Monkeypox (mpox) is a significant health concern affecting children and adolescents globally. This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to synthesise the available evidence on the proportion of children and adolescents affected by the mpox virus. A comprehensive search was conducted in seven electronic databases (PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, EMBASE, ProQuest, EBSCOHost, and Cochrane) to identify the original reports on mpox cases in children and adolescents till 15 January 2023. Descriptive reports on probable or laboratory-confirmed mpox in children and adolescents (0-17 years old) were considered eligible. Studies not providing separate data for the above age group and case-control studies were excluded. The primary outcome was pooled proportion of mpox cases among children and adolescents. Proportion meta-analysis and heterogeneity between studies were determined using a restricted maximum likelihood estimator, and a random-effects model was fitted to the data. Sensitivity analysis and subgroup analysis were also conducted. A drapery plot was also provided as a complementary figure to the forest plot. The protocol was prospectively registered with PROSPERO (CRD42023392475). A total of 440 studies were identified, of which 37 were included in the review and 25 in the meta-analysis (62,701 participants with 3306 children and adolescents). The pooled proportion of children and adolescents was 0.46 (95% CI: 0.30-0.63, I :100%). The proportion of children and adolescents was significantly lower (p < 0.001) in the ongoing pandemic 0.04 (95% CI: 0.00-0.32) than before 2022 0.62 (95% CI: 0.49-0.74). The meta-regression showed that the higher the study's sample size, the lower the proportion of children among the mpox cases. Both overall and subgroup heterogeneity were high. Adolescents and children below 5 years are commonly affected by the ongoing pandemic. In conclusion, the high proportion of children affected by the mpox virus highlights the need for increased research and targeted interventions to prevent and control the spread of the virus in this population.

OBJECTIVE
To investigate the associations between adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) and physical activity (PA).
DATA SOURCES
MEDLINE, EMBASE, AMED, SPORTDiscus, Cochrane Library, and CINAHL electronic databases were searched from inception to August 2022/plus citation tracking.
STUDY SELECTION
Observational studies of participants with radiographically confirmed AIS with ≥10° lateral spinal curvature (Cobb method) and comparator groups without AIS that measured PA were selected by 2 reviewers.
DATA EXTRACTION
Data were extracted independently and cross-checked by 2 reviewers. Risk of bias was evaluated using Newcastle Ottawa Scales and overall confidence in the evidence using the GRADE approach.
DATA SYNTHESIS
Sixteen studies with 9627 participants (9162, 95% women) were included. A history of vigorous PA significantly reduced the odds of being newly diagnosed with AIS by 24% (odds ratio [OR] 0.76, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.65-0.89) (high certainty). Moderate PA reduced odds by 13% (moderate certainty) and light PA increased odds by 9% (low certainty), but neither analysis was statistically significant. Ballet or gymnastics (OR 1.47, 95% CI 3.08 (1.90, 5.00) were the only individual sports significantly associated with AIS diagnosis (moderate certainty). Case-control studies of people with and without AIS provided greater evidence that having AIS reduces vigorous PA and sports participation, and less evidence light PA and walking are affected.
CONCLUSION
Adolescents who participate in more vigorous PA are less likely to be diagnosed with AIS. Ballet and gymnastics are associated with AIS diagnosis, but the direction of this association is uncertain. People with AIS are likely to do less vigorous physical and sporting activity compared with those without AIS, which could negatively affect health and quality of life. Further research is warranted into the inter-relations between PA and AIS, studies need to be of sufficient size, include men, and evaluate vigorous including higher-impact PA compared with moderate or light PA.

