BACKGROUND
The diagnostic criteria for abdominal obesity are usually waist circumference or waist-to-hip ratio. The magnitude of the risks for cancers of the digestive system and abdominal obesity is unknown. To assess whether abdominal obesity increases the risk of digestive cancer, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of prospective cohort studies in a database.
METHODS
PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases were searched from their inception to December 2022. The 9-star Newcastle Ottawa Scale was used to assess study quality. Pooled relative risks and 95% confidence intervals were calculated using fixed or random effect models respectively. The stability of the results was explored by one-by-one exclusion. Subgroup analysis was conducted to explore sources of heterogeneity. Publication bias was evaluated by Begg's and Egger's tests.
RESULTS
A total of 43 cohort studies were included. There were 42 and 31 studies in the meta-analysis of waist circumference and waist-to-hip ratio on digestive system cancer, respectively. The results of the meta-analysis revealed that the greater waist circumference and waist-to-hip ratio were correlated with increased incidence of digestive system cancers: waist circumference: RR 1.48, 95% CI 1.38-1.59, p < 0.001; waist-to-hip ratio: RR 1.33, 95% CI 1.28-1.38, p = 0.001. Subgroup analysis by cancer type showed that higher WC and WHR would increase the prevalence of LC, PC, GC, EC, and CRC. The sensitivity analysis was conducted by a one-by-one elimination method, and the results of the meta-analysis remained stable. It is proved that the results were robust by the trim-and-fill method.
CONCLUSIONS
There was evidence to suggest that abdominal obesity increased the incidence of digestive cancer, it is necessary to take appropriate measures to reduce abdominal obesity. Waist circumference and waist-to-hip ratio may be better predictors of digestive system cancers. However, the association between waist circumference and digestive system cancer was greater, so more attention should be paid to measuring abdominal obesity with waist circumference.

PURPOSE
The aim of the study was to examine the effects of meal supervision, provided by health professionals, volunteers or family members, on anthropometric, nutritional, psychological, and behavioural outcomes in patients with eating disorders (EDs).
METHODS
The present systematic review was performed according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement. The last search was conducted in three databases (PubMed, Scopus, and the Cochrane library). Inclusion criteria considered paediatric and adult patients suffering from EDs, regardless of ethnicity, and treated in different therapeutic settings. The quality of the studies was evaluated using the Newcastle Ottawa Scale (NOS) adapted for cross-sectional studies and Version 2 of the Cochrane risk-of-bias assessment tool for randomised trials.
RESULTS
3282 articles were retrieved, out of which only 6 met the eligibility criteria. A marked heterogeneity in definitions and approaches to supervised mealtime was observed. This variability emerged in the methodologies used in the supervised meal, and in the reference values for the outcome measures that were used, such as the analysis of different parameters. Based on these observations, mealtime assistance provided to patients with EDs shows an overall positive effect on eating behaviour and dysfunctional attitudes. Future research should be prompted to provide a thorough definition of a structured procedure for meal assistance to be potentially and systematically included in the nutritional rehabilitation protocols for patients with EDs.

Human milk (HM) provides a plethora of nutritional and non-nutritional compounds that support infant development. For many compounds, concentrations vary substantially among mothers and across lactation, and their impact on infant growth is poorly understood. We systematically searched MEDLINE, Embase, the Cochrane Library, Scopus, and Web of Science to synthesize evidence published between 1980 and 2022 on HM components and anthropometry through 2 y of age among term-born infants. Outcomes included weight-for-length, length-for-age, weight-for-age, body mass index (in kg/m)-for-age, and growth velocity. From 9992 abstracts screened, 144 articles were included and categorized based on their reporting of HM micronutrients, macronutrients, or bioactive components. Micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) are reported here, based on 28 articles involving 2526 mother-infant dyads. Studies varied markedly in their designs, sampling times, geographic and socioeconomic settings, reporting practices, and the HM analytes and infant anthropometrics measured. Meta-analysis was not possible because data were sparse for most micronutrients. The most-studied minerals were zinc (15 articles, 1423 dyads) and calcium (7 articles, 714 dyads). HM iodine, manganese, calcium, and zinc concentrations were positively associated with several outcomes (each in ≥2 studies), whereas magnesium (in a single study) was negatively associated with linear growth during early lactation. However, few studies measured HM intake, adjusted for confounders, provided adequate information about complementary and formula feeding, or adequately described HM collection protocols. Only 4 studies (17%) had high overall quality scores. The biological functions of individual HM micronutrients are likely influenced by other HM components; yet, only 1 study analyzed data from multiple micronutrients simultaneously, and few addressed other HM components. Thus, available evidence on this topic is largely inconclusive and fails to address the complex composition of HM. High-quality research employing chronobiology and systems biology approaches is required to understand how HM components work independently and together to influence infant growth and to identify new avenues for future maternal, newborn, or infant nutritional interventions.

