Review
This review essay explores recent historical and anthropological literature on the emergence and development of transcultural psychiatry in the second half of the twentieth century. It examines how postcolonial psychiatry attempted to remove itself from its erstwhile colonial frameworks and strove to introduce new concepts and paradigms to make itself relevant in the context of decolonization and postwar reconstruction. The essay looks at both continuities and discontinuities between colonial and post-colonial transcultural psychiatry, asking how the recent surge of scholarly literature in this field engaged with these issues. It also aims to identify the most important avenues for future research.

Review
Impairments in social coordination form a core dimension of various psychiatric disorders, including schizophrenia. Advances in interpersonal and computational psychiatry support a major change in studying social coordination in schizophrenia. Although these developments provided novel perspectives to study how interpersonal activities shape coordination and to examine computational mechanisms, direct attempts to integrate the two methodologies have been sparse. Here, we propose an interpersonal computational framework that (1) leverages the active inference framework to model aberrant social coordination processes in schizophrenia and (2) incorporates dynamical system models to dissect intrapersonal and interpersonal synchronisation to inform a statistical model based on active inference. We discuss how this interpersonal computational psychiatry framework can elucidate the aberrant processes leading to psychopathology, with schizophrenia as an example, and highlight how it might aid clinical intervention and practice. Finally, we discuss challenges and opportunities for using the framework in studying social coordination impairments.

OBJECTIVE
To expand on psychiatry's duties under the United Nations (UN) Convention Against Torture.
CONCLUSIONS
As it is currently practised in Australia, psychiatry is in breach of a number of major international conventions. Full compliance with treaty obligations will entail substantial changes in current practice.

Neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) are a group of conditions characterized by impairments of brain processes that impact cognition, communication, motor abilities, and/or behavior during development. These conditions typically have significant effects across the life span and impact personal, social, academic, or occupational functioning. The US Centers for Disease Control and report that 1 in 6 children has a developmental disability, making it highly likely for child and adolescent psychiatrists to encounter children with NDDs in daily practice. While the etiologies of NDDs are broad, genetic syndromes are a common cause of NDDs. The diagnostic yield of thorough genetic testing for NDDs as a group is about 40% based on meta-analysis, including 30% to 50% yield in patients with global developmental delay (GDD) or intellectual disability (ID) and 15% to 20% yield in patients with in autism spectrum disorder. The findings are extremely heterogeneous, including chromosomal copy number variants (CNVs) and more than 2,000 known monogenic disorders associated with NDDs. Diagnostic yields will increase over time with advances in technology and disease gene discovery..

Evidence is accumulating that treatment for psychiatric problems can in some cases be effectively delivered online. Online treatment does not necessarily imply less therapist support (eg, treatment can be delivered through video call), but most online treatments are at least in part self-directed. Research on online treatment therefore not only answers to calls from policy makers and clinical practice about when online treatment can safely replace or outperform in-person treatment, but also challenges assumptions on hypothesized key therapeutic principles (eg, essential common elements) and can discover new therapeutic principles.

Insomnia disorder is characterized by disturbed sleep continuity and associated daytime impairment. Insomnia is frequent in patients with psychiatric disorders ; 30-40% fulfill the criteria for insomnia disorder as a comorbidity. According to current guidelines, cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) is the first-line treatment, comprising sleep education, bedtime restriction, relaxation and cognitive restructuring. Despite guideline recommendations, CBT-I is insufficiently implemented, and insomnia is frequently over-treated with hypnotics. 'Become your own SLEEPexpert' is a behavioral treatment program based on CBT-I with the aim of empowering patients to take care of their own sleep health.
