Ameloblastic fibrodentinoma (AFD) is a rare benign odontogenic tumor that resembles an ameloblastic fibroma with dysplastic dentin. This report presents a rare case of mandibular AFD with imaging features in a young patient. Panoramic radiography and computed tomography revealed a well-defined lesion with internal septa and calcified foci, causing inferior displacement of the adjacent molars as well as buccolingual cortical thinning and expansion of the posterior mandible. The lesion was surgically removed via mass excision, and the involved tooth was extracted under general anesthesia. During the 5-year follow-up period, no evidence of recurrence was observed. Radiologic features of AFD typically reveal a moderately to well-defined mixed lesion with varying degrees of radiopacity, reflecting the extent of dentin formation. Radiologists should consider AFD in the differential diagnosis when encountering a multilocular lesion with little dense radiopacity, particularly if it is associated with delayed eruption, impaction, or absence of involved teeth, on radiographic images of young patients.

PURPOSE
Patients with head and neck cancer (HNC) who undergo dental procedures during radiotherapy (RT) face an increased risk of developing osteoradionecrosis (ORN). Accordingly, new tools must be developed to extract critical information regarding the dose delivered to the teeth and mandible. This article proposes a novel approach for visualizing 3-dimensional planned dose distributions on panoramic reconstruction computed tomography (pCT) images.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
Four patients with HNC who underwent volumetric modulated arc therapy were included. One patient experienced ORN and required the extraction of teeth after RT. In the study approach, the dental arch curve (DAC) was defined using an open-source platform. Subsequently, pCT images and dose distributions were generated based on the new coordinate system. All teeth and mandibles were delineated on both the original CT and pCT images. To evaluate the consistency of dose metrics, the Mann-Whitney test and Student -test were employed.
RESULTS
A total of 61 teeth and 4 mandibles were evaluated. The correlation coefficient between the 2 methods was 0.999, and no statistically significant difference was observed (>0.05). This method facilitated a straightforward and intuitive understanding of the delivered dose. In 1 patient, ORN corresponded to the region of the root and the gum receiving a high dosage (approximately 70 Gy).
CONCLUSION
The proposed method particularly benefits dentists involved in the management of patients with HNC. It enables the visualization of a 3-dimensional dose distribution in the teeth and mandible on pCT, enhancing the understanding of the dose delivered during RT.

Polymer vitrimers are a new class of materials that combine the advantages of thermoplastics and thermosets. This is due to the dynamic nature of the chemical bonds linking different chains. However, how this property affects the polymer dynamics at different length scales is still an open question. Here, we investigate the dynamics of model vitrimers based on well-defined polyisoprene (PI) chains using broadband dielectric spectroscopy. In this way, we study the polymer dynamics from the segmental to the whole chain scale, taking advantage of the fact that PI belongs to the class of molecules that exhibit a net dipole moment associated with the end-to-end vector. Three distinct relaxation phenomena are identified. The fastest relaxation is attributed to the segmental PI dynamics with a small influence of the cross-linking. An intermediate relaxation attributed to the dipolar character of the cross-linker is also observed. The slower identified relaxation component, corresponding to limited fluctuations of the end-to-end PI chains, is found to be determined by the dynamics of the clusters formed by the cross-linkers with an average time scale orders of magnitude faster than that of the terminal relaxation as inferred from the viscous flow.

BACKGROUND
Neonatal sepsis is defined as an infection-related condition characterized by signs and symptoms of bacteremia within the first month of life. It is the leading cause of mortality and morbidity among newborns. While several studies have been conducted in other parts of world to assess the usefulness of complete blood count parameters and hemogram-derived markers as early screening tools for neonatal sepsis, the associations between sepsis and its complications with these blood parameters are still being investigated in our setting and are not yet part of routine practice.
AIM
To evaluate the diagnostic significance of complete blood cell count hemogram-derived novel markers for neonatal sepsis among neonates attending public hospitals in the southwest region of Oromia, Ethiopia, through a case control study.
METHODS
A case control study was conducted from October 2021 to October 2023 Sociodemographic, clinical history, and laboratory test results data were collected using structured questionnaires. The collected data were entered into Epi-data 3.1 version and exported to SPSS-25 for analysis. Chi-square, independent sample -test, and receiver operator characteristics curve of curve were used for analysis. A -value of less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant.
RESULTS
In this study, significant increases were observed in the following values in the case group compared to the control group: In white blood cell (WBC) count, neutrophils, monocyte, mean platelet volume (MPV), neutrophils to lymphocyte ratio, monocyte to lymphocyte ratio (MLR), red blood cell width to platelet count ratio (RPR), red blood width coefficient variation, MPV to RPR, and platelet to lymphocyte ratio. Regarding MLR, a cut-off value of ≥ 0.26 was found, with a sensitivity of 68%, a specificity of 95%, a positive predictive value (PPV) of 93.2%, and a negative predictive value (NPV) of 74.8%. The area under the curve (AUC) was 0.828 ( < 0.001). For WBC, a cut-off value of ≥ 11.42 was identified, with a sensitivity of 55%, a specificity of 89%, a PPV of 83.3%, and a NPV of 66.4%. The AUC was 0.81 ( < 0.001). Neutrophils had a sensitivity of 67%, a specificity of 81%, a PPV of 77.9%, and a NPV of 71.1%. The AUC was 0.801, with a cut-off value of ≥ 6.76 ( = 0.001). These results indicate that they were excellent predictors of neonatal sepsis diagnosis.
CONCLUSION
The findings of our study suggest that certain hematological parameters and hemogram-derived markers may have a potential role in the diagnosis of neonatal sepsis.

