BACKGROUND
Fibroblast activation protein-α (FAP), a type-II transmembrane serine protease, is associated with wound healing, cancer-associated fibroblasts, and chronic fibrosing diseases. However, its expression in deep vein thrombosis (DVT) remains unclear. Therefore, this study investigated FAP expression and localization in DVT.
METHODS
We performed pathological analyses of the aspirated thrombi of patients with DVT (n = 14), classifying thrombotic areas in terms of fresh, cellular lysis, and organizing reaction components. The organizing reaction included endothelialization and fibroblastic reaction. We immunohistochemically examined FAP-expressed areas and cells, and finally analyzed FAP expression in cultured dermal fibroblasts.
RESULTS
All the aspirated thrombi showed a heterogeneous mixture of at least two of the three thrombotic areas. Specifically, 83 % of aspirated thrombi showed fresh and organizing reaction components. Immunohistochemical expression of FAP was restricted to the organizing area. Double immunofluorescence staining showed that FAP in the thrombi was mainly expressed in vimentin-positive or α-smooth muscle actin-positive fibroblasts. Some CD163-positive macrophages expressed FAP. FAP mRNA and protein levels were higher in fibroblasts with low-proliferative activity cultured under 0.1 % fetal bovine serum (FBS) than that under 10 % FBS. Fibroblasts cultured in 10 % FBS showed a significant decrease in FAP mRNA levels following supplementation with hemin, but not with thrombin.
CONCLUSIONS
The heterogeneous composition of venous thrombi suggests a multistep thrombus formation process in human DVT. Further, fibroblasts or myofibroblasts may express FAP during the organizing process. FAP expression may be higher in fibroblasts with low proliferative activity.

Linkages between childhood emotional maltreatment and adulthood marital attitudes among rural first-generation college students in China: A latent profile analysis and multigroup comparisons.
BACKGROUND
Although there is a wealth of evidence indicating the enduring consequences of childhood emotional maltreatment (CEM) on social and relational functioning across life stages, little known about how CEM affects marital attitudes in emerging adulthood, particularly among rural first-generation college students (rural FGCS) at the critical stage of developing romantic relationships.
OBJECTIVE
To explore whether differential patterns of CEM existed among rural FGCS in China during emerging adulthood. Furthermore, the study aims to examine the potential differences in the chain mediating role of CEM on the pathway to adulthood marital attitudes across different CEM profiles.
PARTICIPANTS AND SETTING
Using a cluster sampling approach, a total of 3848 rural first-generation college freshmen (males = 39.2 %, mean age = 18.42 years) were recruited from three universities in China.
METHODS
Latent profile analysis was utilized to identify potential patterns of CEM using Mplus version 7.4. Structural equation modeling and multigroup comparisons were then performed to investigate the association between CEM and attitudes towards marriage in emerging adulthood, utilizing AMOS 24.0.
RESULTS
Three profiles of CEM was identified among rural FGCS: a low-CEM group (51.87 %), a moderate-CEM group (36.69 %), and a severe-CEM group (11.44 %). The association between CEM and adulthood marital attitudes was mediated by core self-evaluation and meaning in life. However, the mediation effects varied across the three CEM profiles. In the low-CEM group, core self-evaluation and meaning in life were observed to partially mediate the negative association between CEM and adulthood marital attitudes. On the other hand, in the moderate-CEM and severe-CEM groups, the relationship between CEM and adulthood marital attitudes was fully mediated by core self-evaluation.
CONCLUSIONS
The study's findings suggest that CEM is a significant predictor of marital attitudes among rural FGCS during emerging adulthood, with the severity of emotional neglect and abuse being the primary distinguishing factor between different CEM profiles. Core self-evaluation plays an important role in this relationship. Future clinical interventions could benefit from focusing on enhancing core self-evaluation and meaning in life, particularly for those with CEM experiences.

