The optic flow, i.e., the displacement of retinal images of objects in the environment induced by self-motion, is an important source of spatial information, especially for fast-flying insects. Spatial information over a wide range of distances, from the animal's immediate surroundings over several hundred metres to kilometres, is necessary for mediating behaviours, such as landing manoeuvres, collision avoidance in spatially complex environments, learning environmental object constellations and path integration in spatial navigation. To facilitate the processing of spatial information, the complexity of the optic flow is often reduced by active vision strategies. These result in translations and rotations being largely separated by a saccadic flight and gaze mode. Only the translational components of the optic flow contain spatial information. In the first step of optic flow processing, an array of local motion detectors provides a retinotopic spatial proximity map of the environment. This local motion information is then processed in parallel neural pathways in a task-specific manner and used to control the different components of spatial behaviour. A particular challenge here is that the distance information extracted from the optic flow does not represent the distances unambiguously, but these are scaled by the animal's speed of locomotion. Possible ways of coping with this ambiguity are discussed.

Trauma has emerged as the leading cause of death during pregnancy. Penetrating abdominal trauma in pregnancy requires a rigorous clinical evaluation to establish a complete assessment of obstetric and non-obstetric lesions. In the case of major trauma, treatment is essentially carried out in a trauma centre with a multidisciplinary team to improve maternal and fetal prognosis. This is a case of a 20-year-old primigravid woman, 33 weeks and 4 days age of gestation, who was admitted for impaled foreign body. She was brought to the emergency department for a penetrating wound of the chest and abdomen after being accidentally impaled by a metre-long, inch-thick steel rod. Emergency laparotomy, caesarean section and thoracotomy were performed. The aim of this report is to discuss the assessment, management and role of the multidisciplinary team in the management of a pregnant trauma patient.

PURPOSE
In this study, we compared clinically relevant biochemical properties of each chelator for pH, osmolarity, and calcium chelation potential.
METHODS
In total, 0.2 M K 2 EDTA and K 3 EDTA (BD vacutainer tubes by Becton, Dickinson and Company) and Na 2 EDTA (Sigma Aldrich) solutions were made. The pH of each solution was measured (Mettler Toledo pH meter), and the theoretical osmolarity was calculated. Next, we determined the calcium chelation potential of each EDTA salt by titrating it with 10 μmol of calcium hydroxyapatite or CaCl 2 containing Patton-Reeder colorimetric indicator. Statistical significance was analyzed using analysis of variance.
RESULTS
The 0.2 M solutions of Na 2 EDTA, K 2 EDTA, and K 3 EDTA have pH values of 4.43, 5.71, and 9.191 and theoretical osmolarities of 600, 600, and 800 mOsm/L, respectively. Calcium chelation ability was similar among all 3 solutions: 0.94 to 0.98 mol of EDTA was needed to fully chelate 1 mol calcium ions of CaCl 2 ( P = 0.296), 0.100 to 0.108 mol of EDTA for 1 mol calcium ions of the hydroxyapatite aqueous suspension ( P = 0.296), and 0.992 to 0.996 mol for 1 mol calcium ions of hydroxyapatite in acidic solution ( P = 0.178). Compared with the clinical standard of 3% (30 mg/mL) Na 2 EDTA, approximately 3.3% (33 mg/mL) K 2 EDTA and 3.6% (36 mg/mL) K 3 EDTA are needed to chelate an equivalent amount of calcium.
CONCLUSIONS
In this article, we provide clinically relevant biochemical properties of 2 alternatives to Na 2 EDTA and demonstrate comparable calcium chelation ability among all 3 solutions. In situations where sterile sources of Na 2 EDTA are unavailable, potassium EDTA may provide a convenient and equally effective method of treatment for band keratopathy.

OBJECTIVES
This study aims to identify the pH level and subsequently the erosive potential of beverages including their sugar content.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
Beverages were purchased from a local convenience store, and some of the beverages were freshly prepared. The acidity of each beverage was identified using a calibrated pH meter. The pH was obtained in triplicate, and the results were expressed in average values with standard deviations. The pH values were then used to determine their erosive potential and the sugar content was obtained from the packaging and recorded.
RESULTS
A total of 167 beverages were purchased and categorized. The beverages were categorized into 15 groups: milk tea, hawker drinks, instant drinks, fresh fruit juices, milk, energy drinks, designer coffee, soda, canned drinks, cultured milk, vegetable juices, cordials, bottled fruit drinks, tea, and mineral water. The pH value ranges from 2.65 to 7.85. Seven beverages (4.2%) were classified as extremely erosive, 53 beverages (31.1%) were classified as erosive, and 36 beverages (21.6%) were classified as minimally erosive. In total, 57.5% of the beverages were potentially erosive, and most of the soda and energy drinks were erosive. The highest sugar content per 100 g was BOH Teh Tarik Original (71.8 g), whereas the highest sugar content per serving was Carabao energy drink (10.8 g).
CONCLUSION
High sugar content and low acidic content of beverages could have a negative impact on the dentition. An intervention is required from a public health perspective to regulate the consumption of sweetened and flavored beverages.

