OBJECTIVES
to assess the effect of an educational intervention based on clinical simulation on nursing professionals' compliance with practices to prevent peripherally inserted central venous catheter-associated primary bloodstream infections in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
METHODS
a quasi-experimental study, with preand post-intervention assessment with a single group. The population consisted of 41 nursing professionals, with 31 observations being made before and after the intervention. Analyzes were performed using descriptive statistics and the McNemar non-parametric test. A significance level of 5% was adopted.
RESULTS
after the intervention, there was an increase in compliance with prevention practices of surgical antisepsis and professional hand hygiene, skin antisepsis with chlorhexidine, waiting for the time of the effect of alcoholic chlorhexidine and compliance with the sterile technique.
CONCLUSIONS
the educational intervention showed an effect on increasing compliance with catheter-associated infection prevention practices.

Sepsis is an abnormal immune response to infections and can trigger MODS. Despite the availability of advanced clinical techniques and monitoring methods, the mortality rate of the disease is still high, posing a heavy burden to patients and the whole society. Hence, the research on novel drugs and targets is particularly important. As a natural phyto-flavonoid, apigenin boasts anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-cancer, anti-viral, and anti-bacterial effects. Besides, experiments and animal models have also revealed the crucial role of apigenin in the treatment of infectious diseases and sepsis. In this context, this paper reviews the pharmacological activity and underlying mechanisms of action of apigenin in sepsis treatment and organ protection, as well as the potential apigenin-based therapeutic strategies against sepsis. Therefore, this review will shed new light on the scientific research and clinical treatment of sepsis.

Containment of transmission depends on the continued effectiveness of antimicrobials and of biocides used for topical antisepsis and surface disinfection. is known to disseminate antimicrobial resistance (AMR) through a large auxiliary genome made up of plasmids, transposons and integrons, enabling it to evade antimicrobial killing through the use of efflux systems and biofilm development. Because AMR mechanisms are also known to impart tolerance to biocides, AMR is frequently linked with biocide resistance (BR). However, despite extensive research on AMR, there is a gap in knowledge about BR and the extent to which AMR and BR mechanisms overlap remains debatable. The aim of this paper is to review and summarise the current knowledge on the determinants of BR in and highlight content areas that require further inquiry.

OBJECTIVE
Precesarean vaginal antisepsis can benefit pregnant women with ruptured membranes. However, in the general population, recent trials have shown mixed results in reducing postoperative infections. This study aimed to systematically review clinical trials and summarize the most suitable vaginal preparations for cesarean delivery in preventing postoperative infection.
DATA SOURCES
We searched PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, SinoMed databases, and the ClinicalTrials.gov clinical trials registry for randomized controlled trials and conference presentations (past 20 years, 2003-2022). Reference lists of previous meta-analyses were searched manually. In addition, we conducted subgroup analysis on the basis of whether the studies were conducted in developed or developing countries, whether the membranes were ruptured, and whether patients were in labor.
STUDY ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
We included randomized controlled trials comparing vaginal preparation methods for the prevention of postcesarean infection with each other or with negative controls.
METHODS
Two reviewers independently extracted data and assessed the risk of bias and the certainty of the evidence. The effectiveness of prevention strategies was assessed by frequentist-based network meta-analysis models. The outcomes were endometritis, postoperative fever, and wound infection.
RESULTS
A total of 23 trials including 10,026 cesarean delivery patients were included in this study. Vaginal preparation methods included 19 iodine-based disinfectants (1%, 5%, and 10% povidone-iodine; 0.4% and 0.5% iodophor) and 4 guanidine-based disinfectants (0.05% and 0.20% chlorhexidine acetate; 1% and 4% chlorhexidine gluconate). Overall, vaginal preparation significantly reduced the risks of endometritis (3.4% vs 8.1%; risk ratio, 0.41 [0.32-0.52]), postoperative fever (7.1% vs 11.4%; risk ratio, 0.58 [0.45-0.74]), and wound infection (4.1% vs 5.4%; risk ratio, 0.73 [0.59-0.90]). With regard to disinfectant type, iodine-based disinfectants (risk ratio, 0.45 [0.35-0.57]) and guanidine-based disinfectants (risk ratio, 0.22 [0.12-0.40]) significantly reduced the risk of endometritis, and iodine-based disinfectants reduced the risk of postoperative fever (risk ratio, 0.58 [0.44-0.77]) and wound infection (risk ratio, 0.75 [0.60-0.94]). With regard to disinfectant concentration, 1% povidone-iodine was most likely to simultaneously reduce the risks of endometritis, postoperative fever, and wound infection.
CONCLUSION
Preoperative vaginal preparation can significantly reduce the risk of postcesarean infectious diseases (endometritis, postoperative fever, and wound infection); 1% povidone-iodine has particularly outstanding effects.

Sepsis is a serious life-threatening health disorder with high morbidity and mortality rates that burden the world, but there is still a lack of more effective and reliable drug treatment. Liang-Ge-San (LGS) has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects and is a promising candidate for the treatment of sepsis. However, the anti-sepsis mechanism of LGS has still not been elucidated. In this study, a set of genes related to inflammatory chemotaxis pathways was downloaded from Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) and integrated with sepsis patient information from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database to perform differential gene expression analysis. Glycogen synthase kinase-3β (GSK-3β) was found to be the feature gene after these important genes were examined using the three algorithms Random Forest, support vector machine recursive feature elimination (SVM-REF), and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO), and then intersected with possible treatment targets of LGS found through the search. Upon evaluation, the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve of GSK-3β indicated an important role in the pathogenesis of sepsis. Immune cell infiltration analysis suggested that GSK-3β expression was associated with a variety of immune cells, including neutrophils and monocytes. Next, lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced zebrafish inflammation model and macrophage inflammation model was used to validate the mechanism of LGS. We found that LGS could protect zebrafish against a lethal challenge with LPS by down-regulating GSK-3β mRNA expression in a dose-dependent manner, as indicated by a decreased neutrophils infiltration and reduction of inflammatory damage. The upregulated mRNA expression of GSK-3β in LPS-induced stimulated RAW 264.7 cells also showed the same tendency of depression by LGS. Critically, LGS could induce M1 macrophage polarization to M2 through promoting GSK-3β inactivation of phosphorylation. The actuality of this research is determined by the intensification of new ways of processing woody biomass. This requires revealing the impact of various physicochemical factors on the thermal degradation of wood biopolymers. Boron-nitrogen surface modifiers are used for wood antisepsis and we decided to check their effect on flammability. The aim of the research was to evaluate the flame retardant effect of boron-nitrogen surface modifiers of wood in an inert atmosphere (nitrogen was used). The evaluation was carried out by thermal analysis of modified and the control pine wood samples. The thermal analysis included thermogravimetry, differential scanning calorimetry and kinetic parameters of thermal degradation. It was found that the flame retardant effect of boron-nitrogen wood surface modifiers was not significantly pronounced in the nitrogen atmosphere. The mechanism of the flame retardant effect of boron-nitrogen compounds is reduced to "shielding" of the surface and increasing the proportion of carbonized residue. On the basis of correlation-regression analysis of kinetic parameters of wood thermodestruction in a nitrogen atmosphere, mathematical models of activation energy dependence on conversion were obtained and substantiated. The developed models can be further applied to calculate the predicted value of wood activation energy in the nitrogen atmosphere at any conversion value.
