The present study aimed to identify parameters that best discriminate between high-level and scholar-level players for the Brazilian 13-14-year-old girl's handball and propose a mathematical model to identify sports talent for handball. The sample was made up of all available handball players comprising these two groups: 100 girls who participated in the high-level handball championship in Brazil and 53 girls (age 13-14 years) as finalists of the school-level games in one region of Brazil. We assess the anthropometric profile, maturity offset, physical fitness, and technical skills for handball. To propose the equation, the Discriminant Function Analysis method was used. The discriminant function was significant ( ≤ .05), had a good canonical correlation (0.590), and still had an average Wilk Lambda (0.652). The variables considered in the talent identification model included: 1. flexibility, 2. abdominal strength, 3. lower limbs muscle power, 4. agility, 5. defensive movement and 6. slalom with ball. The values from the equation for identifying school-age athletes with high motor skills and performance for handball can be classified by a cutoff point (Y = 0.192). The results showed that the mathematical-model obtained was able to select school-age athletes with high motor skills for handball, and with the profile for participation in high-level championships.

Review
Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a life-threatening disease that remains undetected until it acutely ruptures. Due to lack of effective pharmaceutic therapies, it is urgent to explore new prevention and treatment strategies. Metabolic reprogramming is a cellular process through which cells change their metabolic patterns to meet material and energy requirements, including glucose metabolism, lipid metabolism and amino acid metabolism. Recently, the regulatory role of metabolic reprogramming in cardiovascular diseases, especially AAA, has attracted significant attention. This review article focuses on the research progress regarding the effects of metabolic reprogramming of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) and macrophages on the occurrence and development of AAA, especially their roles in major pathological processes such as VSMCs apoptosis and phenotype transformation, extracellular matrix remodeling, oxidative stress, and inflammatory response. The aim is to provide new clues for the mechanism research and clinical treatment of AAA from the perspective of metabolism.

Primary intramuscular hydatid cysts are uncommon due to the contractile nature of muscles and their lactic acid content. Hydatid cysts with spinal extension are sometimes seen with primary vertebral body involvement. Our patient presented with a slow-growing posterior abdominal wall mass, and upon magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), it was revealed to be several cystic lesions in the abdomen wall with extension through the neural foramina into the spinal canal. The key differentials for spinal canal masses with neural foraminal expansion and muscle involvement are peripheral nerve sheath tumors. Our case report adds hydatid cysts to the differentials for well-defined cysts with variable intensities on MRI.

This study aimed to explore whether G423 could improve growth performance and lipid metabolism of broilers by the modulation of gut microbiota and metabolites. A total of 640 1-day-old AA broilers were randomly divided into 4 groups [Control (CON), Lac_L, Lac_H, and ABX]. Average daily gain (ADG), average daily feed intake (ADFI), feed conversion ratio (FCR), breast muscle, thigh muscle, and abdominal fat pad were removed and weighed at 42 days of age. Serum was obtained by centrifuging blood sample from jugular vein (10 mL) for determining high-density lipoprotein (HDL), total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and triglyceride (TG) using ELISA. The ileal contents were harvested and immediately frozen in liquid nitrogen for 16S rRNA and LC-MS analyses. Then, the results of 16S rRNA analysis were confirmed by quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). Compared with the CON group, FCR significantly decreased in the Lac_H group ( < 0.05) in 1-21 days; ADG significantly increased and FCR significantly decreased in the Lac_H group ( < 0.05) in 22-42 days. 42 days weight body and ADG significantly increased in the Lac_H group ( < 0.05) in 42 days. Abdominal fat percentage was significantly decreased by G423 ( < 0.05), the high dose of G423 significantly decreased the serum of TG, TC, and LDL level ( < 0.05), and the low dose of G423 significantly decreased the serum of TG and TC level ( < 0.05). A significant difference in microbial diversity was found among the four groups. Compared with the CON group, the abundance rates of in the Lac_H group were significantly increased ( 0.05). The global and overview maps and membrane transport in the Lac_L, Lac_H, and ABX groups significantly changed versus those in the CON group ( < 0.05). The results of LC-MS demonstrated that could significantly improve the levels of some metabolites (6-hydroxy-5-methoxyindole glucuronide, 9,10-DiHOME, -Acetyl-l-phenylalanine, and kynurenine), and these metabolites were involved in four metabolic pathways. Among them, the pathways of linoleic acid metabolism, phenylalanine metabolism, and pentose and glucuronate interconversions significantly changed ( < 0.05). G423 could ameliorate growth performance and lipid metabolism of broilers by the modulation of gut microbiota and metabolites.

