Emotion influences many cognitive processes and plays an important role in our daily life. Previous studies focused on the effects of arousal on subsequent cognitive processing, but the effect of valence on subsequent semantic processing is still not clear. The present study examined the effect of auditory valence on subsequent visual semantic processing when controlling for arousal. We used instrumental music clips varying in valence while matching in arousal to induce valence states and asked participants to make natural or man-made judgements on subsequent neutral objects. We found that positive and negative valences similarly impaired subsequent semantic processing compared with neutral valence. The linear ballistic accumulator model analyses showed that the valence effects can be attributed to drift rate differences, suggesting that the effects are likely related to attentional selection. Our findings are consistent with a motivated attention model, indicating comparable attentional capture by both positive and negative valences in modulating subsequent cognitive processes.

OBJECTIVES
This study aimed to explore the behavioral and social impairments among people living with dementia (PLWD) in rural southwestern Uganda. It also explored the burden of caregivers for people living with dementia.
METHODS
This was a qualitative study among people living with dementia and their caregivers. We consecutively enrolled 30 people living with dementia with their caregivers from their homes. We conducted in-depth interviews using a semi-structured interview guide. We did a thematic content analysis.
RESULTS
The themes under-reported behavioral impairment were; difficulty in personal care, physical inactivity, and impaired judgment. Under the social and cognitive impairment theme, there was the failure to be in social gatherings like church, community groups, and markets. Under the caregivers' role, their burden included managing behavioral, social, and cognitive impairments of PLWD. Although caregivers were committed to caring for PLWDs, this required sacrificing time at the expense of income-generating activities.
CONCLUSIONS
Dementia hinders the behavioral and social aspects of the affected people. Caregivers are highly burdened to care for PLWD. Strategies to minimize caregivers' burden while caring for people living with dementia are recommended.

To reach a target, primary saccades (S1s) are often followed by (corrective) consecutive saccades (S2, and potentially S3, S4, S5), which are based on retinal and extraretinal feedback. Processing these extraretinal signals was found to be significantly impaired by lesions to the posterior parietal cortex (PPC). Recent studies, however, added a more nuanced view to the role of the PPC, where patients with PPC lesions still used extraretinal signals for S2s and perceptual judgements (Fabius et al., 2020; Rath-Wilson & Guitton, 2015). Hence, it seems that a PPC lesion is not disrupting extraretinal processing per se. Yet, a lesion might still result in less reliable processing of extraretinal signals. Here, we investigated whether this lower reliability manifests as decreased or delayed S2 initiation. Patients with PPC lesions (n = 7) and controls (n = 26) performed a prosaccade task where the target either remained visible or was removed after S1 onset. When S1 is removed, accurate S2s (corrections of S1 error) rely solely on extraretinal signals. We analysed S2 quantity and timing using linear mixed-effects modelling and additive hazards analyses. Patients demonstrated slower S1 execution and lower S1 amplitudes than controls, but their S2s still compensated the S1 undershoot, also when they only relied on extraretinal information. Surprisingly, patients showed an increased amount of S2s. This deviation from control behaviour can be seen as suboptimal, but given the decreased accuracy of the primary saccade, it could be optimal for patients to employ more (corrective) consecutive saccades to overcome this inaccuracy.

Gait analysis serves as a critical diagnostic tool for identifying neurologic and musculoskeletal damage. Traditional manual analysis of motion data, however, is labor-intensive and heavily reliant on the expertise and judgment of the therapist. This study introduces a binary classification method for the quantitative assessment of gait impairments, specifically focusing on Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), a prevalent and fatal neuromuscular genetic disorder. The research compares spatiotemporal and sagittal kinematic gait features derived from 2D and 3D human pose estimation trajectories against concurrently recorded 3D motion capture (MoCap) data from healthy children. The proposed model leverages a novel benchmark dataset, collected from YouTube and publicly available datasets of their typically developed peers, to extract time-distance variables (e.g. speed, step length, stride time, and cadence) and sagittal joint angles of the lower extremity (e.g. hip, knee, and knee flexion angles). Machine learning and deep learning techniques are employed to discern patterns that can identify children exhibiting DMD gait disturbances. While the current model is capable of distinguishing between healthy subjects and those with DMD, it does not specifically differentiate between DMD patients and patients with other gait impairments. Experimental results validate the efficacy of our cost-effective method, which relies on recorded RGB video, in detecting gait abnormalities, achieving a prediction accuracy of 96.2% for Support Vector Machine (SVM) and 97% for the deep network.

