OBJECTIVES
The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to examine the success rate of osseointegrated dental implants placed secondarily in fibula free flaps using the Albrektsson and colleagues criteria.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
A computerized database search was performed using PubMed, Embase, Web of Science and Cochrane CENTRAL. Specific ascertainment criteria were applied for the inclusion of the eligible studies. This systematic review adhered to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis PRISMA checklist. Risk of bias was assessed for all the included studies.
RESULTS
The meta-analysis was carried using ten studies that met the inclusion criteria. The present review pooled data obtained from 242 patients (167 males and 75 females), with the age range of 13 to 79 years. A total of 848 dental implants were placed in the free fibula flaps. All dental implants were placed in a delayed fashion, ranging from 14 to 192 months. The estimated proportion of successful implants placed in fibula flaps used to reconstruct the maxillomandibular complex was 0.94 or 94% (95% CI [confidence interval] = 0.91 to 0.96]) with an insignificant heterogeneity of 37%, P = 0.12. Using a random effect model the annual implant failure rate was 0.02 with a 95% CI = 0.01 to 0.03.
CONCLUSIONS
The results of this systematic review and meta-analysis strongly indicate that using objective criteria, delayed implant placement in free fibula flaps is highly successful.

The present review aimed to assess the possible relationship between occlusal overload and peri-implant bone loss. In accordance with the PRISMA guidelines, the MEDLINE, Scopus, and Cochrane databases were searched from January 1985 up to and including December 2021. The search strategy applied was: (dental OR oral) AND implants AND (overload OR excessive load OR occlusal wear) AND (bone loss OR peri-implantitis OR failure). Clinical studies that reported quantitative analysis of occlusal loads through digital contacts and/or occlusal wear were included. The studies were screened for eligibility by two independent reviewers. The quality of the included studies was assessed using the Risk of Bias in Non-randomized Studies of Interventions (ROBINS-I) tool. In total, 492 studies were identified in the search during the initial screening. Of those, 84 were subjected to full-text evaluation, and 7 fulfilled the inclusion criteria (4 cohort studies, 2 cross-sectional, and 1 case-control). Only one study used a digital device to assess excessive occlusal forces. Four out of seven studies reported a positive correlation between the overload and the crestal bone loss. All of the included studies had moderate to serious overall risk of bias, according to the ROBINS-I tool. In conclusion, the reported data relating the occlusal analysis to the peri-implant bone level seem to reveal an association, which must be further investigated using new digital tools that can help to standardize the methodology.

To review different modes of application of hydroxyapatite for treatment of dentin hypersensitivity via dentinal tubule occlusion.
METHODS
Literature search for the systematic review was done using key words 'hydroxyapatite and dentin hypersensitivity', 'hydroxyapatite and dentinal tubule occlusion', 'hydroxyapatite and dentin permeability', and 'dentinal tubule occlusion' on Pubmed, Science Direct and Web of Science databases for articles published over 10 years, from 2009 to 2018.
RESULTS
Of the 132 research articles initially identified, 97(73.5%) related to the 10-year study period. After detailed screening, 16(16.5%) studies were included. The results of in vitro studies showed that application of hydroxyapatite caused dentinal tubule occlusion leading to reduction in dentin permeability and reduction in dentin hypersensitivity.
CONCLUSIONS
Hydroxyapatite has the potential to reduce dentin hypersensitivity via dentinal tubule occlusion within 2-8 weeks.

This systematic review aimed to identify the main tools used to analyze the relationship between the postural and stomatognathic systems. The study followed the PRISMA guidelines, and data were collected from Science Direct and PubMed databases to identify articles published until December 2022. After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, 26 articles were selected from the initial 903 articles. The selected articles were full-text studies in English or Romanian, examining the relationship between dental occlusion and posture, measuring postural parameters using various tools, implementing occlusal changes, evaluating patients with permanent dentition, or analyzing the connection between occlusion and posture in a unidirectional manner. The findings indicate that orthognathic surgery and orthodontic mouthguards can significantly enhance postural balance and athletic performance. In addition, 63% of the studies concluded that varying modifications and occlusal conditions impact posture. Notable differences exist concerning posture and Angle dental occlusion classes, and different occlusal devices used to simulate malocclusion can affect patients' postural systems in response to external stimuli. The stabilometry platform is the predominant method for measuring postural parameters; however, other researchers have employed raster stereography, photogrammetry, mobile phone apps, and the Fukuda-Unterberger test. Consequently, interventions targeting the stomatognathic system should consider potential variations in the postural system.

