Zirconia-reinforced lithium silicate (ZLS) ceramic is a new innovative dental material with unique a chemical composition that is designed to combine harmoniously with the appropriate optical properties of lithium disilicate and the enhanced mechanical strength of zirconia. A thorough understanding of ZLS materials is essential for both clinicians and dental technicians. At present, the mechanical behavior and optical properties of the ZLS ceramic system have not been extensively researched, and there is still a lack of consensus regarding the fabrication process and clinical behavior of ZLS all-ceramic restorations. The aim of the present study was to present a selection of comprehensive information concerning zirconia-reinforced lithium silicate ceramics and their optical and mechanical properties, as well as to assess data regarding cementation procedures and clinical outcomes for ZLS all-ceramic restorations. Three electronic databases (PubMed, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library) were used for the research by two independent reviewers. The search was limited to articles published in the English language, as well as clinical and in vitro studies of color and studies on mechanical behavior and the cementation procedures of ZLS restorations. The exclusion criteria comprised abstracts, questionnaire-based studies, case reports, literature reviews, and studies that were not available in English. Zirconia-reinforced lithium-silicate-based ceramic presents a unique and complex microstructure that increases mechanical resistance but decreases aesthetic appearance, especially its translucency, due to tetragonal zirconia content. A material's thickness, the color of the underlying tooth structure, and the resin cement shade are important factors that influence the final shade and aesthetic appearance of ZLS restorations. Mechanical properties, which are defined by the fracture toughness, flexural strength, elastic modulus, and hardness of ZLS ceramic are higher compared to feldspathic, lithium disilicate, and hybrid ceramics, as well as resin nanoceramics; however, they are lower than translucent or high-translucency zirconia. Acid etching, sandblasting, and laser etching represent the most used methods to prepare the ZLS restoration surfaces for proper bonding procedures.

PURPOSE
To evaluate the influence of implant scan body (ISB) design (height, diameter, geometry, material, and retention system) on the accuracy of digital implant scans.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
A literature search was completed in five databases: PubMed/Medline, Scopus, Embase, World of Science, and Cochrane. A manual search was also conducted. Studies reporting the evaluation of ISB design on the accuracy of digital scans obtained by using IOSs were included. Two investigators evaluated the studies independently by applying the Joanna Briggs Institute critical appraisal. A third examiner was consulted to resolve any lack of consensus. Articles were classified based on the ISB features of height, geometry, material, and retention system.
RESULTS
Twenty articles were included. Among the reviewed studies, 11 investigations analyzed the influence of different ISB geometries, 1 study assessed the impact of ISB diameter, 4 studies investigated the effect of ISB splinting, 2 articles evaluated ISB height, and 2 studies focused on the effect of ISB material on scan accuracy. In addition, 8 studies involved ISBs fabricated with different materials (1- and 2-piece polyetheretherketone and 1-piece titanium ISBs), and all of the reviewed articles tested screw-retained ISBs, except for 3 in vitro studies.
CONCLUSIONS
The findings did not enable concrete conclusions regarding the optimal ISB design, whether there is a relationship between IOS technology and a specific ISB design, or the clinical condition that maximizes intraoral scanning accuracy. Research efforts are needed to identify the optimal ISB design and its possible relationship with the IOS selected for acquiring intraoral digital implant scans.

