Stapes surgery was traditionally performed with the use of microscopy either through postauricular, endaural or transcanal approaches. Endoscopic stapedectomy ushered a revolution as a new technique with less complications. To review the outcomes of endoscopic stapes surgery with an emphasis on intraoperative and postoperative clinical and audiological results. A literature review on the PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, the Cochrane Library, and Embase databases was conducted. or were the main keywords used, and we searched for studies and research published from January 2015 to October 2021. Articles on endoscopic stapes surgery were included, and qualitative and descriptive analyses of the studies and outcomes data regarding audiometric changes and postoperative complications were conducted. Articles including patients with cholesteatoma were excluded. A total of 122 studies were retrieved for qualitative and descriptive analyses and to measure the outcomes of endoscopic stapedotomy; only 12 studies met the inclusion criteria, and the rest was excluded. The meta-analysis revealed a statistically significant difference in hearing improvement. The gain in air-bone gap ranged from 9 dB to 16 dB. A low rate of operative and postoperative complications was reported. Endoscopic stapes surgery appears to be a reasonable alternative to microscopic stapes surgery, with shorter operative times, low complication rate, and significant hearing improvement. The endoscopic technique enabled a better visualization and less scutum drilling, which was confirmed by all included studies.

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is one of the most common genetic cardiovascular diseases, and it shows an autosomal dominant pattern of inheritance. HCM can be clinically silent, and sudden unexpected death due to malignant arrhythmias may be the first manifestation. Thus, the HCM diagnosis could be performed at a clinical and judicial autopsy and offer useful findings on morphological features; moreover, it could integrate the knowledge on the genetic aspect of the disease. This review aims to systematically analyze the literature on the main post-mortem investigations and the related findings of HCM to reach a well-characterized and stringent diagnosis; the review was performed using PubMed and Scopus databases. The articles on the post-mortem evaluation of HCM by gross and microscopic evaluation, imaging, and genetic test were selected; a total of 36 studies were included. HCM was described with a wide range of gross findings, and there were cases without morphological alterations. Myocyte hypertrophy, disarray, fibrosis, and small vessel disease were the main histological findings. The post-mortem genetic tests allowed the diagnosis to be reached in cases without morpho-structural abnormalities; clinical and forensic pathologists have a pivotal role in HCM diagnosis; they contribute to a better definition of the disease and also provide data on the genotype-phenotype correlation, which is useful for clinical research.

BACKGROUND
Limitations in the operative microscope (OM)'s mobility and suboptimal ergonomics created the opportunity for the development of the exoscope. This systematic review aims to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of exoscopes and OMs in spine surgery.
METHODS
Following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines, a systematic search was conducted in the major research databases. All studies evaluating the exoscopes and/or OMs in spinal procedures were included.
RESULTS
There were 602 patients included in the 16 studies, with 539 spine surgery patients, 19 vascular cases, 1 neural pathology case, 19 cranial cases, and 24 tumor pathologies. When examining surgical outcomes with the exoscope, results were mixed. Compared to the OM, exoscope usage resulted in longer operative times in 7 studies, comparable times in 3 studies, and shorter operative times in 3 studies. Two studies found similar lengths of stay (LOS) for both tools, two reported longer LOS with exoscopes, and one indicated shorter hospital LOS with exoscopes. One study reported higher exoscope-related blood loss (EBL), but four other studies consistently showed reduced EBL. In terms of image quality, illumination, dynamic range, depth perception, ergonomics and cost-effectiveness, the exoscope was consistently rated superior, while findings across studies were mixed regarding the optical zoom ratio and mean scope adjustment (MSA). The learning curve for exoscope use was consistently reported as shorter in all studies.
CONCLUSION
Exoscopes present a viable alternative to OMs in spine surgery, offering multiple advantages, which supports their promising role in modern neurosurgical practice.

