Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a sensorimotor disorder leading to disturbance of resting, discomfort, stress, and impaired daytime activity in the sufferers. The present systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to determine the effect of temperature therapy on the severity of RLS. The electronic databases of Google Scholar, ProQuest, Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, and State Inpatient Databases (SID) were searched from inception to August 2022. The Cochrane Collaboration's Risk of Bias Tool was used to check the quality of included studies. Meta-analysis was performed by calculating standardized mean differences (SMDs), using random effects model, and running Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (CMA) software version 2. The included studies (n=6) comprised 177 participants, whose mean age was 49.85 years old. The results of the meta-analysis showed temperature therapy could reduce the severity of RLS (SMD=-1.520, 95% CI: -2.122 to -0.918). Regarding the source of heterogeneity, meta-regression results indicated the efficacy of the intervention in reducing the severity of RLS enhanced significantly by increasing the duration of the intervention in each session (β=-0.039, 95% CI -0.076 to -0.002, <0.001). The results also showed increasing the duration (β=-0.039, 95% CI -0.076 to -0.002, P<0.001) and the temperature of the intervention in each session (β=-0.016, 95% CI -0.028 to -0.003, <0.05) significantly enhanced the efficacy of the intervention in reducing the severity of RLS. The results also indicated that, among patients with underlying clinical conditions, the effectiveness of temperature therapy was higher in hemodialysis patients (β=-2.006, 95% CI -2.736 to -1.276, <0.05). The present study findings suggested temperature therapy could mildly reduce the severity of RLS symptoms. It was also found that the highest efficacy of this intervention could be achieved when the higher temperature was used in fewer treatment sessions in hemodialysis patients. Based on our findings, this intervention can be included in the care plan of patients with RLS considering the settings described to achieve the highest efficacy.

OBJECTIVE
To systematically review, synthesize, and appraise available evidence, connecting adult ADHD with somatic disease.
METHOD
Embase, Psychinfo, and Medline databases were searched for studies published from 1994 to 2015 addressing adult ADHD and somatic comorbidity. Somatic conditions were classified according to International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) codes. Levels of evidence were graded as inconclusive, tentative, or well documented.
RESULTS
Most of the 126 studies included in the qualitative synthesis were small and of modest quality. Obesity, sleep disorders, and asthma were well-documented comorbidities in adult ADHD. Tentative evidence was found for an association between adult ADHD and migraine and celiac disease. In a large health registry study, cardiovascular disease was not associated with adult ADHD.
CONCLUSION
There are few large systematic studies using standardized diagnostic criteria evaluating adult ADHD and somatic comorbidities. Significant associations are found between adult ADHD and several somatic diseases, and these are important to consider when assessing and treating either adult ADHD or the somatic diseases.

Periodic limb movements of sleep (PLMS) are repetitive, stereotyped movements that can disrupt sleep and result in insomnia, non-restorative sleep, and/or daytime sleepiness. Currently, polysomnography is the gold standard and only clinically acceptable means of quantifying PLMS. Leg-worn actigraphy is an alternative method of measuring PLMS, which may circumvent many of the economic and technical limitations of polysomnography to quantify nocturnal leg movements. However, the use of leg actigraphy as a diagnostic means of assessing PLMS has not been systematically evaluated. In this review, the use of leg-worn actigraphy to measure PLMS is systematically evaluated, using both qualitative and quantitative assessment. Findings demonstrate significant heterogeneity among a limited number of studies in terms of type of actigraph utilized, position of the device on the lower extremity, and methods employed to count PLMS. In general, common accelerometers vary in their sensitivity and specificity to detect PLMS, which is likely related to the technical specifications of a given device. A current limitation in the ability to combine data from actigraphs placed on both legs is also a significant barrier to their use in clinical settings. Further research is required to determine the optimal methods to quantify PLMS using leg actigraphy, as well as specific clinical situations in which these devices may prove most useful.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disease caused due to the destruction of dopaminergic neurons and the deposition of α-synuclein proteins, known as Lewy bodies. Generally, the diagnosis of PD is centered around motor symptoms. However, the early recognition of non-motor symptoms such as autonomic dysfunction, sleep disturbances, and cognitive and psychiatric disturbances are gaining increased attention for the early diagnosis of PD. Rapid eye movement (REM) sleep behavior disorder or REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD) is described as parasomnia, which is a condition of loss of normal muscle atonia causing the person to act out vivid dreams and it has been seen to be associated with the misprocessing of intercellular α-synuclein leading to neurodegenerative diseases such as PD. This review's objective is to highlight the significance of RBD as a prodromal premotor marker for the early detection of PD. We used PubMed as our primary database to search for articles on May 2, 2021, and a total of 1849 articles were found in our initial search using keywords and medical subject heading (MeSH) keywords. Thereafter, we removed the duplicates, applied the inclusion/exclusion criteria, and did a quality appraisal to include 10 articles in this study. We concluded that the recognition and diagnosis of RBD are of paramount importance to detect early PD, and further longitudinal studies and clinical trials are of utmost importance to understand their correlation; also, treatment trials are needed to prevent the phenoconversion of RBD into PD.