Water quality monitoring allows communities to achieve sustainable management of water resources, which is crucial for life-supporting processes. Water quality is determined by measuring chemical, physical, and biological parameters, requiring sophisticated meters and trained specialists to perform the measurement. However, in low-income communities, water quality is determined by using human senses-smell, color, and taste-since meter acquisition is limited by costs and most people do not know how to monitor water quality. Therefore, accessible technology is necessary to empower communities to have a sustainable lifestyle. In this paper, we present the design and implementation of PortAqua, a 2-parameter water quality meter (WQM), to promote training on water quality measurement. Using basic electronic components, PortAqua is capable of measuring pH with an error of 0.4, and conductivity with an error of 33% at 85 µS cm, and 8.7% at 1413 µS cm. To demonstrate its preliminary effectiveness as a WQM and its science communication capabilities, the meter has been used in a hands-on workshop with undergraduate and graduate students. During the workshop, attendees participated in a short lecture about water quality measurement techniques and local regulations. Then, they collected water samples from a local source, measured the samples using PortAqua, and discussed the results based on the concepts and regulations. The workshop's effectiveness was evaluated through pre- and post-assessments which revealed increased knowledge of water quality regulations, measurement, and parameters at the end of the activity.

Non-invasive techniques are needed to enable an integrated understanding of plant metabolic responses to environmental stresses. Raman spectroscopy is one such technique, allowing non-destructive chemical characterisation of samples in situ and in vivo and resolving the chemical composition of plant material at scales from microns to metres. Here, we review Raman band assignments of pigments, structural and non-structural carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and secondary metabolites in plant material and consider opportunities this technology raises for studies in vascular plant physiology.

Estimating evapotranspiration (ET) has been one of the most critical research areas in agriculture because of water scarcity, the growing population, and climate change. The accurate estimation and mapping of ET are necessary for crop water management. Traditionally, researchers use water balance, soil moisture, weighing lysimeters, or an energy balance approach, such as Bowen ratio or eddy covariance towers to estimate ET. However, these ET methods are point-specific or area-weighted measurements and cannot be extended to a large scale. With the advent of satellite technology, remote sensing images became able to provide spatially distributed measurements. However, the spatial resolution of multispectral satellite images is in the range of meters, tens of meters, or hundreds of meters, which is often not enough for crops with clumped canopy structures, such as trees and vines. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) can mitigate these spatial and temporal limitations. Lightweight cameras and sensors can be mounted on the UAVs and take high-resolution images. Unlike satellite imagery, the spatial resolution of the UAV images can be at the centimeter-level. UAVs can also fly on-demand, which provides high temporal imagery. In this study, the authors examined different UAV-based approaches of ET estimation at first. Models and algorithms, such as mapping evapotranspiration at high resolution with internalized calibration (METRIC), the two-source energy balance (TSEB) model, and machine learning (ML) are analyzed and discussed herein. Second, challenges and opportunities for UAVs in ET estimation are also discussed, such as uncooled thermal camera calibration, UAV image collection, and image processing. Then, the authors share views on ET estimation with UAVs for future research and draw conclusive remarks.

