The edible mushroom Amanita rubescens Pers., regularly collected and consumed in Slovakia, was assessed for health risk due to the mercury content in its fruiting body parts. For this purpose, 364 both from the soil/substrate and mushroom samples from 40 localities in Slovakia were evaluated. At the same time, 21 samples of 7 developmental stages of the fruiting body of A. rubescens were taken in the Žakýlske pleso locality. The total mercury content in the soil and mushroom samples was determined using an AMA-254 analyzer. The contamination factor (C) and index of geoaccumulation (I) were used to detect the level of soil pollution by mercury. The ability of A. rubescens to accumulate mercury from the soil environment was evaluated using the bioconcentration factor (BCF), and the distribution of mercury in the mushroom body was evaluated using the translocation quotient (Q). To determine the health risks resulting from mushroom consumption, the percentages of provisional tolerable weekly intake (%PTWI) and target hazard quotient (THQ) were used. The obtained results have confirmed serious content of mercury soil pollution, especially in former mining areas, where the situation is alarming from a health risk point of view. Consumption of A. rubescens was found to be risky, not only in former mining areas, but higher values of mercury were also detected in other parts of Slovakia. Evaluation of the developmental stages of the fruiting body of A. rubescens showed that the highest bioconcentration factor was determined at developmental stage no. VI for caps with a value of 2.47 mg kg and developmental stage VII for stipes with a value of 1.65 mg kg DW.

BACKGROUND
As research on psychedelics (hallucinogenic 5-HT agonists) progresses, it is important to delineate the reliability of supposedly unique effects across this drug class. One such effect is how psychedelics impair the formation (i.e., encoding) of hippocampal-dependent recollections (retrieval of specific details) while potentially enhancing the encoding of cortical-dependent familiarity (a feeling of knowing that a stimulus has been previously experienced).
METHODS
In a double-blind, placebo-controlled, within-subjects study (N = 20), we tested the acute effects of two distinct psychedelics, psilocybin and 4-bromo-2,5-dimethoxyphenethylamine (2C-B), on the encoding of emotional episodic memories. During acute drug effects, participants viewed negative, neutral, and positive pictures. The following day (while sober), participants completed two separate memory tests for these pictures.
RESULTS
Using computational models of memory confidence, we found trends for psilocybin and 2C-B at encoding to impair estimates of recollection that were supported by other measures/analyses. Surprisingly, psilocybin and 2C-B at encoding impaired estimates of familiarity, but these impairments were likely due to a misattribution of heightened familiarity, as both drugs at encoding selectively increased familiarity-based false alarms, especially for negative and positive stimuli. Psilocybin and 2C-B at encoding also tended to impair estimates of metamemory (understanding one's own memory) for negative and neutral memories but enhance estimates of metamemory for positive memories, though these effects were less reliable in additional analyses.
CONCLUSIONS
Despite differences in their chemistry, pharmacology, and subjective effects, both psilocybin and 2C-B distort episodic familiarity, alluding to a common neurocognitive mechanism across psychedelics that may drive other phenomena.

BACKGROUND
Poor sleep quality can cause an increase in morning blood pressure surge (MBPS), an independent risk factor of cardiovascular disease (CVD) events. Awakening induced by external factors such as alarm clocks, may also contribute to increased MBPS.
OBJECTIVES
To (1) compare the MBPS and sleep quality parameters between natural and forced awakenings and (2) examine the potential impact of forced awakening on MBPS, independent of sleep quality.
METHODS
Thirty-two healthy adults participated in this pilot study, which included one night of natural awakening and one night of forced awakening (i.e., sleep was interrupted by an alarm after five hours). Objective and self-reported sleep quality parameters were measured using a multisensory wristband and sleep diaries, respectively, and beat-to-beat blood pressure variability was assessed using a continuous blood pressure monitor. Analyses included a paired t-test (objective 1) and linear mixed models (objective 2).
RESULTS
Participants predominantly consisted of young, healthy, and highly educated Asian adults. During the night of sleep with forced awakening, significantly higher MBPS, lower objective wakefulness after sleep onset, and lower self-reported sleep latency were observed, compared to the night with natural awakening. Forced awakening was significantly associated with increased MBPS after controlling for age, sex, mean arterial pressure, and sleep quality.
CONCLUSIONS
Forced awakening may significantly increase MBPS, consequently heightening the risk of CVD events. Study findings should be validated in a larger sample. Further research is also warranted to examine the impact of forced awakening on MBPS in individuals with CVD.

