This review aimed to evaluate the currently available evidence regarding the best method of correcting deep bites in growing patients. In September 2023, a search was conducted electronically across the following databases: PubMed®, Web of Science™, Scopus®, Embase®, Google™ Scholar, and Cochrane Library. In this systematic review, randomized control trials (RCTs), controlled clinical trials (CCTs), and cohort studies of growing patients with deep bite malocclusion who received treatment with the primary objective of treating the deep bite were included. Risk of bias of the included studies was assessed using two different tools; one tool was applied for RCTs and the other one for the CCTs and cohort studies. One RCT, one CCT, and one cohort study were included (85 patients). The flat fixed acrylic bite plane was superior in terms of duration of treatment when compared to the inclined fixed acrylic bite plane and the utility arch with posterior intermaxillary elastics. Limited evidence indicates that the inclined fixed acrylic bite plane causes a significant increase in the lower incisor inclination and a significant increase in the angle between the mandible and the anterior cranial base (SNB). However, limited evidence indicates that the utility arch with posterior intermaxillary elastics causes a significant decrease in the angle between the maxilla and the anterior cranial base (SNA). Regarding the vertical skeletal changes, it was found that the three methods were comparable; in each case, the vertical dimension of the face increased because of a significant increase in the lower first molar height. There is a need for further studies to strengthen the evidence of the treatment efficacy of the employed methods, with more RCTs to be conducted in this regard.

Several studies have evaluated the parameters of normality of the sella turcica (ST), which is important to face different craniofacial syndromes that may affect this structure. Therefore, this research summarized the scientific evidence on the role of ST in the sex estimation of non-syndromic individuals. The research protocol was registered (Prospective International Registry of Systematic Reviews # CRD42021256469), followed by an electronic search in six databases (PubMed, LILACS, Web of Science, Scopus, EMBASE, and LIVIVO) and gray literature (Google Scholar and OpenGrey). Meta-analysis of linear (width, length, height, and diameter) and volumetric measurements, in addition to an assessment of risk of bias (RoB) and certainty of evidence, were performed. After the screening of 986 articles, 13 were evaluated by meta-analysis (1 307 males and 1 231 females). In subgroup analysis, females had lower values for width (lateral radiograph; -0.67 mm; = 0.040), length (computed tomography; -0.23 mm; = 0.020), and diameter (computed tomography; -0.27 mm; < 0.001) compared to males. There was no statistically significant difference regarding height ( = 0.95), area ( = 0.72), and volume ( = 0.21). Most studies exhibited moderate RoB, and the certainty of evidence of the outcomes was very low. In this review, significant differences were observed between the sexes for the length and diameter of the ST; however, the heterogeneity of the studies must be considered.

Facial injuries, including maxillofacial trauma (MFT), are common in children and adolescents due to their age and bone maturation stage. Children's injuries are less common than adults' due to parental supervision and the flexibility of the facial bone. Causes of maxillofacial bone fractures (MFBF) vary based on socioeconomic, cultural, and environmental factors. Management of MFBF in children and adolescents should consider their growth and development stage. A systematic review is needed to understand the prevalence, pattern, and distribution of MFBF in Saudi Arabia. This systematic review aimed to identify papers on MFBF in children and adolescents in Saudi Arabia using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement. The search strategy involved searching electronic databases like PubMed/Medline, Web of Science, and Ebsco. The review included full-text original research papers, with inclusion criteria including English publications, human studies, and no restrictions on sample size, gender, date, or language. The selection process involved screening titles and abstracts, evaluating full texts, and identifying relevant studies. Data extraction involved two authors individually assessing selected studies. The PRISMA flow diagram of the literature search revealed that 26 papers were identified, of which 15 remained after excluding duplicates. After screening titles and abstracts, 10 articles were removed, and five papers were assessed for eligibility. Four papers met the inclusion criteria for the systematic review. The studies examined 1447 patients for the presence of MFBF in different regions. The majority of MFBF were caused by falls and road traffic accidents (RTAs) in children and adolescents. Mandibular fractures were the most common, followed by maxillary fractures. The majority of patients had tooth/teeth avulsions, followed by tooth luxation and crown fractures. Only one study described investigation methods for MFBF diagnosis. The systematic review reveals a high prevalence of MFBF among children and adolescents in Saudi Arabia, primarily due to falls and RTAs. The mandible is the most frequently fractured bone, and many children have concomitant teeth involvement. To reduce MFBF, effective initiatives and parental awareness strategies are recommended.

