BACKGROUND
Concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CRT) is the standard treatment for locally advanced cervical cancer. We investigated how additional bone marrow sparing (BMS) affects the clinical outcomes.
METHODS
We queried MEDLINE, Embase, Web of Science Core Collection, Google Scholar, Sinomed, CNKI, and Wanfang databases for articles published in English or Chinese between 2010/01/01 and 2023/10/31. Full-text manuscripts of prospective, randomised trials on BMS in cervical cancer patients treated with definitive or postoperative CRT were included. Risk of bias (RoB) was assessed using Cochrane Collaboration's RoB tool. Random-effects models were used for the -analysis.
RESULTS
A total of 17 trials encompassing 1297 patients were included. The majority were single-centre trials (n = 1268) performed in China (n = 1128). Most trials used CT-based anatomical BMS (n = 1076). There was a comparable representation of trials in the definitive (n = 655) and postoperative (n = 582) settings, and the remaining trials included both.Twelve studies reported data on G ≥ 3 (n = 782) and G ≥ 2 (n = 754) haematologic adverse events. Both G ≥ 3 (OR 0.39; 95 % CI 0.28-0.55; p < 0.001) and G ≥ 2 (OR 0.29; 95 % CI 0.18-0.46; p < 0.001) toxicity were significantly lowered, favouring BMS. Seven studies (n = 635) reported data on chemotherapy interruptions, defined as receiving less than five cycles of cisplatin, which were significantly less frequent in patients treated with BMS (OR 0.44; 95 % CI 0.24-0.81; p = 0.016). There was no evidence of increased gastrointestinal or genitourinary toxicity.There were no signs of significant heterogeneity. Four studies were assessed as high RoB; sensitivity analyses excluding these provided comparable results for main outcomes. The main limitations include heterogeneity in BMS methodology between studies, low representation of populations most affected by cervical cancer, and insufficient data to assess survival outcomes.
CONCLUSIONS
The addition of BMS to definitive CRT in cervical cancer patients decreases hematologic toxicity and the frequency of interruptions in concurrent chemotherapy. However, data are insufficient to verify the impact on survival and disease control.

OBJECTIVE
The World Health Organization (WHO) declared that the human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most widespread infection that affects women's reproductive system. HPV is a serious concern to women's health, as it has a negative impact on women's quality of life. Approximately 70% of all occurrences of cervical cancer globally are caused by HPV strains 16 and 18. A few studies have found that HPV vaccinations play a significant role in protecting women against HPV infections. This study aims to identify the effectiveness of the HPV vaccine and to examine the influence of this vaccine on women's health.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
EBSCO, PubMed, Cochrane, Google Scholar, Science Direct, and ProQuest were selected as electronic databases for systematic research. The inclusion criteria encompassed studies published in English from January 2019 to August 2023, evaluating the effectiveness of the HPV vaccine in women aged 18-76 years globally. This review included different types of studies, including cross-sectional, retrospective cohort, original randomized controlled trials, and prospective studies. Moreover, the included studies were evaluated using the Jonna Briggs Institute (JBI) methodological quality checklist tool. Two reviewers assessed the methodological quality of all studies using JBI guidelines.
RESULTS
The search identified 11,095 articles, 19 of which were included in this review. Significant findings were found regarding the relationship between HPV vaccines and women's health.
CONCLUSIONS
This review highlights the importance of the HPV vaccine and its administration among women to promote their health and prevent future infections.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS
Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) with brush cytology is an important tool in the diagnosis of hepatobiliary malignancies. However, reported sensitivity of brush cytology is suboptimal and differs markedly per study. The aim of this study is to analyze the optimal technique of endobiliary brushing during ERCP.
METHODS
A systematic review and meta-analysis according was performed using Pubmed, Embase and Cochrane library, and reported reported according to the PRISMA guidelines. The intervention reported should involve ERCP, performed by the endoscopist with a comparison of different brushing techniques. The primary outcome was sensitivity for malignancy. Studies published up to December 2022 were included. Percutaneous techniques and cytological or laboratory techniques for processing of material were excluded. Bias was assessed using the Quadas-2 tool. Pooled sensitivity rates and Forest plots were analyzed for the primary outcome.
RESULTS
A total of 16 studies were included. Three studies reported on brushing before or after dilation of a biliary stricture. No improvement in sensitivity was found. Five studies reported on alternative brush designs. This did not lead to improved sensitivity. Seven studies reported on the aspiration and analysis of bile fluid, which resulted in a 16% increase in sensitivity (95% CI 4-29%). One study reported an increased in the number of brush passes to the stricture, providing an increase in sensitivity of 20%. Substantial heterogeneity between studies was found, both methodological and statistical.
CONCLUSIONS
Increasing the number of brush-passes and sending bile fluid for cytology increases the sensitivity of biliary brushings during ERCP. Dilation before brushing or alternative brush designs did not increase sensitivity.