As human skin comes into contact with the tiny hairs or setae of the oak processionary caterpillar, Thaumetopoea processionea, a silent yet intense chemical confrontation occurs. The result is a mix of issues: skin rashes and an intense itching that typically lasts days and weeks after the contact. This discomfort poses a significant health threat not only to humans but also to animals. In Western Europe, the alarming increase in outbreaks extends beyond areas near infested trees due to the dispersion of the setae. Predictions indicate a sustained rise in outbreaks, fueled by global changes favoring the caterpillar's survival and distribution. Currently, the absence of an efficient treatment persists due to significant gaps in our comprehension of the pathophysiology associated with this envenomation. Here, we explored the interaction between the venom extract derived from the setae of T. processionea and voltage- and ligand-gated ion channels and receptors. By conducting electrophysiological analyses, we discovered ex vivo evidence highlighting the significant role of TPTX-Tp1, a peptide toxin from T. processionea, in modulating TRPV1. TPTX-Tp1 is a secapin-like peptide and demonstrates a unique ability to modulate TRPV1 channels in the presence of capsaicin, leading to cell depolarization, itch and inflammatory responses. This discovery opens new avenues for developing a topical medication, suggesting the incorporation of a TRPV1 blocker as a potential solution for the local effects caused by T. processionea.

The present research endeavors to examine the effectiveness of four gridded precipitation datasets, namely Integrated Multi-satellite Retrievals for GPM (IMERG), Tropical Precipitation Measuring Mission (TRMM), Modern-Era Retrospective Analysis for Research and Applications Version 2 (MERRA-2), and Precipitation Estimation from Remotely Sensed Information using Artificial Neural Networks (PERSIANN), with the observed rainfall data of eight rain gauge stations of India Meteorological Department (IMD) from 2001 to 2019 in Kosi River basin, India. Various statistical metrics, contingency tests, trend analysis, and rainfall anomaly index were utilized at daily, monthly, seasonal, and annual time scales. The categorical metrics namely probability of detection (POD) and false alarm ratio (FAR) indicate that MERRA-2 and IMERG datasets have the highest level of concurrence with the observed daily data. Statistical analysis of gridded datasets with observed dataset of IMD showed that the performance of the IMERG dataset is better than MERRA-2, PERSIANN, and TRMM datasets with "very good" coefficient of determination (R) and Nash-Sutcliffe Efficiency values for monthly data. Trend analysis of gridded seasonal data of IMERG showed similar trends of observed seasonal data whereas other dataset differs. IMERG also performed well in identifying wet and dry years based on annual data. Discrepancies of the satellite sensor in capturing the precipitation have also been discussed. Thus, the IMERG dataset can be effectively used for hydro-meteorological and climatological investigations in cases of lack of observed datasets.

Thermoelectric generators (TEGs) are environmentally friendly energy harvesting technologies that hold great promise in the field of self-powered electronics and sensing. However, the current development of thermoelectric (TE) devices has largely lagged behind the development of thermoelectric materials, especially in the preparation of thermoelectric components with customizable shapes and excellent properties, which largely limits their practical applications. These issues can be effectively addressed by using 3D printing technology. Here, we print multiple p-type thermoelectric legs (pins) consecutively with this simple technique, and the printed TEGs have excellent thermal potential (288 μV K at room temperature) and excellent temperature response properties, which exhibited an output voltage of 127.94 mV at a temperature difference (Δ) of 40 K. The 3D-printed thermoelectric generator enables the collection of thermal energy. In addition, the device has excellent temperature sensing characteristics, and this temperature signal to electrical signal conversion is very rapid, which enables temperature sensing alarms in a wide temperature domain. Combining these features, an energy harvesting and electrical alarm concept for home-scale applications is proposed, which is expected to provide a diverse research idea for the application of next-generation thermoelectric devices.