Review
A wide spectrum of benign and malignant primary mesenchymal tumors and tumor-like lesions of the spleen has been recently included under the umbrella term 'stroma-derived' neoplasms and tumor-like lesions. These include dendritic cell neoplasms such as follicular dendritic cell sarcoma, EBV-positive inflammatory follicular dendritic cell sarcoma, and fibroblastic reticular cell tumor; smooth muscle and myofibroblastic lesions such as inflammatory pseudotumor, EBV-associated smooth muscle tumor and undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma as well as a diverse spectrum of vascular and vascular-stromal tumors and tumor-like lesions. While some tumor and tumor-like lesions are unique to the spleen, others may also occur in diverse extra-splenic viscera. These tumors and tumor-like lesions demonstrate characteristic histopathology, immunocytochemistry and biological behavior. While cross-sectional imaging studies allow detection, staging and limited characterization of these splenic lesions, histopathological confirmation permits optimal management and surveillance strategies.

Influence of weight-adjusted contrast enhancement on CT-derived skeletal muscle measures: A retrospective proof-of concept comparative study between Danish females and males.
BACKGROUND
Computed Tomography (CT) has an underutilized potential for evaluating body composition in clinical settings. Often conducted with intravenous contrast (IVC), CT scans yield unused body composition data due to unclear effects on skeletal muscle area (SMA), skeletal muscle index (SMI), and muscle density (SMD).
OBJECTIVE
This study investigates whether weight-adjusted IVC influences SMA, SMI, and SMD differently in female and male compared to non-contrast abdominal CT. Additionally, the study explores associations between contrast and non-contrast assessed SMA, SMI, SMD, and demographic factors.
METHODS
A comparative observational retrospective study was conducted on Danish patients who underwent consecutive four-phased contrast-enhanced abdominal CT scans (non-contrast, arterial, venous, and late venous phases). Muscle measures were evaluated using validated semi-automated threshold-based software by three independent raters.
RESULTS
The study included 72 patients (51 male, 21 female) with a mean age of 59 (55, 62) years. Weight-adjusted IVC increased SMA by up to 3.28 cm (CI: 2.58, 3.98) corresponding to 2.4% (1.8, 2.9) in late venous phase compared to non-contrast CT. Analysis between sexes showed no difference in the effects of IVC on SMA and SMI between female and male. However, females exhibited a higher increase in SMD during the venous by a mean of 1.7 HU 0.9; 2.5) and late venous phases with a mean HU of 1.80 (1.0; 2.6) compared to males. Multivariate regression analysis indicated an association between the differences in SMD and sex during venous (-1.38 , 95%CI: - 2.48, -0.48) and late venous phases (-1.23, 95% CI: -2.27, -0.19) CONCLUSION: Weight-adjusted IVC leads to increased SMA, SMI, and SMD. While SMA and SMI differences were consistent across the sexes, females exhibited a significantly higher SMD increase than male in the venous and late venous phases. Further investigations are necessary to determine the applicability of SMD as a muscle quality proxy in IVC CT scans.

Review
Hip arthroplasty is a common procedure with high costs and difficult rehabilitation. It causes postoperative pain, and this can reduce mobility which extends in-patient time. An optimal analgesia regime is crucial to identify. Opioids produce effective pain relief but are associated with nausea, vomiting, and respiratory depression which can hinder physiotherapy and discharge. Finding alternatives has been of interest in recent years, particularly fascial blocks. These are anaesthetic injections beneath fascia which spread to nerves providing pain relief from surgery and are used with a general or spinal anaesthetic. Two of these blocks which are of interest to total hip arthroplasty are the quadratus lumborum block and fascia iliaca block. Studies have investigated the effectiveness of these blocks through patient factors, primarily pain scores, opioid consumption, and other secondary outcomes such as ambulation and length of stay. This review takes a narrative approach and investigates the literature around the topic. Pain and opioid consumption were the most widely reported outcomes, reported in 90% and 86% of studies. 83% of these studies reported positive effects on pain scores when FIB was utilised. 80% of these studies reported positive effects on opioid consumption when FIB was used. When QLB block was utilised, pain and opioid consumption were positively impacted in 82% of studies. This paper has been written with the intention of reviewing current literature to give an impression of the effectiveness of the blocks and propose potential areas for future work on the blocks.