Associations Between Headache (Migraine and Tension-Type Headache) and Psychological Symptoms (Depression and Anxiety) in Pediatrics: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.
BACKGROUND
There have been no recent meta-analysis studies on specific psychological symptoms (depression and anxiety) according to the type of primary headache disorder in children and adolescents.
OBJECTIVES
We performed a meta-analysis of various psychodiagnostic scales. Psychological symptoms of primary headache disorders have been reported in previous studies.
STUDY DESIGN
A systematic review and meta-analysis.
METHODS
We conducted systematic reviews using the PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Scopus databases up to October 19, 2022. Ten studies were selected by applying the inclusion criteria. The psychological symptoms (depression and anxiety) of children and adolescents with migraine and tension-type headache (TTH) were compared with those of healthy controls using scale scores. All statistical analyses of the pooled data were performed using RevMan 5.3 software.
RESULTS
Psychodiagnostic tools to assess depression scored higher in patients with migraine than in healthy controls; however, most anxiety-related scores were not significantly different between the migraine and control groups. In contrast, anxiety-related scores were higher in patients with TTH than in healthy controls, but the score to measure the degree of depressive symptoms was not significantly different from the control group in patients with TTH.
LIMITATIONS
A limited number of studies for each scale were included. In addition, each scale has different sensitivities and specificities, which may have affected the results. In addition, we did not evaluate the differences in psychological symptoms according to the frequency and severity of headaches.
CONCLUSIONS
Depression is more associated with migraine; whereas, anxiety is more associated with TTH than healthy controls. Therefore, the screening and assessment of psychological symptoms should be performed in children and adolescents with primary headache disorders.

BACKGROUND
Down syndrome (DS) is the most common genetic disorder. To date, the scientific literature regarding micronutrient status in children and adolescents with DS has not been systematically reviewed. Therefore, our aim was to provide a systematic review and meta-analysis on this topic.
METHODS
We identified all relevant case-control studies published by 1 January 2022, by searching the PubMed and Scopus databases for original English-language articles analysing the micronutrient status of individuals with DS. Forty studies were included in the systematic review and 31 in the meta-analysis.
RESULTS
Statistically significant differences between individuals with DS (cases) and non-DS (controls) (P ≤ 0.05) were obtained for zinc, selenium, copper, vitamin B12, sodium and calcium. Serum, plasma and whole blood analyses showed lower zinc levels in cases than controls {standardised mean difference [SMD] serum [95% confidence interval (CI)] = -2.32 [-3.22, -1.41], P < 0.00001; SMD plasma [95% CI] = -1.29 [-2.26, -0.31], P < 0.01; SMD blood [95% CI] = -1.59 [-2.29, -0.89], P < 0.00001}. Similarly, plasma and blood selenium concentrations were significantly lower in cases than controls (SMD plasma [95% CI] = -1.39 [-2.26, -0.51], P = 0.002; SMD blood [95% CI] = -1.86 [-2.59, -1.13], P < 0.00001). Intraerythrocytic copper and serum B12 were higher in cases than controls (SMD Cu [95% CI] = 3.33 [2.19, 4.46], P < 0.00001; SMD B12 [95% CI] = 0.89 [0.01, 1.77], P = 0.048). Blood calcium was lower in cases than controls (SMD Ca [95% CI] = -0.77 [-1.34, -0.21], P = 0.007).
CONCLUSIONS
This study provides the first systematic overview of micronutrient status in children and adolescents with DS and has shown that relatively little consistent research has been executed in this field. There is a clear need for more well-designed, clinical trials to study the micronutrient status and effects of dietary supplements in children and adolescents with DS.

BACKGROUND AND HYPOTHESIS
Psychotic experiences (PEs) are associated with increased risk for mental disorders, in particular persistent PEs. PEs therefore might be useful within intervention research. We sought to systematically determine the incidence and persistence of PEs in the general population.
STUDY DESIGN
A double-blind search of databases (Embase, Pubmed PMC, Psychinfo, Medline, and Web of Science) from inception to January 2023 and data extraction, were conducted. Study quality was assessed using the NIH assessment tool. Random effects models were conducted to calculate pooled incidence rate per person-year and proportion of persistent PEs per year. Age and study design were all examined using subgroup analyses. Demographic, risk factors, and outcomes for incidence and persistence of PEs were reported in a narrative synthesis.
STUDY RESULTS
Using a double-blind screening method for abstract (k = 5763) and full text (k = 250) were screened. In total 91 samples from 71 studies were included, of which 39 were included in a meta-analysis (incidence: k = 17, n = 56 089; persistence: k = 22, n = 81 847). Incidence rate was 0.023 per person-year (95% CI [0.0129;0.0322]). That is, for every 100 people, 2 reported first onset PEs in a year. This was highest in adolescence at 5 per 100(13-17 years). The pooled persistence rate for PEs was 31.0% (95% CI [26.65,35.35]) This was highest in adolescence at 35.8%. Cannabis was particularly associated with incidence of PEs, and persistence of PEs were associated with multiple mental disorders.
CONCLUSIONS
Each year incidence of PEs is 2 of every 100 people, and persists each year in 31% of cases, this risk is highest in adolescents.