The development of sustainable advanced energy conversion technologies and efficient pollutant treatment processes is a viable solution to the two global crises of the lack of non-renewable energy resources and environmental harm. In recent years, the interaction of biological and chemical oxidation units to utilize biomass has been extensively studied. Among these systems, bio-electro-Fenton (BEF) and photo-bio-electro-Fenton (PBEF) systems have shown prospects for application due to making rational and practical conversion and use of energy. This review compared and analyzed the electron transfer mechanisms in BEF and PBEF systems, and systematically summarized the techniques for enhancing system performance based on the generation, transfer, and utilization of electrons, including increasing the anode electron recovery efficiency, enhancing the generation of reactive oxygen species, and optimizing operational modes. This review compared the effects of different methods on the electron flow process and fully evaluated the benefits and drawbacks. This review may provide straightforward suggestions and methods to enhance the performance of BEF and PBEF systems and inspire the reader to explore the generation and utilization of sustainable energy more deeply.

AIM OF THE STUDY
To study the cross-border regulation of immunity and energy metabolism by ginseng miRNA156, and to provide a new perspective for further exploring the possibility of ginseng miRNA156 as a pharmacodynamic substance.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
Combined with the previous research results of our research group, miRNA156 with high expression in blood sequencing of intragastrically administered with ginseng decoction was selected. Bioinformatics analysis was performed on the selected differential miRNA156. The target genes of differential miRNA156 were mainly enriched in metabolic, immune and other signaling pathways. According to the analysis results, the experimental part will use qi deficiency fatigue model and RAW264.7 cells. The contents of lactic acid (LA), creatine kinase (CK), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), lactate dehydrogenase (LD), liver glycogen (LG), muscle glycogen (MG), interleukin 4 (IL-4), matrix metallo-proteinase 9 (MMP-9), superoxide dismutase (SOD), malondialdehyde, phosphor-enolpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK), glucose-6-phosphatase (G6pase), nitric oxide (NO) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) were measured after administration of miRNA156.
RESULTS
Ginseng miRNA156 can accelerate the removal of metabolic waste during exercise. Increase the glycogen reserve in, provide energy for the body, regulate the activity of key gluconeogenesis enzyme phosphorus, improve the energy metabolism system of, and enhance the endurance of fatigue mice. The contents of matrix metalloproteinase 9, superoxide dismutase and malondialdehyde were affected, and the content of TNF-α in the supernatant of RAW264.7 cells was significantly increased, which had certain antioxidant capacity and potential immunomodulatory effects.
CONCLUSION
Ginseng miRNA156 has a certain regulatory effect on the energy metabolism and immune function of mice, which makes it possible to regulate the cross-species regulation of ginseng miRNA in theory, provides ideas for ginseng miRNA to become a new pharmacodynamic substance.

Selective oxidation of sulfur mustard gas (HD) to non-toxic sulfoxide by the visible-light-catalyzed generation of singlet oxygen (O) is a promising degradation strategy. Although PCN-224 can absorb visible light, it suffers from rapid electron-hole recombination and low redox capacity, which limits the performance of HD degradation. Titanium dioxide (TiO) is an excellent photocatalyst but it lacks visible-light-activity in degrading HD. In this study, PCN-224@TiO heterojunction with S-type core-shell structure was synthesized by in-situ growth method to prolong the visible light absorption capacity of TiO and inhibit the rapid recombination of PCN-224. The interface formation and internal electric field were optimized by adjusting the Zr/Ti ratio to enhance the charge transfer, redox capacity, electron-hole separation, and visible light absorption. In this study, the formation of heterojunction composites based on Zr-O-Ti linkages is demonstrated by a series of characterization methods. It is demonstrated by experiments and theoretical calculations that PCN-224@TiO can generate nearly 100 % O under visible light conditions without a sacrificial agent, resulting in efficient and selective oxidation of 2-chloroethyl ethyl sulfide (CEES), a simulant of HD, to non-toxic sulfoxide form.