BACKGROUND
This study was designed to evaluate the effects of body mass index (BMI) and weight change on the risk of developing cancer overall and cancer at different sites.
METHODS
We searched PubMed and other databases up to July 2023 using the keywords related to 'risk', 'cancer', 'weight', 'overweight', and 'obesity'. We identified eligible studies, and the inclusion criteria encompassed cohort studies in English that focused on cancer diagnosis and included BMI or weight change as an exposure factor. Multiple authors performed data extraction and quality assessment, and statistical analyses were carried out using RevMan and R software. We used random- or fixed-effects models to calculate the pooled relative risk (RR) or hazard ratio along with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). We used the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale to assess study quality.
RESULTS
Analysis included 66 cohort studies. Compared to underweight or normal weight, overweight or obesity was associated with an increased risk of endometrial cancer, kidney cancer, and liver cancer but a decreased risk of prostate cancer and lung cancer. Being underweight was associated with an increased risk of gastric cancer and lung cancer but not that of postmenopausal breast cancer or female reproductive cancer. In addition, weight loss of more than five kg was protective against overall cancer risk.
CONCLUSIONS
Overweight and obesity increase the risk of most cancers, and weight loss of >5 kg reduces overall cancer risk. These findings provide insights for cancer prevention and help to elucidate the mechanisms underlying cancer development.

Effect of skipping breakfast on cardiovascular risk factors: a grade-assessed systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials and prospective cohort studies.
Skipping breakfast is one of the most prevalent irregular eating habits. Several pieces of evidence have reported the association between breakfast omission and a higher risk of cardiovascular diseases. Numerous publications have focused on the impact of skipping breakfast on various cardiovascular risk factors. Therefore, the current systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess this impact, especially with regard to anthropometric measurements, serum lipid profiles, blood pressure, and glycemic control indicators. A comprehensive search was performed in PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Scopus, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials up to 1 April 2023. A total of 11 eligible trials were identified to evaluate the combined effects of skipping breakfast. Final integrated results demonstrated that breakfast omission significantly decreased the body weight (mean difference = -0.66, 95% CI: -1.09 to -0.24, = 0.002, 0.0) and increased the level of serum low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) (mean difference = 9.89, 95% CI: 5.14 to 14.63, = 0.000, 17.3). Subgroup analysis also revealed potential factors that may affect the outcomes, for example, the physiological condition of participants, duration, gender, and type of breakfast. In conclusion, skipping breakfast may reduce body weight while increasing the level of serum LDL-C at the same time. In view of the limited trials, further studies are needed to expound the role of breakfast omission in cardiovascular diseases.

Association between prepregnancy body mass index or gestational weight gain and adverse pregnancy outcomes among Chinese women with gestational diabetes mellitus: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
OBJECTIVE
The association between prepregnancy body mass index (BMI) or gestational weight gain (GWG) and adverse pregnancy outcomes among Chinese women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is unknown. This study aims to evaluate such association by synthesising the evidence.
DESIGN
Systematic review and meta-analysis.

PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, EMBASE, China Biology Medicine disc, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wangfang, and China Science and Technology Journal Database searched from inception to 11 August 2023.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Prospective cohort studies, retrospective cohort studies and case-control studies estimating the relationship of abnormal prepregnancy BMI (including underweight, overweight or obesity) or inappropriate GWG (including excess GWG or insufficient GWG) with adverse pregnancy outcomes of interest were included. Outcomes included macrosomia, caesarean section, preterm birth, gestational hypertension, large for gestational age (LGA) and small for gestational age (SGA).
DATA EXTRACTION AND SYNTHESIS
Two reviewers independently selected studies, extracted the data and assessed the risk of bias. OR estimate and its 95% CI were pooled using Stata software fixed-effect model. Subgroup analysis, meta-regression and sensitivity analysis were performed to ensure credibility of the results.
RESULTS
Twenty-three studies (eighteen retrospective cohort studies, three prospective cohort studies and two case control studies) involving 57 013 Chinese women with GDM were identified. Meta-analysis results showed that compared with GDM women with normal weight, GDM women with underweight were at a higher risk of SGA (OR=1.79 (1.54 to 2.07), five studies involving 31 967 women); women with overweight had higher risks of macrosomia (OR=1.65 (1.49 to 1.82), eleven studies involving 41 683 women), caesarean section (OR=1.48 (1.38 to 1.59), ten studies involving 34 935 women), preterm birth (OR=1.27 (1.13 to 1.43), eight studies involving 38 295 women) and LGA (OR=1.73 (1.54 to 1.95), seven studies involving 31 342 women) and women with obesity had higher risks of macrosomia (OR=2.37 (2.04 to 2.76), eleven studies involving 41 683 women), caesarean section (OR=2.07 (1.84 to 2.32), nine studies involving 34 829 women), preterm birth (OR=1.31 (1.09 to 1.57), eight studies involving 38 295 women) and LGA (OR=2.63 (2.15 to 3.21), six studies involving 31 236 women). Regard to GWG, compared with Chinese GDM women with sufficient GWG, GDM women with excessive GWG had higher risks of macrosomia (OR=1.74 (1.58 to 1.92), twelve studies involving 40 966 women), caesarean section (OR=1.44 (1.36 to 1.53), nine studies involving 36 205 women) and LGA (OR=2.12 (1.96 to 2.29), twelve studies involving 42 342 women); women with insufficient GWG conversely had higher risks of preterm birth (OR=1.59 (1.45 to 1.74), nine studies involving 37 461 women) and SGA (OR=1.38 (1.27 to 1.51), ten studies involving 41 080 women).
CONCLUSIONS
For Chinese women with GDM, abnormal prepregnancy BMI or inappropriate GWG were related to higher risks of many adverse pregnancy outcomes. Therefore, medical staff should pay more attention to the weight management of GDM women during pregnancy.

Human milk (HM) contains macronutrients, micronutrients, and a multitude of other bioactive factors, which can have a long-term impact on infant growth and development. We systematically searched MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, Scopus, and Web of Science to synthesize evidence published between 1980 and 2022 on HM components and anthropometry through 2 y of age among term-born infants. From 9992 abstracts screened, 141 articles were included and categorized based on their reporting of HM micronutrients, macronutrients, or bioactive components. Bioactives including hormones, HM oligosaccharides (HMOs), and immunomodulatory components are reported here, based on 75 articles from 69 unique studies reporting observations from 9980 dyads. Research designs, milk collection strategies, sampling times, geographic and socioeconomic settings, reporting practices, and outcomes varied considerably. Meta-analyses were not possible because data collection times and reporting were inconsistent among the studies included. Few measured infant HM intake, adjusted for confounders, precisely captured breastfeeding exclusivity, or adequately described HM collection protocols. Only 5 studies (6%) had high overall quality scores. Hormones were the most extensively examined bioactive with 46 articles (n = 6773 dyads), compared with 13 (n = 2640 dyads) for HMOs and 12 (n = 1422 dyads) for immunomodulatory components. Two studies conducted untargeted metabolomics. Leptin and adiponectin demonstrated inverse associations with infant growth, although several studies found no associations. No consistent associations were found between individual HMOs and infant growth outcomes. Among immunomodulatory components in HM, IL-6 demonstrated inverse relationships with infant growth. Current research on HM bioactives is largely inconclusive and is insufficient to address the complex composition of HM. Future research should ideally capture HM intake, use biologically relevant anthropometrics, and integrate components across categories, embracing a systems biology approach to better understand how HM components work independently and synergistically to influence infant growth.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW
This scoping review aimed to provide a recent update on how to address dysfunctional physical activity and exercise (DEx), and on effects and experiences from including supervised and adapted physical activity or exercise (PAE), during treatment of eating disorders.
RECENT FINDINGS
A systematic search for peer-reviewed publications in the period 2021-2023 generated 10 original studies and 6 reviews, including one meta-analysis (reporting according to PRISMA and SWiM). Findings showed that DEx was effectively managed by use of psychoeducation and/or PAE. Inclusion of PAE as part of treatment showed low-to-moderate impact on health and positive or neutral effects on eating disorder psychopathology. There were no reports of adverse events. For individuals with anorexia nervosa, PAE improved physical fitness with no influence on body weight or body composition unless progressive resistance training was conducted. For individuals with bulimia nervosa, DEx was reduced simultaneously with increased functional exercise and successful implementation of physical activity recommendations during treatment. Experiences by individuals with eating disorders and clinicians, including accredited exercise physiologists, pointed to positive benefits by including PAE in treatment.
SUMMARY
Lack of consensus about DEx and of recommendations for PAE in official treatment guidelines hinder adequate approaches to these issues in eating disorder treatment.