Background The pathological response rate in operable breast cancer (BC) patients receiving neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) is postulated to be related to body composition. The success of complete pathological response (pCR) is a known prognostic factor in BC patients treated with NAC. We aimed to accurately measure body composition through BMI and skeletal muscle mass and observe their effects on pCR. Materials and methods Patients diagnosed with operable BC who had a positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) or chest/abdominal CT taken at the time of diagnosis were retrospectively screened and enrolled in this study. Muscle mass was defined by third lumbar vertebra (L3) level transverse CT images, and data, including weight and height, were collected from the chemotherapy records. All these data were evaluated together with the postoperative pathological results. Results Sixty-nine operable BC patients with a median age of 46 (range: 29-72) years were included in the study. In all patients, regardless of sarcopenia, 23% (n = 16) achieved pCR to NAC. The pCR rate was 37.5% (n=6) in sarcopenic patients and 62.5% (n=10) in non-sarcopenic patients (p = 0.530). Overweight (n=4; 25%) and obese (n=2; 12.5%) patients also had a lower pathological response than normal-weight (n=10; 62.5%) BC patients (p=0.261). Conclusion Both sarcopenia and obesity independently and synergistically contribute to poorer pathological responses after NAC. Addressing these conditions through tailored interventions, such as nutritional support, exercise programs, and careful monitoring of body composition, could improve treatment outcomes. Further research with larger patient populations and comprehensive body measurements is essential to fully understand these relationships and develop effective strategies to mitigate their impact.

Pneumatosis cystoides intestinalis (PCI) is a rare disease wherein air accumulates in the intestinal subserosa and submucosa, causing multiple gaseous cysts within the gastrointestinal wall. While PCI has various known risk factors, reports identifying muscular diseases as a factor are scarce. The aim of this study is to elucidate the clinical characteristics of PCI in muscle disease. We present a case series of five cases, including two cases of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) and three cases of rare congenital myopathies. All cases are of male patients, with poor intestinal peristalsis and constipation, who underwent tube feeding and mechanical ventilation via tracheostomy. They had no signs of severe complications, such as intestinal necrosis, and all of them improved with conservative treatment. Case 1 is a 23-year-old man with DMD who developed cardiopulmonary arrest at the age of 20 years. Pulmonary hemorrhage occurred three months before the incidental detection of PCI in the ascending colon, which resolved with conservative oxygen treatment. Case 2 is a 25-year-old man with DMD who progressed to immobility necessitating tracheostomy at the age of 20 years. He experienced persistent abdominal pain and nausea, and PCI was detected in the cecum and ascending colon. He showed near-complete resolution of PCI after three months of conservative treatment. Case 3 is a six-year-old boy with reducing body myopathy. Constipation was diagnosed at four years of age. He experienced intermittent bloody stools, leading to the incidental detection of PCI at six years of age. After two months of conservative treatment, the PCI resolved with no subsequent recurrence. Case 4 is a 33-year-old man with infantile severe myotubular myopathy. He required mechanical ventilation immediately after birth and later underwent tracheostomy and tube feeding due to complications. At the age of 27 years, PCI was incidentally detected on abdominal CT. He had episodes of remission and worsening for a few years; however, PCI completely resolved after three years. Case 5 is a 27-year-old man with nemaline myopathy. At the age of 14 years, he had persistent bloody stools. After lower gastrointestinal endoscopy, he was diagnosed with PCI with numerous rectal cysts. PCI required no specific therapeutic intervention. There was spontaneous resolution of PCI and bloody stools. Given that PCI lacks specific symptoms and cases with muscular diseases often experience abdominal issues, many cases are liable to be overlooked or misdiagnosed. Cases with muscular diseases complaining of persistent abdominal symptoms should undergo radiographic imaging to rule out PCI.

Thyroid-like follicular renal cell carcinoma (TLFRCC), also known as thyroid-like follicular carcinoma of the kidney or thyroid follicular carcinoma like renal tumor, is an exceedingly rare variant of renal cell carcinoma that has only recently been acknowledged. This neoplasm exhibits a distinct follicular morphology resembling that of the thyroid gland. Immunohistochemical analysis reveals positive expression of PAX8, Vimentin, and EMA, while thyroid-specific markers TG and TTF1 are consistently absent. Furthermore, there is a notable absence of any concurrent thyroid pathology on clinical evaluation. Previous reports have suggested that TLFRCC is an indolent, slow-growing malignancy with infrequent metastatic potential. In this report, we present a case of TLFRCC characterized by remarkable ossification and widespread metastasis, including multifocal pulmonary lesions, involvement of the abdominal wall, and infiltration into the psoas muscle. To our knowledge, this represents only the third documented instance of distant metastasis in thyroid follicular renal carcinoma. The current case demonstrates a therapeutic approach that combines radiotherapy with the utilization of toripalimab, a programmed cell death 1 (PD-1) receptor inhibitor, and pazopanib. This treatment regimen was tailored based on comprehensive genomic profiling, which identified mutations in the POLE (catalytic subunit of DNA polymerase epsilon) and ATM (ataxia-telangiectasia mutated) genes, both of which have been implicated in the pathogenesis of various malignant tumors. These findings represent a novel discovery, as such mutations have never been reported in association with TLFRCC. Thus far, this therapeutic approach has proven to be the most efficacious option for treating metastatic TLFRCC among previously reported, and it also marks the first mention of the potential benefits of radiotherapy in managing this particular subtype of renal cell carcinoma.
