Poland's Syndrome is rare, therefore, clinicians may not be familiar with all that potentially defines this disorder. Much of the literature that exists regarding Poland's Syndrome focuses on the surgical correction of breast asymmetry for cosmesis. Inspired by a patient at our institution, this paper reviews this rare breast disorder and its associated findings within the context of the whole woman with special attention to breast cancer in this cohort.

Review
Poland's syndrome classically consists of the combination of unilateral aplasia of the sternocostal head of the pectoralis major muscle and an ipsilateral hypoplastic hand with simple syndactyly and short fingers. However, patients with Poland's syndrome may have a broad range of hand anomalies. In this paper, the author reviews 20 cases of Poland's syndrome and offers a classification of the hand anomalies. The hand anomalies are divided into seven types according to the severity of the deformity. Clinical cases are presented along with similar cases from the literature. The aetiology of Poland's syndrome is discussed and the various malformations that may co-exist with this syndrome are reviewed.

Here, we present a description of Poland syndrome from the second session of the Anatomical Society (Paris, France) on 11 December 1803 of congenital mammary absence and muscular atrophy on the right side. This case report predates the first official description of the disease published by Alfred Poland in Guy's Hospital Reports (London, 1841). Consequently, perhaps would it be necessary to do justice to its French discoverer, and to name from now on this nosological entity the "syndrome of Marandel"?

Review
Poland's syndrome consists of the variable clinical features, but always includes unilateral aplasia of the chest wall muscles and ipsilateral anomalies of upper extremity. The incidence of Poland's syndrome, reported by different authors ranges from 1:10,000 to 1:100,000 and is observed more frequently in males than in females with the right side of the body affected more often than the left. The etiology of this syndrome is still discussed. However most of described cases were sporadic, rare familial incidence of Poland's syndrome were also presented. Therefore different etiologic factors of the Poland's syndrome are taken into account: genetic, vascular compromise during early stages of embriogenesis but also teratogenic effect of environmental xenobiotics (e.g. cigarette smoking by pregnant women). The authors present also the case of 20-years old man with inherited bilateral syndactyly with the right side aplasia of major pectoralis muscle and face asymmetry. The familial history was negative in respect to the features, associated with Poland's syndrome.

Review
Poland's syndrome is a rare congenital malformation that is characterized by a congenital defect of the pectoralis major. It is associated with various ipsilateral upper extremity anomalies and homolateral breast hypoplasia. There have been reports of Poland's syndrome being associated with different malignancies. Here, we report two cases of Poland's syndrome associated with breast cancer (BC) and review the literature. To date, 21 cases (including our two cases) of Poland's syndrome associated with BC have been reported. The clinical characteristics of the disease are analyzed in this report.
