Application of neutral ionophore based ion-selective sensors requires presence of ion-exchanger in the receptor phase, silently assuming that it is not only soluble but also dissociates to ions in the applied plasticizer. Although for typically applied ion-selective membrane constituents (plasticizers - ion-exchanger pairs) dissociation of ion-exchangers to ions is proven by theoretical (or close to) performance of resulting sensors, search for alternative plasticizers or ion-exchangers requires a method allowing estimation of the match of properties of involved compounds. In this work we propose a simple optical approach allowing estimation of ion-exchanger interactions with plasticizer. The results were confirmed by conductivity studies of model plasticizers solutions. The estimated dissociation constants of model ion-exchangers in plasticizers used are in excellent agreement with the results of optical studies. It was shown that solubility coupled with poor dissociation to ions of ion-exchanger affects performance of the resulting ion-selective membrane. Rational choice of properties of ion-exchanger and plasticizer allows finding a perfect match of the two, that results in improvements in performance of sensors (e.g. detection limits). As model sensors potassium and sodium ion-selective electrodes with poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) based membranes, plasticized with classical plasticizer bis(2-ethylhexyl sebacate) or biodegradable alternative acetyl tributyl citrate, were prepared and studied using selected ion-exchangers.

Potassium manganese hexacianoferrate has been prepared by co-precipitation from manganese (II) chloride and potassium citrate, with chemical analysis yielding the formula K Mn[Fe(CN) ] □ ⋅ 1.1H O (KMnHCF). Its X-ray diffraction pattern is consistent with a monoclinic structure (space group P 2 /n, no. 14) with cell parameters a=10.1202(6)Å, b=7.2890(5)Å, c=7.0193(4)Å, and β=89.90(1)°. Its redox behavior has been studied in magnesium containing electrolytes. Both K ions deintercalated from the structure upon oxidation and contamination with Na ions coming from the separator were found to interfere in the electrochemical response. In the absence of alkaline ions, pre-oxidized manganese hexacianoferrate showed reversible magnesium intercalation, and the process has been studied by operando synchrotron X-ray diffraction. The location of Mg ions in the crystal structure was not possible with the available experimental data. Still, density functional theory simulations indicated that the most favorable position for Mg intercalation is at 32f sites (considering a pseudo cubic F m-3m phase), which are located between 8c and Mn sites.

Metal organic frameworks (MOFs), with structural tunability, high metal content and large surface area have recently attracted the attention of researchers in the field of electrochemistry. In this work, an unprecedented use of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs)/copper-based metal-organic framework (Cu-BTC MOF) composite as an ion-to-electron transducer in a potentiometric sensor is proposed for the determination of orphenadrine citrate. A comparative study was conducted between three proposed glassy carbon electrodes, Cu-MOF, (MWCNTs) and MWCNTs/Cu-MOF composite based sensors, where Cu-MOF, MWCNTs and their composite were utilized as the ion-to-electron transducers. The sensors were developed for accurate and precise determination of orphenadrine citrate in pharmaceutical dosage form, spiked real human plasma and artificial cerebrospinal fluid (ACSF). The sensors employed β-cyclodextrin as a recognition element with the aid of potassium tetrakis(4-chlorophenyl)borate (KTpCIPB) as a lipophilic ion exchanger. The sensors that were assessed based on the guidelines recommended by IUPAC and demonstrated a linear response within the concentration range of 10 M to 10 M, 10 M to 10 M and 10 M to 10 M for Cu-MOF, MWCNTs and MWCNTs/Cu-MOF composite based sensors, respectively. MWCNTs/Cu-MOF composite based sensor showed superior performance over other sensors regarding lower limit of detection (LOD), wider linearity range and faster response. The sensors demonstrated their potential as effective options for the analysis of orphenadrine citrate in quality control laboratories and in different healthcare activities.

OBJECTIVE
To investigate the clinical impact of dietary intervention in combination with bismuth potassium citrate in the management of chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) caused by Helicobacter pylori.
METHODS
From April 2019 to October 2022, 160 patients with newly identified Helicobacter pylori-related CAG were treated at our facility. They were split into two groups at random: the bismuth potassium citrate medication group (n = 80) and the diet intervention + bismuth potassium citrate experimental groups (n = 80). The bismuth potassium citrate treatment group was given bismuth potassium citrate capsule treatment only, and the diet intervention + bismuth potassium citrate treatment group was given diet intervention based on bismuth potassium citrate capsule. The diet intervention score, symptom score, and pathological score of the two groups were observed at baseline and after treatment, and the relationship between dietary intervention and symptoms and pathology of Helicobacter pylori-related CAG was analyzed.
RESULTS
During the baseline period, there was no discernible difference in the diet intervention score, symptom score, or pathology score between the two groups (P > .05); after the diet intervention combination treatment, the diet intervention score, diet intervention + bismuth potassium citrate experimental groups symptom score, and pathology score were considerably lower than those in the bismuth potassium citrate treated group (P < .05).
CONCLUSIONS
Dietary intervention combined with bismuth potassium citrate exhibited more effective treatment than bismuth potassium citrate-only treatment in Helicobacter pylori-related CAG, which hinted us proper diet has a positive impact on improving the therapeutic efficacy of bismuth potassium citrate.