BACKGROUND
Sleep-related eating disorder (SRED) consists of recurrent episodes of uncontrolled, involuntary eating and drinking 1-3 h after falling asleep with partial or full unconsciousness. This condition is diagnosed based on interviews with the patients affected and the diagnostic criteria of the International Classification of Sleep Disorders. However, polysomnography (PSG) is not necessary to confirm this disease. This systematic review aims to evaluate the findings of PSG in SRED patients.
METHODS
For this systematic review, PubMed, Embase, and Scopus databases were searched in February 2023, which resulted in 219 records. After removing duplicates, the articles that included the presentation of PSG results of SRED patients in English were selected. In addition, only original studies were considered. The risk of bias by using case reports and descriptive studies was assessed using the Joanna Briggs Institute critical appraisal tools and the Risk of Bias In Non-randomized Studies of Interventions (ROBINS-I) tool. Furthermore, a case report of a 66-year-old woman with SRED was included.
RESULTS
A total of 15 papers were selected for further analysis, of which 7 were descriptive studies, 6 were case reports, and 2 were observational studies. The risk of bias in the majority of the studies was moderate or high. Unexpectedly, if the eating episode occurred during PSG, in most cases it was not observed during deep sleep (the N3 sleep stage). Moreover, studies did not report significant deviations in the sleep parameters measured using PSG. Among SRED patients, the prevalence of sleepwalking was much higher than the general population. Our case report presented a potentially life-threatening episode of holding an apple in the mouth that might result in choking, which was captured using PSG.
CONCLUSION
Polysomnography is not necessary for the diagnosis of SRED. However, it could facilitate the diagnosis and differentiation of SRED from other eating disorders. PSG also has limitations in capturing eating episodes and in addition, its cost effectiveness should be considered during the diagnostic process. More studies into the pathophysiology of SRED are needed because classifying SRED as non-rapid eye movement parasomnias can be inappropriate as it does not always occur during deep sleep.

OBJECTIVES
Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a common complaint in patients undergoing hemodialysis (HD). Despite the fact that the estimated prevalence of RLS among HD patients is widely reported, these results varied significantly in the relevant literature. Due to this limitation, the aim of this study was to determine the global prevalence of RLS among HD patients.
METHODS
This systematic review was conducted and reported in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses 2020 statement. We searched the electronic databases: Cochrane Library, PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, China Knowledge Resource Integrated Database, Wanfang Database, Chinese Biomedical Database, and Weipu Database. A random effects model was employed to calculate pooled prevalence rates.
RESULTS
The global pooled prevalence of RLS in HD patients was 27.2% (95% CI: 24.8-29.7). Stratified analyses demonstrated that included studies with sample size <100 had the highest pooled prevalence of RLS. The prevalence of RLS using clinical interviews and questionnaires was 28.7% (95% CI: 25.2-32.2) and 25.9% (95% CI: 22.8-29.1), respectively. RLS prevalence is higher in females (29.7%, 95% CI: 26.2-33.2) HD patients than in males (23.5%, 95% CI: 20.9-26.0), and the African region has the highest prevalence in the world when the diagnostic criteria were restricted to the 2003 version of International RLS Study Group criteria, the prevalence of RLS was highest (28.9%, 95% CI: 25.9-31.9).
CONCLUSION
Our results revealed a high RLS prevalence in HD patients worldwide. However, the prevalence of RLS among HD patients varied significantly based on sample size, data collection method, gender, diagnostic criteria, and geographical region.