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVE
Escherichia coli is one of the most common bacteria isolated from urine samples collected from dogs and cats with urinary tract infection (UTI). Uncomplicated UTIs in dogs and cats can be treated with short courses of first-line antimicrobial drugs, e.g. amoxicillin, amoxicillin with clavulanic acid, or trimethoprim/sulfonamide. Recurrent or complicated UTIs often require long-term treatment with broad-spectrum antibiotics. However, the choice of drug should be based on antimicrobial susceptibility.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
Between March - September 2022, E. coli isolates cultured from the urine of 66 dogs and 41 cats with UTI symptoms were tested for antimicrobial resistance by using Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC). Antimicrobial susceptibility was tested for ampicillin, ampicillin/sulbactam, cefazolin, cefuroxime, aztreonam, gentamycin, amikacin, colistin, trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, ciprofloxacin, chloramphenicol and tetracycline.
RESULTS
The highest prevalence of resistance was documented for ampicillin (68% in dogs, 100% in cats) and ampicillin with sulbactam (59% in dogs, 54% in cats). The most common antimicrobial resistance patterns of E. coli were ampicillin alone (12 isolates, 29.3% in cats) and beta-lactams, including aztreonam (14 isolates, 21.2% in dogs).
CONCLUSIONS
High resistance to aztreonam (61% and 32% of isolates from dogs and cats, respectively), other beta-lactams, and fluoroquinolones should cause be alarm due to zoonotic potential and cross-transmission of antimicrobial-resistant microorganisms between animals and humans.

BACKGROUND
The incidence rate of oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) worldwide is alarming. In the clinical community, there is a pressing necessity to comprehend the etiology of the OPSCC to facilitate the administration of effective treatments.
METHODS
This study confers an integrative genomics approach for identifying key oncogenic drivers involved in the OPSCC pathogenesis. The dataset contains RNA-Sequencing (RNA-Seq) samples of 46 Human papillomavirus-positive head and neck squamous cell carcinoma and 25 normal Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty cases. The differential marker selection is performed between the groups with a log2FoldChange (FC) score of 2, adjusted -value < 0.01, and screened 714 genes. The Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm selects the candidate gene subset, reducing the size to 73. The state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms are trained with the differentially expressed genes and candidate subsets of PSO.
RESULTS
The analysis of predictive models using Shapley Additive exPlanations revealed that seven genes significantly contribute to the model's performance. These include , , and , which predominantly influence differentiating between sample groups. They were followed in importance by , , , and . The Random Forest and Bayes Net algorithms also achieved perfect validation scores when using PSO features. Furthermore, gene set enrichment analysis, protein-protein interactions, and disease ontology mining revealed a significant association between these genes and the target condition. As indicated by Shapley Additive exPlanations (SHAPs), the survival analysis of three key genes unveiled strong over-expression in the samples from "The Cancer Genome Atlas".
CONCLUSIONS
Our findings elucidate critical oncogenic drivers in OPSCC, offering vital insights for developing targeted therapies and enhancing understanding its pathogenesis.

The alarming state of global insulin access in low-resource settings presents a major barrier to diabetes care. A comprehensive review of these challenges is lacking at the global level. To address this weakness, enhance affordability and build capacity for a more sustainable approach to scaling up access. This review analyzes the specific issue of inconsistent access to insulin in low- and middle-income countries. Using this analysis, we mapped the scope and intensity of issues such as the unaffordability and unavailability of insulin. We also identified six innovative and integrative strategies for increasing and securing accessibility in the areas of policy making, marketing, clinical practice, health education, domestication, and multisectoral approaches.

BACKGROUND
Individuals with anxiety disorders (ADs) often display hypervigilance to threat information, although this response may be less pronounced following psychotherapy. This study aims to investigate the unconscious recognition performance of facial expressions in patients with panic disorder (PD) post-treatment, shedding light on alterations in their emotional processing biases.
METHODS
Patients with PD (n=34) after (exposure-based) cognitive behavior therapy and healthy controls (n=43) performed a subliminal affective recognition task. Emotional facial expressions (fearful, happy, or mirrored) were displayed for 33 ms and backwardly masked by a neutral face. Participants completed a forced choice task to discriminate the briefly presented facial stimulus and an uncovered condition where only the neutral mask was shown. We conducted a secondary analysis to compare groups based on their four possible response types under the four stimulus conditions and examined the correlation of the false alarm rate for fear responses to non-fearful (happy, mirrored, and uncovered) stimuli with clinical anxiety symptoms.
RESULTS
The patient group showed a unique selection pattern in response to happy expressions, with significantly more correct "happy" responses compared to controls. Additionally, lower severity of anxiety symptoms after psychotherapy was associated with a decreased false fear response rate with non-threat presentations.
CONCLUSION
These data suggest that patients with PD exhibited a "happy-face recognition advantage" after psychotherapy. Less symptoms after treatment were related to a reduced fear bias. Thus, a differential facial emotion detection task could be a suitable tool to monitor response patterns and biases in individuals with ADs in the context of psychotherapy.