In the field of minimally invasive neurosurgery, microscopic transsphenoidal surgery (MTS) and endoscopic transsphenoidal surgery (ETS) have been widely accepted as a safe approach for pituitary lesions and, more recently, their indications have been extended to lesions at various skull base regions. It is mandatory during transsphenoidal surgery (TS) to identify key anatomical landmarks in the sphenoid sinus and distinguish them from the lesion. Over the years, many intraoperative tools have been introduced to improve the neuronavigation systems aiming to achieve safer and more accurate neurosurgical interventions. However, traditional neuronavigation systems may lose the accuracy of real-time location due to the discrepancy between the actual surgical field and the preoperative 2D images. To deal with this, augmented reality (AR)-a new sophisticated 3D technology that superimposes computer-generated virtual objects onto the user's view of the real world-has been considered a promising tool. Particularly, in the field of TS, AR can minimize the anatomic challenges of traditional endoscopic or microscopic surgery, aiding in surgical training, preoperative planning and intra-operative orientation. The aim of this systematic review is to analyze the potential future role of augmented reality, both in endoscopic and microscopic transsphenoidal surgeries.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common malignancies in the world. Nowadays many treatments are available to help control CRC, including surgery, radiation therapy, interventional radiology, and drug treatments. A multidisciplinary approach and the role of radiologists is needed to assist the surgeon in the management thanks to emerging technology and strategies. The Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumours (RECIST) has been created to objectify and standardize cancer response assessment. Thus, in this article specific presumptions and practical aspects of evaluating responses according to the RECIST 1.1 are discussed. Furthermore, examples of possible response to systemic treatment of colorectal liver metastases (CRLM), including tumour necrosis, apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values, tumour calcification, tumour fibrosis and intratumoural fat deposition observed on cross-sectional imaging, are described. Disappearing liver metastases (DLM) presents a therapeutic dilemma. The optimal management of DLM remains controversial due to the uncertainty of residual microscopic disease and effective long-term outcomes. The article provides an overview of the CRLM phenomenon and current possible assessment methods of the response to systemic treatment.

Partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) is emerging as a prominent methodological tool in strategic management research. Although it offers various advancements to stay relevant with growing research needs, the pace of PLS-SEM adoption may differ in different parts of the world. In this paper, we conducted a systematic review using the PRISMA framework and extracted from the top-ranking strategic management journals 120 articles published between 2011 and 2022 that presented a microscopic view on developing nations. Our findings reveal that despite the astounding methodological solutions offered by PLS-SEM, the studies from developing nations are still trailing behind developed nations in terms of fully exploiting the advancements of PLS-SEM to provide substantial insights to strategic management literature. This review identifies discrepancies in the current application of the method, discusses the most recent advancements and provides the best practices, standard guidelines and recommendations for the best use of PLS-SEM in strategic management research.

End stage renal disease in patient with microscopic polyangiitis and atypical hemolytic-uremic syndrome arose 3 weeks after the third dose of anti-SARS-CoV2 vaccine mRNA-1273: A case report with literature revision.
RATIONALE
Immune system deregulation, including AAV, is a key event that may potentially evolve into ESRD. Abnormal activation of the cAP is also a cardinal feature of TMA, particularly aHUS. The kidney is the most frequently involved organ, and renal-limited forms of TMA are often encountered in clinical practice. Isolated case reports described the occurrence of renal TMA in AAV patients. Some cases of both de novo and relapses of AAV and/or TMAs after anti-SARS-CoV2 vaccination have been reported. We reported, for the 1st time, a case of patients with new-onset MPA and aHUS occurring 3 weeks after the third dose of mRNA-1273 vaccine anti-SARS-CoV2.
PATIENT CONCERNS
We present a 67-year-old man, affected by arterial hypertension, reported, after mRNA-1273 vaccine anti-SARS-CoV2, anuria, fatigue, anorexia and nausea. Laboratory data revealed acute renal failure.
DIAGNOSIS
Positivity of MPO-ANCA was observed. 7 days after admission, we observed a worsening of anemia and thrombocytopenia with haptoglobin reduction, LDH increase and presence of schistocytes. Plasma levels of ADAMTS-13 were normal. A renal biopsy was performed, and findings were consistent with microscopic polyangiitis, with features of micro-thrombotic glomerulopathy. Genetic tests revealed absence of hybrid genes associated with the increased risk of aHUS.
INTERVENTIONS AND OUTCOMES
We started renal replacement treatment, including hemodialysis, and pulsed methylprednisolone, with no improvement of laboratory parameters. Then, plasma exchange was performed leading to partial haematological response. Only with Eculizumab, a human C5 inhibitor, we observed a normalization of haptoglobin levels and platelets' count. However, three months after discharge, the patient still required hemodialysis.
LESSONS
To our knowledge we observed the first case aHUS, without genetic predisposition, associated with MPA occurring after the third dose of anti-SARS-CoV2 vaccine. This case report highlights the potential link between anti-SARS-CoV2 vaccine as a trigger of MPA and aHUS. This systematic review offers additional perspectives. It is plausible to hypothesize that the vaccine was the trigger for the development of these 2 diseases.Solid evidence on the mechanisms of interaction between vaccine and immune system, the role of genetic predisposition, and other variables, will shed additional light on the controversial link between anti-SARS-CoV2 vaccine and autoimmunity.

