Spinal cord injury (SCI) often leads to devastating motor impairments, significantly affecting the quality of life of affected individuals. Over the last decades, spinal cord electrical stimulation seems to have encouraging effects on the motor recovery of impacted patients. This review aimed to identify clinical trials focused on motor function recovery through the application of epidural electrical stimulation, transcutaneous electrical stimulation, and functional electrical stimulation. Several clinical trials met these criteria, focusing on the impact of the aforementioned interventions on walking, standing, swimming, trunk stability, and upper extremity functionality, particularly grasp. After a thorough PubMed online database research, 37 clinical trials were included in this review, with a total of 192 patients. Many of them appeared to have an improvement in function, either clinically assessed or recorded through electromyography. This review outlines the various ways electrical stimulation techniques can aid in the motor recovery of SCI patients. It stresses the ongoing need for medical research to refine these techniques and ultimately enhance rehabilitation results in clinical settings.

PURPOSE
Capitellum and trochlea fractures, also referred to as coronal shear fractures of the distal humerus, are infrequent yet challenging intra-articular fractures of the elbow. There are a variety of surgical approaches and fixation methods with often variable outcomes. This systematic review investigates interventions, outcomes and complications of capitellum and trochlea fractures.
METHODS
A systematic review of studies published in MEDLINE, EMBASE, Web of Science and Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health literature (CINAHL) was conducted to assess the clinical outcomes of capitellum and trochlea fractures managed surgically. Data on patient demographics, surgical approach, implant usage, postoperative outcomes and complications were compiled.
RESULTS
Forty-one studies met the inclusion criteria with a total of 700 patients. Surgical interventions primarily utilized either the lateral (79%) or antero-lateral (15%) approaches with headless compression screws as the most common fixation method (68%). Clinical outcomes were measured using the Mayo Elbow Performance Index (MEPI) with a mean score of 89.9 (±2.6) and the DASH score with a mean of 16.9 (±7.3). Elbow range of motion showed a mean flexion of 126.3° (±19.4), extension of 5.71° (±11.8), pronation of 75.23° (±12.2), and supination of 76.6° (±9.8). The mean flexion-extension arc was 113.7° (±16.9), and the mean pronation-supination arc was 165.31° (±9.41). Complications occurred in 19.8% of cases, with re-interventions required in 8.3% of cases, mainly due to symptomatic implants and elbow stiffness requiring surgical release. Other complications included implant removal (10.4%), overall reported stiff elbows (6%), nerve palsies (2%), non-union (1.5%), and infection (1.2%).
CONCLUSION
The treatment of capitellum and trochlea fractures yields satisfactory outcomes but has a considerable rate of complications and reoperations primarily due to symptomatic implants and elbow stiffness. There is noteworthy variability in the achieved range of motion, suggesting unpredictable outcomes. Deficits in functionality and range of motion are common after surgery, especially with more complex injury patterns.

BACKGROUND
Cheilectomy of the 1 metatarsophalangeal joint (MTPJ) is one of the most common procedures for the management of hallux rigidus. However, there is no consensus regarding outcomes following minimally invasive dorsal cheilectomy (MIDC) for the management of hallux rigidus.
AIM
To evaluate outcomes following MIDC for the management of hallux rigidus.
METHODS
During November 2023, the PubMed, EMBASE and Cochrane Library databases were systematically reviewed to identify clinical studies examining outcomes following MIDC for the management of hallux rigidus.
RESULTS
Six studies were included. In total, 348 patients (370 feet) underwent MIDC for hallux rigidus at a weighted mean follow-up of 37.9 ± 16.5 months. The distribution of patients by Coughlin and Shurna's classification was recorded in 4 studies as follows: I (58 patients, 27.1%), II (112 patients, 52.3%), III (44 patients, 20.6%). Three studies performed an additional 1 MTPJ arthroscopy and debridement following MIDC. Retained intra-articular bone debris was observed in 100% of patients in 1 study. The weighted mean American orthopedic foot and ankle society score improved from a preoperative score of 68.9 ± 3.2 to a postoperative score of 87.1. The complication rate was 8.4%, the most common of which was persistent joint pain and stiffness. Thirty-two failures (8.7%) were observed. Thirty-three secondary procedures (8.9%) were performed at a weighted mean time of 8.6 ± 3.2 months following the index procedure.
CONCLUSION
This systematic review demonstrated improvements in subjective clinical outcomes together with a moderate complication rate following MIDC for the management of hallux rigidus at short-term follow-up. A moderate re-operation rate at short-term follow-up was recorded. The marked heterogeneity between included studies and paucity of high quality comparative studies limits the generation of any robust conclusions.