BACKGROUND
Oral diseases affect nearly half of the global population, presenting significant challenges in fragile and conflict-affected states. Despite comprising a population of over one billion people, oral health data and comprehensive evidence on oral health system strengthening on these countries are limited. This study, therefore, aims to explore oral health system strengthening in fragile and conflict-affected states by synthesising evidence from relevant global literature.
METHODS
We conducted a systematic review of literature across Ovid MEDLINE, EMBASE, Global Health, Scopus, Web of Science, and grey literature databases. The methodological quality of published literature was assessed using the relevant Joanna Briggs Institute critical appraisal tools. The findings were narratively synthesised and presented using the Lancet's high-quality health system framework.
RESULTS
The review included 23 papers from 12 countries. The evidence documented impacts of armed conflicts, political crisis, pandemics, and natural disasters on oral health systems, and initiatives to strengthen them focusing on the 'foundations' domain. The initiatives included: workforce development and career opportunities; health service platforms such as mobile dental services and teledentistry; integration of oral health into national health systems and emergency responses; contingency planning and adaptability; and effective governance such as financing systems and infrastructures. Collaborative action, both local and international, including monitoring and evaluation were emphasised as key strategies for health system strengthening to ensure an equitable distribution of responsibilities and resources.
CONCLUSIONS
Whilst evidence on oral health system strengthening in fragile and conflict-affected states is limited, our findings suggest the need for integrated action, such as mobilising local resources and engaging stakeholders equitably. Further research, with particular focus in the area of processes of care and quality impacts, is necessary to explore comprehensive strategies for strengthening the oral health system.

BACKGROUND
Focal and florid cemento-osseous dysplasia are benign fibro-osseous lesions affecting the quality and quantity of the jawbones. This study aimed to determine the viability of implant-based approaches in the affected patients.
MAIN TEXT
Different scientific databases, including PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science, Embase, the Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar, were searched until October 8, 2023, using a pre-determined search strategy. Two reviewers screened the retrieved reports and extracted the required information from the included studies. The eligibility criteria included English-language case reports/series or clinical trials. The JBI critical appraisal checklist for case reports was used to assess the methodological quality of the included studies. Three studies were deemed eligible to be included in this study out of the initial 202 records found. Five implants were placed in three patients, positioned in the proximity of the lesion area, without any additional treatment to remove the pathology. The mandibular posterior area was the affected site in all patients. Only one implant failed in one patient after 16 years, which was attributed to peri-implantitis and not the lesion. Other implants demonstrated successful maintenance over follow-up periods.
CONCLUSIONS
Although the number of the included records was relatively low to draw firm conclusions, it seems that implant-based treatments in patients with focal/florid cemento-osseous dysplasia could be viable, considering a conservative and well-planned approach.

Primary studies have demonstrated that despite being useful, most of the drug-drug interaction (DDI) alerts generated by clinical decision support systems are overridden by prescribers. To provide more information about this issue, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis on the prevalence of DDI alerts generated by CDSS and alert overrides by physicians. The search strategy was implemented by applying the terms and MeSH headings and conducted in the MEDLINE/PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, Scopus, LILACS, and Google Scholar databases. Blinded reviewers screened 1873 records and 86 full studies, and 16 articles were included for analysis. The overall prevalence of alert generated by CDSS was 13% (CI95% 5-24%, -value <0.0001, I^2 = 100%), and the overall prevalence of alert override by physicians was 90% (CI95% 85-95%, -value <0.0001, I^2 = 100%). This systematic review and meta-analysis presents a high rate of alert overrides, even after CDSS adjustments that significantly reduced the number of alerts. After analyzing the articles included in this review, it was clear that the CDSS alerts physicians about potential DDI should be developed with a focus on the user experience, thus increasing their confidence and satisfaction, which may increase patient clinical safety.