BACKGROUND
The detection and description of language impairments in neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's Disease (AD) play an important role in research, clinical diagnosis and intervention. Various methodological protocols have been implemented for the assessment of morphosyntactic abilities in AD; narrative discourse elicitation tasks and structured experimental tasks for production, offline and online structured experimental tasks for comprehension. Very few studies implement and compare different methodological protocols; thus, little is known about the advantages and disadvantages of each methodology.
AIMS
To discuss and compare the main behavioral methodological approaches and tasks that have been used in psycholinguistic research to assess different aspects of morphosyntactic production and comprehension in individuals with AD at the word and sentence levels.
METHODS
A narrative review was conducted through searches in the scientific databases Google Scholar, Scopus, Science Direct, MITCogNet, PubMed. Only studies written in English, that reported quantitative data and were published in peer-reviewed journals were considered with respect to their methodological protocol. Moreover, we considered studies that reported research on all stages of the disease and we included only studies that also reported results of a healthy control group. Studies that implemented standardized assessment tools were not considered in this review.
OUTCOMES & RESULTS
The main narrative discourse elicitation tasks implemented for the assessment of morphosyntactic production include interviews, picture-description and story narration, whereas the main structured experimental tasks include sentence completion, constrained sentence production, sentence repetition and naming. Morphosyntactic comprehension in AD has been assessed with the use of structured experimental tasks, both offline (sentence-picture matching, grammaticality judgment) and online (cross-modal naming,speeded sentence acceptability judgment, auditory moving window, word detection, reading). For each task we considered studies that reported results from different morphosyntactic structures and phenomena in as many different languages as possible.
CONCLUSIONS & IMPLICATIONS
Our review revealed strengths and weaknesses of these methods but also directions for future research. Narrative discourse elicitation tasks as well as structured experimental tasks have been used in a variety of languages, and have uncovered preserved morphosyntactic production but also deficits in people with AD. A combination of narrative discourse elicitation and structured production tasks for the assessment of the same morphosyntactic structure has been rarely used. Regarding comprehension, offline tasks have been implemented in various languages, whereas online tasks have been mainly used in English. Offline and online experimental paradigms have often produced contradictory results even within the same study. The discrepancy between the two paradigms has been attributed to the different working memory demands they impose to the comprehender or to the different parsing processes they tap. Strengths and shortcomings of each methodology are summarized in the paper, and comparisons between different tasks are attempted when this is possible. Thus, the paper may serve as a methodological guide for the study of morphosyntax in AD and possibly in other neurodegenerative diseases.