Augmentation is a common complication of primary restless legs syndrome (RLS) during treatment; however, its incidence rate remains unclear.The aim of this study is investigate the rate of augmentation during RLS treatment.We searched 6 databases, including PubMed, OVID, Embase, Wiley citations, Web of Science research platform (including SciELO Citation Index, Medline, KCI Korean Journal Database, the Web of Science™ Core Collection), and the Cochrane library, and screened the reference lists of the included trials and recently published reviews.Randomized controlled trials and observational studies that reported augmentation events during RLS treatment.Primary RLS patients older than 18 years.No restrictions regarding intervention types were applied.Three investigators independently extracted and pooled the data to analyze the augmentation rate of the total sample and of patient subgroups with different interventions, treatment durations and drug regimens and different geographic origins. Fixed-effects or random-effects model was used for pooled analysis.A total of 60 studies involving 11,543 participants suggested an overall augmentation rate of 5.6% (95% confidence intervals (CI), 4.0-7.7). The augmentation incidence was 6.1% (95% CI, 4.1-9.1) for long-term treatment and 3.3% (95% CI, 1.4-7.3) for short-term treatment. In addition, 27.1% (95% CI, 12.3-49.5) of the levodopa-treated patients, 6.0% (95% CI, 4.1-8.8) of the patients treated with dopamine agonists, and 0.9% (95% CI, 0.2-3.3) of the patients taking pregabalin or gabapentin developed augmentation. Augmentation occurred in 7.2% (95% CI, 5.0-10.3) of the patients taking immediate-release drugs and in 1.7% (95% CI, 0.6-5.0) of the patients taking transdermal application.The main limitations are that the augmentation rates were not evaluated according to drug dosage, gender, and age and symptom severity.Approximately 5 to 6 in 100 RLS patients developed augmentation during treatment.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE
The exact prevalence of sleep disorders following stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA) remains unclear. We aimed to determine the prevalence of sleep-disordered breathing, insomnia, periodic leg movement during sleep, and restless leg syndrome following stroke or TIA in acute, subacute, and chronic phases and examine the moderating effects of patient characteristics (eg, age) and methodological features (eg, study quality) on the prevalence.
METHODS
We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis. Embase and PubMed were searched from inception to December 18, 2019. We included 64 047 adults in 169 studies (prospective, retrospective, case-control, and cross-sectional study designs) reporting the prevalence of sleep disorders following stroke or TIA.
RESULTS
In the acute phase, the overall prevalence of mild, moderate, and severe sleep-disordered breathing was 66.8%, 50.3%, and 31.6% (95% CIs, 63.8-69.7, 41.9-58.7, and 24.9-39.1). In the subacute phase, the prevalence of mild, moderate, and severe sleep-disordered breathing was 65.5%, 44.3%, and 36.1% (95% CIs, 58.9-71.5, 36.1-52.8, and 22.2-52.8). In the chronic phase, the summary prevalence of mild, moderate, and severe sleep-disordered breathing was 66.2%, 33.1%, and 25.1% (95% CIs, 58.6-73.1, 24.8-42.6, and 10.9-47.6). The prevalence rates of insomnia in the acute, subacute, and chronic phases were 40.7%, 42.6%, and 35.9% (95% CIs, 31.8-50.3, 31.7-54.1, and 28.6-44.0). The pooled prevalence of periodic leg movement during sleep in the acute, subacute, and chronic phases was 32.0%, 27.3%, and 48.2% (95% CIs, 7.4-73.5, 11.6-51.7, and 33.1-63.5). The summary prevalence of restless leg syndrome in the acute and chronic phases was 10.4% and 13.7% (95 CIs, 6.4-16.4 and 2.3-51.8). Age, sex, comorbidities, smoking history, and study region had significant moderating effects on the prevalence of sleep disorders.
CONCLUSIONS
Sleep disorders following stroke or TIA are highly prevalent over time. Our findings indicate the importance of early screening and treating sleep disorders following stroke or TIA.

METHODOLOGY
This systematic review was registered in PROSPERO (CRD42018094561). A search was conducted for articles published in or before May 2021. To qualify for eligibility in this review, the studies had to be case-controls, cohort or cross-sectional. The inclusion criteria were the articles with a group of patients with bruxism and a control group in which the presence of these SNPs was evaluated. The exclusion criteria were the investigations of other polymorphisms, the studies that did not consider a control group for comparison, case reports, and reviews. The NOS and JBI were used to evaluate the methodological quality of studies.
RESULTS
We conducted this study with databases, such as Web of Science, Scopus, Embase, PubMed/MEDLINE, and ProQuest. We considered four studies eligible. A total of 672 participants were included,187 with sleep bruxism, 105 with awake bruxism, 89 with sleep and awake bruxism, and 291 controls. One study found a strong association between the SNPs rs6313, rs2770304 and rs4941573 of the 5-HT2A receptor gene and sleep bruxism. In one study, we considered the C allele of the SNP rs2770304 a risk factor for sleep bruxism. We found no significant results of other SNPs in sleep bruxers compared to controls. We found no positive association concerning the SNPs and groups of awake bruxism and sleep and awake bruxism.
CONCLUSION
The different results regarding the SNPs in sleep bruxers could be explained by the genetic distinction between Chilean, Mexican, Japanese, and Polish population. More clinical trials and prospective studies must be conducted with larger sample size and in different ethnicities to confirm the results of this review.

REM-sleep behavior disorder (RBD) is a parasomnia and a common sleep disorder in Parkinson's disease (PD). While deep brain stimulation (DBS) is an established treatment for advanced PD with beneficial effects on cardinal PD motor symptoms, the data on the impact of DBS on RBD are limited and often controversial. We reviewed published articles that reported on RBD in the context of DBS surgery via systematic PubMed search. We identified 75 studies and included 12 studies, involving a total of 320 subjects, in our review. Results in respect to EMG activity outcome after subthalamic stimulation are inconsistent. We found no study that reported on RBD outcome after pallidal DBS and no DBS study quantified complex behavior during REM sleep. We also added data on RBD outcome after subthalamic (N = 4 patients) or pallidal (N = 3 patients) DBS from patients with PD with RBD, obtained as part of a prospective DBS study in our centre. Our case series showed an increase of complex behavior during REM (CB-REM) after surgery, independent of DBS target. Conversely, we found a trend towards increasing REM sleep without atonia (RSWA) in subthalamic-stimulated patients and a trend towards decreased RSWA in pallidal stimulated patients. We conclude that CB-REM and RSWA might represent two distinct elements in RBD and should be assessed separately, especially in studies that report on RBD outcome after treatment interventions. Further, larger, prospective, controlled studies in different DBS targets, reporting separately on the different RBD modalities, are needed.