OBJECTIVE
To evaluate if children and adolescents with a diagnosis of ASD or ADHD have distinct executive function (EF) profiles.
METHODS
Peer-reviewed articles comparing ASD, ADHD, and typically developing individuals under 19 years of age were identified. The domains evaluated were: working memory, response inhibition, planning, cognitive flexibility, attention, processing speed, and visuospatial abilities.
RESULTS
Fifty-eight articles met inclusion criteria. Analyses were performed on 45 performance metrics from 24 individual tasks. No differences in EF were found between individuals diagnosed with ASD and ADHD. Individuals diagnosed with ASD and ADHD exhibited worse performance in attention, flexibility, visuospatial abilities, working memory, processing speed, and response inhibition than typically developing individuals. Groups did not differ in planning abilities.
CONCLUSION
Children and adolescents with ASD and ADHD have similar EF profiles. Further research is needed to determine if comorbidity accounts for the commonality in executive dysfunction between each disorder.

INTRODUCTION
Adolescence is a crucial stage of physical and sexual maturation and development and a period in which understanding sexual and reproductive health (SRH) is important. SRH interventions and toolkits provide a range of valuable resources and information to young people, educators, and members of the community on numerous topics, including contraception and puberty.
OBJECTIVES
The usefulness and reliability of these available toolkits have not been previously studied, thus limiting our understanding of their appropriateness and contents. Hence, this scoping review aimed to synthesize the available toolkits aimed at the SRH of adolescents and young adults to understand the contents, design, and information gaps.
METHODS
A systematic search was conducted of 6 medical databases and 12 gray literature sites. Sixteen toolkits published globally before May 2023 were included in our review.
RESULTS
The majority of toolkits (n = 12) contained information related to general SRH knowledge and contraception, whereas only 3 contained information on teenage pregnancy. We found that aiming the toolkits toward educators and health care workers was a favorable design over targeting adolescents and young adults directly and that vulnerable youth-including LGBTQI+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, asexual or allied, intersex, and additional identities) and youth from humanitarian settings-were not well represented.
CONCLUSION
We identified key gaps in the inclusion of information in a range of SRH topics, such as LGBTQI+ sexuality, teenage pregnancy, and safe abortion, in the currently available SRH toolkits and their lack of applicability in a global context. Furthermore, we provide recommendations for areas of improvement to encourage adolescents' agency in their SRH education.

PURPOSE
The development of vocabulary size in deaf/hard of hearing (DHH) children and adolescents can be delayed compared to their peers due to lack of access to early language input. Complementary vocabulary interventions are reported in the literature. Our aim is to evaluate the effectiveness of intervention methods for their vocabulary improvement.
METHOD
Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines, we searched five databases for peer-reviewed journal articles in English, published between 2000 and 2022 (inclusive), reporting vocabulary interventions for 2- to 18-year-old DHH children and adolescents without comorbidities. We conducted separate meta-analyses using a random-effects model on receptive oral vocabulary, expressive oral vocabulary, and signed vocabulary. We assessed the methodological quality of each paper. This review is preregistered in PROSPERO (International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews) with ID CRD42021243479.
RESULTS
We included 25 group studies in this review out of 1,724 identified records. The quality assessment of the studies revealed risk of bias ranging from some concerns to high risk. Experimental vocabulary instruction produced improvement in receptive oral vocabulary (Hedges's = 1.08, 95% CI [0.25, 1.90], = 93.46, = .01), expressive oral vocabulary (Hedges's = 1.00, 95% CI [0.18, 1.83], = 96.37, = .02), and signed vocabulary (Hedges's = 1.88, 95% CI [1.09, 2.66], = 96.01, < .001) in the experimental groups. Written vocabulary and general vocabulary skills are also reported as a synthesis of results.
CONCLUSIONS
Multisensory and multimodal explicit vocabulary instruction for DHH children and adolescents is helpful in improving vocabulary acquisition with respect to baseline levels. However, its effectiveness must be carefully interpreted due to the lack of proper control groups and details on reported in the studies.

