recommend fetal karyotyping in cases with isolated ARSA. If the background risk is higher or additional markers are present, full fetal karyotyping is advisable, including analysis for 22q11 microdeletion.

Many studies report estimated pulmonary artery systolic pressure (ePASP) in patients with sickle cell disease (SCD) screened by echocardiography. To better understand the prevalence and outcomes of elevated ePASP in clinically stable SCD patients, we conducted a random-effects meta-analysis. A total of 45 studies, representing 15 countries and including 6109 individuals, met our inclusion criteria. In most (70%) studies, elevated ePASP was defined by a tricuspid regurgitant velocity of 2.5 m/s. The prevalence of elevated ePASP was 21% (17-26%) in children and 30% (26-35%) in adults. After adjustment for sex, SCD genotype, haemoglobin, hydroxycarbamide (hydroxyurea) treatment, country and publication year, age remained associated with elevated ePASP, yielding a 12% (0.4-23%) higher adjusted prevalence in adults. Few studies reported 6-min walk tests or mortality outcomes, and estimates were highly heterogeneous. In random effects meta-analyses, patients with elevated ePASP walked an estimated 30.4 (6.9-53.9) metres less than those without elevated ePASP and had an associated mortality hazard ratio of 4.9 (2.4-9.7).

BACKGROUND
Imaging markers of intracranial aneurysm (IA) development are not well established.
PURPOSE
To provide an overview of imaging markers of IA development.
METHODS
A systematic search of PubMed and Embase up to December 1st 2020 using predefined criteria. Thirty-six studies met our inclusion criteria. We performed a quantitative summary of the included studies.
RESULTS
We found converging evidence for A1 segment asymmetry as an anatomical marker of anterior communicating artery (Acom) aneurysm development, and moderate evidence for several other markers. No hemodynamic markers yielded converging or moderate evidence. There was large heterogeneity across studies, especially in the definitions of imaging markers and study outcomes used. Due to the poor methodological quality of many studies and unavailability of effect sizes or crude data to calculate effect sizes, a formal meta-analysis was not possible.
CONCLUSIONS
We only identified A1 segment asymmetry as an imaging marker of Acom aneurysm development with converging evidence. A meta-analysis was not possible due to the heterogeneity of marker definitions and outcomes used, and poor methodological quality of many studies. Future studies should use robust study designs and uniformly defined imaging markers and outcome measures.

OBJECTIVE
To synthesise and present all available evidence regarding the surgical treatment of patients with aberrant subclavian artery (aSA) pathologies during the last 30 years. The study also aimed to create a checklist of suggested reporting items to help increase reporting homogeneity.
METHODS
A systematic search of medical databases was performed to identify all studies published between 1990 and 2020 reporting on the outcomes of patients undergoing surgery for an aSA pathology. Patients were divided into two groups; Group A included patients undergoing open or hybrid surgery through sternotomy/thoracotomy and Group B included patients undergoing endovascular or hybrid treatment without chest access. The % crude rates (CR) of all variables of interest were calculated. A proportion meta-analysis was performed reporting pooled rates with 95% confidence intervals (CIs).
RESULTS
Three hundred and fourteen studies were identified reporting on the surgical outcomes of 732 patients (60.1% males; 440/732). The quality of evidence was generally low, with 286 studies including fewer than four patients and 28 studies with five or more cases. Aberrant right subclavian artery (aRSA) in a left sided aortic arch was present in 71.4% of the patients and a Kommerell's diverticulum was present in 50.1% of the cases. A total of 68% of the patients were symptomatic on presentation, with the majority complaining of dysphagia (49.6%). Group A included 453 and Group B 279 patients. Studies reporting on five or more patients were included in the main meta-analysis. The pooled early mortality rate was 1.62% (95% CI 0.05% - 4.53%) in Group A and 1.96% (95% CI 0 - 6.34%) in Group B. Pooled rates of symptom relief were 99.52% (95% CI 92.05% - 100.00%) in Group A and 95.79% (95% CI 83.96% - 100.00%) in Group B.
CONCLUSION
The surgical techniques used to treat aSA and aortic pathologies involving an aSA had remarkably low mortality rates and high clinical success, regardless of the technique used.

PURPOSE
Accurate knowledge of greater palatine foramen (GPF) and greater palatine canal (GPC) anatomy is necessary to avoid injury to the greater palatine artery (GPA) when performing a variety of anesthesiologic, dental or surgical procedures. The aim of this paper was to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis of literature on the anatomy and localization of bony structures associated with the GPA, namely the GPF and GPC.
METHODS
A systematic literature search was performed using PubMed, Embase, ScienceDirect, and Web of Science databases. Seventy-five studies were included in the meta-analysis (n = 22,202 subjects).
RESULTS
The meta-analysis showed that the GPF is positioned 17.21 mm (95% CI = 16.34-18.09 mm) from the posterior nasal spine, 2.56 mm (95% CI = 1.90-3.22 mm) from the posterior border of the hard palate, 46.24 mm (95% CI = 44.30-48.18 mm) from the anterior nasal spine, 15.22 mm (95% CI = 15.00-15.43 mm) from the midline maxillary suture, 37.32 mm (95% CI = 36.19-38.45 mm) from the incisive foramen, and opposite the third maxillary molar (M3) in 64.9% (58.7-70.7%) of the total population.
CONCLUSION
An up-to-date, comprehensive analysis of GPF and GPC clinical anatomy is presented. The results from this evidence-based anatomical study provides a unified set of data to aid clinicians in their practice.

BACKGROUND
The Cabrol procedure has undergone various modifications and developments since its invention. However, there is a notable gap in the literature regarding meta-analyses assessing it.
METHODS
A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness and long-term outcomes of the Cabrol procedure and its modifications. Pooling was conducted using random effects model. Outcome events were reported as linearized occurrence rates (percentage per patient-year) with 95% confidence intervals.
RESULTS
A total of 14 studies involving 833 patients (mean age: 50.8 years; 68.0% male) were included in this meta-analysis. The pooled all-cause early mortality was 9.0% (66 patients), and the combined rate of reoperation due to bleeding was 4.9% (17 patients). During the average 4.4-year follow-up (3,727.3 patient-years), the annual occurrence rates (linearized) for complications were as follows: 3.63% (2.79-4.73) for late mortality, 0.64% (0.35-1.16) for aortic root reoperation, 0.57% (0.25-1.31) for hemorrhage events, 0.66% (0.16-2.74) for thromboembolism, 0.60% (0.29-1.26) for endocarditis, 2.32% (1.04-5.16) for major valve-related adverse events, and 0.58% (0.34-1.00) for Cabrol-related coronary graft complications.
CONCLUSION
This systematic review provides evidence that the outcomes of the Cabrol procedure and its modifications are acceptable in terms of mortality, reoperation, anticoagulation, and valve-related complications, especially in Cabrol-related coronary graft complications. Notably, the majority of Cabrol procedures were performed in reoperations and complex cases. Furthermore, the design and anastomosis of the Dacron interposition graft for coronary reimplantation, considering natural anatomy and physiological hemodynamics, may promise future advancements in this field.