Assessment of correlation between conventional anthropometric and imaging-derived measures of body fat composition: a systematic literature review and meta-analysis of observational studies.
BACKGROUND
In studies of the association of adiposity with disease risk, widely used anthropometric measures of adiposity (e.g. body-mass-index [BMI], waist circumference [WC], waist-hip ratio [WHR]) are simple and inexpensive to implement at scale. In contrast, imaging-based techniques (e.g. magnetic resonance imaging [MRI] and dual x-ray absorptiometry [DXA]) are expensive and labour intensive, but can provide more accurate quantification of body fat composition. There is, however, limited evidence about the relationship between conventional and imaging-derived measures of adiposity.
METHODS
We searched Scopus and Web of Science for published reports in English of conventional versus imaging-derived measurements of adiposity. We identified 42 articles (MRI = 22; DXA = 20) that met selection criteria, involving 42,556 (MRI = 15,130; DXA = 27,426) individuals recruited from community or hospital settings. Study-specific correlation coefficients (r) were transformed using Fisher's Z transformation, and meta-analysed to yield weighted average correlations, both overall and by ancestry, sex and age, where feasible. Publication bias was investigated using funnel plots and Egger's test.
RESULTS
Overall, 98% of participants were 18 + years old, 85% male and 95% White. BMI and WC were most strongly correlated with imaging-derived total abdominal (MRI-derived: r = 0.88-; DXA-derived: 0.50-0.86) and subcutaneous abdominal fat (MRI-derived: 0.83-0.85), but were less strongly correlated with visceral abdominal fat (MRI-derived: 0.76-0.79; DXA-derived: 0.80) and with DXA-derived %body fat (0.76). WHR was, at best, strongly correlated with imaging-derived total abdominal (MRI-derived: 0.60; DXA-derived: 0.13), and visceral abdominal fat (MRI-derived: 0.67; DXA-derived: 0.65), and moderately with subcutaneous abdominal (MRI-derived: 0.54), and with DXA-derived %body fat (0.58). All conventional adiposity measures were at best moderately correlated with hepatic fat (MRI-derived: 0.36-0.43). In general, correlations were stronger in women than in men, in Whites than in non-Whites, and in those aged 18 + years.
CONCLUSIONS
In this meta-analysis, BMI and WC, but not WHR, were very strongly correlated with imaging-derived total and subcutaneous abdominal fat. By comparison, all three measures were moderately or strongly correlated with imaging-based visceral abdominal fat, with WC showing the greatest correlation. No anthropometric measure was substantially correlated with hepatic fat. Further larger studies are needed to compare these measures within the same study population, and to assess their relevance for disease risks in diverse populations.

INTRODUCTION
Macro-algae products have been shown to ameliorate the metabolic disorders state. Thus, highlighting their function as supplementary therapeutic agents can be a novel strategy for clinical therapies. This systematic review and meta-analysis of clinical trials aimed to summarize the effect of macro-algae consumption on serum lipid profile, glycaemic control and anthropometric factors.
METHODS
In this systematic review and meta-analysis, a comprehensive search was performed for relevant studies published up to May 2023. The Cochran's Q test and I-square (I ) tests were used to evaluate heterogeneity across the included studies. The meta-analysis was conducted using random-effects model (DerSimonian and Laird), and weighted mean difference (WMD) was considered as the pooled effect size.
RESULTS
Out of 8602 papers in the initial screening, eight clinical trials with a total of 438 participants were included into this meta-analysis. The results indicated that macro-algae supplementation significantly decreased serum levels of total cholesterol (TC) (WMD = -6.7 mg/dL; 95% CI: -12.59, -0.80; item = 0.026) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c) (WMD = -8.25 mg/dL; 95% CI: -15.38, -1.12; p-value = .023). There was an increase in level of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c) (WMD = 0.48 mg/dL; 95% CI: -2.05, 3.01; p-value = .71) which was not statistically significant. Macro-algae supplementation reduced body mass index (BMI) (WMD = -0.28 kg/m ; 95% CI: -0.96, 0.41; p-value = .426), weight (WMD = -0.39 kg; 95% CI: -3.6, 2.83; p-value = .81), waist circumference (WC) (WMD = -0.52 cm; 95% CI: -2.71, 1.66; p-value = .64), fasting blood sugar (FBS) (WMD = -1.95 mg/dL; 95% CI: -5.19, 1.28; p-value = .24) and HbA1c (WMD = -0.02%; 95% CI: -0.14, 0.09; p-value = .66) in intervention group.
CONCLUSIONS
This meta-analysis indicated that macro-algae supplementation significantly decreased TC and LDL-c level. It can also increase HDL-c level and reduce anthropometric indices and glycaemic control factors.
