BACKGROUND
This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of using animation as education material for family empowerment program on perioperative care for caregivers whose children were to undergo neurosurgery.
METHODS
A total of 204 caregivers were randomly assigned to either the face-to-face oral nursing educated group (Oral Group) or the animation-assisted nursing educated group (Animated Group). The nursing education primarily focused on instructing caregivers about the manual vibration method. The primary outcome of interest in this study was participants' knowledge level, collected by a 10-item questionnaire. Secondary outcomes included child patients' clinical data, including hospitalization days, treatments, and signs of pneumonia.
RESULTS
Participants in the Animated Group exhibited significantly higher accuracy in perioperative care knowledge assessment, and patients in this group had a lower chance of requiring atomization therapy compared to the Oral Group.
CONCLUSIONS
The animation-assisted nursing education program effectively enhances pediatric caregivers' knowledge, reduces respiratory complications after surgery, and offers valuable insights for future studies on the use of such programs to instruct caregivers.

OBJECTIVE
This study aimed to show the association between internet addiction (IA), sleep quality, and psycho-social problems among secondary school students DESIGN: A cross-sectional, descriptive, and correlational study design was used.
SAMPLE
A total of 557 students from four secondary schools in Erbil were selected using multistage cluster sampling MEASUREMENTS: The questionnaires of this research contained socio-demographic data, Internet Addiction Test (IAT), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and Pediatric Symptom Checklist-Y (PSC-Y) questionnaire.
RESULTS
Findings indicated that students displayed a mild IA, averaging a score of 42.9 ± 19.18. Furthermore, the average sleep quality (PSQI) score was 8.95 ± 2.75, indicating moderate sleep disturbance, and the average score for psycho-social problems was 27.78 ± 13.29. Importantly, there was a strong and positive association between IA and psycho-social issues, as shown by a correlation coefficient of 0.31 (p < .001). Sleep quality was correlated with IA and psychosocial issues (p < .001, correlation values: .23 and .27, respectively) CONCLUSIONS: The study highlights the urgent need for health policymakers and nursing managers in Erbil to develop targeted interventions, such as awareness campaigns and digital well-being programs in school curricula, to mitigate the interlinked issues of IA, sleep quality, and psycho-social problems among students.

OBJECTIVE
This scoping review aims to identify and map interventions and/or strategies used to support the initiation and continuation of breastfeeding for women at risk of delaying initiation, early cessation, or not breastfeeding due to low levels of education, psychosocial problems, and/or socioeconomic challenges in high-income countries.
INTRODUCTION
While breastfeeding has lifelong beneficial health effects for women and infants, there is a risk of delaying initiation, early cessation, or not initiating breastfeeding at all due to factors related to health inequalities, such as low levels of education, psychosocial problems, and/or socioeconomic constraints.
INCLUSION CRITERIA
This review will include eligible quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods studies, as well as systematic reviews and gray literature. We will encompass studies conducted in high-income countries, focusing on interventions and/or strategies to support women with low levels of education, psychosocial problems, and/or socioeconomic constraints in the initiation and continuation of breastfeeding for up to 6 months postpartum.
METHODS
This review will follow the JBI methodology for scoping reviews, using the Participants, Concept, and Context framework. The primary search will be performed in the following databases: MEDLINE (PubMed), PsycINFO (EBSCOhost), Embase (Ovid), and CINAHL (EBSCOhost). We will include publications in English, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, German, Bulgarian, Arabic, and Spanish, published from 1991 until the present. A data charting form will be developed and applied to all the included articles.

BACKGROUND
Pediatric patients receiving neurologic and neurosurgical critical care undergo many procedures that result in stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system, which increases their risk of poor outcomes. Nurses typically implement a variety of interventions to minimize such stimulation; however, minimal stimulation has not been specifically defined in the literature or described as a standardized bundle of care.
OBJECTIVE
To examine pediatric intensive care unit nurses' interpretation and practice of minimal stimulation in patients with neurologic and neurosurgical conditions and specifically to triangulate nurses' descriptions of this practice with related findings in the literature.
METHODS
This was a qualitative, descriptive, exploratory study that used naturalistic inquiry.
RESULTS
A total of 13 pediatric intensive care unit nurses participated in the study. Three primary themes were identified regarding minimal stimulation: (1) new knowledge and practice, (2) communication, and (3) impact of minimal stimulation.
CONCLUSIONS
The findings of this study help to establish a working definition of the nursing practice of minimal stimulation and provide a basis for future research. More detailed study is needed on the concept of a standardized minimal stimulation bundle and its impact on patient outcomes.

