INTRODUCTION
Silver-releasing dressings are used in the treatment of infected wounds. Despite their widespread use, neither the amount of silver released nor the potential toxicity is known. The aim of this study was to evaluate the cytotoxic effects and the amount of silver released from commercially available dressings with infected wounds.
METHODS
The review was conducted according to the PRISMA statement. The Web of Science, PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and CINAHL databases were searched for studies from 2002 through December 2022. The criteria were as follows: population (human patients with infected wounds); intervention (commercial dressings with clinical silver authorized for use in humans); and outcomes (concentrations of silver ions released into tissues and plasma). Any study based on silver-free dressings, experimental dressings, or dressings not for clinical use in humans should be excluded. According to the type of study, systematic reviews, experimental, quasi-experimental, and observational studies in English, Spanish, or Portuguese were considered. The quality of the selected studies was assessed using the JBI critical appraisal tools. Studies that assessed at least 65% of the included items were included. Data were extracted independently by two reviewers.
RESULTS
740 articles were found and five were finally selected (all of them quasi-experimental). Heterogeneity was found in terms of study design, application of silver dressings, and methods of assessment, which limited the comparability between studies.
CONCLUSION
comparative studies of clinical dressings for control of infection lack a standardized methodology that allows observation of all the variables of silver performance at local and systemic levels, as well as evaluation of its cytotoxicity. It cannot be concluded whether the assessed concentrations of released silver in commercial dressings for the topical treatment of infected wounds are cytotoxic to skin cells.

Donor-derived cell-free DNA (dd-cfDNA) has emerged as a promising biomarker for detecting graft rejection. This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy and clinical value of applying it to kidney transplant rejection. Relevant literature on dd-cfDNA diagnostics in kidney transplant rejection was reviewed from PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases up to 2023. Data and study characteristics were extracted independently by two researchers, and disagreements were resolved through discussion. Diagnostic accuracy data for any rejection (AR) and antibody-mediated rejection (ABMR) were analyzed separately. Potential heterogeneity was analyzed by subgroup analysis or meta-regression. Funnel plots were used to clarify the presence or absence of publication bias. Nine publications provided data on dd-cfDNA accuracy in diagnosing patients with AR. The pooled sensitivity, specificity, and the area under the receiver operating characteristic (AUROC) curve with 95% confidence intervals (CI) were 0.59 (95% CI, 0.48-0.69), 0.83 (95% CI, 0.76-0.88), and 0.80 (95% CI, 0.76-0.83), respectively. Additionally, 12 studies focused on the diagnostic accuracy of dd-cfDNA for ABMR, showing pooled sensitivity, specificity, and the AUROC curve with 95% CI of 0.81 (95% CI, 0.72-0.88), 0.80 (95% CI, 0.73-0.86), and 0.87 (95% CI, 0.84-0.90), respectively. Study type, age group, and sample size contributed to heterogeneity. In summary, our findings indicate that while plasma dd-cfDNA accuracy in diagnosing patients with AR is limited by significant heterogeneity, it is a valuable biomarker for diagnosing ABMR.

BACKGROUND
Management for pelvic floor disorders needs to be improved. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) offers an innovative treatment in general medical care to promote cell regeneration.
OBJECTIVE
This review aims to investigate the role of PRP in pelvic floor disorders.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
6 international databases were accessed using several keywords namely PubMed, Science Direct, Cochrane Library, ProQuest, Google Scholar, and Scopus. The inclusion criteria were articles written in English, published in 10-yr period from 2012 until 2022, and investigated the relevant topic. This systematic review followed PRISMA guideline.
RESULTS
644 articles were found in several databases and 15 articles met the criteria. Management for pelvic floor disorders needs to be improved, but there are still many challenges, such as less effective treatments, risk of recurrence, and postoperative wound healing. PRP offers an innovative treatment in general medical care to promote cell regeneration. A total of 644 articles from the database were found, but 15 studies met the criteria. A total of 600 women with various pelvic floor disorders treated with PRP were analyzed. PRP positively impacts female sexual dysfunction, perineal trauma, vulvovaginal atrophy, stress urinary incontinence, vesicovaginal fistula, perineal rupture, and pelvic organ prolapse. Dosages, preparation techniques, injection techniques, and additive materials are varied. Most studies do not report side effects from the therapy, but the urinary disorder complaints must be paid attention to.
CONCLUSION
PRP can be used to manage pelvic floor disorders. Future studies should clarify and standardize the dose in each case and how to make PRP produce the best results.

Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a complex metabolic ailment marked by a global high prevalence and significant attention in primary healthcare settings due to its elevated morbidity and mortality rates. The pathophysiological mechanisms underlying the onset and progression of this disease remain subjects of ongoing investigation. Recent evidence underscores the pivotal role of the intricate intercellular communication network, wherein cell-derived vesicles, commonly referred to as extracellular vesicles (EVs), emerge as dynamic regulators of diabetes-related complications. Given that the protein cargo carried by EVs is contingent upon the metabolic conditions of the originating cells, particular proteins may serve as informative indicators for the risk of activating or inhibiting signaling pathways crucial to the progression of T2D complications.
METHODS
In this study, we conducted a systematic review to analyze the published evidence on the proteome of EVs from the plasma or serum of patients with T2D, both with and without complications (PROSPERO: CRD42023431464).
RESULTS
Nine eligible articles were systematically identified from the databases, and the proteins featured in these articles underwent Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analysis. We identified changes in the level of 426 proteins, with CST6, CD55, HBA1, S100A8, and S100A9 reported to have high levels, while FGL1 exhibited low levels.
CONCLUSION
These proteins are implicated in pathophysiological mechanisms such as inflammation, complement, and platelet activation, suggesting their potential as risk markers for T2D development and progression. Further studies are required to explore this topic in greater detail.

BACKGROUND
With promising outcomes, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has recently been suggested as a treatment for olfactory dysfunction (OD).
METHODS
Clinical studies utilizing PRP in OD caused by COVID-19, trauma, anesthetic exposure, viral infection, and chronic rhinosinusitis were included in a systematic review.
RESULTS
Ten clinical studies were qualitatively analyzed. Six of these studies used the PRP for OD caused by COVID-19, one on OD after functional endoscopic sinus surgery, and three on post-infectious or post-trauma OD. The population included 531 patients, ranging in age from 15 to 63.
CONCLUSION
The use of PRP may be a risk-free and efficient therapeutic option with very encouraging outcomes. Indeed, it enhances olfactory perception in patients who not only exhibit COVID-19 infection aftereffects, but also in those who have lost their sense of smell due to trauma, rhinosinusitis, rhinitis, or even surgery. To evaluate the PRP's therapeutic benefits in OD patients and to compare the efficacy of different therapeutic protocols with regard to treatment schedules, there is an urgent need for focused controlled trials.

Cancers are one of the most public health problems worldwide. Among them, cervical cancer (CC) is the fourth most prevalent cancer with 604 000 new cases and 342 000 deaths. Mostly, it is associated with Human papillomavirus (HPV). It has been caused by the aggregation of genetic and epigenetic modifications in cervical epithelial cells. Although genetic mutations are given great attention for the carcinogenesis of CC, epigenetic changes have emerged as a hotspot area for CC biomarkers research with great implications for early diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment response prediction of the disease. Recently, there are several studies focused on miRNAs as biomarkers of cervical cancer. However, the precise function of miRNAs in the development of cervical cancer is not still completely understood, particularly when it comes to unconventional sampling materials like cervical mucus and plasma serum. Hence, this review article will give a summary of the miRNAs profiles that emerge at different stages of cervical cancer progression and their downstream effects on target genes and associated signaling pathways. Finally, these results may provide insight into the use of miRNAs as biomarkers for the prediction or diagnosis of cervical cancer or the development of miRNA-based therapeutics against cervical cancer.

BACKGROUND
Osteochondral lesions of the talus are common in patients suffering even minor trauma; timely diagnosis and treatment can prevent the development of early osteoarthritis. The objectives of this systematic review and meta-analysis were to evaluate the effects of additional procedures on arthroscopic ankle microperforations for osteochondral lesions.
METHODS
A systematic literature search was conducted using PubMed-Medline, Cochrane Central, and Google Scholar to select clinical studies analyzing the efficacy of platelet-rich plasma (PRP), hyaluronic acid (HA), and bone marrow concentrate (BMC) procedures. Ten articles following PRISMA guidelines with a total of 464 patients were included in this review. Quality assessment using MINORS was performed, and all studies demonstrated high quality.
RESULTS
The results of the systematic review showed benefits in all patients undergoing infiltrative therapy with PRP, hyaluronic acid, and BMC. The best results in terms of AOFAS score and VAS scale were found in patients undergoing PRP injection. The meta-analysis showed improvements in pain relief and return to daily activities in patients undergoing arthroscopic microperforations and PRP, although not reporting statistically significant results (p = 0.42).
CONCLUSION
All treatment strategies reported better scores compared to the control groups. Among the various treatments analyzed, the addition of PRP appears to be the most valuable probably for the larger population receiving this treatment, showing excellent outcomes in pain reduction, clinical outcomes, and return to daily activities.