Wood bottom and fly ashes were added to the anaerobic digestate using sulfuric, hydrochloric, nitric, and lactic acids, as pH conditioners and sorption activating agents. Minimum (pH of zero-point charge), mild, and severe acidification of the samples were tested. The solid-liquid separation achieved was accounted visually and with the measurement of the masses of water-soluble extract and water-insoluble material isolated. The average mass of the blend was 36.61 ± 0.68 g, including the extractant agent that was prepared with the commercial acids and ultrapure milli-Q water. During the 144-h incubation of the mixtures at 20 °C and 0.17 x g, the shares of the solid and liquid were determined by centrifugation of the destructive samples at 3,130.40 x g for 5 minutes and 3-µm filtration of the supernatant. Before weighing the water-insoluble material, both the pellet that remained in the tube and the filter cake were dried at 70 °C until reaching constant weight. There was a significant increase in the amount of water-insoluble phase of the wood bottom ash due to the activation with lactic and sulfuric acids. The treatment of the wood fly ash and the agrowaste digestate with the hydrochloric acid showed an increase in the formation of water-soluble extract, in direct relation with the acidic pH of the blend. The characterization of the pH of the WS extract was performed with a Mettler Toledo Seven Compact S220 pH/Ion meter. The conditions of this process can be further optimized and each of the fractions can be characterized, in terms of nutrient content, to confirm the efficiency of the separation. More complex and ambitious processes can be designed for combining the wood ash and the anaerobic digestate. The performance of this treatment involving wood ashes and commercial acids can be extrapolated to other type of organic manures with a moisture content of approximately 95%, to improve their management in terms of reducing the cost of storage and transportation for land application below £5 per tonne.

BACKGROUND
There is little information about vitamin D (Vit D) deficiency in patients with pulmonary hypertension (PH). The objective of this study was: 1) compare Vit D levels between patients with PH, left ventricular failure (LVF) and healthy subjects (HS); 2) correlate, in patients with PH, Vit D levels with prognosis-related variables, such as the 6-min walk test (6MWT).
METHODS
Vitamin D levels were measured in a cross-sectional study in 126 patients from one of three groups: patients with PH (n = 53), patients with LVF (n = 42) and healthy subjects (n = 31). In all groups, 8-h fasting blood samples were obtained in the morning. In the PH and the LVF group, functional class (WHO criteria), metres covered in the 6MWT and echocardiographic parameters were analysed. In the PH group, plasma N terminal pro B type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) level was analysed and a complete haemodynamic evaluation by right heart catheterisation was made.
RESULTS
Mean Vit D levels were lower in PH than in both other groups (ng/ml, mean ± SD): PH 19.25 ± 10, LVF 25.68 ± 12, HS 28.8 ± 12 (PH vs LVF p = 0.017, PH vs HS p = 0.001 and HS vs LVF p = 0.46). Vit D deficiency prevalence was higher in PH as compared to the other groups (PH 53.8%, LVF 45.2%, HS 25%, p = 0.01). Patients with PH in functional class (FC; WHO criteria) III-IV had higher Vit D deficiency prevalence than those in FC I-II (86.7% vs 40.5%, p = 0.003). There was a significant linear correlation between the 6MWT and Vit D levels in PH (p < 0.01), but not in LVF (p = 0.69).
CONCLUSIONS
Vit D levels were lower in patients with PH as compared to patients with LVF and HS and correlated directly with 6-min walk distance.

Dental caries is a major non-communicable disease of public health concern caused due to freely available dietary sugars. We aimed to compare the sugar content and erosive potential with duration of use and drug classes of orodispersible tablets (ODTs). We conducted an evaluation of the total sugar content (TSC), Potential of Hydrogen (pH), solubility, and Titratable Acidity (TA) of commonly prescribed 62 ODTs. TA was measured by titrating the samples with known amount of. 0.1N sodium hydroxide (NaOH) with phenolphthalein indicator and pH was determined by digital pH meter. TSC was evaluated by phenol sulphuric acid. Solubility was assessed by filtration. Out of the 62 ODTs, majority were Antimicrobials (n=30). One-quarter of the ODTs (26%) had a mean pH below ≤5.5. No significant difference was seen in the mean pH with respect to different drug classes (p=0.082) and duration of use of ODTs. A significant difference was seen in the mean percentage solubility with respect to drug classes (p<0.001). Antimicrobials had the least percentage of solubility as compared to other drug classes. Antiemetics and proton pump inhibitors (24.33 ± 17.34) had significantly higher mean percentage sugar content than Antimicrobials (23.25 ± 17.16). No significant difference was seen in the mean TSC with respect to various drug classes (p=0.718) and between the duration of use of drugs (P=0.568) respectively. No significant difference was seen in the mean percentage TA with respect to drug class (p=0.123) and duration of use of drugs (p=0.424). Overall, we can conclude that one in four ODT formulations had a pH below 5.5 (critical pH). Only one ODT formulation did not have a sugar content. No difference was seen in the mean pH, sugar content, and TA with respect to duration of use of drugs and drug classes.
