The external stenting of saphenous vein grafts (SVGs) during coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) has been proven to reduce intimal hyperplasia (IH) in animal models, paving the way for human randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to be conducted. Herein, we performed a study-level meta-analysis to assess the impact of the Venous External SupporT (VEST) device, an external stent, on the outcomes of SVGs. A systematic search was conducted to identify all RCTs comparing VEST-stented to non-stented SVGs in patients undergoing CABG. The primary outcome was graft occlusion. The main secondary outcomes were repeat revascularization, SVG IH area, and intimal-medial thickness. Two RCTs totaling 407 patients were included. At a mean follow-up of 1.5 years, there was no difference in graft occlusion between groups (incidence rate ratio: 1.11; 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.80-1.53). The rate of repeat revascularization was also similar (odds ratio: 0.66; 95% CI: 0.27-1.64). The IH area (standardized mean difference (SMD): -0.45; 95% CI: -0.79 to -0.10) and intimal-medial thickness (SMD: -0.50; 95% CI: -0.90 to -0.10) were significantly reduced in the VEST group. Our findings show that significant reductions in the IH area and the intimal-medial thickness in VEST-stented SVGs do not currently translate into a lesser need for repeat revascularization or less graft occlusion events compared to non-stented SVGs at 1.5 years after CABG.

Atherosclerosis and depression: is carotid intima-media thicker in patients with depression compared to matched control individuals? A systematic review and meta-analysis.
OBJECTIVE
To investigate if there is an association between atherosclerosis and depression by using as imaging biomarker the carotid intima media thickness (cIMT), a surrogate marker for atherosclerosis.
METHODS
PubMed/Medline, Embase and Cochrane databases were comprehensively searched to identify studies investigating the association between cIMT and depression. The results were pooled using a random-effects statistical model, appropriate for the expected high heterogeneity. Sensitivity and subgroup analyses were conducted where data was available.
RESULTS
Overall, 22 and 13 studies met inclusion criteria for the qualitative and the quantitative synthesis, respectively, with a total of 4466 patients and 21,635 control participants. Results showed that cIMT is significantly higher in the depression, compared to the control groups with an overall mean difference of 0.07 mm (95% CI 0.04-0.10, p < 0.01). Subgroup analysis showed that diabetes could present as a confounding factor in patients with depression and an increased cIMT.
CONCLUSIONS
This study confirms a significantly increased cIMT in patients with depression, compared with controls and suggests a possible bidirectional link between atherosclerosis and depression. An early screening of cardiovascular disease in individuals suffering with depression should be considered.

Effectiveness of traditional Chinese medicine formulas combined with acupuncture in the treatment of ovulation dysfunction infertility: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
BACKGROUND
To evaluate the efficacy and safety of traditional Chinese medicine formulas combined with acupuncture for the treatment of ovulation dysfunction infertility (ODI).
METHODS
From January 1, 2018 to March 12, 2023, 7 electronic databases, PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, CNKI, Wanfang Database, and CBM, were systematically searched to identify eligible randomized controlled trial studies.
RESULTS
Meta analysis showed that traditional Chinese medicine combined with acupuncture can more effectively improve sex hormone levels compared to Western medicine alone, including follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) in older patients (standardized mean difference [SMD]: 3.00; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 2.35-3.66; P = .024, I 2 = 28%), FSH in younger patients (SMD: 0.45; 95% CI: -0.15, 1.05; P = .03, I 2 = 71%), estradiol (E2) (SMD: 7.50; 95% CI: v0.47, 15.48; P < .00001, I 2 = 99%), and progesterone (P) (SMD: 2.20; 95% CI: 2.07-2.33; P < .00001, I 2 = 29%). Compared to Western medicine alone, traditional Chinese medicine combined with acupuncture also had a better effect to increase ovulation rate (risk ratio [RR]: 2.46; 95% CI: 1.72-3.52; P < .00001, I 2 = 0%), pregnancy rate (RR: 2.50; 95% CI: 1.96-3.18; P < .00001, I 2 = 0%), maximum follicle diameter (MFD) (SMD: 2.27; 95% CI: 1.37-3.16; P < .00001, I 2 = 91%), and endometrial thickness (SMD: 1.71; 95% CI: 1.31-2.11; P < .00001, I 2 = 87%). The combination of traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture also had better effects on quality of life (RR: 0.19; 95% CI: 0.15-0.23; P < .00001, I 2 = 0%) and reduced adverse reactions (RR: 0.15; 95% CI: 0.05-0.48; P = .001, I 2 = 0%), compared to Western medicine alone.
CONCLUSION
This study shows evidence that traditional Chinese medicine formulas combined with acupuncture are an effective and safe treatment approach. However, this conclusion requires further confirmation due to the insufficient quality of the included trials.