BACKGROUND
Urinary pH manipulation by therapeutic foods or supplements is part of the treatment for urolithiasis. The effectiveness of these diets and supplements should be studied to determine which of these strategies is most effective.
HYPOTHESIS/OBJECTIVES
To assess the effect of the oral supplementation of potassium citrate, an ammonium chloride solution (Urical) and two dry therapeutic foods-Hill's® Prescription Diet® u/d® Canine (u/d diet) and Royal Canin® Urinary S/O dog (S/O diet)-on a dog's urinary pH at different time points over 8 h.
ANIMALS
Seven healthy adult male research beagle dogs.
METHODS
A prospective interventional study lasting 31 days. The dogs either received a supplement (potassium citrate or rical) with a dry adult maintenance diet (control diet) or the therapeutic diet (u/d diet or S/O diet). Each treatment had a duration of 2-5 days, with 2- to 4-day washout periods in between. Urinary pH measurements were performed every 2 h between 07h00 and 15h00, with the food being given at 07h00 and 15h00, right after urine collection. The pH measurements obtained in each of the four treatments were compared to control (same dogs fed the control diet exclusively).
RESULTS
When compared to the control diet at the same time points, biologically relevant changes in urinary pH (defined as ≥0.5) were: increase with potassium citrate at 7h00 and 13h00; increase with u/d diet at 9h00, 13h00, and 15h00; decrease with S/O diet at 9h00 and 11h00; Urical did not have a detectable effect on urinary pH.
CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL IMPORTANCE
The present study confirms that therapeutic foods S/O and u/d, and potassium citrate supplement affected acid-base balance in healthy adult male beagle dogs, with the tested diets being more effective than the administered doses of the tested supplements at influencing urinary pH.

BACKGROUND
Thiazide diuretics (TD) are the first-line treatment of hypertension because of its consistent benefit in lowering blood pressure and cardiovascular risk. TD is also known to cause an excess risk of diabetes, which may limit long-term use. Although potassium (K) depletion was thought to be the main mechanism of TD-induced hyperglycemia, TD also triggers magnesium (Mg) depletion. However, the role of Mg supplementation in modulating metabolic side effects of TD has not been investigated. Therefore, we aim to determine the effect of potassium magnesium citrate (KMgCit) on fasting plasma glucose and liver fat by magnetic resonance imaging during TD therapy.
METHODS
Accordingly, we conducted a double-blinded RCT in 60 nondiabetic hypertension patients to compare the effects of KCl versus KMgCit during chlorthalidone treatment. Each patient received chlorthalidone alone for 3 weeks before randomization. Primary end point was the change in fasting plasma glucose after 16 weeks of KCl or KMgCit supplementation from chlorthalidone alone.
RESULTS
The mean age of subjects was 59±11 years (30% Black participants). Chlorthalidone alone induced a significant rise in fasting plasma glucose, and a significant fall in serum K, serum Mg, and 24-hour urinary citrate excretion (all <0.05). KMgCit attenuated the rise in fasting plasma glucose by 7.9 mg/dL versus KCl (<0.05), which was not observed with KCl. There were no significant differences in liver fat between the 2 groups.
CONCLUSIONS
KMgCit is superior to KCl, the common form of K supplement used in clinical practice, in preventing TD-induced hyperglycemia. This action may improve tolerability and cardiovascular safety in patients with hypertension treated with this drug class.

BACKGROUND
Helicobacter pylori (H pylori) can cause gastritis, peptic ulcers, gastric cancer, and many other gastrointestinal diseases. The 14-day neo-dual therapy for H pylori is considered by most countries to have good eradication rates, while the 7- and 10-day studies have been more widely explored, however, we find that their results are different. The applicability of the shorter and less expensive 10-day neo-dual therapy to our country has not yet been confirmed.
METHODS
The patients were divided into 3 groups of 200 each by randomization method. Group A: patients received vonoprazan 20 mg, bid + amoxicillin(1 g), tid, for 14 days. Group B: vonoprazan (20 mg) bid + amoxicillin (1 g) tid, duration of treatment is 10 days, group C: rabeprazole (20 mg) bid + bismuth potassium citrate tablets/tinidazole tablets/clarithromycin tablets, combined package (4.2 g), bid, duration of treatment 14 days. The main comparisons were H pylori eradication rate, adverse drug reaction profile and cost-effect ratio in each group.
RESULTS
The eradication rates of groups A, B, and C were 92.5%, 91.6%, and 80.1%, respectively. There was no significant difference in the eradication rates of groups A and B (P > .05), groups A and B had statistically significantly better eradication rates than group C (P < .05). The incidence of adverse reactions in groups A, B, and C was 9.5%, 8.5%, and 17.0%, respectively. There was no difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between A and B: (P > .05), The incidence of adverse reactions was statistically significantly lower in groups A and B than in group C (P < .05). Logistic regression analysis showed nonsmokers had a higher eradication rate (OR 2.587, 95% CI: 1.377-4.859, P = .003), and taller patients were more likely to have successful eradication (OR 1.052, 95% CI: 1.008-1.097, P = .020). Group B had the lowest cost-benefit analysis results.
CONCLUSION
Group B had an acceptable eradication rate, the lowest incidence of adverse effects, and the lowest cost analysis. Eradication is more likely to be successful in patients who do not smoke and in those who are taller.