Impact of hormone replacement therapy on all-cause and cancer-specific mortality in colorectal cancer: A systematic review and dose‒response meta-analysis of observational studies.
OBJECTIVE
The effect of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) on colorectal cancer (CRC) mortality and all-cause mortality remains unclear. We conducted a systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis to determine the effects of HRT on CRC mortality and all-cause mortality.
METHODS
We searched the electronic databases of PubMed, Embase, and The Cochrane Library for all relevant studies published until January 2024 to investigate the effects of HRT exposure on survival rates for patients with CRC. Two reviewers independently extracted individual study data and evaluated the risk of bias between the studies using the Newcastle‒Ottawa Scale. We performed a two-stage random-effects dose-response meta-analysis to examine a possible nonlinear relationship between the year of HRT use and CRC mortality.
RESULTS
Ten cohort studies with 480,628 individuals were included. HRT was inversely associated with the risk of CRC mortality (hazard ratios (HR) = 0.77, 95% CI (0.68, 0.87), I = 69.5%, p < 0.05). The pooled results of seven cohort studies revealed a significant association between HRT and the risk of all-cause mortality (HR = 0.71, 95% CI (0.54, 0.92), I = 89.6%, p < 0.05). A linear dose-response analysis (p for nonlinearity = 0.34) showed a 3% decrease in the risk of CRC for each additional year of HRT use; this decrease was significant (HR = 0.97, 95% CI (0.94, 0.99), p < 0.05). An additional linear (p for nonlinearity = 0.88) dose-response analysis showed a nonsignificant decrease in the risk of all-cause mortality for each additional year of HRT use.
CONCLUSIONS
This study suggests that the use of HRT is inversely associated with all-cause and colorectal cancer mortality, thus causing a significant decrease in mortality rates over time. More studies are warranted to confirm this association.

PURPOSE
Germline testing in pediatric cancer presents opportunities and challenges. Understanding family perspectives, experiences, and preferences will optimize integration into routine care.
METHODS
Following PRISMA guidelines, we searched four databases for studies exploring perspectives, experiences, and preferences of parents/caregivers and/or patients regarding germline testing of children with cancer. Qualitative and quantitative data was extracted, organized, and summarized by research question and themes.
RESULTS
We identified 2286 unique articles, of which 24 were included. Interest in and uptake of testing was high. Families were motivated by altruism and a desire for inheritance/causation information. Testing barriers included psychological concerns, timing of the testing approach if offered at diagnosis or in a high-risk cancer setting and privacy/discrimination. Testing experiences highlighted challenges yet also positive impacts, with results providing psychological relief and informing proactive decision-making. Timing preferences varied, however allowing time to adjust to a new diagnosis was a common theme. Most wanted to receive as many germline sequencing-related results as possible.
CONCLUSION
Findings underscore the importance of integrating germline analyses into pediatric cancer care with flexibility and support for families facing challenges. Where possible, consent should be provided at a time that suits each family's situation with access to information aligning with their needs and preferences.

This study systematically reviewed the role of diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) in the assessment of molecular prognostic biomarkers in breast cancer, focusing on the correlation of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) with hormone receptor status and prognostic biomarkers. Our meta-analysis includes data from 52 studies examining ADC values in relation to estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PgR), human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2), and Ki-67 status. The results indicated significant differences in ADC values among different receptor statuses, with ER-positive, PgR-positive, HER2-negative, and Ki-67-positive tumors having lower ADC values compared to their negative counterparts. This study also highlights the potential of advanced DWI techniques such as intravoxel incoherent motion and non-Gaussian DWI to provide additional insights beyond ADC. Despite these promising findings, the high heterogeneity among the studies underscores the need for standardized DWI protocols to improve their clinical utility in breast cancer management.

