Review
INTRODUCTION
Written reports are often the sole form of communication from diagnostic imaging. Reports are increasingly being accessed by patients through electronic records. Experiencing medical terminology can be confusing and lead to miscommunication, a decrease in involvement and increased anxiety for patients.
METHODS
This systematic review was designed to include predefined study selection criteria and was registered prospectively on PROSPERO (CRD42020221734). MEDLINE, CINAHL, Academic Search Complete (EBSCOhost), EMBASE, Scopus and EThOS were searched to identify articles meeting the inclusion criteria. Studies were assessed against the Mixed-Methods Appraisal Tool version 2018 for quality. A segregated approach was used to synthesise data. A thematic synthesis of the qualitative data and a narrative review of the quantitative data were performed, and findings of both syntheses were then integrated.
FINDINGS
Twelve articles reporting 13 studies were included. This review found that patients' experiences of imaging reports included positive and negative aspects. The study identified two main themes encompassing both qualitative and quantitative findings. Patients reported their experiences regarding their understanding of reports and self-management.
DISCUSSION
Patient understanding of imaging reports is multi factorial including medical terminology, communication aids and errors. Self-management through direct access is important to patients. While receiving bad news is a concern, responsibility for accessing this is accepted.
CONCLUSION
A patient-centred approach to writing imaging reports may help to improve the quality of service, patient experience and wider health outcomes.

Review
BACKGROUND
Proton-pump inhibitors (PPI) are frequently used in the emergency and general practice settings in several clinical presentations linked to acute upper gastro-intestinal tract disorders as abdominal or chest pain without recommendations.
OBJECTIVE
The aim of this scoping review was to assess pain reduction, diagnostic performance, and safety in the first 24 h-management in primary care or emergency medicine.
METHODS
Search was realized by 2 independent reviewers in PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science following PRISMA-ScR guidelines. Only original articles or systematic reviews in English were included. Studies about chronic and/or bleeding conditions, therapeutic cocktails and studies without pain evaluation were excluded. Two methodologies were used for bias estimation.
RESULTS
From 4442 titles, 79 full-text articles were assessed, and 9 were included. There is no strong evidence supporting the use of PPI as a first line analgesic or diagnostic test in acute syndromes linked to acute upper gastro-intestinal tract disorder. A small effect in pain reduction was retrieved in patients with low pain scores. A poor additional value in patients with gastric reflux, and a low specificity compared to other diagnostic tests were observed. A short-term PPI administration appears to be safe with low risk of serious allergic reactions, and poor adverse effects (moderate evidence).
CONCLUSION
Although PPIs may contribute to the multimodal analgesia in acute settings, with few and/or minor side effects, no recommendation can be drawn for their use as a primary analgesic. Data regarding the relevance of the PPI test are much less clear, no data regarding care pathways are available.

Review
BACKGROUND
Budgeting is the process resource allocation to produce the best output according to the revenue levels involved. Among the constraints that healthcare organizations, including hospitals, both in the public and private sectors, grapple with is budgetary constraints. Therefore, cost control and resource management should be considered in healthcare organizations under such circumstances.
METHODS
We aimed to identify methods of budgeting in healthcare systems and organizations as a systematic review. To extract and analyze the data, a form was designed by the researcher to define budgeting methods proposed in the literature and to identify their strengths, weaknesses, and dimensions. The search was conducted in Google Scholar, Web of science, Pub med and Scopus databases covering the period 1990-2022.
RESULTS
Overall, 33 articles were included in the study for extraction and final analysis. The study results were reported in four main themes: healthcare system budgeting, capital budgeting, global budgeting, and performance-based budgeting.
CONCLUSION
Each budgeting approach has its own pros and cons and requires meeting certain requirements. These approaches are selected and implemented depending on each country's infrastructure and conditions as well as its organizations. These infrastructures need to be thoroughly examined before implementing any budgeting method, and then a budgeting method should be selected accordingly.