Prospective antimicrobial stewardship interventions by multidisciplinary teams to reduce neonatal antibiotic use in South Africa: the Neonatal Antimicrobial Stewardship (NeoAMS) study.
BACKGROUND
Hospitalised neonates are vulnerable to infection and have high rates of antibiotic utilisation.
METHODS
Fourteen South African neonatal units (seven public, seven private sector) assembled multidisciplinary teams involving neonatologists, microbiologists, pharmacists, and nurses to implement prospective audit and feedback neonatal antimicrobial stewardship (NeoAMS) interventions. The teams attended seven online training sessions. Pharmacists conducted weekday antibiotic prescription reviews in the neonatal intensive care unit and/or neonatal wards providing feedback to the clinical teams. Anonymised demographic and NeoAMS interventions data were aggregated for descriptive purposes and statistical analysis.
FINDINGS
During the 20-week NeoAMS intervention in 2022, 565 neonates were enrolled. Pharmacists evaluated seven hundred antibiotic prescription episodes; rule-out sepsis (180; 26%) and culture-negative sepsis (138; 20%) were the most frequent indications for antibiotic prescription. For infection episodes with an identified pathogen, only 51% (116/229) of empiric treatments provided adequate antimicrobial coverage. Pharmacists recommended 437 NeoAMS interventions (0·6 per antibiotic prescription episode), with antibiotic discontinuation (42%), therapeutic drug monitoring (17%), and dosing (15%) recommendations most frequent. Neonatal clinicians' acceptance rates for AMS recommendations were high (338; 77%). Mean antibiotic length of therapy decreased by 24% from 9·1 to 6·9 days (0·1 day decrease per intervention week; p=0·001), with the greatest decline in length of therapy for culture-negative sepsis (8·2 days (95%CI 5·7-11·7) to 5·9 days (95% CI 4·6-7·5); p=0·032).
INTERPRETATION
This neonatal AMS programme was successfully implemented in heterogenous and resource-limited settings. Pharmacist-recommended AMS interventions had high rates of clinician acceptance. The NeoAMS intervention significantly reduced neonatal antibiotic use, particularly for culture-negative sepsis.

PURPOSE
This study presents a systematic review of the obstacles to and enablers of family-centered care (FCC) implementation by nurses. FCC, which has demonstrated beneficial outcomes, is regarded as a crucial quality measure in certain pediatric units. However, not all nurses incorporate FCC into their practice.
DESIGN AND METHODS
A systematic review was conducted from January to June 2023, adhering to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Various medical subject heading keywords and terms were used to search electronic databases, with the aim of synthesizing and evaluating the results.
RESULTS
Twenty-three articles were identified for review. Most of these studies were carried out in Western countries. They revealed several facilitators and obstacles to FCC implementation by nurses when caring for sick children. Some of these factors are linked to the personal attributes of the nurses, while others are associated with the characteristics of the families and the healthcare system itself.
CONCLUSION
Nurses face multi-level barriers that hinder their ability to implement FCC practice. This systematic review identifies the need to leverage nurses' attributes, foster effective nurse-client relationships, and promote organizational changes.
PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS
Nurses need to comprehend and work toward altering the factors that influence the delivery of FCC. The findings of this review can be used by healthcare organization leaders and policymakers to customize interventions and allocate resources to promote FCC practice. Further research in diverse cultural contexts is needed to examine the cause-and-effect relationship concerning the influence of the identified barriers and facilitators on FCC practice. In addition, experimental studies are required to evaluate the effectiveness of evidence-based interventions on FCC practice by nurses.