Purpose To perform a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the effect of enzyme replacement therapy on cardiac MRI parameters in patients with Fabry disease. Materials and Methods A systematic literature search was conducted from January 1, 2000, through January 1, 2024, in PubMed, ClinicalTrials.gov, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases. Study outcomes were changes in the following parameters: left ventricular wall mass (LVM), measured in grams; LVM indexed to body mass index, measured in grams per meters squared; maximum left ventricular wall thickness (MLVWT), measured in millimeters; late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) extent, measured in percentage of LVM; and native T1 mapping, measured in milliseconds. A random-effects meta-analysis of the pooled mean differences between baseline and follow-up parameters was conducted. The study protocol was registered in PROSPERO (CRD42022336223). Results The final analysis included 11 studies of a total of 445 patients with Fabry disease (mean age ± SD, 41 years ± 11; 277 male, 168 female). Between baseline and follow-up cardiac MRI, the following did not change: T1 mapping (mean difference, 6 msec [95% CI: -2, 15]; two studies, 70 patients, = 88%) and LVM indexed (mean difference, -1 g/m [95% CI: -6, 3]; four studies, 290 patients, = 81%). The following measures minimally decreased: LVM (mean difference, -18 g [95% CI: -33, -3]; seven studies, 107 patients, = 96%) and MLVWT (mean difference, -1 mm [95% CI: -2, -0.02]; six studies, 151 patients, = 90%). LGE extent increased (mean difference, 1% [95% CI: 1, 1]; three studies, 114 patients, = 85%). Conclusion In patients with Fabry disease, enzyme replacement therapy was associated with stabilization of LVM, MLVWT, and T1 mapping values, whereas LGE extent mildly increased. PURPOSE
To investigate changes in choroidal thickness in patients diagnosed with pseudoexfoliation syndrome (PEX) compared to healthy controls, using optical coherence tomography (OCT).
METHODS
PubMed and Scopus databases were systematically searched for published articles comparing choroidal thickness between patients with PEX and healthy controls. Standardized Mean Difference (SMD) with 95 % confidence interval (CI) was computed to compare continuous variables. Revman 5.4 was used for the analysis. Subgroup analyses were performed according to OCT devices used.
RESULTS
12 studies were included in our analysis. Subfoveal choroidal thickness was decreased in patients with PEX compared to healthy controls. Subgroup analysis confirmed this finding in studies that used Heidelberg or Optovue OCT Devices.
CONCLUSION
Our meta-analysis showed that choroidal thickness was decreased in patients with PEX compared to controls. Increased heterogeneity and small case-control studies are the main limitations of the meta-analysis. Further studies are needed to evaluate the clinical significance of reduced subfoveal choroidal thickness in PEX.

