BACKGROUND
Since research on disease biomarkers of tuberculosis (TB) and latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) provides hope for simple point-of-care testing, we aim to summarize and analyze the evidence for the clinical relevance of IFN-γ-inducible protein 10 (IP-10) and IFN-γ/interleukin 2 (IL-2) as diagnostic biomarkers for TB.
METHODS
The search terms tuberculosis, tuberculous pleurisy, pulmonary tuberculosis, latent tuberculosis infection, biomarkers, markers, IFN-γ-inducible protein 10, IP-10, interleukin 2, and IL-2 were used to search the PubMed, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, EMBASE, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang, and Weipu databases. The retrieval time was from the establishment of the database to September 2021. The Cochrane risk of bias tool was used to evaluate the quality of the included studies, and the meta-analysis was performed using RevMan 5.20.
RESULTS
A total of 9 articles were included for meta-analysis. The quality assessment showed that the overall quality of the included articles was met the requirements. The results showed that the overall sensitivity and specificity of IP-10 were 0.77 (95% CI, 0.71-0.82) and 0.84 (95% CI, 0.80-0.88), respectively. The overall sensitivity and specificity of IL-2 were 0.82 (95% CI, 0.74-0.89) and 0.95 (95% CI, 0.88-0.98), respectively. The areas under the curves (AUCs) of the IP-10 and IL-2 summary receiver operating characteristic (SROC) curves were 0.8592 and 0.9666, respectively.
DISCUSSION
The results of this systematic review and meta-analysis showed that IP-10 and IL-2 as biomarkers have good clinical relevance to TB and can be used for the clinical screening of high-risk TB populations. However, a prospective cohort study across multiple regions using a large sample size should also be conducted.

Tuberculosis (TB) is still a leading cause of death worldwide. Almost a third of the world's population is infected with TB bacilli, and each year approximately 8 million people develop active tuberculosis and 2 million die as a result. However, there are few studies of long-term TB treatment outcomes from Directly Observed Therapy, Short-course (DOTS) programs in high-burden settings and particularly settings of high drug resistance. This study is a systematic review to evidence the incidence and prevalence of latent TB infection (LTBI) and disease and to evaluate the impact of various preventive strategies that have been attempted. To identify relevant studies, we searched electronic databases and journals, and contacted experts in the field. This review demonstrates that, various types of tuberculosis have different imaging findings, and typical computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance (MG) findings can suggest the diagnosis. Available evidence reinforces the need to design and implement simple, effective, and affordable tuberculosis infection-control programs in health-care facilities in our countries. With the revision of all the data's, we are able to conclude that the controlling of tuberculosis by human beings is yet not achieved. So, there is an urgency to develop awareness amongst the individuals and also a new drugs regimen for the proper treatment of tuberculosis.

INTRODUCTION
Actinomycosis is a granulomatous infection that rarely involves the larynx or pharynx. Three cases of actinomycosis of the larynx or pharynx from our institution were reviewed and a systematic literature review was performed to better define surgical management, antibiotic therapy, risk factors, and incidence of recurrence or complications.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
PubMed/Medline, Cochrane, Embase, and Google Scholar were searched on November 30, 2021 using the terms "laryngeal actinomycosis", "pharyngeal actinomycosis", "actinomycosis AND larynx", and "actinomycosis AND pharynx." Articles which did not describe appropriate sites or were non-English were excluded. Results were collected for demographic information, site(s) of infection, comorbidities, lesion characteristics and treatments.
RESULTS
Along with three cases reported from our institution, 40 unique cases were reviewed from 37 studies for a total of 43 patients (Table 1). 34 (81.0 %) of the patients were male with the highest incidence of infection in the seventh decade (54.8 %). The most common site for the infection was the larynx (69.0 %) followed by the pharynx (16.7 %). Risk factors included a history of radiation therapy, immunosuppression, inhalational irritant, and diabetes (Table 3). The duration of antibiotic therapy varied greatly, from one month to one year and total follow up ranged from 1 month to 2.5 years (Table 1).
CONCLUSIONS
A comprehensive review of the literature on pharyngolaryngeal actinomycosis shows that this infection has increased prevalence within the head and neck cancer patient population. Similar to cervicofacial actinomycosis, these atypical sites have shown favorable responses to extended antibiotic therapy and generally do not require aggressive surgical management.

