BACKGROUND
Although laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair was described about 30 years ago and advantages of the technique have been demonstrated, the utilization of this approach has not been what we would expect. Some reasons may be the need for surgeons to understand the posterior anatomy of the groin from a new vantage point, as well as to acquire advanced laparoscopic skills. Recently, however, the introduction of a robotic approach has dramatically increased the adoption of minimally invasive techniques for inguinal hernia repair.
METHODS
Important recent contributions to this evolution have been the establishment of a new concept known as the critical view of the Myopectineal Orifice (MPO) and the description of a new way of understanding the posterior view of the antomy of the groin (inverted Y and the five triangles). In this paper, we describe 10 rules for a safe MIS inguinal hernia repair (TAPP, TEP, ETEP, RTAPP) that combines these two new concepts in a unique way.
CONCLUSIONS
As the critical view of safety has made laparoscopic cholecystectomy safer, we feel that following our ten rules based on understanding the anatomy of the posterior groin as defined by zones and essential triangles and the technical steps to achieve the critical view of the MPO will foster the goal of safe MIS hernia repair, no matter which minimally invasive technique is employed.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW
There are a variety of treatment options for men with symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH); transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) remains the gold standard surgical treatment. The field continues to evolve with the introduction of new energy and laser technologies, increasing adoption of enucleation techniques, in addition to the advent of minimally invasive surgical technologies (MIST) that enable office-based treatments. The choice in surgical management has become very nuanced depending on a variety of patient and anatomic factors. There continues to be high success rates for surgical treatment of BPH; however, the risk profiles vary across the various surgical treatments. We sought to evaluate contemporary series and summarize the experience of complications associated with BPH treatment and management of these complications.
RECENT FINDINGS
A comprehensive literature review was performed, and identified 79 manuscripts, published between 2005 and 2021 characterizing the diagnosis and management of complications following BPH surgery. Commonly cited issues included bleeding, ureteral orifice injury, bladder neck injury, rectal injury, TURP syndrome, bladder neck contractures, urethral stricture disease, refractory OAB symptoms, and complications unique to new modalities of treatment. The practicing urologist has multiple surgical options to choose from in treating patients with symptomatic BPH. The surgical management of BPH is generally well tolerated with high objective success rates that allow for significant improvement in urinary quality of life. It is critical to understand the potential complications associated with these various treatment options, which will enable trainees and practicing urologists to better counsel patients and manage these potential complications.

BACKGROUND
Save for the contribution of Charles McBurney, who described his eponymous point and the appendicectomy incision, the history of appendicectomy is largely unknown among the medical profession. This review traces the history from the first anatomical depiction of the appendix to the development of open appendicectomy and the recent minimally invasive and non-operative methods.
METHODS
Historical articles, monographs and books containing anatomical descriptions of the vermiform appendix and reports of appendicitis and its surgical treatment were retrieved after searching the PubMed, Google Scholar and Embase databases from their inception to 31 March 2022.
RESULTS
The first inadvertent appendicectomy was performed during an operation for a groin hernia by Cookesley in 1731, and Mestivier was the first to drain a right iliac fossa abscess, due to appendicitis, in 1757. Krönlein performed the first appendicectomy for acute appendicitis in 1884 but his patient died. The first successful appendicectomy for acute appendicitis leading to patient survival was by Morton in 1887. In 1976, Wirschafter and Kaufman performed an inadvertent colonoscopic appendicectomy and, in 1980, Semm carried out the first laparoscopic appendicectomy. The first appendicectomy via a natural orifice (transgastric) appendicectomy was by Rao and Reddy in 2004.
CONCLUSION
This historical review charts the development of surgical knowledge concerning the management of appendicitis, from the first anatomical drawings of the appendix and descriptions of appendicitis to the development of surgical and conservative treatments up to the present day. It also corrects some inaccuracies of attribution in previous historical reviews.

In the study and practice of neurosurgery at the "Federico II" University of Naples, a central role has always been reserved for anatomy. Based on worldwide cooperation, the meaning of anatomical research has evolved from methodological investigation to an educational and communication tool. The contribution of our school to the anatomical data on the sellar region has been chronologically reviewed in the present report. The path that brought us to focus on the endoscopic endonasal anatomy has been presented, together with the evolution of anatomical investigation. The confidence achieved with decades of cadaveric laboratory studies has changed the profile of our anatomical investigations. The quantification and comparison became essential in these studies owing to their effect on surgical application and advanced imaging techniques entered the field of anatomical dissection. Anatomy at our school is an evolving science. Our efforts in anatomical scientific publications and organization of participatory courses have made us a center of reference for endoscopic endonasal surgery and have allowed us to share our knowledge with other specialists in this field.

GERD is a spectrum disorder, and treatment should be individualized to the patient's anatomic alterations. Trans-oral incisionless fundoplication (TIF 2.0) is an endoscopic procedure which reduces EGJ distensibility, thereby decreasing tLESRs, and also creates a 3-cm high pressure zone at the distal esophagus in the configuration of a flap valve. As it produces a partial fundoplication with a controlled valve diameter, gas can still escape from the stomach, minimizing the side-effect of gas-bloat. Herein we discuss the rationale, mechanism of action, patient selection, step-by-step procedure, safety and efficacy data, it's use with concomitant laparoscopic hernia repair, and future emerging indications.

Talpid moles and spotted hyenas have become the paradigms of anatomical and behavioral female masculinization. Females of many mole species develop ovotestes that produce testosterone, show external genitalia that resemble that of males, and close their vaginal orifice after every estrus, and female spotted hyenas lack an external vaginal orifice and develop a pseudoscrotum and a large pseudopenis through which they urinate, mate, and give birth. We review current knowledge about several significant aspects of the biology and evolution of these females, including () their specific study methods; () their unique anatomical features, and how these peculiarities influence certain physiological functions; and () the role that steroid hormones as well as genetic and environmental factors may have in urogenital system development, aggressive behavior, and social dominance. Nevertheless, both mole and hyena females are exceptionally efficient mothers, so their peculiar genitalia should not call into question their femininity.

OBJECTIVE
The objective of this work was to anatomically locate the urethral orifice in female minipigs and describe the use of video laryngoscopes in urethral catheterization.
METHODS
Urethral catheterization guided by a video laryngoscope was attempted in 16 adult female Bama minipigs. The anatomical location of urethral orifices, operating time and complications (mucosal edema and bleeding in the vaginal vestibule, and the numbers of red blood cells (RBCs) and white blood cells (WBCs) in mid-stream urine samples) were recorded.
RESULTS
The anatomical location of the urethral orifice: the depth of the urethral orifice in female Bama minipigs was 4.2 ± 1.2 cm; all the urethral orifices were covered by mucosal folds of the vaginal vestibule. In the supine position, the orifice of the urethra at 9-12 and 1-3 o'clock accounted for 6.25%, 6.25%, 18.75%, 50%, 12.5%, 6.25% and 6.25%, respectively. All animals were successfully catheterized and the operating time was 9.0 (6.0-12.8) min. Complications: no bleeding in the vaginal vestibule was observed; the incidence of mucosal edema was 12.5%, all of which were mild; of urine samples collected 1 h after catheterization, 12.5% were found to contain RBCs and no RBCs were detected 6 h after catheterization; no WBCs were detected 1 h or 6 h after catheterization.
CONCLUSIONS
The urethral orifice of female minipigs was located deep in the vagina at variable clock directions and was unexceptionally covered by mucosal folds. Applying a video laryngoscope in urethral catheterization allowed quick and accurate exposure of the urethral orifice and minimal operational injury in female minipigs.
