For the production of transgenic rats, matings are carried out under controlled conditions in order to obtain a supply of one-cell fertilized eggs, and to obtain pseudopregnancy in females, which will act as surrogate mothers for the microinjected eggs.

A case is presented of an adolescent girl whose initial psychotic event was the appearance of pseudocyesis, which was terminated by a delusional miscarriage. The delusion was initiated by amenorrhea, which was probably due to a persistent luteal cyst and was perpetuated by the patient's underlying thought disorder. This case supports the somatopsychic hypothesis that pseudocyesis can be initiated by a coincidental physiologic change in a susceptible individual. Physicians must consider a psychotic delusional state in the etiology of pseudocyesis.

Review
Rats, like mice, hamsters and other small rodents, have a short, incomplete estrous cycle. They lack a spontaneous luteal phase, and the corpora lutea (CL) of the estrous cycle are short-lived and nonfunctional. The activation of the luteal phase in these incompletely cycling females depends on the neuroendocrine reflex provided by the male at the time of mating. In this article we review our research on the cervix-brain-pituitary-ovary interaction at the endocrine, neuroendocrine, neurotransmitter and behavioural levels, dealing with the chain of events initiated by the male and necessary for the establishment of the progestational state.

Review
The development and activity of the nasal mucosa are influenced by many hormonal substances. In this work we realize a bibliographical review about the effect of adrenaline, thyroid hormones, corticosteroids and sex hormones on the nasal respiratory mucous membrane. We emphasize the clinic consequences.

A few case reports on the delusion of pregnancy can be found in the published literature. However, the delusion of maternity, a delusional conviction of the patient that she is a mother of one or more children, has not yet been studied closely. The author describes the case of a 62-year-old childless patient with a diagnosis of chronic paranoid schizophrenia. She developed a delusion of maternity, persistent for many years. This markedly influenced her behaviour.