A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of the Management of Gallstone Cholecystitis and Common Biliary Duct Stones to Reduce the Incidence of Complications in Elderly Patients.
As the age increases particularly above the age of 50 years, there is a significantly higher risk of developing gallstone-related complications especially cholecystitis and common bile duct stones with its associated consequences. Complications that arise after surgical operations for cholecystitis have been reported to have negative impacts on senior patients. These effects include a higher rate of complications, a longer hospital stay, higher expenditures, and decreased patient satisfaction. Therefore, finding the most effective treatment for cholecystitis in older patients is still a challenge. The aim of the study was carried out in order to identify many approaches that can be taken in the treatment of cholecystitis and stones in the common bile duct in older patients. A search was conducted through Medline (PubMed), EMBASE, ProQuest, and Cochrane using relevant Medical Subject Heading (MeSH) terms and keywords (elderly, age over 50, cholecystitis, bile duct stones, cholecystectomy, ERCP, surgical, conservative management, and open). The searches were limited to studies on elderly individuals over 50 who had cholecystectomy and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography between January 2000 and December 2022. The meta-analysis used the Mantel-Haenszel odds ratio (MHOR) and 95% confidence interval (CI). Aries Systems Corporation's Editorial Manager® (Aries Systems Corporation, North Andover, USA) and ProduXion Manager® (Aries Systems Corporation, North Andover, USA) facilitated the study. Out of 102 citations, 39 studies were selected for further study. After that, 18 studies were eliminated, leaving 21 for meta-analysis. The study found a protective risk of cholecystitis in cholecystectomy patients (MHOR = 0.16; 95%, CI = 0.10 to 0.25; p 0.001). Developing cholecystitis was substantially lower in early cholecystectomy patients (MHOR = 0.16; 95%, CI = 0.10 to 0.25; p 0.001). There was no significant difference in cholecystitis risk between open and laparoscopic surgery (MHOR = 0.65; 95%, CI = 0.41 to 1.04; p 0.07). Cholecystectomy performed at an earlier stage protects elderly patients from developing recurrent cholecystitis. In contrast to late cholecystitis, in which the patient would experience several attacks of cholecystitis, early cholecystectomy protects against the recurrence of the condition.

Psoriasis is a chronic immune-mediated disease affecting the skin, nails, and/or joints. It is associated with systemic inflammation and may also be linked to an increased risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). The objectives of this study were to determine the overall risk of ASCVD in patients with psoriasis and to evaluate the risk according to ASCVD type and the severity of psoriasis. This was a systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies reporting the association between psoriasis and one or more of the clinical types of ASCVD. We searched Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE) via PubMed, Excerpta Medica Database (EMBASE), Scopus, Bielefeld Academic Search Engine (BASE), and Google Scholar for relevant studies in the English language from the beginning of their records to July 2023. Study selection and data extraction were conducted by four independent reviewers. A total of 21 observational studies (three cross-sectional, one case-control, and 17 cohort) were included in this review, representing a total of 778,049 patients with psoriasis and 16,881,765 control subjects without psoriasis. The included studies had varying degrees of covariate adjustment, and thus, their findings may have been subject to residual confounding. All the meta-analyses used the adjusted effect sizes and were based on the random-effects model. However, the cohort studies were analysed separately from the non-cohort studies (the case-control and cross-sectional studies). There was a significant association between psoriasis and ASCVD (cohort studies: hazard ratio (HR), 1.21; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.14 to 1.28; I = 63%; p < 0.001; non-cohort studies: odds ratio (OR), 1.60; 95% CI, 1.34 to 1.92; I = 31%; p = 0.23). Psoriasis was also significantly associated with myocardial infarction (cohort studies: HR, 1.20; 95% CI, 1.10 to 1.31; I = 60%; p < 0.001; non-cohort studies: OR, 1.57; 95% CI, 1.15 to 2.15; I = 74%; p = 0.05), coronary artery disease (cohort studies: HR, 1.20; 95% CI, 1.13 to 1.28; I = 67%; p < 0.001; non-cohort studies: OR, 1.60; 95% CI, 1.34 to 1.92; I = 31%; p = 0.23), aortic aneurysm (HR, 1.45; 95% CI, 1.04 to 2.02; I = 67%; p = 0.08) but not with ischaemic stroke (HR, 1.14; 95% CI, 0.96 to 1.36; I = 44%; p = 0.17). Pooled analysis in terms of the severity of psoriasis showed that both mild (cohort studies: HR, 1.17; 95% CI, 1.08 to 1.26; I = 74%; p < 0.001; non-cohort studies: OR, 1.54; 95% CI, 1.25 to 1.90; I = 0%; p = 0.50) and severe (cohort studies: HR, 1.43; 95% CI, 1.23 to 1.65; I = 65%; p < 0.001; non-cohort studies: OR, 1.65; 95% CI, 1.29 to 2.12; I = 25%; p = 0.26) psoriasis were significantly associated with ASCVD. Psoriasis (including mild and severe disease) is associated with an increased risk of ASCVD, including coronary artery disease (CAD) and aortic aneurysm (AA). ASCVD risk assessment and prevention should be prioritised in all adult psoriasis patients. Future observational studies investigating the association between psoriasis and ASCVD should conduct a more comprehensive adjustment of covariates.

