An 11-year-old boy presented generalized eruptive syringomas (ESs) associated with multiple milia-like whitish palmar papules corresponding to dermal calcium deposits. A relationship between calcium deposits distribution to an underlying eccrine duct was noted on pathology. The observation of dermal calcium deposits and its association with generalized ESs may support a possible sweat duct origin of this uncommon and peculiar form of superficial calcinosis cutis.

OBJECTIVES
A working group conducted a survey on the use of the principle of buffer space (BS), which in case of emergencies, could benefit healthcare settings. The aim of the preliminary investigation is to define new research lines in hospitals' functional design.
BACKGROUND
The global experience of the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted challenges faced by hospitals when responding promptly to emergencies, including spatial reorganization and suspension of ordinary medical activities for ensuring adequate management of the emergency surge of patients.
METHODS
The group designed questionnaires to be administered to healthcare staff and healthcare designers aimed at understanding varied conceptions and features of BSs. Content across the two surveys overlapped significantly, allowing for direct comparisons of responses, while also including tailored questions in relation to the respective experience and skills of the two groups of respondents.
RESULTS
102 healthcare professionals and 56 designers took part to the survey. Analysis of the responses permitted for initial recommendations regarding BS typology including (a) proximity to the emergency department (ED), intensive care units (ICUs), and inpatient wards (IWs); (b) location within hospitals but separate from other medical areas; (c) need for independent access; (d) organizational and spatial features similar to ED, ICUs, and IWs; (e) existing as a fully flexible operational space; and (f) BS bed capacity to be approximately 12% of ED beds.
CONCLUSIONS
Although the analysis is related to the Italian context, the expansion of this preliminary research to alternate healthcare facilities and geographic areas is necessary for reaching a wide consensus by different professionals on this field. It serves as a starting point for future investigations regarding the implementation of BS in hospital settings.

Acute respiratory distress syndrome, acute kidney injury, and mortality after trauma are associated with increased circulation of syndecan-1, soluble thrombomodulin, and receptor for advanced glycation end products.
BACKGROUND
Disruption of the vascular endothelium and endothelial glycocalyx (EG) has been described after severe trauma. Plasma has been suggested to restore microvascular integrity by preservation and repair of the EG. We sought to evaluate whether plasma administered in a 1:1:1 ratio was associated with less endothelial marker circulation than a 1:1:2 ratio.
METHODS
This is a secondary analysis of the PROPPR trial, which investigated post-traumatic resuscitation with platelets, plasma, and red blood cells in a 1:1:1 ratio compared with a 1:1:2 ratio. Syndecan-1, soluble thrombomodulin (sTM), and receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE) were quantified for each treatment group on admission and at 2 hours, 4 hours, 6 hours, 12 hours, 24 hours, 48 hours, and 72 hours. Patients were excluded if they did not survive longer than 3 hours or had data from fewer than two time points.
RESULTS
Three hundred eight patients in the 1:1:1 group and 291 in the 1:1:2 group were analyzed. There were no statistically significant differences in syndecan-1, sTM, or RAGE between treatment groups at any time point ( p > 0.05). Patients who developed acute respiratory distress syndrome, acute kidney injury, and death had significantly elevated biomarker expression at most time points when compared with patients who did not develop these sequelae ( p < 0.05).
CONCLUSION
Administration of FFP in a 1:1:1 ratio does not consistently affect circulation of endothelial biomarkers following significant trauma when compared with a 1:1:2 ratio. The development of post-traumatic ARDS, AKI, and death was associated with increased endothelial biomarker circulation.