BACKGROUND
Dental treatments often cause pain and anxiety in patients. Virtual reality (VR) is a novel procedure that can provide distraction during dental procedures or prepare patients to receive such type of treatments. This meta-analysis is the first to gather evidence on the effectiveness of VR on the reduction of pain (P) and dental anxiety (DA) in patients undergoing dental treatment, regardless of age.
METHODS
MEDLINE, CENTRAL, PubMed, EMBASE, Wiley Library and Web of Science were searched for scientific articles in November 2019. The keywords used were: "virtual reality", "distraction systems", "dental anxiety" and "pain". Studies where VR was used for children and adults as a measure against anxiety and pain during dental treatments were included. VR was defined as a three-dimensional environment that provides patients with a sense of immersion, transporting them to appealing and interactive settings. Anxiety and pain results were assessed during dental treatments where VR was used, and in standard care situations.
RESULTS
31 studies were identified, of which 14 met the inclusion criteria. Pain levels were evaluated in four studies ( = 4), anxiety levels in three ( = 3) and anxiety and pain together in seven ( = 7). Our meta-analysis was based on ten studies ( = 10). The effect of VR was studied mainly in the pediatric population (for pain SMD = -0.82). In the adult population, only two studies (not significant) were considered.
CONCLUSIONS
The findings of the meta-analysis show that VR is an effective distraction method to reduce pain and anxiety in patients undergoing a variety of dental treatments; however, further research on VR as a tool to prepare patients for dental treatment is required because of the scarcity of studies in this area.

This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to summarize the effectiveness of bonded and removable retainers (the Hawley and Essix retainers) in terms of improving occlusal settling (occlusal contact points/areas) after orthodontic treatment. We searched the Cochrane Library, PubMed, CINAHL Plus, and Dental & Oral Sciences Source (DOSS), as well as SIGLE, Google Scholar and ClinicalTrials.gov for eligible studies. We included randomized and non-randomized controlled trials along with cohort studies. Studies that reported occlusal contacts/areas during retention with fixed bonded and removable retainers were included. To assess the quality of the randomized controlled trials (RCTs), the Cochrane Collaboration risk-of-bias (RoB) tool was utilized, whereas the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS) was used to assess the quality of cohort studies.We included 6 articles in our systematic review after scrutinizing 219 articles and eliminating the illegible ones based on duplication, titles, abstracts, and objectives. Bonded retainers (BRs) allowed faster and better posterior occlusal settling as compared to the Hawley retainer (HR). However, HR showed good occlusal settling in the anterior dental arch. The Essix retainer (ER) showed a decrease in occlusal contact during the retention phase. Meta-analysis showed no statistically significant difference between BRs and removable retainers. In conclusion, HR allowed better overall occlusal settling as compared to other retainers. However, BRs allowed faster settling in the posterior tooth region. The Essix retainer showed poor settling of occlusion. Overall, there is an insufficient number of high-quality RCTs to provide additional evidence, and further high-quality RCTs are needed.

Restoration of hemimandibulectomy defects following tumour extirpation to restore oral function is a herculean task for practitioners. Prosthetic treatment alternatives available for rehabilitation of acquired hemimandibulectomy defects according to mandibular reconstruction type and extent (Cantor-Curtis classification) are unclear. This systematic review aims to assess the spectrum of prosthodontic rehabilitation approaches with regard to reconstruction type and extent of mandibular surgical defects. The databases incorporated for literature search were Google Scholar and Medline (PubMed). Relevant search terms for hemimandibulectomy and reconstruction with prosthetic rehabilitation were used. Two reviewers independently assessed the articles using eligibility criteria; published case reports and case series in the English language and depicting prosthodontic treatment modality of patients greater than 15 years were included. A total of 202 records were identified from the database search of which 19 duplicates were removed. The remaining articles were assessed for eligibility, and 55 articles (comprising 58 cases) were finally included in the study. This review revealed various prosthetic alternatives ranging from guide flange, twin occlusion, palatal ramp, conventional to hybrid partial and complete dentures to implant-supported prosthesis including a few innovative prosthetic approaches. This systematic review provides a plethora of prosthodontic rehabilitation approaches according to the extent of hemimandibular surgical defect and type of reconstruction. This will facilitate practitioners and prosthodontists in sequential treatment planning and management of hemimandibulectomy cases in their routine practice.

