Odontogenic myxofibromas are variants of odontogenic myxomas that contain considerable amounts of collagen fibers in the myxoid stroma. Cytogenetic studies of odontogenic myxomas/myxofibromas have rarely been reported. This report describes the first case of an odontogenic myxofibroma presenting with HMGA2 protein overexpression and HMGA2 rearrangement in a 40-year-old woman. A 2.7-cm tumor in the premolar region of the right mandible was curettaged. There was no evidence of recurrence or metastasis at 12 months after the surgery. Histological examination revealed that the tumor comprised spindle or stellate cells with mild nuclear pleomorphism, abundant myxoid matrix and partly dense collagen fibers. Mitotic figures were rarely observed. Immunohistochemically, the tumor cells were diffusely positive for vimentin and HMGA2. Less than 1% of the tumor cells were positive for Ki-67. We detected split signals by interphase fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) in paraffin sections using HMGA2 break-apart probes. The breaks were certainly located within or near the HMGA2 gene. No rearrangement of the FUS gene was detected by FISH, implying discrimination from low-grade fibromyxoid sarcoma. It is suggested that HMGA2 rearrangement and HMGA2 protein overexpression may be associated with the tumorigenesis of odontogenic myxomas/myxofibromas, similar to the case for many other benign mesenchymal tumors.

Perifollicular fibroma(PFF) is a rare cutaneous hamartoma that shows differentiation in the connective tissue sheath of the hair follicle. It may be single (congenital or acquired) or multiple (late onset). We report a 14-year-old Korean boy with a congenital solitary PFF on the face, which supports the nevoid concept of origin rather than a reactive response to injury.

Ledderhose disease (plantar fibromas) is histologically related to Dupuytren disease, which has been successfully treated for years with radiotherapy. Many conservative treatments have been advanced for plantar fibromas, including accommodative orthotic devices, which help but do not cure the disease. Surgery is considered the mainstay of treatment for this malady, but the failure rate has been as high as 100%, depending on the type of fasciectomy. Radiotherapy is a new, exciting modality that has shown promising results for treating plantar fibromas.

Odontogenic fibromyxomas are benign odontogenic tumors of mesenchymal origin of rare presentation in the oral cavity, which exhibit locally aggressive behavior and are prone to local recurrence. The controversy has mainly been on therapeutic management with recommendations varying, depending on the clinical cases, from simple curettage of lesion to segmental bone resection. We present a case report describing the reconstruction of an osseous defect in the maxilla and the restoration with dental implants in a 32 year old female patient after radical surgical excision due to an odontogenic fibromyxoma with locally aggressive behavior. The primary reconstruction of maxillary discontinuity defect was carried out by an immediate non-vascularized cortico-cancellous iliac crest graft. Using a computer-guided system for the implant treatment-planning, three dental implants were secondary placed in the bone graft by means of flapless implant surgery. The patient was subsequently restored with an implant-supported fixed prosthesis that has remained in continuous function for a period of three years. The surgical, reconstructive and restorative treatment sequence and techniques are discussed.

In this article, a rare case of large myxofibroma of the mandible has been presented. The odontogenic myxoma originated from the mesenchym ise benign and can be arised from dental papilla, dental follicle or the periodontal ligament. Myxoma is mostly located in maxilla or mandible and accompanied by an unerupted tooth and can be seen in the second or third decade of the life. It is painless and uncapsulated and the growth of tumor is slow. Since it is uncapsulated, recurrence is about 25%. Myxoma can be confused radiologically with benign or malign lesions of jaws which are radiolucent in nature. Curretting, cauterization and resection are methods of treatment and the prognosis is good.

Review
Fibromas are frequent cutaneous neoplasms of young deer of many species, characterized by proliferation of both epithelial and dermal cells. Virus particles, similar to those found in fibrous skin tumors of several wild and domestic species, have been identified in some species by electron microscopy. Attempted transmission of fibromas has not been uniformly successful using filtered preparations.
