The term "bone marrow edema" was used for the first time in 1988 by Wilson. He noticed a high signal on fluid-sensitive sequences at MRI located in the subchondral bone. We can find bone marrow edema in many musculoskeletal diseases such as Inflammatory and Rheumatic diseases (Rheumatoid Arthritis, Spondylarthritis, etc.), Osteoarthritis (BMLs) and Bone Marrow Edema Syndromes (BMES). This classification is based on pathophysiological, histological and clinical differences despite the same imaging evidence. The distinction is useful also in terms of treatment. Bisphosphonates in association with NSAIDs or corticosteroids are the main therapy while TNF-a Inhibitors are used for the specific inflammatory origin. Bone marrow edema has become an important aspect to consider in the diagnostic path of the main musculoskeletal diseases. This paper starts from a systematic review of literature. We chose the most decisive contributions in order to develop a better description of the pathogenetic features about this "new" evidence.

INTRODUCTION
Haemangiosarcoma (HSA) is a malignant neoplasm of dogs and cats that is suspected to originate from a pluripotent bone marrow progenitor with a complex and multifactorial pathogenesis.
APPROACH
Pertinent literature was identified, reviewed, and summarized for inclusion in the manuscript.
RESULTS/INTERPRETATION
Dogs are more frequently diagnosed with HSA than cats, and primary sites of this disease include dermal, subcutaneous/intramuscular, and visceral (most commonly the spleen). Dogs and cats with HSA generally have a poor prognosis owing to the rapid and widespread metastasis typically associated with this disease. However, some forms such as cutaneous HSA behave in a less aggressive fashion with improved outcomes. Surgical excision and anthracycline-based chemotherapy remain the mainstays of treatment, although novel treatment modalities are currently under investigation for potential roles in treatment of this disease.
CONCLUSION
This review aims to describe the clinical presentation and progression of the various forms of HSA in dogs and cats as well as to provide a systematic review of the veterinary literature with a focus on the various published treatment options and associated outcomes.

Meniscus injuries are among the most common athletic injuries and result in functional impairment in the knee. Repair is crucial for pain relief and prevention of degenerative joint diseases like osteoarthritis. Current treatments, however, do not produce long-term improvements. Thus, recent research has been investigating new therapeutic options for regenerating injured meniscal tissue. This review comprehensively details the current methodologies being explored in the basic sciences to stimulate better meniscus injury repair. Furthermore, it describes how these preclinical strategies may improve current paradigms of how meniscal injuries are clinically treated through a unique and alternative perspective to traditional clinical methodology.

Ischemic stroke is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in neurological diseases. Numerous studies have evaluated the efficacy and safety of ischemic stroke therapies, but clinical data were largely inconsistent. Therefore, it is necessary to summarize and analyze the published clinical research data in the field. We aimed to perform an umbrella review to evaluate the efficacy and safety of ischemic stroke therapies. We conducted a search for meta-analyses and systematic reviews on PubMed, the Cochrane Library, and the Web of Science to address this issue. We examined neurological function deficit and cognitive function scores, quality of life, and activities of daily living as efficacy endpoints and the incidence of adverse events as safety profiles. Forty-three eligible studies including 377 studies were included in the umbrella review. The results showed that thrombolytic therapy (tPA; alteplase, tenecteplase, and desmoteplase), mechanical thrombectomy (MTE), edaravone with tPA, stem cell-based therapies, stent retrievers, acupuncture with Western medicines, autologous bone marrow stromal cells, antiplatelet agents (aspirin, clopidogrel, and tirofiban), statins, and Western medicines with blood-activating and stasis-dispelling herbs (NaoShuanTong capsule, Ginkgo biloba, Tongqiao Huoxue Decoction, Xuesaitong injection) can improve the neurological deficits and activities of daily living, and the adverse effects were mild for the treatment of ischemic stroke. Moreover, ligustrazine, safflower yellow, statins, albumin, colchicine, MLC601, salvianolic acids, and DL-3-n-butylphthalide showed serious adverse events, intracranial hemorrhage, or mortality in ischemic stroke patients. Our study demonstrated that tPA, edaravone and tPA, tPA and MTE, acupuncture and Western medicines, and blood-activating and stasis-dispelling herbs with Western medicines are the optimum neurological function and activities of daily living medication for patients with ischemic stroke. : https://inplasy.com/, identifier [INPLASY202250145].

