The skin being a passive biological barrier that defends the organism against harmful external factors is also a site of action of the system responding to stress. It appears that melatonin (Mel) and its biologically active metabolite AFMK (N1-acetyl-N2-formyl-5-methoxykynuramine), both known as effective antioxidants, together with cortisol, set up a local (cutaneous) stress response system (CSRS) of fish, similar to that of mammals. Herein we comment on recent studies on CSRS in fish and show the response of three-spined stickleback skin to oxidative stress induced by potassium dichromate. Our study indicates that exposure of the three-spined stickleback to KCrO affects Mel and cortisol levels and pigment dispersion in melanophores in the skin. In our opinion, an increased concentration of Mel and cortisol in the skin may be the strategy to cope with oxidative stress, where both components act locally to prevent damage caused by active oxygen molecules. Furthermore, the pigment dispersion may be a valuable, easy-to-observe mark of oxidative stress, useful in the evaluation of fish welfare.

BACKGROUND
Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) is a delayed type of hypersensitivity from contact with a specific allergen to which the patients has developed a specific sensitivity. The aim of the study was to evaluate the results of epicutaneous patch testing with standard series of contact allergen in patients suspected to have ACD.
METHODS
355 cases of ACD were included in the study. Test substances were applied on the upper part of the patient's back, on clinically uninvolved and untreated skin. All patients were free from therapy with oral antihistamines, steroids and immunosuppressants. The patch test was removed and reaction were evaluated after 48 h and 72 h. Grading of negative (-) to positive (+ to ++++) patch test was done according to the International Contact Dermatitis Research Group. Statistical data analysis was performed by using χ-test.
RESULTS
Of the 355 cases, 146 patients were male (41.1%) and 209 were female (58.9%). The youngest patients in the study was 16 years of age and the oldest was 67 years of age. The commonest age group affected was 41-50 years. Hands were the most common site of involvement. The occupational character of skin lesions was find in 75 (21.1%). The most common positive reactions were recorded to nickel sulphate 99 (27.8%), cobalt chloride 46 (12.9%), thimerosal 31 (8.7%), colophony 23 (6.5%), carba mix 21 (5.9%), potassium dichromate 20 (5.6%), acid chromici 19 (5.3%), fragrance mix 18 (5%), balsam of Peru 13 (3.7%), formaldehyde 9 (2.5%), and other allergens 26 (7.3%). Females were significantly more likely to show a positive response to two or more allergens (p<0.05). There was no statistically significant impact of age, occupation and duration of disease on results of patch testing (p>0.05).
CONCLUSIONS
Our results indicate that nickel sulphate, cobalt chloride and thimerosal are the most common allergens responsible for induction of ACD. These findings are crucial in the treatment, long term management, an education of patients with ACD.

Coccidiosis due to spp. are widespread parasitic infections in cattle and water buffaloes and may impair health, welfare, and production of these livestock species. The aims of this study were (i) to investigate the prevalence and seasonal dynamics of eimeriosis and (ii) to characterize the species in large ruminants in a Mediterranean area, in order to plan effective control strategies. Parasitological data were obtained from a 10-year surveillance program (2010-2019) on 3,631 farms (2,089 buffalo and 1,542 cattle farms) sampled in central and southern Italy. Pooled fecal samples were analyzed using the FLOTAC technique with an analytic sensitivity of 2 oocysts per gram of feces (OPG) utilizing a saturated sodium chloride flotation solution (specific gravity = 1.200). species identification was performed by morphometric analysis after a one week incubation of oocysts in a 2.5% potassium dichromate solution. The results showed high prevalence of (up to 100%) in both cattle and buffaloes in the 10 years of surveillance, even if a slight reduction was reported in the last three years. The overall prevalence of eimeriosis was 91.7% (95% confidence interval, 95% CI = 90.2-93.1) in cattle farms and 81.5% (95% CI = 79.8-83.1) in water buffalo farms. The mean OPG value was 66.8 (min = 2; max = 8,065) in cattle and 55.9 (min = 2; max = 15,415) in water buffaloes, but this difference was not statistically significant ( > 0.05). In total, nine species of were found in cattle the most prevalent being , and , whereas in water buffaloes eight species of were found, the most prevalent being , and . Mixed infections were common in both ruminant species. The seasonal pattern showed a higher prevalence of eimeriosis in cattle in spring (86.9%) whereas in buffalo farms the prevalence was higher in winter (82.3%) and summer (82.4%). In conclusion, the 10-year surveillance program indicates that eimeriosis is common in cattle and water buffaloes and therefore continuous effective control strategies are needed.