BACKGROUND
Tuberculosis (TB) is a global health issue that has long threatened and continues to threaten human health. While previous studies are important in the search for a cure for TB, to eradicate the disease it is also crucial to analyze environmental influences. Therefore, this study determined the potential effect of inadequate housing on TB and the magnitude of the effect.
METHODS
This is a systematic review of the effects of inadequate housing on TB. Between Jan 1, 2011 and Oct 25, 2020, we searched four electronic databases using the search terms "housing AND tuberculosis" or "housing AND TB". The target population comprised residents of inadequate housing and the homeless.
RESULTS
We found 26 eligible studies. The distribution of the studies across continents was uneven, and the housing issues of interest seemed to vary depending on the economic level of the country. The eight steps identified in TB development and the consequences thereof were more strongly associated with housing affordability than with housing quality.
CONCLUSIONS
This is the first systematic review to identify the effects of inadequate housing on TB and to categorize inadequate-housing-related exposure to TB in terms of affordability and quality. The steps identified in TB development and the consequences thereof had a greater association with housing affordability than with housing quality. Therefore, public health interventions regarding housing affordability could be more diverse, and interventions that support affordable housing for residents of inadequate housing and the homeless should proceed simultaneously to improve housing quality.

BACKGROUND
We conducted a systematic review examining the cost effectiveness of a 3-month course of isoniazid and rifapentine, known as 3HP, given by directly observed treatment, compared to 9 months of isoniazid that is directly observed or self-administered, for latent tuberculosis infection. 3HP has shown to be effective in reducing progression to active tuberculosis and like other short-course regimens, has higher treatment completion rates compared to standard regimens such as 9 months of isoniazid. Decision makers would benefit from knowing if the higher up-front costs of rifapentine and of the human resources needed for directly observed treatment are worth the investment for improved outcomes.
METHODS
We searched PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, LILACS, and Web of Science up to February 2022 with search concepts combining latent tuberculosis infection, directly observed treatment, and cost or cost-effectiveness. Studies included were in English or French, on human subjects, with latent tuberculosis infection, provided information on specified anti-tubercular therapy regimens, had a directly observed treatment arm, and described outcomes with some cost or economic data. We excluded posters and abstracts, treatment for multiple drug resistant tuberculosis, and combined testing and treatment strategies. We then restricted our findings to studies examining directly-observed 3HP for comparison. The primary outcome was the cost and cost-effectiveness of directly-observed 3HP.
RESULTS
We identified 3 costing studies and 7 cost-effectiveness studies. The 3 costing studies compared directly-observed 3HP to directly-observed 9 months of isoniazid. Of the 7 cost-effectiveness studies, 4 were modelling studies based in high-income countries; one study was modelled on a high tuberculosis incidence population in the Canadian Arctic, using empiric costing data from that setting; and 2 studies were conducted in a low-income, high HIV-coinfection rate population. In five studies, directly-observed 3HP compared to self-administered isoniazid for 9 months in high-income countries, has incremental cost-effectiveness ratios that range from cost-saving to $5418 USD/QALY gained. While limited, existing evidence suggests 3HP may not be cost-effective in low-income, high HIV-coinfection settings.
CONCLUSION
Cost-effectiveness should continue to be assessed for programmatic planning and scale-up, and may vary depending on existing systems and local context, including prevalence rates and patient expectations and preferences.

Bovine tuberculosis (TB) is a disease of zoonotic importance for which control and eradication programmes have been carried out in many countries for decades. While the impact of these programmes on public health is still uncertain, the impact on trade is significant because of movement restrictions for animals, costs of testing and culling. The objective of this systematic review was to provide a contribution to the general debate over costs against benefits for the control and eradication of bovine TB in cattle. The search strategy was performed on four electronic databases following the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines. The selection process, data abstraction and quality appraisal were carried out according to the Cochrane Collaboration guidelines. The search identified 66 articles out of which eight fulfilled the inclusion criteria. The evidence gathered in this review by combining the conclusions of the most methodologically sound articles supports the idea that, when multiple cost and benefit components are taken into account, efforts to control or eradicate bovine TB may be effective in reducing disease prevalence, economically viable and worth doing.

OBJECTIVE
To identify literature on health literacy levels and examine its association with tuberculosis treatment adherence and treatment outcomes.
METHODS
Two authors independently searched Pubmed®, Embase, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Scopus, LILACS, Global Health Medicus and ScienceDirect for articles reporting on health literacy levels and tuberculosis that were published between January 2000 and September 2023. We defined limited health literacy as a person's inability to understand, process, and make decisions from information obtained concerning their own health. Methodological quality and the risk of bias was assessed using the JBI critical appraisal tools. We used a random effects model to assess the pooled proportion of limited health literacy, the association between health literacy and treatment adherence, and the relationship between health literacy and tuberculosis-related knowledge.
FINDINGS
Among 5813 records reviewed, 22 studies met the inclusion criteria. The meta-analysis revealed that 51.2% (95% confidence interval, CI: 48.0-54.3) of tuberculosis patients exhibit limited health literacy. Based on four studies, patients with lower health literacy levels were less likely to adhere to tuberculosis treatment regimens (pooled odds ratio: 1.95; 95% CI: 1.37-2.78). Three studies showed a significant relationship between low health literacy and inadequate knowledge about tuberculosis (pooled correlation coefficient: 0.79; 95% CI: 0.32-0.94).
CONCLUSION
Health literacy is associated with tuberculosis treatment adherence and care quality. Lower health literacy might hamper patients' ability to follow treatment protocols. Improving health literacy is crucial for enhancing treatment outcomes and is a key strategy in the fight against tuberculosis.

