The purpose of the present study was to perform a systematic review focusing on oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMD) in Fanconi anemia (FA) individuals. Electronic searches were undertaken in five databases supplemented by manual scrutiny and gray literature. Case reports and/or cases series were included. The searches yielded 55 studies describing 112 cases of OSCC (n = 107) and/or OPMD (n = 5) in FA individuals. The mean age at diagnosis of OSCC/OPMD was 27.1 (±9.6) years, and females (51.8 %) were slightly more affected. Ulcer (n = 37) or mass (n = 25) were described as clinical presentations for OSCC and OPMD. White lesions (n = 4) were the most common manifestation in OPMD. Tongue (47.2 %) was the most frequent location. Sixty-one (54.5 %) individuals underwent HSCT. Surgical resection (n = 75) was the main treatment adopted. The estimated rate of OPMD malignant transformation was 1.8 % and recurrences following OSCC excision occurred in 26.8 % of individuals. Overall, at 60 months of follow-up, the probability of survival fell to 25.5 % and at 64 months the probability of recurrence increased to 63.2 %. The present data support the need for strict surveillance of patients with FA, even in the absence of OPMD, for early OSCC detection and reduction of mortality.

BACKGROUND
Primary vaginal cancer is a rare condition. Some studies have revealed an increased risk of vaginal cancer among patients who have undergone hysterectomy for premalignant and malignant cervical disease. However, there is limited literature available on primary vaginal cancer following hysterectomy for benign conditions.
OBJECTIVES
This review aimed to investigate available evidence on clinical characteristics, treatments, and outcomes of primary vaginal cancer following hysterectomy for benign diseases. Additionally, we provide a case of a patient who developed primary vaginal cancer 10 years after undergoing hysterectomy for abnormal uterine bleeding.
SEARCH STRATEGY
We conducted a comprehensive literature search on PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science using a combination of title and abstract represented by "hysterectomy", and "vaginal cancer"; "vaginal neoplasm"; and "cancer of vagina". No article type restrictions were applied.
MAIN RESULTS
Eight studies with a total of 56 cases were included in this review. The main symptom observed was vaginal bleeding. Squamous cancer was found to be the most common type, followed by adenocarcinoma. The majority of vaginal cancer cases occurred approximately 10 years after undergoing hysterectomy. The most common location of the tumor was in the vaginal apex. The management approaches varied and details were available in 25 cases. Among these, 7 cases were treated with radiotherapy alone, 1 case received concurrent chemoradiation therapy, and the of rest of the cases underwent surgery as the primary treatment, with or without additional adjuvant therapy. Data of follow-up was available for 15 cases, with 2 cases resulting in death and 2 cases experiencing recurrence. The other cases were alive and well at the time of considered follow up.
CONCLUSION
Primary vaginal cancer after hysterectomy for benign conditions is an extremely rare condition. It is essential to have high-level evidence to guide the screening and treatment strategy for this rare condition. A part of women who have undergone hysterectomy for benign disorders can benefit from vaginal cytology evaluation. It is reasonable to postpone the initial screening after surgery and to extend the interval between subsequent screenings. Further retrospective case-control trials are expected to determine which specific subgroups of patients mentioned above might most potentially benefit from screening. The treatment decision for vaginal cancer after hysterectomy is more favorable to radiotherapy-based management rather than surgery. Vaginal endometrioid adenocarcinoma may arise from the malignant transformation of endometriosis. More studies are expected to investigate the correlation between these two diseases.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES
Actinic keratoses (AK) are premalignant skin lesions caused by chronic sun exposure, topically managed by 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), diclofenac 3% gel, and imiquimod. Despite their effectiveness, long treatment duration and severe adverse local skin reactions have limited patient concordance. Calcipotriol has recently been used as a combination agent for existing topical AK treatments. A systematic review was performed to determine the clinical efficacy of 5-FU and calcipotriol for the treatment of AK, Bowen's disease, and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC).
METHODS
A systematic literature search was conducted on Medline, Embase, and Cochrane Library. Among the 84 records screened, 12 were retrieved for full-text review and 8 were included in the final analysis.
RESULTS
Among the 8 studies, there were 214 control patients and 288 patients who received the intervention. The combination 5% 5-FU with calcipotriol resulted in a significant reduction in the number of AKs on the face, scalp, right upper extremity, and left upper extremity for all sites at 8 weeks ( < .0001). No significant difference in SCC incidence was observed at 1 or 2 years, but there was a significant reduction observed at 3 years for SCC on face and scalp. No study assessed the combination for Bowen's disease.
CONCLUSIONS
Combination 5% 5-FU with calcipotriol is an effective treatment for Aks; however, future trials may consider longer treatment and follow-up periods for the treatment and prevention of AK, SCC in situ, and SCC.