As the discharge amount of dye wastewater increases with the development of the textile printing and dyeing industries, the treatment of the dyes in the wastewater becomes more complex. The adsorption method is a commonly used method for treating dye wastewater. The adsorbent is the key factor affecting the adsorption performance. To develop a high-performance adsorbent, a porous carbon material prepared from potassium citrate by the calcination method was applied in the adsorption of dye-containing water in this study. The morphology and pore structure of the porous carbon materials were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and N adsorption/desorption isotherm. The porous carbon material with a specific surface area of 1436 m g, PC-900, was used as an adsorbent for the adsorption of methyl orange (MO) and methylene blue (MB). The results showed that the maximum adsorption capacity of PC-900 for MO and MB reached 927 and 1853.6 mg g, respectively. Studies on adsorption kinetics and adsorption isotherms showed that the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and the Langmuir isotherm model were more appropriate to describe the adsorption process of MO and MB by PC-900. In addition, the results of the mixed adsorption experiment of MO and MB dyes showed that PC-900 had selective adsorption for MB.

This study is the first to investigate the speciation and spatial distribution patterns of manganese (Mn) accumulated at elevated concentrations in Eucalyptus leaves by X-ray fluorescence (µ-XRF) and absorption near-edge spectroscopy (µ-XANES). Eucalyptus tereticornis is a tree species with great economic value and potential to accumulate and tolerate high Mn despite not being considered a hyperaccumulator. Seedlings grown under glasshouse conditions were irrigated with two Mn treatments: control Mn (9 µM) and high Mn solution (1000 µM). Biomass and total nutrient concentrations were assessed in roots, stems and leaves. Manganese, calcium (Ca) and potassium (K) spatial patterns were imaged by µ-SXRF in different foliar structures, and Mn speciation was conducted in these compartments by µ-XANES. Under high supply, Mn was distributed across the leaf mesophyll suggesting vacuolar sequestration in these cells. High Mn decreased cytosolic Ca by almost 50% in mesophyll cells, but K remained unaltered. Speciation suggests that a majority of the Mn fraction was complexed by organic ligands modeled as Mn-bound malate and citrate, instead of as free aqueous Mn or oxidised forms. These two detoxification mechanisms: effective vacuolar sequestration and organic acid complexation, may be responsible for the impressively high Mn tolerance found in eucalypts.

Sodium chloride (NaCl) is a commonly used additive in minimally processed fish-based products. The addition of NaCl to fish products and packaging in a modified atmosphere is usually efficient with regard to limiting the occurrence of the aquatic environmental pathogen Given the negative effects of excess NaCl in the diet, there is a growing demand to reduce NaCl in food products with safer substituents, but the knowledge of their impact on antibiotic resistant is limited. This study aimed to evaluate the physiological and transcriptome characteristics of NT06 isolated from fish and to determine the effect of selected concentrations of alternative NaCl compounds (KCl/NaL/NaC) on the NT06 virulence phenotype and genotype. In the study, among the isolated microorganisms, NT06 showed the highest antibiotic resistance (to ampicillin, ceftriaxone, nalidixic acid, and norfloxacin) and the ability to grow at 4 °C. The Comprehensive Antibiotic Resistance Database (CARD) and the Virulence Factor Database (VFDB) revealed the presence of 24 and 134 gene products assigned to AMR and VF in the NT06 transcriptome, respectively. KCl, KCl/NaL and KCl/NaL/NaC inhibited pyocyanin biosynthesis, elastase activity, and protease activity from 40 to 77%. The above virulence phenotypic observations were confirmed via RT-qPCR analyses, which showed that all tested AMR and VF genes were the most downregulated due to KCl/NaL/NaC treatment. In conclusion, this study provides insight into the potential AMR and VF among foodborne and the possible impairment of those features by KCl, NaL, and NaC, which exert synergistic effects and can be used in minimally processed fish-based products.