AIM
The present systematic review compares the stability, crestal bone levels and efficacy of osseodensification (OD) drilling techniques for dental implant placement to traditional drilling methods.
SETTINGS AND DESIGN
The Cochrane online library, PubMed, Scopus, and other well-known online resources are used in the research. Using a systematic review design, the current study examines published qualitative studies with an emphasis on analysis.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
Using precise keywords, a thorough search of pertinent databases was carried out in accordance with PRISMA standards. Studies testing dental implant stability, crestal bone levels and clinical results using both OD and traditional procedures were covered by the inclusion criteria.
STATISTICAL ANALYSIS USED
The risk of bias and quality of included studies was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale for observational studies and the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool for randomized controlled trials.
RESULTS
A total of 170 patients and 334 implants from Egypt, India, and Brazil were included in eight papers that made up the systematic review. In several clinical situations, osseodensification outperformed standard drilling in terms of implant durability, bone development, and torque data. Statistical analysis presented the lowest risks, while blinded outcome assessment, allocation concealment, random sequence generation, incomplete outcome data and experimental technique revealed higher risks. Bias assessment found various risks across different components.
CONCLUSION
The thorough examination of eight papers demonstrates that osseodensification is a technique with great promise in the field of dental implants. It exhibits superior torque values, bone development, and stability when compared to traditional drilling. The overall results highlight the potential of osseodensification to improve clinical outcomes and advance the science of dental implantology, even in the face of variances in bias concerns.

The aim of this umbrella review was to systematically review the systematic reviews on antagonist enamel wear opposing zirconia crowns compared to other ceramics and natural enamel.
SETTINGS AND DESIGN
This was an umbrella review following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
An electronic search of PubMed, Cochrane Central, EBSCOhost, and Google Scholar search engines for articles published from January 1, 2013, to January 1, 2023, was conducted using keywords "enamel wear," "zirconia," "feldspathic," "dental ceramics," and "Y-TZP" to identify systematic reviews on antagonist enamel wear opposing zirconia crowns compared to other ceramics and natural enamel.
STATISTICAL ANALYSIS USED
Qualitative analysis.
RESULTS
A total of 86 articles were obtained through electronic search, of which four articles were selected after abstract screening that met the inclusion criteria for evaluating antagonist enamel wear. As compared to feldspathic groups, zirconia had substantially less antagonist wear, while surface polishing exhibited less enamel wear than glazing. Because of the heterogeneity in study design, measurement methods, and outcome variables, a meta-analysis was not possible.
CONCLUSIONS
Over time, the opposing enamel wear caused by polished monolithic zirconia will be either equal to or less than that of natural enamel wear. Polished monolithic zirconia also maintains lower values of enamel wear compared to metal ceramics, feldspathic porcelains, and lithium disilicate.

