Histoplasmosis is a globally distributed systemic infection caused by the dimorphic fungus (). This fungus can cause a wide spectrum of clinical manifestations, and the diagnosis of progressive disseminated histoplasmosis is often a challenge for clinicians. Although microscopy and culture remain the gold standard diagnostic tests for identification, matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) has emerged as a method of microbial identification suitable for the confirmation of dimorphic fungi. However, to our knowledge, there are no entries for spectra in most commercial databases. In this review, we describe the case of disseminated histoplasmosis in a patient living with HIV admitted to our university hospital that we failed to identify by the MALDI-TOF method due to the limited reference spectrum of the instrument database. Furthermore, we highlight the utility of molecular approaches, such as conventional polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and DNA sequencing, as alternative confirmatory tests to MALDI-TOF technology for identifying from positive cultures. An overview of current evidence and limitations of MALDI-TOF-based characterization of is also presented.

BACKGROUND
The fluorescein videoangiography (FL-VAG) has become a valuable adjunct tool in vascular neurosurgery. This work describes using the FL-VAG during bypass surgery and proposes a classification method for evaluating surgical results.
METHODS
We analyzed 26 patients with 50 cerebral bypasses from September 2018 to September 2022. We used a three grades classification method based on the pass of intravenous fluorescein through the anastomosis. Grade 1 represents the synchronous and total filling of the "T" shape ("green T″) formed by the donor and recipient vessel, Grade 2, the asynchronous filling of the anastomosis (incomplete/asynchronous "green T″), and Grade 3, a non-patent anastomosis (absence of "green T″).
RESULTS
Of the 26 patients, 8 underwent one bypass, 14 underwent double bypass, 2 underwent three bypasses, and 2 underwent four bypasses in two different interventions. The type of bypass was end-to-side anastomosis in 47 (94%) cases, internal maxillary artery to middle cerebral artery bypass with a radial artery graft (IMax-MCA anastomosis) in 2 (4%), and PICA-VA transposition in one (2%). We made 24 (48%) bypasses on the right side and 26 (52%) on the left side. After the initial surgery, thirty-nine (78%) bypasses were considered as Grade 1, 5 (10%) as Grade 2, and 6 (12%) as Grade 3. After intraoperative bypass patency assessment (IBPA), 45 (90%) of the bypasses were considered Grade 1 and remained patent on CTA.
CONCLUSIONS
Using FL-VAG and a three-tier classification method is a reliable tool to predict bypass patency. It is safe, low-risk, and available worldwide.

The branching fraction of the rare decay Λ_{b}^{0}→Λ(1520)μ^{+}μ^{-} is measured for the first time, in the squared dimuon mass intervals q^{2}, excluding the J/ψ and ψ(2S) regions. The data sample analyzed was collected by the LHCb experiment at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV, corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 9 fb^{-1}. The result in the highest q^{2} interval, q^{2}>15.0 GeV^{2}/c^{4}, where theoretical predictions have the smallest model dependence, agrees with the predictions.

The first simultaneous test of muon-electron universality using B^{+}→K^{+}ℓ^{+}ℓ^{-} and B^{0}→K^{*0}ℓ^{+}ℓ^{-} decays is performed, in two ranges of the dilepton invariant-mass squared, q^{2}. The analysis uses beauty mesons produced in proton-proton collisions collected with the LHCb detector between 2011 and 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb^{-1}. Each of the four lepton universality measurements reported is either the first in the given q^{2} interval or supersedes previous LHCb measurements. The results are compatible with the predictions of the Standard Model.