What this paper adds to existing knowledge The paper presents an overview of methodologies that have been used to assess morphosyntactic production and comprehension of people with AD at the word and sentence levels. The paper summarizes the strengths and shortcomings of each methodology, providing both the researcher and the clinician with some directions in their endeavour of investigating language in AD. Also, the paper highlights the need for further research that will implement carefully scrutinized tasks from various experimental paradigms and will explore distinct aspects of the AD patients' morphosyntactic abilities in typologically different languages. What are the potential or actual clinical implications of this work? The paper may serve as a reference point for (psycho-)linguists who wish to study morphosyntactic abilities in AD, and for speech and language therapists who might need to apply morphosyntactic protocols to their patients in order to assess them or design appropriate therapeutic interventions for production and comprehension deficits.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE
Episodic memory is a system that receives and stores information about temporally dated episodes and their interrelations. Our study aimed to investigate the relevance of episodic memory to time perception, with a specific focus on simultaneity/order judgment.
METHODS
Experiment 1 employed the simultaneity judgment task to discern differences in time perception between patients with mild cognitive impairment or dementia, and age-matched normals. A mathematical analysis capable of estimating subjects' time processing was utilized to identify the sensory and decisional components of temporal order and simultaneity judgment. Experiment 2 examined how differences in temporal perception relate to performance in temporal order memory, in which time delays play a critical role.
RESULTS
The temporal decision windows for both temporal order and simultaneity judgments exhibited marginal differences between patients with episodic memory impairment, and their healthy counterparts (p = 0.15, t(22) = 1.34). These temporal decision windows may be linked to the temporal separation of events in episodic memory (Pearson's ρ = -0.53, p = 0.05).
CONCLUSIONS
Based on our findings, the frequency of visual events accumulated and encoded in the working memory system in the patients' and normal group appears to be approximately (5.7 and 11.2) Hz, respectively. According to the internal clock model, a lower frequency of event pulses tends to result in underestimation of event duration, which phenomenon might be linked to the observed time distortions in patients with dementia.

INTRODUCTION
Awareness influences the evolution of neurodegenerative dementias. We gathered participants' and caregivers assessments of dependence in daily activities and we studied how each score would be related to next year participant autonomy, independently of other explicative variables.
METHOD
We retrospectively analyzed data from mildly demented participants with a clinical diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD, = 186) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD, = 29) and their relatives. A research tool was used to assess participant dependence in 98 daily activities and associated caregiver burden. A discrepancy score between the patient's and relative's judgment was calculated to evaluate awareness of dependence in activities at baseline. This dependence scores, as well as sex, age, education, and 1 year difference in Mini-Mental State Examination were taken as possible explicative variables for dependence in activities adapted by therapists during a 1-year cognitive rehabilitation program.
RESULTS
Patients with FTD showed less awareness for daily dependence (discrepancy 20.9% vs. 11.8% in AD). Both groups benefited from cognitive rehabilitation (25% decrease in dependence) and subjective burden of relatives was decreased in both groups. In the AD group, there was a significant positive relationship between both caregiver ( < 0.001) and participant's ( < 0.02) evaluation of dependence in daily activities at inclusion and dependence of participants in adapted activities after 1 year.
DISCUSSION
Awareness of impairment in daily activities is a clinical symptom that is more important at inclusion in FTD than in AD. However, in participants with AD who, as a group, significantly benefit from a cognitive rehabilitation program, not only caregiver's but also participant's assessment of dependence at baseline is correlated to subsequent, next year greater dependence in daily activities adapted by the therapists. Although discrepant, both caregiver and participant evaluations appear to be important variables to understand the evolution and the benefit of care in participants at early stages of dementia.