BACKGROUND
Soil degradation is one of the main problems in agricultural production and leads to decreases in soil quality and productivity. Improper farming practices speed this process and are therefore not conducive to food security. The North China Plain (NCP) is a key agricultural area that greatly influences food security in China. To explore the effects of different tillage measures on aggregate-associated organic carbon (AOC), the accumulation and transport of dry matter, and maize yield, and to identify the most suitable tillage method for use on the NCP, a field experiment was conducted at Shandong Agricultural University from 2016-2017 using plots that have been farmed using conservation tillage since 2002.
METHODS
In this study, Zhengdan 958 summer maize was used as the test material and undisturbed soil and plant samples were obtained under four tillage methods-no-tillage (NT, tillage depth: 0 cm); rotary tillage (RT, tillage depth: 10 cm); conventional tillage (CT, tillage depth: 20 cm); subsoiling (SS, tillage depth: 40 cm)-which were used to determine the AOC and dry matter contents, as well as the yields of two summer maize growing seasons. Each sample was replicated three times and the AOC content was determined via potassium dichromate oxidation colorimetry. Potassium dichromate oxidized organic carbon in organic matter was employed to reduce hexadecent chromium into green trivalent chromium. Colorimetry was then used to determine the amount of reduced trivalent chromium and calculate the organic matter content.
RESULTS
The resulting data were statistically analyzed and the results showed that, compared with CT, the AOC contents with NT and SS increased by 5.65% and 9.73%, respectively, while that with RT decreased by 0.12%. Conventional tillage resulted in the highest mean dry matter weight when the maize reached maturity, which was 19.19%, 9.83%, and 3.38% higher than those achieved using NT, RT, and SS, respectively. No significant difference was found between CT and SS treatments, both of which tended to increase the accumulation of dry matter as well as its contribution of assimilates to grain yield post-anthesis. Compared with CT, the mean yield increased at a rate of 0.18% with SS, while yields declined at rates of 17.17% and 11.15 with NT and RT, respectively. The yield with NT was the lowest, though the harvest indices with NT and SS were higher than those with RT and CT. Overall, SS increased the accumulation of dry matter and its contribution of assimilates to grain yields post-anthesis, as well as the AOC content and yields, making it the ideal tillage method for the NCP.

BACKGROUND
The photopatch test is used to detect photoallergic reactions to various antigens such as sunscreens and drugs. Photosensitive dermatitis can be caused due to antigens like parthenium, fragrances, rubbers and metals. The photopatch test does not contain these antigens. Therefore, the Indian Standard Series (ISS) along with the Standard photopatch series from Chemotechnique Diagnostics, Sweden was used to detect light induced antigens.
AIM
To detect light induced antigens in patients with photosensitive dermatitis.
METHODS
This study was done in a descriptive, observer blinded manner. Photopatch test and ISS were applied in duplicate on the patient's back by the standard method. After 24 hours, readings were recorded according to ICDRG criteria. One side was closed and other side irradiated with 14 J/cm(2) of UVA and a second set of readings were recorded after 48 hrs.
RESULT
The highest positivity was obtained with parthenium, with 18 out of 35 (51%) patients showing a positive patch test reaction with both photoallergic contact dermatitis and photoaggravation. Four patients (11%) showed positive patch test reaction suggestive of contact dermatitis to potassium dichromate and fragrance mix. Six patients had contact dermatitis to numerous antigens such as nickel, cobalt, chinoform and para-phenylenediamine. None of these patients showed photoaggravation on patch testing.
CONCLUSION
Parthenium was found to cause photoallergy, contact dermatitis with photoaggravation and contact allergy. Hence, photopatch test and UV irradiated patch test can be an important tool to detect light induced antigens in patients with photosensitive dermatitis.