Targeting proteins to specific subcellular destinations is essential in prokaryotes, eukaryotes, and the viruses that infect them. Chimalliviridae phages encapsulate their genomes in a nucleus-like replication compartment composed of the protein chimallin (ChmA) that excludes ribosomes and decouples transcription from translation. These phages selectively partition proteins between the phage nucleus and the bacterial cytoplasm. Currently, the genes and signals that govern selective protein import into the phage nucleus are unknown. Here, we identify two components of this protein import pathway: a species-specific surface-exposed region of a phage intranuclear protein required for nuclear entry and a conserved protein, PicA (Protein importer of chimalliviruses A), that facilitates cargo protein trafficking across the phage nuclear shell. We also identify a defective cargo protein that is targeted to PicA on the nuclear periphery but fails to enter the nucleus, providing insight into the mechanism of nuclear protein trafficking. Using CRISPRi-ART protein expression knockdown of PicA, we show that PicA is essential early in the chimallivirus replication cycle. Together, our results allow us to propose a multistep model for the Protein Import Chimallivirus pathway, where proteins are targeted to PicA by amino acids on their surface and then licensed by PicA for nuclear entry. The divergence in the selectivity of this pathway between closely related chimalliviruses implicates its role as a key player in the evolutionary arms race between competing phages and their hosts.

Allocoprophagy, in which animals feed on the feces of other individuals or species, has been little studied in vertebrates, despite its relevance to parasite transmission. These relationships may be especially important in cities, where animal density, disease incidence, and spatial overlap of humans and wildlife increase. Our goal was to document the incidence and predictors of coprophagy by black-billed magpies (Pica hudsonia) at coyote (Canis latrans) scats in Edmonton, Canada. We detected scats by following coyote trails and recorded whether coprophagy had occurred. We used multiple logistic regression to determine the top contextual and environmental predictors of coprophagy. Of 668 coyote scats, 37.3% had apparently been fed on. Coprophagy was more likely in winter and when scats were not fresh and did not contain vegetation or garbage. Environmental predictors of coprophagy included proximity to other coyote scats and playgrounds, distance from water and maintained trails, abundant natural land cover, and proximity to encampments of people experiencing homelessness. Our results reveal that magpies frequently access coyote scat and often do so near human-use areas. In Edmonton, where > 50% of coyotes are infected with a zoonotic tapeworm, coprophagy likely causes magpies to transport parasites with implications for zoonotic disease risk.

BACKGROUND
Adhesive arachnoiditis is a rare yet serious complication that may occur following subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). In this circumstance, it is mainly due to ruptured vertebral artery (VA) or posterior inferior artery (PICA) aneurysms. It disrupts cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) flow leading to complications such as spinal arachnoiditis, syringomyelia, trapped 4th ventricle, or a combination of these conditions. Evidence for effective treatment strategies is currently limited. We aimed to review the epidemiology, clinical characteristics, treatment, complications, outcomes, and prognosis of cranio-vertebral junction and spinal adhesive arachnoiditis resulting from ruptured VA and PICA aneurysms.
METHODS
This study involved a comprehensive literature review and complemented by our own case. We focused on adult cases of arachnoiditis, syringomyelia, and trapped 4th ventricle with SAH caused by ruptured VA or PICA aneurysms, excluding cases unrelated to these aneurysms and those with insufficient data.
RESULTS
The study included 22 patients, with a mean age of 52.4 years. Symptoms commonly manifest within the first year after SAH and timely diagnosis requires a high index of suspicion. Treatment approaches included lysis of adhesions and various shunt procedures. Most patients showed improvement post-treatment, though symptom recurrence is significant.
CONCLUSION
Adhesive arachnoiditis is a critical complication following SAH, most commonly from ruptured VA and PICA aneurysms. Early detection and individualized treatment based on the type of arachnoiditis and CSF flow impact are crucial for effective management. This study underscores the need for tailored treatment strategies and further research in this field.