BACKGROUND
Adenotonsillectomy is one of the most common surgical procedures worldwide. The current standard for securing the airway in patients undergoing adenotonsillectomy is endotracheal tube (ETT) intubation. Several studies have investigated the use of the laryngeal mask airway (LMA) in this procedure. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to compare the safety and efficacy of the LMA versus ETT in adenotonsillectomy.
METHOD
Databases were searched from inception to 2022 for randomized controlled trials and comparative studies. Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines were followed. The primary outcome is the rate of perioperative respiratory adverse events (PRAEs). Secondary outcomes included the rate of conversion to ETT, desaturations, nausea/vomiting, and surgical time. A subgroup analysis, risk of bias, publication bias, and Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) assessments were also performed.
RESULTS
Twelve studies were included in the analysis (4176 patients). The mean overall conversion to ETT was 8.36% [95% confidence interval (CI) = 8.17, 8.54], and for the pediatric group 8.27% (95% CI = 8.08, 8.47). The mean rate of conversion to ETT secondary to complications was 2.89% (95% CI = 2.76, 3.03) while the rest was from poor surgical access. Overall, there was no significant difference in PRAEs [odds ratio (OR) 1.16, 95% CI = 0.60, 2.22], desaturations (OR 0.79, 95% CI = 0.38, 1.64), or minor complications (OR 0.89, 95% CI = 0.50, 1.55). The use of LMA yielded significantly shorter operative time (mean difference -4.38 minutes, 95% CI = -8.28, -0.49) and emergence time (mean difference -4.15 minutes, 95% CI = -5.63, -2.67).
CONCLUSION
For adenotonsillectomy surgery, LMA is a safe alternative to ETT and requires less operative time. Careful patient selection and judgment of the surgeon and anesthesiologist are necessary, especially given the 8% conversion to ETT rate.

Biosurfactants are amphiphilic compounds produced by various microorganisms. Current research evaluates diverse types of biosurfactants against a range of oral pathogens.
OBJECTIVES
This systematic review aims to explore the potential of microbial-derived biosurfactants for oral applications.
METHODOLOGY
A systematic literature search was performed utilizing PubMed-MEDLINE, Scopus, and Web of Science databases with designated keywords. The results were registered in the PROSPERO database and conducted following the PRISMA checklist. Criteria for eligibility, guided by the PICOS framework, were established for both inclusion and exclusion criteria. The QUIN tool was used to assess the bias risk for in vitro dentistry studies.
RESULTS
Among the initial 357 findings, ten studies were selected for further analysis. The outcomes of this systematic review reveal that both crude and purified forms of biosurfactants exhibit antimicrobial and antibiofilm properties against various oral pathogens. Noteworthy applications of biosurfactants in oral products include mouthwash, toothpaste, and implant coating.
CONCLUSION
Biosurfactants have garnered considerable interest and demonstrated their potential for application in oral health. This is attributed to their surface-active properties, antiadhesive activity, biodegradability, and antimicrobial effectiveness against a variety of oral microorganisms, including bacteria and fungi.

OBJECTIVES
To evaluate the current evidence of digital workflow feasibility based on the data acquisition methods and the software tools used to fabricate intraoral prostheses for patients with partial or total maxillary and mandibular defects.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
An electronic search was performed in PubMed, SCOPUS, and Web of Science using a combination of relevant keywords: digital workflow, digital designing, computer-assisted design-computer aided manufacturing, 3D printing, maxillectomy, and mandibulectomy. The Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal Tool was used to assess the quality of evidence in the studies reviewed.
RESULTS
From a total of 542 references, 33 articles were selected, including 25 on maxillary prostheses and 8 on mandibular prostheses. The use of digital workflows was limited to one or two steps of the fabrication of the prostheses, and only four studies described a complete digital workflow. The most preferred method for data acquisition was intraoral scanning with or without a cone beam computed tomography combination.
CONCLUSION
Currently, the fabrication process of maxillofacial prostheses requires combining digital and conventional methods. Simplifying the data acquisition methods and providing user-friendly and affordable software may encourage clinicians to use the digital workflow more frequently for patients requiring maxillofacial prostheses.

Knowledge of the root canals configuration is essential for the success of endodontic treatment. The main aim of the systematic review is to determine the number of roots and the number of root canals in maxillary third molars, in addition, where possible, to determine the Vertucci classification. This systematic review was conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) statement guidelines. The study protocol was registered and approved on the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews PROSPERO (Reg. No: CRD42022366444) before the start of the study. Twelve studies were included in the analysis, differing in sample origin and methodology. The combined studies were analyzed based on the number of roots, number of canals, and root canal configurations, and the findings were compared with those of other international studies. Analyzing the available research results regarding the root anatomy and canal configuration of the third maxillary molar, the most commonly maxillary third molars had 3 roots (59.00%). Single-rooted teeth (24.20%) or double-rooted teeth (13.80%) were less common. In addition, it was observed that maxillary third molars typically possessed three root canals (47.28%) and the MB (mesiobuccal), DB (distobuccal), and P (palatal) canals most often showed Vertucci Type I (59.53%, 95.83% and 98.61%, respectively) in three-rooted form. Due to the small number of available studies, it is necessary to conduct further analyses taking into account demographic and ethnic differences that may affect the anatomical and morphological structure of the teeth.