Fetal head position significantly influences birth outcomes, with higher rates of complications observed when the fetal head is in the Occiput Posterior (OP) position compared to Occiput Transverse (OT) or Occiput Anterior (OA) positions. There is no consensus in the current literature on the precise rotational point at which the fetal occiput shifts from posterior to transverse, reducing clarity in both scientific and clinical communication. Different studies employ varying definitions of these positions, which affects management decisions. This study aims to determine if a definable threshold exists between the directly posterior and directly transverse positions that correlates with different birth outcomes, thereby proposing a consistent and clinically useful definition for OP versus OT. We analyzed ultrasound data from 570 patients at full dilatation from five previous studies, correlating the angle of the fetal occiput (noted on a clock-face) with birth outcomes. Adverse outcomes were defined as cesarean delivery, instrumental vaginal delivery, significant postpartum hemorrhage (500 ml or more), obstetric anal sphincter injury, five-minute Apgar scores <7, arterial cord pH <7, base excess less than -12, or neonatal intensive care unit admission. The analysis was conducted using SAS version 9.4. The study found a continuous relationship between the fetal occipital angle and adverse birth outcomes without a distinct threshold separating OP from OT positions. No clear inflection point was demonstrated in pregnancy outcomes between OT and OP. The relationship between the angle of occiput position and pregnancy outcomes was continuous: the closer the fetal head was to directly OP, the higher the likelihood of adverse outcomes. Given the lack of a clear cut-off and to improve consistency in future research, we recommend dividing the occiput position into four quadrants of 90 degrees each. This classification could standardize reporting and potentially improve clinical decision-making regarding fetal position during labor.

Auto-segmentation is one of the critical and foundational steps for medical image analysis. The quality of auto-segmentation techniques influences the efficiency of precision radiology and radiation oncology since high-quality auto-segmentations usually require limited manual correction. Segmentation metrics are necessary and important to evaluate auto-segmentation results and guide the development of auto-segmentation techniques. Currently widely applied segmentation metrics usually compare the auto-segmentation with the ground truth in terms of the overlapping area (e.g., Dice Coefficient (DC)) or the distance between boundaries (e.g., Hausdorff Distance (HD)). However, these metrics may not well indicate the manual mending effort required when observing the auto-segmentation results in clinical practice. In this article, we study different segmentation metrics to explore the appropriate way of evaluating auto-segmentations with clinical demands. The mending time for correcting auto-segmentations by experts is recorded to indicate the required mending effort. Five well-defined metrics, the overlapping area-based metric DC, the segmentation boundary distance-based metric HD, the segmentation boundary length-based metrics surface DC (surDC) and added path length (APL), and a newly proposed hybrid metric Mendability Index (MI) are discussed in the correlation analysis experiment and regression experiment. In addition to these explicitly defined metrics, we also preliminarily explore the feasibility of using deep learning models to predict the mending effort, which takes segmentation masks and the original images as the input. Experiments are conducted using datasets of 7 objects from three different institutions, which contain the original computed tomography (CT) images, the ground truth segmentations, the auto-segmentations, the corrected segmentations, and the recorded mending time. According to the correlation analysis and regression experiments for the five well-defined metrics, the variety of MI shows the best performance to indicate the mending effort for sparse objects, while the variety of HD works best when assessing the mending effort for non-sparse objects. Moreover, the deep learning models could well predict efforts required to mend auto-segmentations, even without the need of ground truth segmentations, demonstrating the potential of a novel and easy way to evaluate and boost auto-segmentation techniques.