PURPOSE
This study was aimed to systematically evaluate the efficacy of artificial cycle-prepared frozen-thawed embryo transfer (FET) with or without gonadotrophin-releasing hormone agonist (GnRH-a) pretreatment for women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
METHODS
The analysis was carried out by searching the PubMed, EMBASE, and CNKI databases with a combination of keywords before October 2021. The available studies of the effects of GnRH-a pretreatment or no pretreatment on FET in PCOS patients were considered. The risk ratios (RRs) or standardized mean differences (SMD) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated with using subgroups and sensitivity analysis. The quality evaluation for this analysis was followed.
RESULTS
Seventeen studies including 3646 women were analyzed. GnRH-a pretreatment was significantly associated with a higher implantation rate (RR = 1.12, 95%CI: 1.00-1.24) and clinical pregnancy rate (RR = 1.19, 95%CI: 1.08-1.32) than the placebo. Moreover, in the GnRH-a pretreatment group, significant differences were detected for increasing the endometrium thickness among PCOS patients (SMD = 0.56, 95%CI: 0.20-0.92). However, for RCTs subgroup, no differences were observed, even after sensitivity analyses. In addition, the miscarriage rates, ectopic pregnancy rates, multiple pregnancy rates, and live birth rates were similar in both two groups.
CONCLUSIONS
Endometrial preparation using GnRH agonist pretreatment prior to FET seems to be the better choice for PCOS patients. However, well-designed RCTs are required for confirmation.

BACKGROUND
There is still a lack of sufficient evidence-based medical data on the effect of resveratrol (Res) on primary osteoporosis (OP). This meta-analysis aimed to comprehensively evaluate the role of Res in animal models of primary OP.
METHODS
The PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science and Embase databases were searched up to August 2023. The risk of bias was assessed by the SYRCLE RoB tool. Random- or fixed-effects models were used to determine the 90% confidence interval (CI) or standardized mean difference (SMD). Statistical analysis was performed with RevMan 5.4 and Stata 14.0.
RESULTS
A total of 24 studies containing 714 individuals were included. Compared with those in the control group, the bone mineral density (BMD) (P < 0.00001), bone volume/total volume (BV/TV) (P < 0.001), trabecular thickness (Tb.Th) (P < 0.00001), and trabecular number (Tb.N) (P < 0.00001) were markedly greater, and the trabecular separation (Tb.Sp) (P < 0.00001) was significantly greater. Compared with the control group, the Res group also exhibited marked decreases in alkaline phosphatase (ALP) (P < 0.05), tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase 5b (TRAP5b) (P < 0.01), and type I collagen strong carboxyl peptide (CTX-1) (P < 0.00001) and a marked increase in osteoprotegerin (OPG) (P < 0.00001).
CONCLUSION
In summary, we concluded that Res can markedly increase BMD, improve morphometric indices of trabecular microstructure and serum bone turnover markers (BTMs), and exert a protective effect in animal models of primary osteoporosis. This study can supply experimental reference for Res in primary osteoporosis treatment.

PURPOSE
To evaluate the efficacy of inverted internal limiting membrane (ILM) flap technique in full-thickness macular holes (MHs) with a size of ≤400 μm compared to the ILM peeling technique.
METHODS
Related literatures that compared inverted ILM flap and ILM peeling in MHs ≤ 400 μm were reviewed by searching electronic databases including Pubmed, EMbase, ClinicalTrials.gov, and Cochrane Library up to April 2023. The primary outcome measure was hole closure rate, and the secondary outcome measures were the mean postoperative best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), retinal sensitivity, and outer status of the retinal layers, including the external limiting membrane and ellipsoid zone. The quality of the articles was assessed according to the revised version of the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool for randomized trials or the Newcastle-Ottawa scale. In the case of heterogeneity, a sensitivity analysis was conducted, and publication bias was visually evaluated using a funnel plot.
RESULTS
This review included six studies with 610 eyes for the primary outcome and 385 eyes for the secondary outcomes, which were two randomized control trials and four retrospective studies. Pooled data revealed that the overall MH closure rate was 99.4% in the inverted ILM flap group and 96.2% in the ILM peeling group, without significant difference between the two groups (odds ratio = 3.91; 95% confidence interval, 0.82~18.69; P = 0.09). The inverted ILM flap technique did not have a favorable effect on the BCVA, retinal sensitivity, or recovery of the outer retinal layers. These results were consistent with those of the subgroup analysis of the different follow-up periods. No significant publication bias was observed.
CONCLUSION
In eyes with MHs of ≤400 μm, both techniques demonstrated excellent surgical outcomes without significant differences. Therefore, surgical techniques can be selected according to surgeon preferences.

