Various complications occur after a biliary-digestive reconstruction. Volvulus of a segment of the biliodigestive loop has not been described. Two patients who underwent biliodigestive bypass, years later, began with sudden and intense abdominal pain, associated with a volvulus with necrosis of a segment of this biliodigestive loop. This complication occurred many years after the initial correction, and manifested with sudden abdominal pain without impaired liver function, as occurred in these patients.

BACKGROUND
Colonic volvulus, a condition in which a colonic segment partially twists around its base, is the third leading cause of large bowel obstruction after colonic neoplasms and diverticular disease. However, volvulus of the transverse colon is the rarest type of large intestinal volvulus. Moreover, the occurrence of transverse colonic volvulus secondary to a benign tumor originating from outside the intestine has never been reported. We hereby report a case of transverse colonic volvulus caused by mesenteric fibromatosis.
CASE PRESENTATION
A 53-year-old female with a history of rheumatoid arthritis and thyroid tumor presented with abdominal pain for 1 day. Abdominal computed tomography revealed intestinal torsion at the hepatic flexure. Twisted and obstructed mucosa of the transverse colon was observed during colonoscopy, but no tumor invasion of the mucosal surface was detected. A solid mass of a mesenteric origin with involvement of the transverse colon was observed during surgery. The mass was diagnosed surgically as transverse colonic volvulus induced by a mesenteric tumor. Hence, the patient underwent a right hemicolectomy. Histopathological results indicated mesenteric desmoid-type fibromatosis. The postoperative recovery was uneventful, and the patient was discharged 8 days after surgery.
CONCLUSIONS
Although mesenteric fibromatosis is rare, this disease should be considered when managing transverse colonic volvulus resulting from nonmucosal tumors.

Review
Malrotation occurs when there is a failure in the intestinal rotation leading to abnormal fixation to the abdominal wall and a mesentery with a short root. Volvulus is a life-threatening complication of malrotation. It can lead to irreversible intestinal necrosis and requires immediate attention. Early recognition of malrotation and surgical correction could prevent the onset of volvulus. We describe 3 cases of children with a malrotation. Case A involves a 2-year-old boy who suffered from repeated episodes of vomiting. Case B, a 1-month-old female, was taken to the general practitioner after acute onset of crying and flexing of the legs. Case C, a 5-year-old-boy with no medical history, had started vomiting hourly. In presenting these 3 cases, we highlight the dangers of untreated malrotation and make recommendations on how to manage a patient suspected of having this congenital abnormality.

Review
Sigmoid volvulus (SV) is an extremely rare cause of bowel obstruction in the newborn period. We report a neonatal case of SV misdiagnosed as small bowel volvulus. At laparotomy, the classical findings of SV were observed without gangrene. The operative procedure consisted of simple detorsion without sigmoidopexy.