The effects of a hospital-to-home care transition program on perceived stress and readiness for hospital discharge in mothers of children with congenital heart disease undergoing corrective surgery.
BACKGROUND
The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of a hospital-to-home care transition (H2H-CT) program on perceived stress and readiness for hospital discharge (RHD) in mothers of children with congenital heart disease (CHD) undergoing corrective surgery.
METHODS
This study used a quasi-experimental design and involved 78 mother-child dyads, 40 dyads in the intervention group and 38 dyads in the control group, who were affected by CHD undergoing corrective surgery. The participants received the H2H-CT program, which consisted of six face-to-face training sessions during hospitalization and six telephone counselling sessions. For perceived stress, data were collected at four intervals, including baseline, immediately, one month and three months after completion of the intervention. For RHD, data were collected at two times: baseline and immediately after the intervention.
RESULTS
The results demonstrated a statistically significant reduction in the mean perceived stress score in mothers of children with CHD in intervention group before, immediately, four weeks and eight weeks after H2H-CT (P < 0.001). The results also indicated a significant increase in the mean RHD score in the intervention group following H2H-CT (P < 0.001).
CONCLUSION
The H2H-CT program was found to be an effective intervention in reducing perceived stress and increasing RHD in mothers of children with CHD who undergoing corrective surgery.
IMPLICATIONS TO PRACTICE
The results can be used by the nursing planners, nursing instructors, and pediatric nurses to use the results to enhance the mental health of mothers and enable them to provide quality care at home.

PROBLEM
Many children with epilepsy face challenges in adhering to their medication, leading to inadequate seizure control. However, the most effective intervention is still unclear. This integrative review's main goal was to examine and synthesize the existing literature on interventions for promoting medication adherence in children with epilepsy.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
This integrative review followed Whittemore and Knafl's five-stage framework. Four electronic databases (PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus, and CINAHL Complete) were systematically searched from 2013 until 2024 to identify eligible studies published in the English language. The key search terms included "Children with epilepsy" AND "medication adherence" AND "intervention." Studies reporting on the implementation and evaluation of medication adherence interventions in children with epilepsy were eligible. Quality assessment and narrative synthesis were subsequently undertaken.
SAMPLE
A total of 17 studies were included in the review.
RESULTS
Five interventions were found, including educational, behavioral, and mixed intervention types, using technology and family involvement. Promoting medication adherence is crucial, but tailored interventions for different age groups and sustained support are needed.
CONCLUSIONS
Promoting medication adherence is of utmost importance to enhance the knowledge of children who have epilepsy and their families, and to increase medication adherence. However, there is still a need to develop interventions that are appropriate for children of different ages and their families, which should be suitable and sustainable during treatment.
IMPLICATIONS
Pediatric nurses should consider socioeconomic factors, ethnicity, family functioning, and parental distress. Strategies include monitoring adherence, continuous communication, and technology support for children with epilepsy during treatment.

AIM
To determine the effect of music applied during the ROP examination on pain, comfort, and physiological parameters in preterm infants.
METHODS
The sample of this prospective randomized controlled double-blind experimental study consisted of 28 preterm infants who were examined for ROP of a tertiary hospital in the Neonatal Unit. Data were collected with a Questionnaire, Physiological Parameters Observation Form (PPOF), Revised-Premature Infant Pain Profile (PIPP-R), and Premature Infant Comfort Scale (PICS).
RESULTS
The results revealed that the crying times of the infants in the experimental group were shorter than the infants in the control group. The preterm infants in the experimental group had statistically lower PIPP-R scores during and after the procedure than the PIPP-R scores of the infants in the control group (p < 0.001) and the music applied to the preterm infants resulted in a mean decrease of 3.857 in the post-procedure and pre-procedure PIPP-R scores (p < 0.05). While there was no statistical difference between the pre-procedure and pre-procedural PICS scores of the preterm infants in the experimental and control groups (p = 0.599; p = 117), the post-procedure PICS values of the preterm infants in the experimental group were found to be lower than those of the control group (p < 0.001). It was found that the music applied to preterm infants during the ROP examination resulted in a mean decrease of 1.286 in PICS scores after the procedure and before the procedure (p < 0.05).
CONCLUSION
It was determined that the music listened to during the ROP examination decreased the PIPP-R pain scores of preterm infants, had a positive effect on the PICS scores after the procedure, but did not affect the physiological parameters positively.
