This study aims to find base materials for dry electrode fabrication with high accuracy and without reducing electrode performance for long-term bioelectric potential monitoring after electroless silver plating. Most applications of dry electrodes that have been developed in the past few decades are restricted by low accuracy compared to commercial Ag/AgCl gel electrodes, as in our previous study of PVDF-based dry electrodes. In a recent study, however, nanoweb-based chlorinated polyisoprene (CPI) and poly(styrene--butadiene--styrene) (SBS) rubber were selected as promising candidates due to their excellent elastic properties, as well as their nanofibril nature, which may improve electrode durability and skin contact. The electroless silver plating technique was employed to coat the nanofiber web with silver, and silver nanoweb(AgNW)-based dry electrodes were fabricated. The key electrode properties (contact impedance, step response, and noise characteristics) for AgNW dry electrodes were investigated thoroughly using agar phantoms. The dry electrodes were subsequently tested on human subjects to establish their realistic performance in terms of ECG, EMG monitoring, and electrical impedance tomography (EIT) measurements. The experimental results demonstrated that the AgNW dry electrodes, particularly the SBS-AgNW dry electrodes, performed similarly to commercial Ag/AgCl gel electrodes and were outperformed in terms of long-term stability.

. To explore noise characteristics and the effect physiological activity has on the link between impedance and noise.. Dry-printed electrodes are emerging as a new and exciting technology for skin electro-physiology. Such electrode arrays offer many advantages including user convenience, quick placement, and high resolution. Here we analyze extensive electro-physiological data recorded from the arm and the face to study and quantify the noise of dry electrodes, and to characterize the link between noise and impedance. In particular, we studied the effect of the physiological state of the subject (e.g. rapid eye movement sleep) on noise.. We show that baseline noise values extracted from dry electrodes in the arm are in agreement with the Nyquist equation. In the face, on the other hand, the measured noise values were higher than the values predicted by the Nyquist equation. In addition, we studied how different electrode properties affect performances, including electrode size, shape, and material properties.. Altogether, the results presented here provide a basis for understanding dry electrode performances and substantiate their great potential in electro-physiological investigations.

BACKGROUND
In Japan, neonates have typically been bathed in a bathtub immediately after birth because bathing is a custom for cleansing impurities. However, dry technique has been introduced into many institutions since 2000. There is little scientific evidence on the benefit or harmfulness of either method to neonatal skin, and consequently, opinion remains split on which method is superior.
OBJECTIVE
The purpose of the present study was to determine whether bathing or the dry technique of cleaning is better in maintaining skin health in the early neonatal period.
METHODS
Transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and skin pH, considered an index of skin barrier function, were measured in each group. Tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha and interleukin (IL)-6, which are inflammatory cytokines released by keratinocytes, were measured by skin blotting.
RESULTS
TEWL and skin pH of neonates were lower with the dry technique than with bathing. The expression level of IL-6 and TNF-α in chest skin of neonates was higher with bathing than with the dry technique.
CONCLUSION
These results suggest that the dry technique may maintain skin health better than bathing in the early neonatal period.

BACKGROUND
The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of osimertinib for the treatment of leptomeningeal metastases (LM) from epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-mutant non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
METHODS
We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to aggregate the clinical outcomes of patients with LM from EGFR-mutant NSCLC treated with osimertinib. A comprehensive literature search for published and unpublished studies was implemented in April 2021 of PubMed, EMBASE, the Cochrane Library, and several international conference databases, in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines. Meta-analysis of proportions was conducted to calculate the pooled rate of overall response rate (ORR), disease control rate (DCR), one-year overall survival (OS), and adverse events (AEs).
RESULTS
A total of eleven studies (five prospective and six retrospective) including 353 patients were included. The majority of patients (346/353, 98.0%) received osimertinib as ≥ 2nd-line treatment for LM, either at a dosage of 80 mg (161/353, 45.6%) or 160 mg (191/353, 54.1%). The pooled rates of ORR and DCR were 42% (95% CI 24% to 59%) and 93% (95% CI 88% to 97%), respectively. The pooled one-year OS rate was 59% (95% CI 53% to 65%) in 233 patients from five studies. The highest incidence of AEs of all grades was rash (53%), followed by diarrhea (45%), paronychia (35%), decreased appetite (35%), and dry skin (27%), based on data from four studies.
CONCLUSIONS
Our study highlighted and confirmed the meaningful efficacy and a manageable safety profile of osimertinib for the treatment of LM from EGFR-mutant advanced NSCLC.