Nanoformulations (NFs) can be used as a novel drug delivery system to treat all cancer types. One of the major drawbacks of conventional anticancer drugs is that they have poor specificity and higher toxicity towards normal cells. 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) is a well-studied anticancer drug that has a significant role in various cancers, specifically colorectal cancer therapy. This study was performed to determine the functional groups, particle size, surface charge, heterogeneity, and stability of the NF. The NFs of 5-FU were prepared through the ultrasonication technique by increasing the surfactant (Tween-80) concentrations. Among all three NFs, nanoformulated 5-FU (n5-FU) showed the most effective particle size (10.72 nm) with a zeta potential of (-4.57 mV). The cytotoxicity and apoptosis profiles confirmed that n5-FU enhanced the anticancer effect of the pure drug in HCT-116 cells, as evident from MTT assay, fluorescence microscopy, and FACS analysis. In HCT-116 cells, the IC values of pure and n5-FU were obtained as 41.3 μM and 18.8 μM, respectively, indicating that n5-FU was more effective against the cancer cell line. The cellular uptake study was performed to check the intake of NF in cancer cells. However, the microtubule-affinity regulating kinase-4 (MARK-4), a cancer-target protein, was purified to study the inhibition and interaction studies. The inhibition assay confirmed the inhibitory potential of 5-FU against MARK-4 protein. the multi-spectroscopic, molecular docking and MD simulation studies were performed to analyse the conformational changes, binding studies, intermolecular interactions, and stability of MARK-4 protein upon binding 5-FU. AIMS
To elucidate the role of Salivary TGF-β isoforms as a predictive and diagnostic marker for oral submucous fibrosis.
SETTINGS AND DESIGN
A total of 30 OSMF and 10 control patients were included in this study, and their clinic-epidemiological data was recorded.
METHODOLOGY
The expression of TGF-β genes-TGF-β1, TGF-β2, TGF-β3-was studied by a real-time polymerase chain reaction in tissue and saliva. Patients were given medicinal intervention for 12 weeks along with jaw-opening exercises. Expression of salivary TGF-β genes was studied at 12 weeks.
STATISTICAL ANALYSIS USED
SPSS software version 20.
RESULT
Expression of salivary TGF beta isoforms in OSMF was more than in the control group. There was an increase in salivary TGF-β1, β2, β3 expressions with increasing clinical grades of OSMF and advancing the stage of the disease. Expression of all the TGF beta isoforms was decreased after treatment with statistically significant results. Statistically significant correlations were found between the mean difference of TGF-β1 and the mean difference between mouth opening and tongue protrusion.
CONCLUSION
Salivary TGF-β isoforms may be used in diagnosis, risk assessment, and screening of the entire population at risk of OSMF after its clinical validation. However, adequate sample size and segmental assessment of the expression of TGF-β isoforms are needed for further evaluation.

High temperatures present a formidable challenge to the cultivation of hot pepper, profoundly impacting not only vegetative growth but also leading to flower and fruit abscission, thereby causing a significant reduction in yield. To unravel the intricate genetic mechanisms governing heat tolerance in hot pepper, an F population was developed through the crossing of two distinct genotypes exhibiting contrasting heat tolerance characteristics: DLS-161-1 (heat tolerant) and DChBL-240 (heat susceptible). The F population, along with the parental lines, was subjected to comprehensive phenotyping encompassing diverse morphological, physiological, and biochemical heat-related traits under high temperature conditions (with maximum temperature ranging from 31 to 46.5°C and minimum temperature from 15.4 to 30.5°C). Leveraging the Illumina Nova Seq-6000 platform, Double digest restriction-site associated DNA sequencing (ddRAD-seq) was employed to generate 67.215 Gb data, with subsequent alignment of 218.93 million processed reads against the reference genome of . Subsequent variant calling and ordering resulted in 5806 polymorphic SNP markers grouped into 12 LGs. Further QTL analysis identified 64 QTLs with LOD values ranging from 2.517 to 11.170 and explained phenotypic variance ranging from 4.05 to 19.39%. Among them, 21 QTLs, explaining more than 10% phenotypic variance, were identified as major QTLs controlling 9 morphological, 3 physiological, and 2 biochemical traits. Interestingly, several QTLs governing distinct parameters were found to be colocalized, suggesting either a profound correlation between the QTLs regulating these traits or their significant genomic proximity. In addition to the QTLs, we also identified 368380 SSR loci within the identified QTL regions, dinucleotides being the most abundant type (211,381). These findings provide valuable insights into the genetics of heat tolerance in hot peppers. The identified QTLs and SSR markers offer opportunities to develop heat-tolerant varieties, ensuring better crop performance under high-temperature conditions.