BACKGROUND
The aim of this systematic review was to analyze the types of human chewing simulator described in scientific literature.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
An electronic search was conducted in the databases PubMed, Embase and Scopus. The search strategy included 10 search terms: ""; "dental materials"; "shear strength"; "fatigue fracture"; "bite force"; "prosthetic materials"; "chewing simulator"; "chewing machine"; "simulated mastication"; and "dental wear simulator." Two researchers worked independently to assess the titles and abstracts of the articles. The quality of the trials selected was evaluated by means of the Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials scale.
RESULTS
The electronic search identified 80 articles related to the topic of interest. After reading the full texts, ten works were selected. The articles focused mainly on the design of chewing simulators. Most of them were considered of moderate quality. Regarding the characteristics that an ideal chewing simulator should encompass, the devices described in articles varied greatly in terms of movement, periodontal ligament simulation, force sensors, and the materials tested.
CONCLUSIONS
No chewing simulator offers all the characteristics necessary to reproduce human masticatory movements and forces under the humidity and pH conditions of the oral cavity. A simulator that encompasses all these characteristics would make it possible to standardize trials involving simulated mastication. In vitro, dental materials, dental wear simulator.

To systematically review the available literature on full mouth rehabilitation of the worn out dentition to help the clinician to choose a suitable philosophy to treat an individual Turner and Missirlian classification.
SETTINGS AND DESIGN
Systematic review following PRISMA guidelines.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
The electronic search engine explored for relevant published studies from the earliest available date, from January 1960 till October 2018. Search terms included were "full mouth rehabilitation OR occlusion OR philosophies of full mouth rehabilitation OR oral rehabilitation OR Pankey Mann Schuyler philosophy OR Hobo Twin stage OR Hobo Twin Table OR worn out dentition OR Turner and Missirlian classification". All collected studies were analyzed and a total of 54 articles and 2 hand searches were extracted, among which 32 articles were selected for the systematic review. Of these 32 articles, 8 were original research studies, 23 case reports and 1 study which comprised 3 case reports were incorporated. Hence, a total of 26 case reports were considered for this systematic review based on CAse REport guidelines.
STATISTICAL ANALYSIS USED
Qualitative analyisis.
RESULTS
Among 26 case reports, 15 cases (57.69%) were treated by Pankey Mann Schuyler philosophy, 2 cases (7.69%) by Hobo twin table and 9 cases (34.61%) by Hobo twin stage philosophy. 21 out of 26 cases were introduced for category no. 1 (80.76%) and 4 cases for category no. 2 (15.38%) and only 1case presented for category no.3 (3.84%) of Turner and Missirlian classification.
CONCLUSION
: No philosophies are universally applicable. Although the most commonly used philosophy is Pankey Mann Schuyler. Hobo Twin stage philosophy is the second most commonly used followed by Hobo Twin table. Maximum patients with worn out dentition are grouped under category no.1 of Turner and Missirlian classification system. Maximum cases of this category are treated by Pankey Mann Schuyler's philosophy.

Growth hormone (GH) is involved in the regulation of the postnatal dental and skeletal growth, but its effects on oral health have not been clearly defined. This paper aims to provide a review of current clinical knowledge of dental caries, tooth wear, developmental enamel defects, craniofacial growth and morphology, dental maturation, and tooth eruption in growth hormone deficient (GHD) children. A systematic review was carried out using Scopus, MEDLINE-EbscoHost and Web of Science from 2000 to May 2021. PRISMA guidelines for reporting systematic reviews were followed. All the selected studies involved groups under eighteen years of age, covering a total of 465 GHD patients. The studies that were selected provide reliable evidence for delayed dental maturity and orthodontic disturbances in GHD patients. Data on dental hard tissues pathology are scarce and are limited to occurrences of dental caries. GHD children showed abnormal craniofacial morphology with reduced mandibular dimensions, with a resulting tendency towards Angle's Class II occlusion, which affected up to 31% of patients. Dental age has been shown to be delayed in GHD patients by about 1 to 2 years. Moreover, the risk of dental caries in children with GHD decreases with increasing levels of vitamin D. Hence, further studies would be valuable for evaluating the risk of various oral health problems and to organize targeted dental care for this vulnerable group.