Sphingolipids are ubiquitous lipids, present in the membranes of all cell types, the stratum corneum and the circulating lipoproteins. Autosomal recessive as well as dominant diseases due to disturbed sphingolipid biosynthesis have been identified, including defects in the synthesis of ceramides, sphingomyelins and glycosphingolipids. In many instances, these gene variants result in the loss of catalytic function of the mutated enzymes. Additional gene defects implicate the subcellular localization of the sphingolipid-synthesizing enzyme, the regulation of its activity, or even the function of a sphingolipid-transporter protein. The resulting metabolic alterations lead to two major, non-exclusive types of clinical manifestations: a neurological disease, more or less rapidly progressive, associated or not with intellectual disability, and an ichthyotic-type skin disorder. These phenotypes highlight the critical importance of sphingolipids in brain and skin development and homeostasis. The present article reviews the clinical symptoms, genetic and biochemical alterations, pathophysiological mechanisms and therapeutic options of this relatively novel group of metabolic diseases.

Despite their potential for adverse health effects, skin-lightening products remain popular among South Asian Americans.
OBJECTIVE
This study investigates attitudes toward skin tone and the prevalence and adverse effects of skin-lightening product use among South Asian Americans.
METHODS
We conducted a cross-sectional study, recruiting and surveying 175 women or nonbinary individuals meeting the following inclusion criteria: (1) lived in the United States, (2) identified as South Asian, and (3) were raised by parents born in South Asian countries.
RESULTS
Of the 175 participants, 55 (31%) respondents used a skin-lightening product before. Parental pressure to use skin-lightening products and decreased time spent in the United States were significantly associated with skin-lightening product use (odds ratio [OR] 8.51, 95% CI 3.33-21.78, P<.001, and OR 0.70, 95% CI 0.52-0.96, P=.03, respectively). Although only 6 of the 55 (11%) users reported being aware of the potential side effects of skin-lightening products, 33 (60%) reported adverse effects, with acne, skin sensitivity, and dry skin being the most common. Users and nonusers equally endorsed statements associating lighter skin with increased attractiveness (P=.31), marriageability (P=.94), social status (P=.98), self-esteem (P=.73), and respect received from others (P=.74).
CONCLUSIONS
The use of skin-lightening products among South Asian Americans is common and linked to social and psychological factors. Parental pressure and cultural beauty standards may play a significant role in perpetuating this practice. This study highlights the need for educational campaigns about the potential health risks associated with skin-lightening and increased efforts to challenge harmful beauty standards.

Electroencephalography has garnered interest for applications in mobile healthcare, human-machine interfaces, and Internet of Things. Conventional electroencephalography relies on wet and dry electrodes. Despite favorable interface impedance of wet electrodes and skin, the application of a large amount of gel at their interface with skin limits the electroencephalography spatial resolution, increases the risk of shorting between electrodes, and makes them unsuited for long-term mobile recording. In contrast, dry electrodes are better suited for long-term recordings but susceptible to motion artifacts. In addition, both wet and dry electrodes are non-adhesive to the hairy scalp and mechanical support, or chemical adhesives are used to hold them in place. Herein, a conical microstructure array (CMSA) based sensor made of carbon nanotube-polydimethylsiloxane composite is reported. The CMSA sensor is fabricated using the innovative, cost-effective, and scalable method of viscosity-controlled dip-pull process. The sensor adheres to the hairy scalp by generating negative pressure in its conical microstructures when it is pressed against scalp. Aided by the application of a trace amount of gel, CMSA sensor establishes good electrical contact with the skin, enabling its applications in mobile electroencephalography over extended periods. Notably, the signal quality of CMSA sensors is comparable to that of medical-grade wet gel electrodes.