Review
Bilateral scaphoid fractures are rare lesions, warranting a review to synthesize current knowledge, identify gaps, and suggest research directions. Two authors, adhering to PRISMA guidelines, in January 2024 identified 16 case reports (1976-2023). Data extraction included demographics, injury mechanisms, associated injuries, fracture sites, treatments, and outcomes. Among 121 initial outcomes, 16 articles met the criteria, predominantly affecting young people (93.75% males, mean age 22 years). High-energy traumas (75%) often caused associated wrist injuries (68.75%). Most fractures required surgical intervention (68.75%), primarily headless compression screws. Bilateral scaphoid fractures, which are rare but associated with high-energy traumas, commonly involve wrist injuries. Surgical management is often necessary, yielding better outcomes with fewer complications. Further research is essential to understand the epidemiology, optimal management, and long-term results. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment are crucial for preventing complications and ensuring favorable patient outcomes.

Review
Although topical medical therapy and selective-laser-trabeculoplasty represent the treatments of choice to reduce intraocular pressure, many patients do not achieve adequate glaucoma control; therefore, they require further options and eventually surgery. Trabeculectomy is still considered the gold standard, but the surgical management of glaucoma has undergone continuous advances in recent years, XEN-gel-stent has been introduced as a safer and less traumatic means of lowering intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma (OAG). This study aimed to review the effectiveness and safety of clinical data on XEN-stent in OAG patients with a Synthesis-Without-Meta-analysis (SWiM) methodology. A total of 339 studies were identified following a literature search adhering to PRISMA guidelines and, after evaluation, 96 studies are discussed. XEN63 and XEN45 device data were collected both short and long term. In addition, this document has evaluated different aspects related to the XEN implant, including: its role compared to trabeculectomy; the impact of mitomycin-C dose on clinical outcomes; postoperative management of the device; and the identification of potential factors that might predict its clinical outcomes. Finally, current challenges and future perspectives of XEN stent, such as its use in fragile or high myopia patients, were discussed.

PloS One 2023To identify and systematically review current scholarship on talent management of international nurses in healthcare organizations. (Review)
Review
AIM
To identify and systematically review current scholarship on talent management of international nurses in healthcare organizations.
BACKGROUND
As nurse shortages persistently pose challenges for healthcare organizations globally, one of the primary strategies employed to address these shortages is employment of international nurses. To date little has been done to systematically review and collate contemporary research on talent management of this strategically important cohort. Talent management is a holistic construct that can support healthcare organizations to attract, develop, motivate, and retain talented employees to drive organizational performance. This systematic review isolates, appraises and collates available evidence on talent management practices for international nurses.
STUDY DESIGN
Systematic literature review.
DATA SOURCES
Searches of PubMed, EBSCO and Scopus were made covering literature from 2012-2022.
REVIEW METHODS
This study followed Cochrane protocol for Systematic Reviews and key search terms were developed in consultation with University of Limerick library. As a key aim of the review was to provide evidence for the development of effective talent management practices, only peer-reviewed academic papers and empirical studies were included. Initial articles screening was conducted by two reviewers and full articles review was conducted by the entire research team. Findings were combined in a data extraction template for further analysis.
RESULTS
This review includes 62 articles thematically analysed under the headings recruitment and selection, retention and turnover, career progression, professional development, discrimination and racism, culture and communication.
CONCLUSION
No articles were found that directly address talent management for international nurses. Although there are studies that address aspects of talent management independently, more research is required on talent management as a holistic process for international nurses to inform evidence-based practice.
IMPACT
This research emphasizes the importance of talent management for retention of international nurses in healthcare settings. It provides a knowledge base for healthcare organisations to enhance employee retention and ensure quality care for patients, as well as setting the foundation for future studies in this area.