OBJECTIVE
To analyze and summarize the types, incidence rates and relevant influencing factors of adverse events (AEs) after high-intensity focused ultrasound ablation of gynecological diseases and provide reference and basis for handling such events in clinical practice.
METHOD
We searched PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science and Embase databases to retrieve all literature since its establishment until February 2024. We evaluated the quality of included literature and publication bias and conducted a meta-analysis of single group rates for various AEs using Stata 17.0.
RESULTS
This systematic review finally included 41 articles. We summarized 34 kinds of AEs in 7 aspects and conducted a single group rate meta-analysis and sub-group analysis of 16 kinds of AEs. Among the common AEs of High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU), the incidence of lower abdominal pain/pelvic pain is 36.1% (95% CI: 24.3%∼48.8%), vaginal bleeding is 20.6% (95% CI: 13.9%∼28.0%), vaginal discharge is 14.0% (95% CI: 9.6%∼19.1%), myoma discharge is 24% (95% CI: 14.6%∼34.8%), buttock pain is 10.8% (95% CI: 6.0%∼16.5%) and sacral pain is 10% (95% CI: 8.8%∼11.2%). Serious complications include uterine rupture, necrotic tissue obstruction requiring surgical intervention, third degree skin burns and persistent lower limb pain or movement disorders.
CONCLUSION
The common AEs after HIFU surgery are mostly mild and controllable, and the incidence of serious complications is extremely low. By reasonable prevention and active intervention, these events can be further reduced, making it a safe and effective treatment method. It is a good choice for patients who crave noninvasive treatment or have other surgical contraindications.

OBJECTIVES
Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a leading cause of acute lower respiratory infection (ALRI) in young children. With substantial advances in RSV research, we aimed to conduct an updated systematic review of risk factors for RSV-ALRI in children under five years.
METHODS
We updated our previously published literature search to November 2022 among three English databases and additionally searched three Chinese databases (from January 1995) to identify all relevant publications. We performed random-effects meta-analyses to estimate the pooled odds ratio and 95% confidence interval (CI) for each risk factor and each outcome (RSV-ALRI in the community and RSV-ALRI hospitalisation).
RESULTS
A total of 47 studies were included (26 from the updated search). Indoor air pollution was identified as a possible risk factor for RSV-ALRI in the community (OR 1.45, 95% CI: 1.10-1.90). The identified risk factors for RSV-ALRI hospitalisation fall into four categories: demographic (male sex, Māori and Pacific ethnicities vs European or other ethnicities), pre- and post- neonatal (prematurity, low birth weight, small for gestational age, maternal smoking during pregnancy or lactation, maternal age <30 years vs 30-34 years, multiparity, caesarean section vs vaginal), household and environmental (having siblings, passive smoking, maternal asthma, daycare centre attendance), and health and medical conditions (any chronic diseases, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, HIV infections, congenital heart disease, Down syndrome, cystic fibrosis, previous asthma). The pooled ORs ranged from 1.14 to 4.55.
CONCLUSIONS
Our findings on the risk factors for RSV-ALRI help identify RSV high-risk groups, which has important implications for RSV prevention at both individual and population levels.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS
Colonoscopy has a vital role in the diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), as well as in the estimation of disease severity, monitoring response to therapy, and surveillance for neoplasia. We performed a systematic review of randomised trials of various bowel preparations for colonoscopy in IBD.
METHODS
We searched various electronic databases (PubMed, Embase, and CENTRAL) for studies reporting about the use of various strategies to improve colonoscopy preparation in IBD. We included only randomized clinical trials (RCTs). A network meta-analysis was done using a frequentist approach to compare the effectiveness of various bowel preparations. The risk of bias was assessed using Cochrane risk of bias tool 2.0. Other outcome parameters like compliance, tolerance, acceptance, and adverse effects were assessed qualitatively.
RESULTS
Seven RCTs reporting about 960 patients were included. On comparison with 4 liter (L) of poliethylen glycol (PEG), oral sulfate solution (OR=1.1, 95%CI: 0.65-1.86); PEG2L/Ascorbate (OR=0.98, 95%CI: 0.65-1.48); PEG1L (OR=1, 95%CI: 0.55-1.81); PEG2L plus bisacodyl (OR=1.08, 95%CI: 0.71-1.65); PEG4L plus simethicone (OR=1, 95%CI: 0.67-1.50); PEG/ sodium picosulfate and magnesium citrate (SPMC) 1.5L (OR=0.99, 95%CI: 0.55-1.78); SPMC 2L (OR=1.09, 95%CI: 0.61-1.97) had similar effectiveness. Three RCTs reported compliance, five RCTs reported tolerance, two studies reported patient acceptance and five RCTs reported data on the willingness of patients to repeat the procedure in the future. Low-volume preparations had better compliance, tolerance, acceptance, and willingness to repeat. No difference in additional outcomes like change in disease activity after colonoscopy, procedure-related outcomes after colonoscopy like cecal intubation rate, and change in electrolyte levels were found.
CONCLUSION
Various bowel preparations had similar effectiveness in respect to colonoscopy preparation in IBD patients. Low-volume preparations have better compliance, tolerance, and acceptance. The systematic review was limited by a small number of included RCTs.