Fluorinated Siloxane Modified Layered Double Hydroxide Sealing Film to Enhance the Corrosion Resistance of Anodic Oxide Film of Fricition Stir Welding Joint of Aluminum Alloys.
Aluminum alloys and their welding structures have been widely used in aviation, aerospace, automobiles, ships, and other industrial fields. The non-uniform nature of welding structures of aluminum alloys causes intractable corrosion problems. Anodizing and subsequent sealing processes are common and effective methods to improve the corrosion resistance of welding structures. However, traditional sealing processes like hot water sealing and potassium dichromate sealing are criticized due to energy consumption or toxicity. In this work, a layered double hydroxide (LDH) sealing process with subsequent fluorinated siloxane modification is proposed to improve the corrosion resistance of the anodic oxide film of friction stir welding joints of typical aluminum alloys. The obtained sealing film with typical lamelliform structures of LDH grows well at the defects of oxidation film and also smoothens the sample surface. The hydrophobicity of the film can separate the corrosive medium from the sample surface and further enhance corrosion resistance. As a result, the corrosion current of the welded sample in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution plummets about 3~4 orders of magnitude compared to the initial state without anodizing, indicating superior corrosion resistance brought by this method.

Systemic characterization of the human gut microbiota highlighted its vast therapeutic potential. Despite having enormous potential, the non-availability of their culture representatives created a bottleneck to understand the concept of microbiome-based therapeutics. The present study is aimed to isolate and evaluate the probiotic potential of a human gut isolate. Physiochemical, morphological, and phylogenetic characterization of a human gut isolate identifies it as a rod-shaped gram-negative microbe taxonomically affiliated with the genus, having an optimal growth at 37°C in a partially alkaline environment (pH 8.0). This human gut isolate showed continuous growth in the presence of salts (up to 7% NaCl and 10% KCl), antibiotics, metals and metalloids [silver nitrate (up to 2 mM); lead acetate (up to 2 mM); sodium arsenate (up to 10 mM); potassium dichromate (up to 2 mM)], gastric and intestinal conditions, diverse temperature (25-50°C), and pH (5-9) conditions making it fit to survive in the highly variable gut environment. Genomic characterization identified the presence of gene clusters for diverse bio-catalytic activity, stress response, and antimicrobial activity, as well as it indicated the absence of pathogenic gene islands. A combination of functional features like anti-amylase, anti-lipase, glutenase, prolyl endopeptidase, lactase, bile salt hydrolase, cholesterol oxidase, and anti-pathogenic activity is indicative of its probiotic potential in various disorders. This was further substantiated by the CaCo-2 cell line assay confirming its cellular adherence and biosafety. Conclusively, human gut isolate possessed significant probiotic potential that can be used to promote animal and human health.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES
Contact dermatitis is a common reason for consultation in dermatology. Sensitization levels and frequency, however, vary from one population to the next. The aim of this study was to review patch test results showing sensitization to allergens in the Spanish standard series in the Canary Islands, where a large proportion of the population works in tourism.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
Retrospective, descriptive study of data from the dermatology department's contact dermatitis unit at Complejo Hospitalario Universitario Insular in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain. We studied results recorded for patients patch tested with the Spanish standard series between January 2005 and June 2018.
RESULTS
Data for 1568 patients were studied; 71.6% were women, and overall rates of atopy (14.2%) and occupational dermatitis (15.8%) were low. Most patients with a positive test (65.2%) were older than 40years. The main allergens eliciting positive reactions were nickel (36.5%), methylchloroisothiazolinone/methylisothiazolinone (11.9%), methylisothiazolinone (11.8%), paraphenylenediamine (7.5%), and potassium dichromate (6.3%).
CONCLUSIONS
Contact sensitization rates were higher than those reported elsewhere in Spain for most of the allergens studied. The differences were particularly notable for nickel, methylchloroisothiazolinone/methylisothiazolinone, and paraphenylenediamine.

