For psychiatric patients, playing the role of their life, producing a film, editing it and presenting it to the public with the support of a group made up of patients and caregivers is a real form of self-distancing, a type of therapy. The video group from the Saint Ouen day hospital has been carrying out this creative and therapeutic work for several years. Screenings and exchanges between care centres are regularly organised.

An individual psychoanalytic psychodrama session with an adolescent treated at the Maison de Solenn shows the benefit of psychodrama role playing. Using the body, the imagination and 'pretend play', this therapy gives access to symbolisation and facilitates the care process.

A series of four studies was conducted to investigate the influence of role enactment on problem-solving in 6-10 yr old children from a disadvantaged background. It was hypothesized that asking the child to enact someone 'clever' (and in one instance someone 'not clever'), would modify the child's performance on the Matching Familiar Figures test as against performance under standard administrative conditions. Apart from the 6 yr old sample, the findings supported the experimental hypothesis. In addition, the speech of 7 and 8 yr old impulsive and reflective children, and children previously administered reflectivity training schemes, was analysed in terms of a classification scheme of reflexivity. No differences were found between these groups on the measures of reflexivity used in speech. The implications of these findings and this approach for disadvantaged children are discussed.

The delivery of effective information flow through self learning, critical thinking and problem solving is one of the objectives of current curriculum development within the Dental Faculty of the University of Hong Kong. These objectives reflect a desire to encourage skills related to 'comprehension learning' and 'meaning orientation' rather than 'rote' learning and 'surface' approaches. This paper explains the way in which role-play and psychodrama are used in an effort to achieve these objectives.

Based on the results presented here, psychodrama has a definite place in the treatment of acute and chronic psychiatric clients. It works especially well with these clients on an information-gathering level to elicit information about a client's past unresolved conflicts and feeling relating to them. This data is not often available in the social and psychological history. An additional benefit of this exercise is the accelerated acceptance of the new client into the open-ended, ongoing group. It has also proved to make future group sessions more meaningful to the new member. The implementation of psychodrama at the information gathering level has benefited the therapists clinically and, at the same time, enhanced the client's total participation in group.

Comparative Study
A study was conducted to explore the hypothesis that contemporary U.S. psychodramatists evince a shift from strict adherence to the conceptual frame of reference espoused by classical psychodrama toward a degree of sharing concepts with those valued by psychodynamic and interpersonal group therapists. Sixty-two senior psychodramatists ranked a form comprised of 44 concepts. Their rankings were compared to the results of a study by Dies (1992). In general, the results supported the hypothesis.