BACKGROUND
Childhood obesity is one of the main concerns of public health. Considering its long-term adverse health effect, various studies investigated the effect of drug therapy on anthropometric parameters and provided mixed results. In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we aimed to determine the effect of Orlistat on anthropometrics and biochemical parameters in children and adolescents.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
The databases of PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science were searched until September 2022. Experimental and semi-experimental studies were included if they evaluated the effect of Orlistat on obesity-related parameters in children and reported the before and after anthropometric values. A revised Cochrane risk-of-bias (Rob2) was used to evaluate the methodological quality. STATA software version 16.0 was used for the meta-analysis of the random-effect model.
RESULTS
Of 810 articles retrieved in the initial search, four experimental and two semi-experimental studies were selected for systematic review. The result of the meta-analysis of experimental studies indicated the significant effect of Orlistat on waist circumference (SMD: -0.27, 95% CI: -0.47, -0.07) and serum insulin level (SMD: -0.89, 95% CI: -1.52, 0.26). However, there were no significant effects of orlistat on body weight, body mass index, lipid profile, and serum glucose level.
CONCLUSION
The present meta-analysis showed the significant effect of Orlistat on the reduction of waist circumference and insulin level in overweight and obese adolescents. However, due to the paucity of studies included in the meta-analysis, more prospective studies with longer duration and more sample sizes will be needed in this age group.

Obesity represents a risk factor for multiple coexisting conditions and complications. Liraglutide is mainly reserved for populations who fail to achieve weight loss goals with lifestyle changes alone. This study aims to systematically evaluate the safety and effectiveness of liraglutide in weight management in children and youth. A systematic search was performed of PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science from inception to February 23rd, 2023. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating the effects of liraglutide in children and youth were included. All data analyses were performed using Review Manager 5.3 version. Seven eligible articles were finally included, covering a population of 547 participants. Liraglutide use was associated with reduced body weight (WMD: -2.13 kg; 95%CI: -4.23, -0.03), BMI (WMD: -1.56 kg/m; 95% CI: -2.41, -0.7), and BMI SDS (WMD: -0.17; 95% CI: -0.26, -0.08). Similar associations were found in HbA1c (WMD: -0.29%; 95% CI: -0.52, -0.06) and fasting plasma glucose (SMD: -0.39; 95% CI: -0.64, -0.14). Subgroup analysis shows an improvement in HbA1c control only among children with type 2 diabetes (WMD: -1.06%; 95% CI: -1.44, -0.67). No differences were found in fasting serum insulin, SBP, DBP, HDL, LDL, and TG between liraglutide and placebo. In addition, no difference was found in the frequencies of adverse events, serious adverse events, and adverse events resulting in discontinuation of therapy between liraglutide and placebo treatment groups.
CONCLUSION
Liraglutide is safe and effective in weight-reducing and glycemic control in children and adolescents.
WHAT IS KNOWN
• A few first-line treatment of these children and adolescents with overweight and obesity is a multi-component lifestyle intervention. • Lifestyle modifications are not suitable for all individuals, therefore, new treatment strategies urgent need to be established.
WHAT IS NEW
• This is the first meta-analysis conducted to assess the efficacy and safety of liraglutide for weight management in children and adolescents. • Liraglutide is safe and effective in weight-reducing and glycemic control in children and adolescents.
