Review
The Mediterranean diet is a healthy dietary pattern whose main characteristic is olive oil consumption. The potential health benefits of olive oil have been extensively investigated and the present review provides the more recent clinical evidence supporting the positive impact of olive oil intake on human health. PubMed ( = 227) and Scopus ( = 308) databases were searched for published clinical studies in English over the past six years (October 2016 to December 2022), following key word searches of "olive oil" and "health". Major findings associated olive oil with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, improvement in endothelial function and lipid profile, prevention of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases, and modulation of the gut microbiota. These benefits are attributed to the nutritional composition of olive oil, which has a high content of monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) (oleic acid in particular) and minor compounds such as polyphenols (oleuropein and hydroxytyrosol). Although additional research continues to be required, the more recently generated evidence supports the potential of olive oil to contribute beneficially to health and to the prevention and management of a variety of non-communicable diseases, as a consequence of the synergism between its components' complexity.

A heavy oil activator is an amphiphilic polymer solution that contains hydrophilic and oleophobic groups. It can enhance heavy oil recovery efficiency. This paper studied the changes in the distribution of the remaining oil after activator flooding and the performance of heavy oil's active agent. Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, laser confocal microscopy, microscopic visualization, and CT scanning techniques were used to analyze crude oil utilization, and the distribution characteristics of the remaining oil during activator flooding of heavy oil. The results showed that the heavy oil activator solution presented a dense spatial network and good viscosification ability. The activator could reduce the interfacial tension of oil and water, disassemble the heavy components of dispersed heavy oil and reduce the viscosity of heavy oil. The utilization degree of the remaining oil in small and middle pores increased significantly after activator flooding, the remaining oil associated with membranous-like and clusterlike structures was utilized to a high degree, and the decline of light/heavy fraction in heavy oil slowed down. Heavy oil activator improved the swept volume and displacement efficiency of heavy oil, playing a significant role in improving the extent of recovery of heavy oil reservoirs.

Review
With population and economic development increasing worldwide, the public is increasingly concerned with the health benefits and nutritional properties of vegetable oils (VOs). In this review, the chemical composition and health-promoting benefits of 39 kinds of VOs were selected and summarized using Web of Science as the main bibliographic databases. The characteristic chemical compositions were analyzed from fatty acid composition, tocols, phytosterols, squalene, carotenoids, phenolics, and phospholipids. Health benefits including antioxidant activity, prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD), anti-inflammatory, anti-obesity, anti-cancer, diabetes treatment, and kidney and liver protection were examined according to the key components in representative VOs. Every type of vegetable oil has shown its own unique chemical composition with significant variation in each key component and thereby illustrated their own specific advantages and health effects. Therefore, different types of VOs can be selected to meet individual needs accordingly. For example, to prevent CVD, more unsaturated fatty acids and phytosterols should be supplied by consuming pomegranate seed oil, flaxseed oil, or rice bran oil, while coconut oil or perilla seed oil have higher contents of total phenolics and might be better choices for diabetics. Several oils such as olive oil, corn oil, cress oil, and rice bran oil were recommended for their abundant nutritional ingredients, but the intake of only one type of vegetable oil might have drawbacks. This review increases the comprehensive understanding of the correlation between health effects and the characteristic composition of VOs, and provides future trends towards their utilization for the general public's nutrition, balanced diet, and as a reference for disease prevention. Nevertheless, some VOs are in the early stages of research and lack enough reliable data and long-term or large consumption information of the effect on the human body, therefore further investigations will be needed for their health benefits.

Review
With the continuous technological innovation in the high-value utilization of rice bran byproducts, rice bran oil retains a higher concentration of beneficial components such as a well-balanced composition of fatty acids and abundant phytosterols. This makes it a highly nutritious and healthy vegetable oil. This review provides an overview of the advancements made in separating, purifying, and processing phytosterols in rice bran oil. The review also introduces techniques for assessing the stability of rice bran oil. Moreover, the review emphasizes the nutritional value of phytosterols found in rice bran oil, highlighting their various health benefits, including their anticancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, antibacterial, cholesterol-lowering, skin-protective, anti-obesity, anti-diabetic, neuroprotective, gastroprotective, and immune-enhancing effects. Attaining a comprehensive understanding of the research progress made in phytosterols derived from rice bran oil can offer valuable guidance for the efficient utilization of rice bran.

Review
Despite the broad range of interest and applications, controls on the surface charge of crude oil in aqueous solution remain poorly understood. The primary data source to understand the surface charge on crude oil comprises measurements of zeta potential on individual drops or emulsions obtained using the electrophoretic method (EPM). Here we (i) collate and review previous measurements of zeta potential on crude oil, (ii) compare and contrast the results, and (iii) report new measurements of zeta potential on crude oil wetting films and layers relevant to oil-saturated porous media, obtained using the streaming potential method (SPM). Results show that the zeta potential depends on electrolyte pH and the concentration of divalent ions Ca and Mg. Lower pH and higher concentration of these divalent ions yields more positive zeta potential. The isoelectric point (IEP) in simple NaCl electrolytes lies in the pH range 3-5. The IEP in simple CaCl and MgCl electrolytes can be expressed as pCa or pMg, respectively, and lies in the range 0-1. Close to the IEP, the zeta potential varies linearly with pH, pCa or pMg, suggesting simple Nernstian behaviour of the crude oil surface. The sensitivity of the zeta potential to pH, pCa and pMg decreases with increasing total ionic strength. The impact of pH, pCa and pMg on zeta potential varies significantly across different crude oils and differs from non-polar hydrocarbons. The potential for other multivalent ions to modify crude oil zeta potential has not been tested. Data for crude oil wetting films and layers, obtained using the SPM and strongly oil-wet porous substrates in which the solid surfaces are coated with the crude oil of interest, are comparable to those obtained using emulsions and the EPM, suggesting that the controls on zeta potential on crude oil are the same irrespective of whether the oil forms droplets or wetting layers. The literature data reviewed here, along with new measured data, provide important insight into the effect of pH, and the concentration of divalent ions, on the zeta potential of crude oil in aqueous solution. They demonstrate relationships between ion concentration and zeta potential that are observed irrespective of crude oil composition. They also show that the crude oil composition plays a role, yet no consistent trends are observed between zeta potential and commonly measured bulk oil properties, possibly because bulk properties do not reflect the concentrations of interfacially active species in crude oil that may impact the development of surface charge. Moreover, data are extremely scarce for complex, high ionic strength electrolytes or at elevated temperature. The data reviewed and reported here have broad relevance to many engineering and industrial activities involving crude oil.