Severe acute malnutrition (SAM), defined anthropometrically as a weight-for-length z-score more than 3 standard deviations below the mean (WLZ<-3), affects 19 million children under 5-years-old worldwide. Complete anthropometric recovery after standard inventions is rare with children often left with moderate acute malnutrition (MAM; WLZ -2 to -3). Here we conduct a randomized controlled trial (RCT), involving 12-18-month-old Bangladeshi children from urban and rural sites, who after hospital-based treatment for SAM received a 3-month intervention with a microbiota-directed complementary food (MDCF-2) or a ready-to-use supplementary food (RUSF) as they transitioned to MAM. The rate of WLZ improvement was significantly greater with MDCF-2 than the more calorically-dense RUSF, as we observed in a previous RCT of Bangladeshi children with MAM without antecedent SAM. A correlated meta-analysis of aptamer-based measurements of 4,520 plasma proteins in this and the prior RCT revealed 215 proteins positively-associated with WLZ (prominently those involved in musculoskeletal and CNS development) and 44 negatively-associated proteins (related to immune activation), with a significant enrichment in levels of the positively WLZ-associated proteins in the MDCF-2 arm. Characterizing changes in 754 bacterial metagenome-assembled genomes in serially collected fecal samples disclosed the effects of acute rehabilitation for SAM on the microbiome, its transition as each child achieves a state of MAM, and how specific strains of Prevotella copri function at the intersection between MDCF-2 glycan metabolism and the rescue of growth faltering. These results provide a rationale for further testing the generalizability of the efficacy of MDCF and identify biomarkers for defining treatment responses.

Malignant Melanoma that resists immunotherapy remains the deadliest form of skin cancer owing to poor clinically lasting responses. Alternative like genotoxic or targeted chemotherapy trigger various cancer cell fates after treatment including cell death and senescence. Senescent cells can be eliminated using senolytic drugs and we hypothesize that the targeted elimination of therapy-induced senescent melanoma cells could complement both conventional and immunotherapies. We utilized a panel of cells representing diverse mutational background relevant to melanoma and found that they developed distinct senescent phenotypes in response to treatment. A genotoxic combination therapy of carboplatin-paclitaxel or irradiation triggered a mixed response of cell death and senescence, irrespective of BRAF mutation profiles. DNA damage-induced senescent melanoma cells exhibited morphological changes, residual DNA damage, and increased senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP). In contrast, dual targeted inhibition of Braf and Mek triggered a different mixed cell fate response including senescent-like and persister cells. While persister cells could reproliferate, senescent-like cells were stably arrested, but without detectable DNA damage and senescence-associated secretory phenotype. To assess the sensitivity to senolytics we employed a novel real-time imaging-based death assay and observed that Bcl2/Bcl-XL inhibitors and piperlongumine were effective in promoting death of carboplatin-paclitaxel and irradiation-induced senescent melanoma cells, while the mixed persister cells and senescent-like cells resulting from Braf-Mek inhibition remained unresponsive. Interestingly, a direct synergy between Bcl2/Bcl-XL inhibitors and Braf-Mek inhibitors was observed when used out of the context of senescence. Overall, we highlight diverse hallmarks of melanoma senescent states and provide evidence of context-dependent senotherapeutics that could reduce treatment resistance while also discussing the limitations of this strategy in human melanoma cells.

Animal and plant colouration presents a striking dimension of phenotypic variation, the study of which has driven general advances in ecology, evolution, and animal behaviour. Quantitative Colour Pattern Analysis (QCPA) is a dynamic framework for analysing colour patterns through the eyes of non-human observers. However, its extensive array of user-defined image processing and analysis tools means image analysis is often time-consuming. This hinders the full use of analytical power provided by QCPA and its application to large datasets. Here, we offer a robust and comprehensive batch script, allowing users to automate many QCPA workflows. We also provide a complimentary set of useful R scripts for downstream data extraction and analysis. The presented batch processing extension will empower users to further utilise the analytical power of QCPA and facilitate the development of customised semi-automated workflows. Such quantitatively scaled workflows are crucial for exploring colour pattern spaces and developing ever-richer frameworks for analysing organismal colouration accounting for visual perception in animals other than humans. These advances will, in turn, facilitate testing hypotheses on the function and evolution of vision and signals at quantitative and qualitative scales, which are otherwise computationally unfeasible.

Delivering cancer control at scale for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities is a national priority that requires Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leadership and codesign, as well as significant involvement of the Aboriginal community-controlled health sector. The unique genomic variation observed among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples may have implications for standard and precision medicine. Yet, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are absent from, or under-represented within, human reference genome resources, genomic studies, cancer studies, cancer cell lines, patient-derived xenografts and cancer clinical trials. Genomics-guided precision cancer medicine offers an opportunity to reduce cancer health disparities experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through personalising prevention, diagnosis, treatment and long term management. Here, we describe what is required to ensure that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples can receive the benefits of precision cancer medicine. Equity of access to care, an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cancer workforce, and appropriate genome reference resources are important for safe and effective cancer medicine. Building Indigenous data sovereignty principles and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander governance into research is required to protect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander rights and collective interests. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community engagement should be undertaken to develop an understanding of the unique cultural and ethical considerations for precision cancer research. Local and national genomic health research guidelines are needed to define a consensus best practice in genomics research with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