To summarize the current applications and potential uses of optical coherence tomography (OCT), a noninvasive imaging modality that uses near-infrared light to produce cross-sectional, high-resolution images of biologic tissues, for evaluating the sinonasal mucosa in patients. Original articles utilizing OCT to image the sinonasal mucosa in patients were identified from the PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and Scopus databases using the search phrase: "Optical Coherence Tomography" AND (sinonasal OR intranasal OR sinus OR nose OR sinusitis OR rhinitis OR olfactory). Strength of evidence, quality of evidence, and risk of bias were measured using validated scales. Study results were qualitatively assessed. Out of 1662 original records identified through database searching, 9 studies were included in the systematic review. Levels of evidence ranged from III to IV and quality of evidence ranged from moderate to very low. Endoscopic OCT systems as well as OCT systems integrated with surgical microscopes were described in the literature. Applications of OCT for imaging the sinonasal mucosa included identifying morphological patterns unique to individual diseases, detecting mucosal structural changes after medical therapies and procedures, and evaluating mucociliary clearance. Most studies investigating OCT imaging of the sinonasal mucosa featured small sample sizes and lacked control groups. While OCT imaging could be a useful adjunct for diagnosing sinonasal disorders and monitoring response to treatment in the future, additional high-quality studies are necessary to determine if the use of OCT imaging can lead to improved diagnostic accuracy and health outcomes for patients with sinonasal pathologies.

Fluorescence confocal microscopy (FCM) is a novel technology that enables rapid high-resolution digital imaging of non-formalin-fixed tissue specimens and offers real-time positive surgical margin identification. In this systematic review, we evaluated the accuracy metrics of ex vivo FCM for intraoperative margin assessment of different tumor types. A systematic search of MEDLINE via PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Web of Science, and Scopus was performed for relevant papers (PROSPERO ID: CRD42022372558). We included 14 studies evaluating four types of microscopes in six different tumor types, including breast, prostate, central nervous system, kidney, bladder, and conjunctival tumors. Using the Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies tool, we identified a high risk of bias in patient selection (21%) and index test (36%) of the included studies. Overall, we found that FCM has good accuracy metrics in all tumor types, with high sensitivity and specificity (>80%) and almost perfect concordance (>90%) against final pathology results. Despite these promising findings, the quality of the available evidence and bias concerns highlight the need for adequately designed studies to further define the role of ex vivo FCM in replacing the frozen section as the tool of choice for intraoperative margin assessment.

OBJECTIVES
To analyze and compare the available data about the outcomes of endoscopic and microscopic type I tympanoplasty.
DATA SOURCES
PubMed, Cochrane library Ovid, Scopus, Google scholar, and ClinicalTrials.
METHODS
We conducted a meta-analysis in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. We included comparative studies describing type I tympanoplasty, and comparing surgical outcomes of the endoscope with the microscope in terms of efficacy and safety.
RESULTS
Our systematic search yielded 22 studies meeting the inclusion criteria and eligible for analysis. The pooled graft uptake rates and audiological results of endoscopic and microscopic tympanoplasty demonstrated non-significant differences. In contrast, endoscopic type I tympanoplasty outperforms microscopic tympanoplasty regarding a highly significant decrease not only in pooled mean operative time but also in the pooled complications rate.
CONCLUSIONS
Based on our meta-analysis, the surgical outcomes of endoscope-assisted and microscope-assisted type I tympanoplasty in terms of postoperative hearing outcomes and the graft uptake rate were comparable. On the contrary, operative time and complications rate proved to be significantly reduced with endoscopy compared to microscopy. Hence, the endoscope is as efficient as the microscope in type I tympanoplasty but less invasive, fewer in complications and shorter in operative time.