PURPOSE
The purpose of this study was to provide sufficient information on the clinical outcome of zirconia implants, mainly observing the survival rate and marginal bone loss (MBL), with a minimum follow-up of 12 months, to verify the adoption of ceramics as a rational possibility for dental implants.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
A systematic electronic search through the PubMed (MEDLINE) and EMBASE databases was performed by two independent reviewers to identify clinical studies published between January 2005 and April 2019 containing a minimum of 10 patients per study and 12 months of follow-up after functional loading. References from the selected articles were manually reviewed for further studies.
RESULTS
From the initial 1,225 articles retrieved, 19 met all the inclusion criteria. The marginal bone remodeling accounted for mean losses of 0.8 mm (95% CI: 0.60 to 1.00 mm) and 1.01 mm (95% CI: 0.72 to 1.29 mm) at 1 year and 2 years postloading, respectively. The failure rate of 6.8% was calculated for a mean follow-up period of 2.75 years, where the prevalence of early failure, late failure, and implant fracture was 3.4%, 1.7%, and 1.7%, respectively. The meta-analysis associated with the survival rate of one- and two-piece zirconia dental implants was hindered due to the lack of confidence interval or standard deviation information in most of the included articles.
CONCLUSION
Zirconia implants presented MBL values consistent with the standard in the global consensus, high survival rates, and considerable clinical results at short-term observation periods following prosthetic delivery.

Literature on edge chipping test applied to dental materials and structures has been systematically reviewed with regard to the evaluation methods and parameters used.
DATA
A systematic search of the literature retrieved 3484 relevant studies. After removing duplicates, 1848 records were screened by titles and abstracts and 1797 were excluded; 51 papers were assessed full text for eligibility. Twenty papers were included in this study and they were organized according to the dental materials and structures tested as follows: 2 studies on human tooth, 9 on dental ceramics, 5 on polymer-based composites, and 4 studies evaluated both ceramic and polymer-based materials.

MEDLINE/PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science databases were searched up to June 2019 without restriction on date and language.
STUDY SELECTION
In vitro studies using edge chipping test on dental materials and structures were included.
CONCLUSIONS
Different methods have been used for edge chipping test, regardless of reported parameters. There is significant evidence that edge chipping test is a relevant approach to predict chipping behavior of dental materials and tooth tissues because chips produced from most edge chipping studies are similar to clinically reported chipping failures.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
In spite of a digital workflow playing an important role in the intraoral prosthetic rehabilitation of patients with head and neck cancer, information about how it has been implemented and its clinical implications is sparse.
PURPOSE
The purpose of this systematic review was to evaluate the use of a digital workflow in the intraoral prosthetic rehabilitation of patients with head and neck cancer by analyzing the frequency and type of the digital procedures used.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines were followed. The following terms were applied for the search conducted in the MEDLINE-PubMed, Cochrane, and SciELO databases: (prosthesis OR dental OR rehabilitation) AND (digital OR CAD-CAM OR intraoral scanner) AND (Cancer OR head neck). Articles that specified data on intraoral prosthetic treatment and analyzed the use of a digital workflow in the different prosthetic phases such as digital scanning and computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) in patients with head and neck cancer were included. Data from the frequency and type of digital procedures were analyzed.
RESULTS
Thirteen articles were included, and all had incorporated CAD-CAM techniques in at least 1 of the prosthetic treatment stages (scanning, design, and/or fabrication). Only 1 patient was rehabilitated by using a completely digital workflow. The most frequent prosthetic treatment was an obturator (82.6%). Regarding the image capture method, the most used method was cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) (60.9%).
CONCLUSIONS
Most reports described the partial use of a digital workflow in the intraoral prosthetic rehabilitation of patients treated for head and neck cancer. A digital workflow is used for specific stages but not for the entire process. More studies are needed to evaluate digital systems, ideally comparing parameters with the conventional method, and to determine whether this technique has more relevant clinical implications.