BACKGROUND
Severe acute respiratory syndrome related coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) bronchiolitis has arisen with the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. There is a paucity of literature on SARS-CoV-2 bronchiolitis.
OBJECTIVE
The purpose of our paper was to review and compare outcomes in bronchiolitis due to severe acute respiratory syndrome related coronavirus 2 (SARS- CoV-2) and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). We also performed a subgroup analysis of two disrupted RSV seasons during the pandemic.
METHODS
This was a retrospective study from a US TriNetX database from March 1, 2020-January 1, 2023. Propensity matching was utilized for confounders.
RESULTS
There was a total of 3,592 patients (1,796 in each group) after propensity matching. There was an increased risk of oxygen saturation ≤95 % (RR=1.50 95 % CI 1.58-1.94, p = 0.002) and ICU admission (RR=1.44 95 % CI 1.06-1.94, p = 0.02) in those with SARS- CoV-2 but not for oxygen saturation ≤90 % (RR=1.03 95 %CI 0.75-1.42, p = 0.85) or intubation (RR=0.73 95 % CI 0.35-1.47, p = 0.37). There was a decreased risk of a patient with SARS- CoV-2 bronchiolitis being hospitalized (RR=0.65 95 % CI 0.57-0.74, p < 0.0001), respiratory rate ≥60 (RR=0.64 95 % CI 0.48-0.88, p < 0.001) or ≥70 (RR=0.64 95 % CI 0.43-0.96, p = 0.03) when compared to RSV bronchiolitis. Specifically examining SARS- CoV-2 versus RSV bronchiolitis during the delayed RSV seasons, during the first season both infections were not severe, but during the second RSV bronchiolitis season, patients infected with RSV had less risk of ICU admission compared to those infected with SARS- CoV-2.
CONCLUSION
SARS- CoV-2 bronchiolitis patients appeared to have more severe outcomes since the risk of ICU admission was higher for these patients. Also, during the second delayed RSV season, SARS- CoV-2 bronchiolitis was more severe than RSV bronchiolitis.

INTRODUCTION
Cutaneous traction is used to temporize lower extremity fractures and relies on friction between the skin and surrounding material to apply a longitudinal force. This circumferential compressive force can lead to pressure sores, skin sloughing, or compressive neuropathies. These complications have been reported in up to 11% of patients when the cutaneous traction relies on adhesive tapes, plaster, and rubber bandages being in immediate contact with the skin. The rates of these complications are not well documented when using modern foam boots.
METHODS
A retrospective chart review was performed on all orthopedic trauma patients who suffered pelvic or lower extremity injuries between March 1st, 2020 and April 30th, 2021 at a single Level-1 trauma center. We included all patients with femoral fractures, axially unstable pelvic ring and/or acetabular fractures, and unstable hip dislocations temporized with the use of cutaneous traction. All patients had intact skin and lower extremity nerve function prior to application.
RESULTS
There were 138 patients identified with 141 lower extremities. The average patient age was 50.7 (6-100) years. Mean traction weight of 9.8 (5-20) pounds. Average traction duration was 20.9 (2.3-243.5) hours. At the time of traction removal, there was 1 (0.7%) new skin wound and 0 nerve palsies. The new skin wound was a stage one heel pressure sore and did not require further treatment.
CONCLUSION
Cutaneous traction with a modern foam boot was found to have a skin complication rate of 0.7% and a nerve palsy complication rate of 0% for an overall complication rate of 0.7%, which has not been previously established and is lower than historically reported complication rates of 11% when utilizing adhesive and plaster directly on skin. Foam boot Cutaneous traction may be considered a safe option for traction placement.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE
Arterial aneurysm is a serious condition caused by weakened arterial walls. Aorto-uni-iliac (AUI) and femorofemoral bypass are safe and effective options for managing abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). However, fem-fem bypass leads to longer surgical procedures and introduces additional risks such as graft infection, occlusion, wound complications, and peripheral vascular problems. This report highlights two successful cases of AAA management using the AUI approach without the need for fem-fem bypass.
CASE PRESENTATION
Two male patients, both aged about 70, presented at our medical facility complaining of abdominal pain. Investigations unveiled an approximately 10-cm AAA that was previously undetected. Subsequently, we performed an elective AUI procedure without fem-fem bypass, marking the first instance of this technique being employed in Iran successfully.
CLINICAL DISCUSSION
The placement of an AUI stent graft is generally less technically demanding compared to that of a standard bifurcated graft, especially when anatomical constraints are severe, making the latter difficult or even impossible to deploy. Beside the longer duration of stent deployment, sometimes we encounter contralateral complications to cannulate the main body. The AUI is typically used in emergency situations or when the distal aorta's internal diameter is small. The femoral-femoral bypass is advised in nearly all circumstances.
CONCLUSION
AUI stent grafts are still a viable option for treatments of AAA, especially in cases of severe aortoiliac occlusive disease or comorbidities. AUI without crossover bypass is a viable option in the patients who have stenosis of contralateral iliac artery.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE
Repairing incisional abdominal wall hernia with nonabsorbable meshes is one of the most common procedures in general surgery. Mesh migration into the intestine is rare but a serious complication. It can occur months or even years after surgery and often presents with vague abdominal pain, making diagnosis tricky.
CASE PRESENTATION
We report a rare case of a 52-year-old female presenting a small bowel obstruction secondary to mesh migration from the abdominal wall into the intestine, 10 years after repeated surgical repair of a ventral incisional hernia. At surgery, a mesh was migrated into a small bowl. The patient had a small bowel resection. The postoperative course was simple and the patient was discharged after 5 days.
CASE DISCUSSION
Incisional hernia repair with mesh is one of the most commonly performed surgical procedures worldwide. Many complications have been linked to the use of mesh; among the most frequently reported are seromas, hematomas, and infections. Mesh migration remains an uncommon event after incisional hernia repair, and even rarer when considering complete migration within the intestinal lumen. The exact cause of this complication remains unknown. Multiple hypotheses have been proposed for mesh migration. Abdominal pain, intermittent or persistent intestinal obstruction, mass formation, and viscus perforation represent the most common clinical manifestation. Total removal of the mesh via laparoscopy or laparotomy is recommended, along with either partial or entire resection of the organ.
CONCLUSION
Mesh migration is a an uncommon possible complication in case of incisional hernia mesh repair and it requires often surgical intervention.