Premature ovarian failure (POF) is a common female reproductive disorder and characterized by menopause, increased gonadotropin levels and estrogen deficiency before the age of 40 years old. The etiologies and pathogenesis of POF are not fully clear. At present, hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is the main treatment options for POF. It helps to ameliorate perimenopausal symptoms and related health risks, but can't restore ovarian function and fertility fundamentally. With the development of regenerative medicine, bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) have shown great potential for the recovery of ovarian function and fertility based on the advantages of abundant sources, high capacity for self-renewal and differentiation, low immunogenicity and less ethical considerations. This systematic review aims to summarize the possible therapeutic mechanisms of BMSCs for POF. A detailed search strategy of preclinical studies and clinical trials on BMSCs and POF was performed on PubMed, MEDLINE, Web of Science and Embase database. A total of 21 studies were included in this review. Although the standardization of BMSCs need more explorations, there is no doubt that BMSCs transplantation may represent a prospective therapy for POF. It is hope to provide a theoretical basis for further research and treatment for POF.

Ataxia-Telangiectasia (A-T) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder, first reported in 1926, caused by a deficiency of ATM (Ataxia-Telangiectasia Mutated) protein. The disease is characterized by progressive cerebellar neurodegeneration, immunodeficiency, leukemia, and lymphoma cancer predisposition. Immunoglobulin replacement, antioxidants, neuroprotective factors, growth, and anti-inflammatory hormones are commonly used for A-T treatment, but, to date, there is no known cure. Bone marrow transplantation (BMT) is a successful therapy for several forms of diseases and it is a valid approach for tumors, hemoglobinopathies, autoimmune diseases, inherited disorders of metabolism, and other pathologies. Some case reports of A-T patients have shown that BMT is becoming a good option, as a correct engraftment of healthy cells can restore some aspects of immunologic capacity. However, due to a high risk of mortality as a result of a clinical and cellular hypersensitivity to ionizing radiation and radiomimetic drugs, a specific non-myeloablative conditioning is required before BMT. Although BMT might be considered as one promising therapy for the treatment of immunological defects and cancer prevention in selected A-T patients, the therapy is currently not recommended or recognized and the eligibility of A-T patients for BMT is a point to deepen and deliberate.

Various chronic hematologic disorders that lead to ineffective hemopoiesis or inadequate bone marrow function (ie, chronic hemolytic anemias, thalassemia, sickle cell anemia, myelofibrosis of many causes, lymphoma, and leukemia) can potentially precipitate extramarrow new blood element creation. Extramarrow soft tissue that produces blood elements is called extramedullary hemopoietic tissue and the process extramedullary hemopoiesis (EMH). Sites commonly involved by EMH include the liver, spleen, lymph nodes, and most commonly, paravertebral regions, although other sites can sometimes be involved. Physicians rarely consider EMH in their differential diagnosis even in cases where it is warranted (diseases of ineffective erythropoiesis). This is likely because of the rarity of the condition and because imaging findings are nonspecific. We present here a systematic review of the imaging findings in EMH.