Determination of tissue tracer transit of Technetium-99m-mercaptoacetyltriglycine diuretic renography in infants with suspected ureteropelvic junction obstruction - A multicenter prospective observational study.
INTRODUCTION
There is an ongoing controversy regarding management of ureteropelvic junction obstruction in infants, with a shift towards a non-operative approach. However, precise predictors of outcome are lacking. Recent studies postulated a high prognostic value of Technetium-99m-mercaptoacetyltriglycine tissue tracer transit with regard to the development of an impaired differential renal function and its potential improvement following pyeloplasty.
OBJECTIVE
To evaluate the prognostic value of Technetium-99m-mercaptoacetyltriglycine tissue tracer transit for the occurrence of changes in differential renal function in infants with suspected unilateral ureteropelvic junction obstruction in a prospective observational multicenter study.
STUDY DESIGN
Infants below 3 months of age with a unilateral isolated hydronephrosis ≥ grade 3 received ultrasound and Technetium-99m-mercaptoacetyltriglycine diuretic renography at two different time points (timepoint 1 and timepoint 2). Data were analyzed at local centers and at the study center and were collected in an internet-based database system. Tissue tracer transit was determined for each diuretic renography, inter-observer variation for tissue tracer transit and standard parameters for judgement of differential renal function development were assessed.
RESULTS
Thirty-seven patients were analyzed. Median age was 11 weeks (7-15) at timepoint 1 and 26 weeks (19-33) at timepoint 2. A delayed tissue tracer transit at timepoint 1 was not associated with deterioration of differential renal function at timepoint 2 in both, locally (10/37 cases) and centrally (4/37) analyzed cases. However, sensitivity and specificity were poor. The intraclass correlation coefficient comparing local and central findings of tissue tracer transit and renal drainage demonstrated poor or fair agreement. Analysis of standard parameters for differential renal function development revealed a prognostic value only for the dichotomized anteroposterior renal pelvic diameter (APD, p = 0.03, 95%-CI 1.2-22.2).
DISCUSSION
Regarding the primary endpoint of our study, we could not confirm the hypothesis that delayed tissue tracer transit reliably predicts a subsequent decline in differential renal function in the cohort of patients studied. Whether the low age of the patients, technical problems in the correct assessment of tissue tracer transit by the investigator in early infancy, the study design, or the parameter itself played a role is debated.
CONCLUSION
In the presented setting tissue tracer transit was not useful as a predictive parameter for deterioration of differential renal function in infants with suspected unilateral ureteropelvic junction obstruction. Sensitivity and specificity of tissue tracer transit were not sufficient for risk stratification. Improved utility of tissue tracer transit as a marker might be achieved using a different study setting.

BACKGROUND
Ataxia telangiectasia (AT) is a genetic multisystemic disorder affecting the nervous system. Data on neurocognitive functioning in AT are limited and focused on patients at various stages of disease. Because of the genetic nature of the disorder, parents of patients may also display subtle neurological problems. This study aimed to evaluate neurocognitive functioning in patients with AT and their unaffected parents.
METHODS
The study included 26 patients with AT and 41 parents among which 13 patients and 18 parents were evaluated with neurocognitive tests. Clinical and radiological data were reviewed retrospectively. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics.
RESULTS
The median ages of patients and parents were 12.5 years (interquartile range [IQR] = 9.5) and 38.0 years (IQR = 12.0), respectively. Median intelligence quotients were 62.0 (IQR = 21.3) and 82.5 (IQR = 16.8), respectively, for patients and parents. Rates of intellectual disability for patients and parents were 100.0% and 83.3%, respectively. Areas of impairment in patients in decreasing order of frequency were motor skills, visual perception/memory, visual-manual coordination, spontaneous/focused and sustained attention (100.0% for each), social judgment, as well as vocabulary and arithmetic skills (75.0% for each). Areas of impairment in unaffected parents in decreasing order of frequency were visual-manual coordination (77.8%), working memory (76.5%), and visual perception and motor skills (66.7% for each).
CONCLUSION
Intellectual disabilities, visual-spatial disabilities, and reduced visual-motor coordination seem to be similar in patients with AT and their parents. These results should be replicated with larger samples from multiple centers and may form putative cognitive endophenotypes for the disorder.

Immunization with various species lacking induces robust immunity against a homologous and heterologous virulent challenge, making mutants a putative candidate for a leishmaniasis vaccine. We developed a -deficient () cell line and confirmed its impaired survival following phagocytosis by macrophages. Upon experimental inoculation into BALB/c mice, failed to induce lesions and parasites were rapidly eliminated. The immune response following inoculation with was characterized by a mixed IFN-γ, IL-4, and IL-10 response and did not confer protection against infection, distinct from , , and centrin-deficient mutants. A prime-boost strategy also did not lead to a protective immune response against homologous challenge. On the contrary, immunization with -deficient () cross-protected against challenge, illustrating the ability of to induce the Th1-dominant protective immunity needed for leishmaniasis control. In conclusion, while deficiency in causes attenuation of virulence, and disrupts the ability to cause disease, it fails to stimulate a protective immune response.
