OBJECTIVES
We re-envision dentistry's social contract and elaborate on the idea that it is not neutral and free from such things as racism and white supremacy and can act as a tool of oppression.
METHODS
We critique social contract theory through examination of classical and contemporary contract theorists. More specifically, our analysis draws from the work of Charles W. Mills, a philosopher of race and liberalism, as well as the theoretical and praxis framework of intersectionality.
RESULTS
Social contract theory supports hierarchies and inequities that may be used to sustain unfair and unjust differences in oral health between social groups. When dentistry's social contract becomes a tool of oppression, its practice does not promote health equity but reinforces damaging social norms.
CONCLUSION
Dentistry must embrace an anti-oppression framing of equity and elevate the principle of justice to one of liberation and not just fairness. In doing so, the profession can better understand itself, act more equitably and empower practitioners to advocate for justice in health and healthcare in its fullest sense. Anti-oppressive justice supports health not as merely an obligation but as a human duty.

With the advent of adhesive dentistry, tooth preparation can be minimally invasive. An optimal adhesion to the dental tissues is a requirement. Rubberdam isolation, using a gold standard adhesive and bonding to freshly prepared dentin are all factors that improve the adhesion to tooth tissue. For non-retentive restorations, indirect composite and glass-ceramic materials are suitable. To date, several studies have shown a high survival rate of indirect adhesive restorations. The adage "if you can isolate the tooth, you can preserve it" may guide the choice of starting an adhesive procedure.

This article examines the past, present and future of primary care dentistry. It provides a historical background of primary care dentistry and describes stages of its evolution. It further reviews the purpose and mission of contemporary primary care dentistry and outlines a vision for the development of primary care dentistry in the future. The type and extent of innovations and technological advances that have impacted - and improved - primary care dentistry revolutionising clinical activities, ranging from early computerised tomography to modern digital systems and workflows are summarised. A discussion of current scientific evidence base pertinent to primary care dentistry highlighting the need for 'effectiveness' rather than 'efficacy' studies is included in order to provide research data pertinent to the primary care dentistry setting where most dental patients receive most of their care most of the time.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
Screwmentable prostheses were developed to combine the benefits of screw retention and cement retention. However, data are limited on the clinical performance of this type of prosthesis.
PURPOSE
The purpose of this systematic review was to collect scientific evidence on screwmentable prostheses and evaluate their long-term clinical behavior.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
An electronic search was conducted by 2 independent reviewers for articles published in scientific dental journals in English from 2004 to April 2020. The search strategy followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Inclusion criteria were scientific studies concerning the screwmentable type of prosthesis.
RESULTS
The search provided 494 records. Of these, 24 studies fulfilled the inclusion criteria and were included in the review. The included articles presented significant heterogeneity concerning the manufacturing process and the materials used. One randomized clinical trial, 2 prospective clinical studies, 14 in vitro studies, 3 protocol descriptions, 1 case series, and 3 case reports were included.
CONCLUSIONS
Based on the systematic search of the literature, it is concluded that the screwmentable prosthesis combines advantages of both cement-retained and screw-retained restorations, including passive fit, retrievability, excess cement control, tissue-friendly emergence profile, and improved esthetics. Nevertheless, data from well-designed clinical trials are limited, and further research is required to provide evidence on their long-term clinical behavior.

In the last 20 years, immediate implant placement has been proposed as a predictable protocol to replace failing teeth. The research conducted in preclinical and clinical studies have focused on soft and hard tissue changes following tooth extraction and immediate implant placement. Different approaches for hard and soft tissue grafting together with provisional restorations have been proposed to compensate tissue alterations. This review analyzed some relevant clinical and preclinical literature focusing on the impact of bone grafting procedures on immediate implant placement in terms of hard and soft tissue changes, aesthetic results, and patient-related outcomes.

This chapter will emphasise the need to: 1) Provide a provisional restoration following tooth preparation to protect the pulp; secure positional stability, function and aesthetics; and maintain gingival health; 2) Consider using long-term provisional restorations to assess aesthetic, occlusal and periodontal changes before embarking on definitive restorations; 3) Distinguish between preparations for conventional and adhesive restorations when providing provisional restorations; 4) Determine in advance the type of provisional restorations and materials to be used, ideally, while treatment planning; 5) Be aware of materials for making provisional restorations and how to control potential hazards; and 6) Make provisional restorations to a high standard to ensure a predictable restorative outcome.

This paper presents the major achievements in the field of biomaterials in restorative dentistry and tissue regeneration reported over the past 3 years. The review aims to summarize the knowledge on important biomaterials and the emerging modification strategies to improve their biointegration, biological activity, mechanical properties, and resistance to the harsh oral environment. We also discuss the main opportunities and challenges associated with the use of biomaterials in dentistry.Much contemporary research focuses on the interactions between biomaterials and the surrounding tissues in the oral environment regarding adhesion, associated stresses and strains, and the durability of dental restoration materials. Dental biomaterials should support cell adhesion and activity, leading to dental tissue regeneration, and are also expected to effectively prevent bacterial infections and inhibit material corrosion in saliva. The degradation, dissolution or corrosion of restorative materials due to exposure to body fluids can alter the structure and mechanical properties of the material, causing various adverse effects.Another aspect addressed in recent literature is the improvement of the mechanical properties and esthetics of restorative materials. The surfaces of biomaterials are usually modified with polymers or nanomaterials to reduce friction while maintaining biocompatibility.Although all modern biomaterials are promising, there is an urgent need for more in vivo and clinical studies to investigate their biological advantages and disadvantages in detail. The computational techniques used to assess the properties of modern dental materials, particularly the mechanical ones, could assist in the development of the materials. Such an approach can help bring new biomaterials to the market by reducing complicated, tedious and expensive experimentation.