AIM
The objective of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to obtain information about risks and associated factors for knee symptoms and the progression of osteoarthritis in idiopathic bone marrow lesion (BML).
MATERIALS AND METHODS
The primary search on 31. 12. 2013 included the databases PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science and Cochrane by the search strategy [[bone marrow edema] AND [knee]]. This review was continuously updated up to 31. 10. 2015.
RESULTS
A total of 30 studies (from 1331 primary findings) were included in the final evaluation. The mean frequency of BML in all studies was 37.2 %. The occurrence of BML was strongly dependent on the MRI technique used (1.0 to 3.0 T). In longitudinal studies, the incidence of BML was 3.2 (95 % CI 1.7-6.3)/1000 person-months. Weakly associated factors included female gender (OR = 1.3 [95 % CI 1.1-1.7], p = 0.009), increasing age (OR = 1.05 [95 % CI 0.9-1.3], p = 0.127), and overweight or obesity (OR = 1.1 [95 % CI 1.1-1.2]; p < 0.01). BMLs are significantly associated with cartilage lesions (OR = 5.5 [95 % CI 1.3-22.5]). Radiological osteoarthritis is also significantly associated with the development of BML (OR = 3.6 [95 % CI 1.2-10.6]) and the progression of osteoarthritis within a 3-year interval (OR = 4.4 [95 % CI 3.1-6.4]).
CONCLUSIONS
The occurrence of BML is an important index for severe degenerative pathologies in the knee. It appears that MRT symptoms predict the progression of the disease. The clinical relevance and possible consequences for treatment are unclear.

BACKGROUND
Colorectal cancer (CRC) metastasis commonly occurs in the liver and lungs with bone metastasis rarely occurring in isolation. Disseminated carcinomatosis of bone marrow (DCBM) is extremely rare in CRC. We conducted a systematic review to provide more information on the diagnosis, treatment options, and prognosis of the condition.
METHODS
Studies were identified by performing searches on MEDLINE and EMBASE electronic databases according to the PRISMA statement standards. We included a single patient whom we treated for metastatic CRC presenting with DCBM in our study. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS software version 23.0.
RESULTS
A search through 5502 unique studies yielded 14 studies that were eventually included. There was a total of 17 cases of DCBM in CRC with back pain and constitutional symptoms as the most common presenting complaints. DCBM in CRC was associated with markedly elevated CEA of 275.57 (95% CI 17.13-534.00). There was no predilection for site of primary tumour. Overall median survival was 120 days (95% CI 64.43-175.58). The median survival for patients who received chemotherapy was 240 days (95% CI 71.11-408.89), as compared to 9 days (95% CI 1.80-16.20) for patients who received best supportive treatment.
CONCLUSION
DCBM from CRC is extremely rare. Bone marrow examination remains the gold standard for diagnosis. Colonic stenting or surgical diversion may be more appropriate than primary resection in obstructed CRC in view of the poor prognosis. Systemic chemotherapy shows promise in increasing median survival.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS
Gaucher disease (GD) is one of the most common lysosomal storage diseases. It is characterized by the accumulation of glucocerebroside lipids in the macrophages, with liver, spleen and bone marrow frequently affected. The affected organs can develop tumor-like lesions (Gaucheromas), which are difficult to diagnose. We present the Gaucheromas and their ultrasonographic characteristics.
METHODS
We selected Gaucheromas and their ultrasonographic characteristics found in the last 5 years during the periodical evaluation of 74 adult GD patients in Romania. All the patients had magnetic resonance imaging examination for comparison. A systematic review of all the Gaucheroma-related articles was performed to compare our results with the literature.
RESULTS
Gaucheromas were found in 7 adult patients: 4 in the spleen, 2 in the liver and one affecting the bone. No malignancy ultrasound characteristics were found and neither on MRI exams. In the literature, 10 articles reported Gaucheromas, most of them in the liver and spleen in type 1 GD patients. All our patients were also type 1 GD, and the ultrasound aspect did not change during the 5 years follow-up.
CONCLUSIONS
Gaucheromas can be found in any patient with GD. Malignancies have to be considered unless proven otherwise. Imaging characterization (ultrasound and MRI) are useful as histopathologic examination is difficult to obtain in all cases.
