Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), a conventional and alternating-current-(AC)-based technique for impedance measurement, is commonly used in battery diagnosis. However, it requires expensive equipment and demanding operating conditions and is complex and model-dependent in data analysis. Recently, novel direct current (DC) analytics have emerged as an alternative to EIS. They are simple yet powerful, being capable of revealing impedance information that traditionally could only be obtained through EIS and determining Li-ion diffusion coefficient. Besides, a complete EIS spectrum can be predicted based on constant current charging curves in the support of machine learning methods. This work highlights the similarities and discrepancies between DC techniques and EIS in the electrochemical analysis of Liion batteries. Looking ahead, DC techniques may be a promising substitute for EIS in future battery diagnosis, requiring simplified equipment while offering a deep understanding of battery impedance and its underlying electrochemical processes.

INTRODUCTION
Zinner Syndrome (ZS), a rare congenital malformation of the mesonephric duct, combines seminal vesicle cyst (SVC) with ipsilateral upper urinary tract abnormalities. Typically asymptomatic in childhood, ZS manifests between 2nd to 4th decades with bladder symptoms, perineal pain and infertility. Diagnostic confirmation with additional imaging is needed when either renal or seminal abnormalities are identified.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
A retrospective study spanning 22 years identified 20 pediatric ZS cases through clinical analytics. Demographic, clinical, and radiological data were analyzed, including presenting complaints, imaging modalities (ultrasound, CT, MRI), and surgical findings. The study was HIPAA-compliant and IRB-approved.
RESULTS
Among 20 cases (mean age: 7.3 years), clinical presentations included asymptomatic cases, urinary symptoms, and abdominal pain. Imaging revealed renal anomalies (agenesis, multicystic dysplastic kidney) and seminal vesicle abnormalities. Surgical interventions (n = 12) addressed symptomatic cases, often involving robotic or laparoscopic procedures.
DISCUSSION
ZS, though rare, presents with varied clinical features, necessitating a multidisciplinary approach. Early diagnosis is facilitated by prenatal identification of renal abnormalities. Surgical intervention is reserved for symptomatic cases, with techniques such as vesiculectomy and resection of remnant structures employed.
CONCLUSION
This study highlights ZS's diverse clinical and radiological spectrum, emphasizing the need for vigilance in detecting overlapping entities. Timely identification, utilizing advanced imaging techniques, is crucial for accurate diagnosis and appropriate management of Zinner Syndrome in the pediatric population.

Levilactobacillus brevis is crucial in food fermentation, particularly in sourdough production. However, the cultivation of L. brevis faces a challenge with accumulation of lactic acid, a major inhibitor. We aimed to increase the acid tolerance of L. brevis, an industrial strain for sourdough fermentation. We used the adaptive laboratory evolution (ALE) to obtain lactic acid tolerant strains. The evolved strain's fermentation and metabolite profiles, alongside sensory evaluation, were compared with the parental strain by using various analytical techniques. The ALE approach increased lactic acid tolerance in the evolved strain showing an increased growth rate by 1.1 and 1.9 times higher than the parental strain at pH 4.1 and 6.5, respectively. Comprehensive analyses demonstrated its potential application in sourdough fermentation, promising reduced downstream costs. The evolved strain, free from genetically modified organisms concerns, has great potential for industrial use by exhibiting enhanced growth in acidic conditions without affecting consumers' bread preferences.

BACKGROUND
Public health is greatly affected by heatwaves, especially as a result of climate change. It is unclear whether heatwaves affect injury hospitalization, especially as developing countries facing the impact of climate change.
OBJECTIVES
To assess the impact of heatwaves on injury-related hospitalization and the economic burden.
METHODS
The daily hospitalizations and meteorological data from 2014 to 2019 were collected from 23 study sites in 11 meteorological geographic zones in China. We conducted a two-stage time series analysis based on a time-stratified case-crossover design, combined with DLNM to assess the association between heatwaves and daily injury hospitalization, and to further assess the regional and national economic losses resulting from hospitalization by calculating excess hospitalization costs (direct economic losses) and labor losses (indirect economic losses). To determine the vulnerable groups and areas, we also carried out stratified analyses by age, sex, and region.
RESULTS
We found that 6.542% (95%CI: 3.939%, 9.008 %) of injury hospitalization were attributable to heatwaves during warm season (May to September) from 2014-2019. Approximately 361,447 injury hospitalizations were attributed to heatwaves each year in China, leading to an excess economic loss of 5.173 (95%CI: 3.104, 7.196) billion CNY, of which 3.114 (95%CI: 1.454, 4.720) billion CNY for males and 4.785 (95%CI: 3.203, 6.321) billion CNY for people aged 15-64 years. The attributable fraction (AF) of injury hospitalizations due to heatwaves was the highest in the plateau mountain climate zone, followed by the subtropical monsoon climate zone and the temperate monsoon climate zone.
CONCLUSIONS
Heatwaves significantly increase the disease and economic burden of injury hospitalizations, and vary across populations and regions. Our findings implicate the necessity for targeted measures, including raising public awareness, improving healthcare infrastructure, and developing climate resilience policies, to reduce the threat of heatwaves to vulnerable populations and the associated disease and economic burden.

Research has indicated unique challenges in audiovisual integration of speech among autistic individuals, although methodological differences have led to divergent findings. We conducted a systematic literature search to identify studies that measured audiovisual speech integration among both autistic and non-autistic individuals. Across the 18 identified studies (combined N = 952), autistic individuals showed impaired audiovisual integration compared to their non-autistic peers (g = 0.69, 95% CI [0.53, 0.85], p <.001). This difference was not found to be influenced by participants' mean ages, studies' sample sizes, risk-of-bias scores, or paradigms investigated. However, a subgroup analysis suggested that child studies may show larger between-group differences than adult ones. The prevailing pattern of impaired audiovisual speech integration in autism may have cascading effects on communicative and social behavior. However, small samples and inconsistency in design/analysis translated into considerable heterogeneity in findings and opacity regarding the influence of underlying unisensory and attentional factors. We recommend three key directions for future research: larger samples, more research with adults, and standardization of methodology and analytical approaches.