Assisted reproductive technologies (ART) have become a vital option for women facing fertility challenges. One of the potential interventions being explored is the use of sildenafil citrate (SC) to improve clinical outcomes in ART procedures. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of SC on clinical outcomes in women undergoing ART. A comprehensive literature search was conducted using multiple databases, including PubMed, Scopus, Embase, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials. The search covered studies from inception until April 15, 2023, and identified relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs) for inclusion in the analysis. The endpoints were summarized as risk ratio (RR) or standardized mean difference (SMD) with 95% confidence interval (CI). After meticulous analysis, twenty-eight RCTs comprising 3,426 women were included in the study. The results revealed significant findings regarding the impact of SC on clinical pregnancy (CP) rates. Women receiving SC demonstrated a significantly higher probability of CP compared to the control group (n=21 RCTs, RR=1.43; 95% CI: 1.29, 1.59). Additionally, when SC was combined with other medications like clomiphene citrate (CC) or estradiol valerate, it further improved the likelihood of CP compared to these medications alone (RR=1.35, 95% CI: 1.19, 1.53; RR=1.55, 95% CI: 1.08, 2.22, respectively). Furthermore, the study observed that the mean endometrial thickness (ET) was significantly higher in women who received SC compared to the control group, which involved other active interventions or placebo (SMD=0.77, 95% CI: 0.20, 1.34). Particularly, the administration of SC resulted in a notably higher ET level compared to the placebo (SMD: 1.33, 95% CI: 0.15, 2.51). The findings suggest that luteal supplementation of SC can be considered a beneficial approach to enhance ET and improve the CP rate in women undergoing ART.

INTRODUCTION
Corneal biomechanics has been implicated in a variety of ocular diseases. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship between the glaucoma and corneal biomechanical properties, and exploring the value of corneal biomechanics in the diagnosis and follow-up of glaucoma diseases.
METHODS
We searched studies in PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science and clinicaltrials.gov., as of October 8, 2022. Only English studies were included, without publication time limit. We also searched the reference lists of published reviews. This meta-analysis was conducted with random-effects models, we used mean difference(MD) to evaluate the outcome, and the heterogeneity was assessed with the I statistic. Subgroup analyses were performed under the appearance of high heterogeneity. We used 11 items to describe the characteristics of included studies, publication bias was performed through the Egger's test. The quality assessment were evaluated by Newcastle-Ottawa Scale(NOS) items.
RESULTS
A total of 27 eligible studies were identified for data synthesis and assessment. The result of meta-analysis showed that in the comparison of included indicators, the corneal biomechanics values of glaucoma patients were statistically lower than those of normal subjects in a similar age range. The covered indicators included central corneal thickness(CCT) (MD = -8.34, 95% CI: [-11.74, -4.94]; P < 0.001), corneal hysteresis(CH)(MD = -1.54, 95% CI: [-1.88, -1.20]; P < 0.001), corneal resistance factor(CRF)( MD = -0.82, 95% CI: [-1.21, -0.44]; P < 0.001), and intraocular pressure(IOP)( corneal-compensated intraocular pressure (IOPcc): MD = 2.45, 95% CI: [1.51, 3.38]; P < 0.001); Goldmann-correlated intraocular pressure (IOPg): MD = 1.30, 95% CI: [0.41, 2.20]; P = 0.004), they all showed statistical difference. While the value of axial length(AL) did not show statistically different(MD = 0.13, 95% CI: [-0.24, 0.50]; P = 0.48).
CONCLUSION
Corneal biomechanics are associated with glaucoma. The findings can be useful for the design of glaucoma screening, treatment and prognosis.