BACKGROUND Despite the high morbidity and mortality globally, standard microbiologic diagnosis for TB requires laboratory infrastructure inaccessible in many resource-limited areas and may be insufficient for identifying extrapulmonary disease. Point-of-care (POC) ultrasound facilitates visualization of extrapulmonary manifestations, permitting laboratory-independent diagnosis, but its diagnostic utility remains unclear.METHODS We conducted a systematic review of five online databases for studies reporting ultrasound findings among cases with and without extrapulmonary TB (EPTB). A minimum of two authors independently screened and reviewed each article, and extracted data elements of interest. We conducted a series of univariate meta-analyses using a random-effects model to calculate the pooled effect estimate and 95% confidence interval (CI) for each outcome: sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV).RESULTS Of 279 articles identified, 6 were included. There were 699 cases of EPTB among 1,633 participants. The pooled sensitivity estimate was 0.72 (95% CI 0.57-0.88). The pooled specificity estimate was 0.77 (95% CI 0.63-0.90). Substantial tuberculosis transmission occurs outside of households, and tuberculosis surveillance in schools has recently been proposed. However, the yield of tuberculosis outcomes from school contacts is not well characterized. We assessed the prevalence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection among close school contacts by performing a systematic review. We searched PubMed, Elsevier, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Wanfang databases. Studies reporting the number of children who were tested overall and who tested positive were included. Subgroup analyses were performed by study location, index case bacteriological status, type of school, and other relevant factors. In total, 28 studies including 54,707 school contacts screened for M. tuberculosis infection were eligible and included in the analysis. Overall, the prevalence of M. tuberculosis infection determined by the QuantiFERON Gold in-tube test was 33.2% (95% CI, 0.0-73.0%). The prevalences of M. tuberculosis infection based on the tuberculin skin test (TST) using 5 mm, 10 mm, and 15 mm as cutoffs were 27.2% (95% CI, 15.1-39.3%), 24.3% (95% CI, 15.3-33.4%), and 12.7% (95% CI, 6.3-19.0%), respectively. The pooled prevalence of M. tuberculosis infection (using a TST ≥5-mm cutoff) was lower in studies from China (22.8%; 95% CI, 16.8-28.8%) than other regions (36.7%; 95% CI, 18.1-55.2%). The pooled prevalence of M. tuberculosis infection was higher when the index was bacteriologically positive (43.6% [95% CI, 16.5-70.8%] versus 23.8% [95% CI, 16.2-31.4%]). These results suggest that contact investigation and general surveillance in schools from high-burden settings merit consideration as means to improve early case detection in children.

BACKGROUND
Natural resistance associated macrophage protein 1 (NRAMP1), encoded by the SLC11A1 gene, has been described to regulate macrophage activation and be associated with infectious and autoimmune diseases. The relation between SLC11A1 polymorphisms and tuberculosis susceptibility has been studied in different populations.
METHODS
We systematically reviewed published studies on SLC11A1 polymorphisms and tuberculosis susceptibility until September 15, 2010 and quantitatively summarized associations of the most widely studied polymorphisms using meta-analysis.
RESULTS
In total, 36 eligible articles were included in this review. In Meta-analysis, significant associations were observed between tuberculosis risk and widely studied SLC11A1 polymorphisms with summarized odds ratio of 1.35 (95%CI, 1.17-1.54), 1.25 (95% CI, 1.04-1.50), 1.23 (95% CI, 1.04-1.44), 1.31 (95%CI, 1.08-1.59) for 3' UTR, D543N, INT4, and 5' (GT)n, respectively. Heterogeneity between studies was not pronounced, and the associations did not remarkably vary in the stratified analysis with respect to study population and study base.
CONCLUSIONS
The association between SLC11A1 polymorphisms and tuberculosis susceptibility observed in our analyses supports the hypothesis that NRAMP1 might play an important role in the host defense to the development of tuberculosis.