Review
BACKGROUND
Noninsertional Achilles tendinopathy affects both athletes and sedentary individuals, and its incidence is rising. Conservative management is the mainstay of treatment, but a variety of operative techniques have been described to treat recalcitrant cases. We seek to outline the current available evidence for surgical management of noninsertional Achilles tendinopathy.
STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS
A systematic review was performed using the MEDLINE and EMBASE databases, and all articles were reviewed by at least 2 authors. Each article was assigned a level of evidence in accordance with the standards of . The available data were reviewed and a level of evidence was assigned to each intervention of interest, based on the revised classifications of Wright.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION
A total of 46 articles met inclusion and exclusion criteria. There is fair evidence (grade B) in support of open debridement with 1 level II study, 1 level III study, and 8 level IV studies. There is fair evidence (grade B) in support of arthroscopic or minimally invasive surgical techniques. There is poor evidence (grade C) in support of flexor hallucis longus transfer, longitudinal tenotomy, peritenolysis, gastrocnemius recession, and plantaris excision. There is insufficient evidence (grade I) to provide a recommendation about other surgical treatment methods for noninsertional Achilles tendinopathy. .

BACKGROUND
Yoga is a non-pharmacological conservative therapeutic modality that can be employed for the management of chronic low back pain (CLBP). In this overview, we have summarized and evaluated data from current systematic reviews (SRs) on the use of yoga for CLBP.
METHODS
We comprehensively searched SRs on the use of yoga for CLBP in nine electronic databases from inception to September 2023. The methodological quality was evaluated using the Assessment of Multiple Systematic Review Scale-2 (AMSTAR-2). The reporting quality of the included SRs was evaluated using the Preferred Reporting Item for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis-2020 (PRISMA-2020), and the quality of data was graded using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE). Two independent researchers performed the screening, data extraction, and quality assessment process of SRs.
RESULTS
A total of 13 SRs were included. The results of the AMSTAR-2 indicated that the methodological quality of the included studies was relatively low. The PRISMA-2020 checklist evaluation results indicated that methodological limitations in reporting, especially regarding data processing and presentation, were the main weaknesses. The GRADE assessment indicated that 30 outcomes were rated moderate, 42 were rated low level, and 20 were rated very low level. Downgrading factors were mainly due to the limitations of the included studies.
CONCLUSION
Yoga appears to be an effective and safe non-pharmacological therapeutic modality for the Management of CLBP. Currently, it may exhibit better efficacy in improving pain and functional disability associated with CLBP. However, the methodological quality and quality of evidence for SRs/MAs in the included studies were generally low, and these results should be interpreted cautiously.

Asian Journal of Urology Jan 2024To conduct a systematic literature review on urethral calculi in a contemporary cohort describing etiology, investigation, and management patterns. (Review)
Review
OBJECTIVE
To conduct a systematic literature review on urethral calculi in a contemporary cohort describing etiology, investigation, and management patterns.
METHODS
A systematic search of MEDLINE and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL) databases was performed. Articles, including case reports and case series on urethral calculi published between January 2000 and December 2019, were included. Full-text manuscripts were reviewed for clinical parameters including symptomatology, etiology, medical history, investigations, treatment, and outcomes. Data were collated and analyzed with univariate methods.
RESULTS
Seventy-four publications met inclusion criteria, reporting on 95 cases. Voiding symptoms (41.1%), pain (40.0%), and acute urinary retention (32.6%) were common presenting features. Urethral calculi were most often initially investigated using plain X-ray (63.2%), with almost all radio-opaque (98.3%). Urethral calculi were frequently associated with coexistent bladder or upper urinary tract calculi (16.8%) and underlying urethral pathology (53.7%) including diverticulum (33.7%) or stricture (13.7%). Urethral calculi were most commonly managed with external urethrolithotomy (31.6%), retrograde manipulation (22.1%), and endoscopic lithotripsy (17.9%).
CONCLUSION
This unique systematic review of urethral calculi provided a summary of clinical features and treatment trends with a suggested treatment algorithm. Management in contemporary urological practice should be according to calculus size, shape, anatomical location, and presence of urethral pathology.