OBJECTIVES
This review aimed to summarize contemporary evidence related to dental composite resin derived from rice husk biowaste and its potential future advancement. This review paper included the techniques for synthesis, characterization, and preparation of rice husk composite resin. Focus was also given to the flexural strength and modulus, compressive strength, wear rate, hardness, surface roughness, color stability, polymerization shrinkage, degree of conversion, and their application onto root canal treated teeth.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
A search of English peer-reviewed literature (January 1960-February 2021) was conducted from electronic databases (PubMed Central, Cochrane, LILACS, Science Direct, Web of Science, SIGLE, EMBASE, EBSCO, Medline, and Google Scholar).
RESULTS
11 articles and a book section were finally selected for qualitative analysis. Studies concluded that the physicomechanical properties and the color stability of rice husk dental composites showed comparable results to conventional dental composites. Incorporation of zirconia nanopowder into rice husk dental composite increased the compressive strength and hardness values, associated with lower shrinkage, a high degree of conversion, and improved fracture strength when applied on root canal treated teeth.
CONCLUSIONS
Due to its low cost, eco-friendliness, and acceptable clinical performances, rice husk dental composite resin can be considered as an alternative to conventional composites.
CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE
Dental composite resin derived from rice husk silica demonstrated excellent performance, which could potentially substitute currently available composite resins. This review will give new insight to clinicians and researchers on the usage of natural biowaste mass in the field of dental restorative materials.

To study the time and costs involved with computer-assisted versus non-computer-assisted implant planning and placement.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
Based on the PICO question, "In patients receiving dental implants, is computer-assisted implant planning and surgery (CAIPS) compared to non-computer-assisted implant planning and surgery (non-CAIPS) beneficial in terms of treatment related costs and time involved?", a search path was created to perform an electronic search in the databases PubMed, PubMed Central, EMBASE, and Cochrane. The publication period of eligible publications extended from 01.01.2005 to 04.05.2020. Four independent reviewers reviewed the literature to identify studies that met the eligibility inclusion criteria. A further manual search of articles was performed, and gray literature was excluded. Corresponding authors of potentially eligible manuscripts were contacted for further information.
RESULTS
Of the 1354 retrieved titles after the search were screened. Thirty-one articles have been identified to read the full text, resulting in four articles to be analyzed for the present review all of which were RCTs. In total, 182 partially and completely edentulous patients were treated with 416 implants following either non-computer-assisted or computer-assisted implant planning and surgery to determine the duration of the single working steps and the financial aspects of the different procedures.
CONCLUSIONS
When evaluating the time and costs involved with the diagnostic and planning procedures in computer-assisted implant planning and surgery workflow protocols, one can summarize that these are higher than in the non-computer-assisted workflow protocols. The time involved with the procedures appears to be the driving factor when it comes to economic considerations. On the basis of the conclusions, also the time for the prosthetic restoration should be taken into account.

Adhesion of veneering porcelain to cobalt-chromium dental alloys processed with casting, milling, and additive manufacturing methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
Selective laser melting (SLM) additive manufacturing (AM) technologies provide an alternative to conventional casting and milling procedures in fabricating metal-ceramic dental prostheses. However, the quality of porcelain bond strength to the SLM AM cobalt-chromium (Co-Cr) metal framework of a dental restoration is unclear.
PURPOSE
The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to identify in vitro studies that reported the porcelain bond strength to SLM AM Co-Cr dental metal alloys and compare the porcelain bond strength values to cast, milled, and additively manufactured Co-Cr dental alloys.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
An electronic systematic review was performed in different databases: MEDLINE/PubMed, EMBASE, World of Science, Cochrane, and Scopus. A manual search was also conducted. Studies that reported the porcelain bond strength to SLM Co-Cr metal alloys and in the English language were included. Two investigators evaluated the quality assessment of the studies by applying the JBI critical appraisal checklist for quasi-experimental studies (nonrandomized experimental studies). A third investigator was consulted to resolve lack of consensus. Two subgroups were created based on the test used, 3-point bend and shear bond strength tests. The porcelain bond strength of cast, milled, and AM Co-Cr dental alloys were compared. The I2 statistic and its associated P value were used to assess the heterogeneity between studies. The Eger test was used for determining significance of the funnel pots.
RESULTS
A total of 216 studies were collected from the electronic and manual searches. After independently evaluating the titles and abstracts by the reviewers, 26 articles were identified. Three of these were excluded after full-text revision. The porcelain bond strength comparison between the cast and AM alloys for the 3-point bend subgroup revealed a significant result for overall effect (P<.001) favoring the SLM method with considerable heterogeneity (I2=83%, P<.001). Furthermore, the porcelain bond strength comparison between cast and milled alloys for the shear bond strength subgroup revealed a significant test for overall effect (P=.04) favoring milled procedures with a nonsignificant unimportant heterogeneity (I2= 0%, P<.47) and for the 3-point bend subgroup (P<.001) favoring milled specimens with a significant considerable heterogeneity (I2=79%, P<.001).
CONCLUSIONS
The metal manufacturing method had no effect on the porcelain bond strength to Co-Cr dental metal alloys.