BACKGROUND
Very long-chain fatty acids (VLCFAs) composed of more than 20 carbon atoms are essential in the biosynthesis of cell membranes in the brain, skin, and retina. VLCFAs are elongated beyond 28 carbon atoms by ELOVL4 enzyme. Variants in ELOVL4 are associated with three Mendelian disorders: autosomal dominant (AD) Stargardt-like macular dystrophy type 3, AD spinocerebellar ataxia, and autosomal recessive disorder congenital ichthyosis, spastic quadriplegia and impaired intellectual development (ISQMR). Only seven subjects from five unrelated families with ISQMR have been described, all of which have biallelic single-nucleotide variants.
METHODS
We performed clinical exome sequencing on probands from four unrelated families with neuro-ichthyosis.
RESULTS
We identified three novel homozygous ELOVL4 variants. Two of the families originated from the same Saudi tribe and had the exact homozygous exonic deletion in ELOVL4, while the third and fourth probands had two different novel homozygous missense variants. Seven out of the eight affected subjects had profound developmental delay, epilepsy, axial hypotonia, peripheral hypertonia, and ichthyosis. Delayed myelination and corpus callosum hypoplasia were seen in two of five subjects with brain magnetic rosonance imaging and cerebral atrophy in three.
CONCLUSION
Our study expands the allelic spectrum of ELOVL4-related ISQMR. The detection of the same exonic deletion in two unrelated Saudi family from same tribe suggests a tribal founder mutation.

The predominant clinical presentation is palpable purpura. Multiple medications can cause leukocytoclastic vasculitis, as well as autoimmune diseases, infections, and malignancy. The disease process may be limited to only the skin or a manifestation of a systemic vasculitis or process. Treatment is centered on symptom management. Our patient is a 60-year-old female who presented with bilateral dry and wet tender ulcerations. She was previously treated with paclizumab.

OBJECTIVE
The study describes the development and testing of a dry surface stimulation flexible electrode (herein referred to as Flexatrode), a low-cost, flexible, and scalable elastomeric nanocomposite using carbon black (CB) and polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS).
METHODS
Flexatrodes composed of CB and PDMS were developed and tested for mechanical and functional stability up to 7 days. Uniform CB distribution was achieved by optimizing the dispersion process using toluene and methyl-terminated PDMS. Electromechanical testing in the through thickness directions over a long-term duration demonstrated stability of Flexatrode. Thermal stability of Flexatrode for up to a week was tested and validated, thus mitigating concerns of heat generation and deleterious skin reactions such as vasodilation or erythema.
RESULTS
25 wt.% CB was determined to be the optimal concentration. Electrical and thermal stability were demonstrated in the through thickness direction.
CONCLUSION
Flexatrode provides stable electrical properties combined with high flexibility and elasticity. Electrotherapy treated chronic wounds were 81.9% smaller than baseline at day 10. Wounds that received an inactive device (device without any electrical stimulation) were 58.1% smaller than baseline and wounds that received standard of care treatment were 62.2% smaller than baseline.
SIGNIFICANCE
The increasing need for wearable bioelectronics requiring long-term monitoring/treatment has highlighted the limitations of sustained use of gel-based electrodes. These can include skin irritation, bacterial overgrowth at the electrode site, gel dehydration over time, and signal degradation due to eccrine sweat formation. Flexatrode provides stable performance in a nanocomposite with scalable fabrication, thus providing a promising platform technology for wearable bioelectronics.