First-order compartment models are common tools for modelling many biological processes, including pharmacokinetics. Given the compartments and the transfer rates, solutions for the time-dependent quantity (or concentration) curves can normally be described by a sum of exponentials. This paper investigates cases that go beyond simple sums of exponentials. With specific relations between the transfer rate constants, two exponential rate constants can be equal, in which case the normal solution cannot be used. The conditions for this to occur are discussed, and advice is provided on how to circumvent these cases. An example of an analytic solution is given for the rare case where an exact equality is the expected result. Furthermore, for models with at least three compartments, cases exist where the solution to a real-valued model involves complex-valued exponential rate constants. This leads to solutions with an oscillatory element in the solution for the tracer concentration, i.e., there are cases where the solution is not a simple sum of (real-valued) exponentials but also includes sine and cosine functions. Detailed solutions for three-compartment cases are given. As a tentative conclusion of the analysis, oscillatory solutions appear to be tied to cases with a cyclic element in the model itself.

Quantification of treprostinil concentration in rat and human using a novel validated and rapid liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry method: Experimental and clinical applications in ischemia-reperfusion injury.
Treprostinil (Remodulin®) is a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved prostacyclin analog to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension. Recently, treprostinil has been investigated to reduce ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) during transplantation, which currently has no treatment. A validated analytical method is necessary to measure treprostinil concentrations in biological specimens. Here, a novel, sensitive, and specific method to measure treprostinil concentrations in rat serum, human serum, and human plasma has been developed using liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Biological samples were processed by protein precipitation before chromatography and 6-keto Prostaglandin F1α-d4 was used as an internal standard. A gradient method was established with a total run time of 4 min. The assay was linear over the range of 0.25-75.0 ng/ml with accuracy (92.97-107.87 %), intra-assay precision (1.16-3.34 %), and inter-assay precision (1.11-4.58 %) in all biological matrices, which are within FDA acceptance criteria. No significant variation in treprostinil or 6-keto Prostaglandin F1α-d4 concentrations were observed under different storage conditions. This novel, sensitive, and specific LC/MS-MS method is cost-effective and suitable for measuring treprostinil concentrations in animal studies and human biological samples for clinical applications.

Benzophenone-3 (BP-3), utilized as a UV filter in cosmetic products, is an emerging contaminant that constitutes a threat to natural resources and environmental health. This study investigated the assimilation of the UV filter BP-3 in Crassostrea gigas oysters collected in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil. Lyophilized oyster tissue extracts were prepared using the QuEChERS method, and LC-MS/MS was employed to determine the BP-3 concentration in the samples. The method was applied to specimens intentionally exposed to two concentrations of the contaminant, for different periods of exposure (1 and 7 days). Samples from treatment 1 (T1) were exposed to a concentration of 1 μg L of the BP-3 standard, and samples from treatment 2 (T2) were exposed to a concentration of 100 μg L of the BP-3 standard. The results revealed rapid absorption of BP-3, with an increase of 126% for lower concentrations, reaching 1.13 μg of BP-3 per gram of oyster tissue, and 17% for higher concentrations, reaching 34.6 μg of BP-3 per gram of oyster tissue after 7 days. The presence of BP-3 even in samples not directly exposed to the contaminant indicates its widespread environmental distribution. The rapid bioaccumulation suggests the need to consider seasonal variations, such as increased tourism in the summer. The validated analytical method demonstrated efficacy in quantifying BP-3, providing an integrated approach for long-term monitoring of pollution levels and their dynamic variations over time. In addition, variation in BP-3 levels in the samples may be related to transport patterns influenced by tides and discharges from septic system, highlighting the need to improve wastewater treatment. These findings underscore the necessity for continuous biomonitoring and effective environmental management to safeguard the health of marine ecosystems and humans.

Bamboo leaf extract (BLE) is a pale brown powder extracted from bamboo leaves, and it is listed in the Chinese Standard GB-2760 as a legal and safe food additive. The present study aims to identify and characterize the major flavonoids in BLE. The identification of major flavonoids was carried out using ultra performance liquid chromatography combined with electrospray ionization quadruple time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC/ESI-QTOF-MS/MS). A total of 31 flavonoid compounds were identified and tentatively characterized base on reference standards and MS dissociation mechanisms. HPLC/ESI-QTOF-MS can serve as an important analytical platform to identification structure of bamboo leaf flavonoids (BLF).

There is an ongoing discussion about how to forecast the maximum magnitudes of induced earthquakes based on operational parameters, subsurface conditions and physical process understanding. Although the occurrence of damage caused by induced earthquakes is rare, some cases have caused significant economic loss, injuries and even loss of life. We analysed a global compilation of earthquakes induced by hydraulic fracturing, geothermal reservoir stimulation, water disposal, gas storage and reservoir impoundment. Our analysis showed that maximum magnitudes scale with the characteristic length of pressure diffusion in the brittle Earth's crust. We observed an increase in the nucleation potential of larger-magnitude earthquakes with time and explained it by diffusion-controlled growth of the pressure-perturbed part of faults. Numerical and analytical fault size modelling supported our findings. Finally, we derived magnitude scaling laws to manage induced seismic hazard of upcoming energy projects prior to operation.