Individuals with myelomeningocele (MMC) present with neurological and orthopaedic deficiencies, requiring orthoses during walking. Orthoses for counteracting dorsiflexion may restrict activities such as rising from a chair.
RESEARCH QUESTION
How are sit-to-stand (STS) movements performed with ankle joint-restricted ankle-foot orthoses (AFO) and knee-ankle-foot orthoses with a free-articulated knee joint (KAFO-F)?
METHODS
Twenty-eight adults with MMC, mean age 25.5 years (standard deviation: 3.5 years), were divided into an AnkleFree group (no orthosis or a foot orthosis) and an AnkleRestrict group (AFOs or KAFO-Fs). Study participants performed the five times STS test (5STS) while their movements were simultaneously captured with a three-dimensional motion system. Centre of mass (CoM) trajectories and joint kinematics were analysed using statistical parametric mapping.
RESULTS
The AnkleRestrict group performed the STS slower than the AnkleFree group, median 8.8 s (min, max: 6.9, 14.61 s) vs 15.0 s (min, max: 7.5, 32.2 s) (p = 0.002), displayed reduced ankle dorsiflexion (mean difference: 6°, p = 0.044) (74-81 % of the STS cycle), reduced knee extension (mean difference: 14°, p = 0.002) (17-41 % of the STS cycle), larger anterior pelvic tilt angle (average difference: 11°, p = 0.024) (12-24 % of the STS cycle), and larger trunk flexion angle (on average 4°, p = 0.029) (6-15 % of the STS cycle).
SIGNIFICANCE
The differences between the AnkleFree and AnkleRestrict groups in performing the STS seem consistent with the participants functional ambulation: community ambulation in the AnkleFree group, and household and nonfunctional ambulation with less hip muscle strength in the majority of the AnkleRestrict group. No differences in the 5STS CoM trajectories or the kinematics were found with respect to the AFO and KAFO-Fs groups. Because orthoses are constructed to enable walking, the environment needs to be adjusted for activities in daily living such as the STS movement.