OBJECTIVES
Despite phototherapy (in the form of photodynamic therapy (PDT)-mediated oxidative stress) being utilized in the management of oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs), the evidence of certainty remains unclear. Hence, this systematic review and meta-analysis (PROSPERO # CRD42021218748) is aimed to evaluate the clinical efficacy of PDT-induced oxidative stress in OPMDs METHODS: PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus, and Cochrane Library databases were searched without restriction of language or year of publication. In addition, gray literature was searched and a manual search was performed. Two independent reviewers screened all the studies, assessing data extraction, risk of bias and certainty of evidence. A narrative synthesis was carried out. For the meta-analysis, random effects were considered to determine the prevalence of a total and a partial remission (PR) of oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs). The certainty of evidence was explored using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) approach.
RESULTS
Twenty-three studies were included in the qualitative and quantitative syntheses. A total of 880 patients were included (564 males; 218 females) with an age range between 24 and 89-years-old. The results showed the prevalence of the total and partial remissions respectively for the following OPMLs: actinic cheilitis (AC): 69.9% and 2.4%; oral leukoplakia (OL): 44% and 36.9%; oral verrucous hyperplasia (OVH): 98.5%; oral erythroleukoplakia (OEL): 92.1% and 7.9%. The prevalence of no remission of OL was 18.8%.
CONCLUSIONS
PDT demonstrated significant results in clinical remission of OPMDs and most of the eligible studies have shown a total or a partial remission of the included lesions, but at a low or a very low certainty of evidence. Hence, further clinical studies with robust methodology are warranted to offer further validated data. Also, further evidence is required to understand further the mechanism of PDT-induced oxidative stress.

The overall incidence of skin cancer has risen over the past half a decade worldwide and is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Recent advances in molecular testing have allowed us to better characterize microbiome alterations in skin cancer. However, literature specific to skin microbiome and skin cancer remain heterogenous and scattered. A systematic review was performed to identify the existing literature and its usefulness in providing microbiome-based biomarkers. A search of the databases (PubMed, Medline, EMBASE, GoogleScholar) was conducted from June to July 2022 in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines. A total of 1,543 articles were identified, of which 16 were selected for inclusion in the review (11 articles on cancer of the keratinocytes and 5 articles on melanoma). Increased Staphylococcus (S.) aureus prevalence with decline in commensal organisms is seen in squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and actinic keratosis (AK), compared to healthy skin. While the microbiome of melanoma appears to be distinct from healthy skin, limited data is available to draw meaningful conclusions. Our review summarizes the current evidence on the microbiome of keratinocyte skin cancers and melanoma. The study establishes that the microbiome of these cancers is altered from healthy skin and that this dysbiosis involves both pathogenic and commensal organisms.