BACKGROUND
Traditionally, patients undergoing craniotomy were subject to extended hospital stays for intensive monitoring and management of potential complications. However, with the evolution of surgical methods, anesthesia, and postoperative protocols, the feasibility and interest in same-day discharge (SDD) are growing. This study aimed to evaluate whether same-day discharge is a safe and feasible approach in craniotomy through a meta-analysis of the available literature.
METHODS
Following PRISMA guidelines, a comprehensive search was conducted across Medline, Embase, Cochrane, and Web of Science databases from inception to December 2023. Eligible studies comprised reports in English with a minimum of 4 patients who underwent craniotomies and were discharged with same-day discharge, whether single-arm or comparative with normal discharge. Single proportion analysis with 95 % confidence interval (CI) was used to pool the studies and Odds Ratio (OR) with 95 % CI was used to measure effects in comparative analysis. A random-effects model was adopted. Endpoints included success and failure of pre-planned same-day discharge, and postoperative complications throughout the hospital stay (until discharge), these complications were further categorized into major and minor complications. Also, need for reoperation, readmission within 24 h, readmission after 24 h, and mortality.
RESULTS
Seven observational studies were included. Five studies were included in the single-arm analysis, comprising data from 715 patients. Four studies comprising 731 patients were included in the comparative analysis, of whom 233 were discharged on SDD, and 498 were discharged normally. The analysis revealed a success rate of 88 % (95 % CI, 83 %-94 %), readmission to the hospital within the initial 24 h rate of 2 % (95 % CI, 1 %-2 %), readmission after 24 h rate of 1 % (95 % CI, 0 %-2 %;), total postoperative complications until discharge rate of 2 % (95 % CI, 1 %-4 %), major complications rate of 0 % (95 % CI, 0 %-0 %), minor complications rate of 2 % (95 % CI, 1 %-4 %), and mortality rate of 0 % (95 % CI, 0 %-0 %). Comparative analysis for complications and mortality showed no difference between both approaches.
CONCLUSION
This systematic review and meta-analysis identified that same-day discharge in craniotomy for selected patients, as well as for tumor resection craniotomies, is highly feasible and safe, with a high success rate, low failure, and reoperation rates. Moreover, for selected patients, no evidence of harm in same-day discharge was identified when compared with normal discharge. Consequently, same-day discharge may be considered a viable option, provided appropriate selection criteria are employed.

INTRODUCTION
Healthy eating and weight control are recommended for cancer survivors; however, dietary interventions are not routinely offered to them. This study aimed to assess the effects of dietary interventions on survival, nutritional status, morbidity, dietary changes, health-related quality of life (QOL), and clinical measures in cancer survivors.
METHODS
Searches were conducted from October 1, 2018 to November 21, 2011 in the Medline, EMBASE, CENTRAL, Emcare, and DARE electronic databases. We included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that involved individuals diagnosed with cancer, excluding conference abstracts, case studies, other reviews, and meta-analyses, and screened the articles.
RESULTS
Eight studies were included in this meta-analysis. We observed significant improvements in QOL and clinical data in 3 of 6 studies and in one study, respectively, significant weight loss on anthropometry in 2 of 5 studies, and dietary improvement in 4 of 5 studies of adult cancer survivors. However, we did not observe any benefits of dietary intervention for cancer survivors with undernutrition.
DISCUSSION
Dietary interventions for adult cancer survivors might contribute to improving their nutritional status; however, further clarification requires a study that standardizes the intervention method. Furthermore, RCTs are required to determine the effects on cancer survivors with undernutrition.

Bone cancer pain (BCP) profoundly impacts patient's quality of life, demanding more effective pain management strategies. The aim of this systematic review was to investigate the role of inflammatory cytokines as potential molecular targets in BCP. A systematic search for animal rodent models of bone cancer pain studies was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science. Methodological quality and risk of bias were assessed using the SYRCLE RoB tool. Twenty-five articles met the inclusion criteria, comprising animal studies investigating molecular targets related to inflammatory cytokines in BCP. A low to moderate risk of bias was reported. Key findings in 23 manuscripts revealed upregulated classic pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, IL-17, IL-18, IL-33) and chemokines in the spinal cord, periaqueductal gray, and dorsal root ganglia. Interventions targeting these cytokines consistently mitigated pain behaviors. Additionally, it was demonstrated that glial cells, due to their involvement in the release of inflammatory cytokines, emerged as significant contributors to BCP. This systematic review underscores the significance of inflammatory cytokines as potential molecular targets for alleviating BCP. It emphasizes the promise of targeted interventions and advocates for further research to translate these findings into effective therapeutic strategies. Ultimately, this approach holds the potential to enhance the patient's quality of life.

We systematically reviewed the literature on the co-occurrence of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and Warthin's tumor (WT), thought to be quite rare, to help reduce misdiagnosis and improve treatment planning. For this systematic review, we searched for articles in the Web of Science and PubMed databases, analyzed relevant studies for forward and backward citations, and identified only articles reporting on the "co-occurrence" of WT and SCC. Of the 237 studies identified, 12 comprising 18 patients met the inclusion criteria, to which we added one study from our institution. Most WTs were associated with SCC in the parotid gland or cervical lymph nodes. Most patients (89.5%) underwent selective or radical neck dissection due to identification of lesions separate from the primary SCC. Despite its frequent co-occurrence with other neoplasms, WT in the parotid or cervical lymph nodes tends to be misdiagnosed as a metastatic node when SCC is observed as the primary tumor. Factors to consider in diagnosis and neck management include identification of an association other than growth or development by lymphangiogenesis and whether the patient is a smoker, a strong risk factor.