A measurement of time-dependent CP violation in the decays of B^{0} and B[over ¯]^{0} mesons to the final states J/ψ(→μ^{+}μ^{-})K_{S}^{0}, ψ(2S)(→μ^{+}μ^{-})K_{S}^{0} and J/ψ(→e^{+}e^{-})K_{S}^{0} with K_{S}^{0}→π^{+}π^{-} is presented. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 6 fb^{-1} collected at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt[s]=13 TeV with the LHCb detector. The CP-violation parameters are measured to be S_{ψK_{S}^{0}}=0.717±0.013(stat)±0.008(syst) and C_{ψK_{S}^{0}}=0.008±0.012(stat)±0.003(syst). This measurement of S_{ψK_{S}^{0}} represents the most precise single measurement of the CKM angle β to date and is more precise than the current world average. In addition, measurements of the CP-violation parameters of the individual channels are reported and a combination with the LHCb Run 1 measurements is performed.

An amplitude analysis of B^{0}→J/ψϕK_{S}^{0} decays is performed using proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb^{-1}, collected with the LHCb detector at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV. Evidence with a significance of 4.0 standard deviations of a structure in the J/ψK_{S}^{0} system, named T_{ψs1}^{θ}(4000)^{0}, is seen, with its mass and width measured to be 3991_{-10}^{+12} _{-17}^{+9} MeV/c^{2} and 105_{-25}^{+29} _{-23}^{+17} MeV, respectively, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The T_{ψs1}^{θ}(4000)^{0} state is likely to be the isospin partner of the T_{ψs1}^{θ}(4000)^{+} state, previously observed in the J/ψK^{+} system of the B^{+}→J/ψϕK^{+} decay. When isospin symmetry for the charged and neutral T_{ψs1}^{θ}(4000) states is assumed, the signal significance increases to 5.4 standard deviations.

OBJECTIVE
To evaluate diagnostic image quality of ultra-high-resolution computed tomography angiography (UHR-CTA) in neurovascular imaging as compared to normal resolution CT-angiography (NR-CTA).
MATERIAL AND METHODS
In this retrospective single-center study brain and neck CT-angiography was performed using an ultra-high-resolution computed tomography scanner (n = 82) or a normal resolution CT scanner (NR-CTA; n = 73). Ultra-high-resolution images were reconstructed with a 1024 × 1024 matrix and a slice thickness of 0.25 mm, whereas NR-CT images were reconstructed with a 512 × 512 matrix and a slice thickness of 0.5 mm. Three blinded neuroradiologists assessed overall image quality, artifacts, image noise, overall contrast and diagnostic confidence using a 4-point Likert scale. Furthermore, the visualization and delineation of supra-aortic arteries with an emphasis on the visualization of small intracerebral vessels was assessed using a cerebral vascular score, also utilizing a 4-point Likert scale. Quantitative analyses included signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR), noise and the steepness of gray value transition. Radiation exposure was determined by comparison of computed tomography dose index (CTDIvol), dose length product (DLP) and mean effective dose. Interrater agreement was evaluated via determining Fleiss-Kappa.
RESULTS
Ultra-high-resolution CT-angiography (UHR-CTA) yielded excellent image quality with superior quantitative (SNR: p < 0.001, CNR: p < 0.001, steepness of gray value transition: p < 0.001) and qualitative results (overall image quality: 4 (Inter quartile range (IQR) = 4-4); p < 0.001, diagnostic confidence: 4 (IQR = 4-4); p < 0.001) compared to NR-CT (overall image quality: 3 (IQR = 3-3), diagnostic confidence: 3 (IQR = 3-4)). Furthermore, UHR-CT enabled significantly superior delineation and visualization of all vascular segments, from proximal extracranial vessels to the smallest peripheral cerebral branches (e.g.

Noteworthy, a reduced mean effective dose was observed when applying UHR-CT (NR-CTA: 1.8 ± 0.3 mSv; UHR-CTA: 1.5 ± 0.5 mSv; p < 0.001).
CONCLUSION
Ultra-high-resolution CT-angiography improves image quality in neurovascular imaging allowing the depiction and evaluation of small peripheral cerebral arteries. It may thus improve the detection of pathologies in small cerebrovascular lesions and the resulting diagnosis.