PURPOSE
The primary aim was to analyze the current practices on the use of operative hysteroscopy for preserving fertility in patients diagnosed with endometrial cancer and premalignancies. Our secondary objectives included investigating medical therapy and analyzing reported pregnancy-related outcomes subsequent to fertility preservation procedures.
METHODS
We performed a semi-systematic literature review on PubMed, employing pertinent terms related to hysteroscopy, fertility preservation, and endometrial cancer and premalignancies. Patients undergoing operative hysteroscopy with or without following medical treatment were included. We adhered to the PRISMA 2020 statement and utilized Covidence software to manage our systematic review. We performed a pooled analysis on various outcomes.
RESULTS
Our final analysis included 15 studies evaluating 458 patients, where 238 (52.0%) were diagnosed with endometrial cancer, and 220 (48.0%) had endometrial premalignancies. With 146 pregnancies in our study, the overall pregnancy rate was 31.9%. Among these, 97 resulted in live births, accounting for 66.4% of the reported pregnancies. In terms of medical treatment, various forms of progestins were reported. Complications or adverse effects related to operative hysteroscopy were not reported in more than half of the studies. Among those studies that did report them, no complications nor adverse effects were documented. After hysteroscopic resection, complete response to medical treatment has been reported in 65.5% of the overall cases.
CONCLUSION
Our review sheds light on the contemporary landscape of operative hysteroscopy for fertility preservation in endometrial cancer and premalignancies. Future studies should include the integration of molecular classification into fertility-preserving management of endometrial malignancies to offer a more personalized and precise strategy.

Oral epithelial dysplasia (OED) is a premalignant condition that carries an appreciable risk of malignant progression. The current grading system for severity, as defined by the World Health Organization, is a valuable clinical tool, but further work is required to improve the accuracy of predicting OED malignant progression. This systematic review aimed to assess progress in prognostic biomarker discovery in OED over the past 16 years. The primary objective was to update the latest evidence on prognostic biomarkers that may predict malignant progression of OED, with strict inclusion criteria of studies with a longitudinal design and long-term follow-up data to enhance the robustness and translational clinical potential of the findings. Of 2829 studies identified through the searching of five databases, 20 met our inclusion criteria. These studies investigated a total of 32 biomarkers, 20 of which demonstrated significant potential to predict malignant progression of OED. Meta-analysis demonstrated the significant prognostic value of four biomarkers: podoplanin, EGFR expression, p16 methylation, and DNA aneuploidy. Our review has identified 20 reported biomarkers with prognostic potential to predict malignant progression in OED, but their translation into clinical practice remains elusive. Further research is required, and this should focus on validating the promising biomarkers identified in large cohort studies, with adherence to standardised reporting guidelines.

The objective was to evaluate the efficacy of curcumin in improving mouth opening (MO), burning sensation (BS), and tongue protrusion (TP) symptoms in patients with oral submucous fibrosis (OSF). An electronic search up to November 2022 was conducted in the PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, EBSCO, ProQuest, and Cochrane Library databases to identify studies using curcumin in the treatment of OSF with comparison to control groups (drugs previously proven to be effective for OSF treatment) or placebo. Only randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were considered. RevMan 5.3 software was used for the meta-analysis. Thirteen RCTs met the eligibility criteria and were included in the analysis. The results showed no significant improvement in MO (in millimetres) for curcumin when compared to control at 1 month (P = 0.91), 2 months (P = 0.54), 3 months (P = 0.56), or 6 months (P = 0.17) of treatment. There was no significant difference in BS (assessed using a visual analogue scale) between curcumin and control after 1 month (P = 0.05), 2 months (P = 0.64), 3 months (P = 0.13), or 6 months (P = 0.56) of treatment. Compared with the control groups, treatment with curcumin for 1 month (P = 0.32), 2 months (P = 0.07), and 3 months (P = 0.14) did not significantly improve the TP (in millimetres) of patients. The administration of curcumin, whether topically applied or taken orally, did not confer statistically significant improvements in MO, BS, or TP in comparison to the control treatments, among patients with OSF. The results of this meta-analysis showed that compared to placebo, the application of curcumin for 6 months markedly alleviated BS (P < 0.001). Curcumin treatment in OSF reaches a clinically effective range, but more bioavailability-centred outcomes should be reported. Robust multicentre RCTs are warranted to elucidate the efficacy of curcumin in improving specific outcomes like MO, BS, and TP in patients with this condition. Defining the therapeutic role of this natural compound may provide an effective botanical alternative for managing OSF.