Based on the gas-liquid phase chemiluminescence tester independently developed by our laboratory, a highly sensitive, fast and accurate on-line detection method of formaldehyde gas in ambient atmosphere is established. The chemiluminescence system and the trace formaldehyde gas in the air directly undergo an interface heterogeneous chemiluminescence reaction to obtain a strong chemiluminescence signal. Through the measurement of the chemiluminescence signal intensity, a highly sensitive, real-time and on-line method for the determination of formaldehyde in the air was established. Factors influencing the experimental results such as gallic acid, potassium dichromate, reaction medium concentration, surfactant type and concentration, pump speed, tube length, and interfering gas were discussed based on the single factor and orthogonal analysis results. Finally, the optimal detection conditions were collected, and the detection results were compared with the national standard phenol reagent method. The results show that when the concentration of the standard formaldehyde gas is in the range of 0-0.582 μg L, the linear equation of this method is = 208 + 29.667, the linear coefficient is = 0.997, and the minimum detection concentration of formaldehyde is 2.327 × 10 μg L. Under the same external conditions, the comparison and analysis using the national standard phenol reagent method proved that this method has the advantages of fast detection speed, low detection limit, good sensitivity, and accurate results, which can be used for real-time and online determination of trace formaldehyde in ambient air.

IMPORTANCE
Atopic dermatitis (AD) and allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) have a dynamic relationship not yet fully understood. Investigation has been limited thus far by a paucity of data on the overlap of these disorders in pediatric patients.
OBJECTIVE
To use data from the Pediatric Contact Dermatitis Registry to elucidate the associations and sensitizations among patients with concomitant AD and ACD.
DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS
This retrospective case review examined 1142 patch test cases of children younger than 18 years, who were registered between January 1, 2015, and December 31, 2015, by 84 health care providers (physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants) from across the United States. Data were gathered electronically from multidisciplinary providers within outpatient clinics throughout the United States on pediatric patients (ages 0-18 years).
EXPOSURES
All participants were patch-tested to assess sensitizations to various allergens; history of AD was noted by the patch-testing providers.
MAIN OUTCOMES AND MEASURES
Primary outcomes were sensitization rates to various patch-tested allergens.
RESULTS
A total of 1142 patients were evaluated: 189 boys (34.2%) and 363 girls (65.8%) in the AD group and 198 boys (36.1%) and 350 girls (63.9%) in the non-AD group (data on gender identification were missing for 17 patients). Compared with those without AD, patch-tested patients with AD were 1.3 years younger (10.5 vs 11.8 years; P < .001) and had longer history of dermatitis (3.5 vs 1.8 years; P < .001). Patch-tested patients designated as Asian or African American were more likely to have concurrent AD (odds ratio [OR], 1.92; 95% CI, 1.20-3.10; P = .008; and OR, 4.09; 95% CI, 2.70-6.20; P <.001, respectively). Patients with AD with generalized distribution were the most likely to be patch tested (OR, 4.68; 95% CI, 3.50-6.30; P < .001). Patients with AD had different reaction profiles than those without AD, with increased frequency of reactions to cocamidopropyl betaine, wool alcohol, lanolin, tixocortol pivalate, and parthenolide. Patients with AD were also noted to have lower frequency of reaction to methylisothiazolinone, cobalt, and potassium dichromate.
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE
Children with AD showed significant reaction patterns to allergens notable for their use in skin care preparations. This study adds to the current understanding of AD in ACD, and the continued need to investigate the interplay between these disease processes to optimize care for pediatric patients with these conditions.