The best protocol to restore endodontically treated teeth is still unclear, with many factors to be considered, including the selection and necessity of a post, the type of coronal restoration, the amount of remaining coronal structure, and the type of luting agent.
PURPOSE
The purpose of this systematic review was to assess the restorative preferences for endodontically treated teeth between dentists and dental students.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
Survey studies, written in English, of dentists and dental students, which evaluated the use of intracanal posts and other restorative options for endodontically treated teeth, were selected. Searches were performed in the PubMed and SCOPUS databases without time restriction. Screening and data extraction were performed by 2 researchers independently. A standardized outline was used to extract the data (questions related to the theme and the response rate of each question on the survey), and the risk of bias was assessed. Descriptive analysis was performed of the collected information.
RESULTS
Twenty-five articles were included. Most dentists who answered the surveys reported the time since graduation as 1 to 20 years (40%), and 44% were specialists. The most reported choices concerning the type of posts used were prefabricated posts (45.8%), cast metal posts (16.7%), and both posts (16.7%). The cast metal posts were cited more frequently in surveys published between 1994 and 2010, whereas prefabricated posts, both metal and glass fiber ones, were cited between 2006 and 2019. The preferred luting agent for intracanal posts was resin-based (47%). These choices seem to have been influenced by time and by the level of postgraduate training.
CONCLUSIONS
Restorative preferences related to posts have changed over time, from the use of cast posts to prefabricated ones or the use of both posts and seem to be influenced by experience and postgraduate training.

: Porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) prostheses are considered the gold standard for the replacement of missing teeth, however, these have several drawbacks. Therefore, lithium disilicate (LDS) prostheses have been introduced for the construction of fixed crowns and bridges. The aim of this systematic review was to ascertain the long-term survival of LDS fixed prostheses in comparison to other materials. : The focused question was 'In patients who have undergone prosthodontic treatment (participants), what are the overall survival rate of lithium disilicate (LDS) crowns and fixed bridges; and how do they relate to survival rates of non-LDS similar restoration are the survival and com-plication rates (outcomes) of LDS-based fixed prostheses with complete coverage (intervention) higher or lower when compared to non-LDS materials (controls)?'. An electronic search was conducted in PubMED/Medline, EMBASE, Google Scholar, and ClinicalTrials.gov for articles published between January 2006 and August 2022 using appropriate MeSH terms and keywords. The following types of studies were included: (1) All types of prospective clinical studies; (2) Clinical studies focusing on the survival of fixed LDS bridges and crowns; (3) Studies using natural teeth with complete coverage as abutment for fixed LDS bridges and crowns; and (4) Studies in English. The following studies were excluded: (1) Laboratory/in vitro studies and studies on LDS prostheses with no description of outcomes or survival rates; (2) Commentaries; (3) Letters to the editor; (4) Reviews; and (5) Internal data from manufacturers. The data from included studies were extracted and the risk of bias was assessed within the studies using ROBINS-I. : A total of 25 studies were included in this systematic review. The overall 5-year and 10-year survival rates were of 95-100% and 71.4-100%, respectively. Generally, three-unit bridges had a significantly lower survival rate over 5 and 10 years compared to single-unit crowns. Overall, the risk of bias in the included studies was moderate. : The LDS-based complete coverage prostheses have a survival rate ranging between 48.6% and 100%. Furthermore, due to the lack of comparative studies, the long-term function and survival of LDS prostheses compared to other material prosthesis (PFM and ZrO) is debatable.
