Review
Aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) is a benign expansile bone tumor without metastasis capability. Only 3-4% of ABCs occur in the hand and they mainly take place in metaphysis' of long bones like metacarpals or phalanges. Carpal ABCs have been reported as individual case reports in the literature due to rarity. A patient presented with pain in her right wrist. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a well circumscribed one cm sized mass in the pisiform bone that resembled an aneurysmal bone cyst. Total pisiformectomy was performed. Treatment options are total excision or curettaging in ABCs. But rarity of these lesions may delay the diagnosis process for the inexperienced surgeon.

A pisiform dislocation is an uncommon injury which can lead to significant morbidity if missed. The literature regarding pisiform dislocation is limited and largely from case reports. In this case, we present a 51-year-old right-hand dominant male who sustained the injury after a fall. He attended the emergency department on the same day and a closed reduction was able to be performed under a haematoma block. On review in follow-up clinic the patient's symptoms had completely resolved.

Traumatic dislocation of the pisiform bone (PB) is a rare injury of the carpal bones, especially in pediatric patients. A few cases were reported, and there is no consensus about the treatment. Each author supports his own method, such as an open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) approach or a closed reduction. However, failures of both techniques with recurrent dislocation of the PB have been reported in the literature. In this article, a fracture dislocation of the PB was treated with ORIF in an 11-year-old boy with a greenstick radial fracture. In addition, a review of the literature about pisiform fracture dislocation in children has been made.

Comparative Study Review
Dislocation of the pisiform bone is extremely rare. So far, only 25 cases proved by radiographs have been reported. The sturdiness and stability of its ligamentous attachments may explain why dislocations of the pisiform are so rare. Often the dislocation is the result of direct trauma to the palmar and ulnar aspect of the wrist and less frequently due to indirect force or forceful muscular contraction. Dislocation of the pisiform bone occurs predominantly in young and active males. Usually, the pisiform is dislocated proximally or distally. The diagnosis is made by plain radiography. Operative treatment with pisiform excision and meticulous reapproximation of the attached soft-tissue structures yielded the most reliable results with preservation of wrist-flexion strength. Thus, although being very heterogenous with regard to mechanism of injury and displacement, pisiform dislocations should receive uniform treatment to obtain predictable results.

Hand (New York, N.Y.) Sep 2017Aneurysmal bone cysts are an uncommon form of benign primary bone tumors; affection of the hand is very rare.
BACKGROUND
Aneurysmal bone cysts are an uncommon form of benign primary bone tumors; affection of the hand is very rare.
METHODS
A rigorous review of the literature showed that this type of tumor has not previously been described in the pisiform. In this article, we report the occurrence of an aneurysmal bone tumor in the pisiform of the left hand of a 19-year-old male.
RESULTS
This tumor was successfully treated through surgical excision with an uneventful recovery. We describe the process behind the diagnosis of the lesion and the subsequent treatment in an attempt to highlight the rare but possible occurrence of aneurysmal bone cysts in the pisiform.
CONCLUSION
Appropriate treatment of aneurysmal bone cysts in this location is required, due to the anatomical nature of the pisiform itself with the risks of pathologic fracture and ulnar nerve compression.

Osteochondroma is the most common bone tumour, which appears most commonly in the long bones. However, cases have been described in the scaphoid, capitate, lunate, trapezium, and trapezoid bones, which can be a cause of pain in the hand and wrist. Osteochondromas can occur concomitantly with other traumatic or degenerative processes or generate complications in adjacent structures. Below we present an osteochondroma in the pisiform bone associated with pisotriquetral osteoarthritis.

An isolated fracture of the pisiform bone is a rare condition, especially in children. The fracture may be missed in the emergency department because of the complex anatomy of the carpal region. Early diagnosis and treatment are, however, important for the functional outcome of the patient, since untreated dislocated carpal fractures may result in nonunion. We report one case of a 9-year-old boy with an unrecognized fracture of the pisiform bone who underwent a pisiformectomy 10 months after injury due to a nonunion of the pisiform bone. Good results were obtained and the wrist did not show any functional impairment.