BACKGROUND
Regenerative techniques combined with core decompression (CD) are commonly used to treat osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH). However, no consensus exists on regeneration therapy combined with CD that performs optimally. Therefore, we evaluated six regenerative therapies combined with CD treatment using a Bayesian network meta-analysis (NMA).
METHODS
We searched PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases. Six common regeneration techniques were categorized into the following groups with CD as the control group: (1) autologous bone graft (ABG), (2) autologous bone graft combined with bone marrow aspirate concentrate (ABG + BMAC), (3) bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC), (4) free vascular autologous bone graft (FVBG), (5) expanded mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), and (6) platelet-rich plasma (PRP). The conversion rate to total hip arthroplasty (THA) and progression rate to femoral head necrosis were compared among the six treatments.
RESULT
A total of 17 literature were included in this study. In the NMA, two of the six treatment strategies demonstrated higher response in preventing the progression of ONFH than CD: MSCs (odds ratio [OR]: 0.098, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.0087-0.87) and BMAC (OR: 0.27, 95% CI: 0.073-0.73). Additionally, two of the six treatment strategies were effective techniques in preventing the conversion of ONFH to THA: MSCs (OR: 0.062, 95% CI: 0.0038-0.40) and BMAC (OR: 0.32, 95% CI: 0.1-0.074). No significant difference was found among FVBG, PRP, ABG + BMAC, ABG, and CD in preventing ONFH progression and conversion to THA (P > 0.05).
CONCLUSIONS
Our NMA found that MSCs and BMAC were effective in preventing ONFH progression and conversion to THA among the six regenerative therapies. According to the surface under the cumulative ranking value, MSCs ranked first, followed by BMAC. Additionally, based on our NMA results, MSCs and BMAC following CD may be necessary to prevent ONFH progression and conversion to THA. Therefore, these findings provide evidence for the use of regenerative therapy for ONFH.

A scoping review on the use of different blood sources and components in the artificial membrane feeding system and its effects on blood-feeding and fecundity rate of Aedes aegypti.
In some laboratories, mosquitoes' direct blood-feeding on live animals has been replaced with various membrane blood-feeding systems. The selection of blood meal sources used in membrane feeding is crucial in vector mass rearing as it influences the mosquitoes' development and reproductive fitness. Therefore, this scoping review aimed to evaluate the existing literature on the use of different blood sources and components in artificial membrane feeding systems and their effects on blood-feeding and the fecundity rate of Ae. aegypti. A literature review search was conducted by using PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA-ScR). The EndNote version 20 software was used to import all searched articles. Relevant information was retrieved for analysis into a Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet. A total of 104 full-text articles were assessed for eligibility criteria, whereby the articles should include the comparison between different types of blood source by using the membrane feeding systems. Only 16 articles were finally included in the analysis. Several studies had reported that human blood was superior in blood-feeding Ae. aegypti as compared to sheep blood which resulted in lower fecundity due to accumulation of free fatty acids (FFA) in the cuticles. In contrast, cattle whole blood and pig whole blood showed no significant differences in the blood-feeding and fecundity rate as compared to human blood. This review also indicated that bovine whole blood and pig whole blood enhanced Ae. aegypti's vitellogenesis and egg production as compared to plasma and blood cells. In addition, human blood of up to 10 days after the expiration date could still be used to establish Ae. aegypti colonies with good blood-feeding rates and number of eggs produced. Thus, future studies must consider the importance of selecting suitable blood sources and components for membrane blood feeding especially in mosquito colonisation and control measure studies.

OBJECTIVES
Multiple myeloma (MM) is a malignant plasma cell disorder. The most widely accepted staging system for MM is the revised International Staging System based on cytogenetic and clinical biomarkers. The circulating clonal plasma cells (CPCs) were reported to have potential prognostic impact on MM. Among various diagnostic approaches, multiparametric flow cytometry (FCM) offers heightened sensitivity, minimal invasiveness and reproducibility. We conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate the prognostic value of quantifying CPCs via FCM in newly diagnosed symptomatic MM (NDMM) patients.
DESIGN
Systematic review and meta-analysis.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR SELECTING STUDIES
We included observational studies that evaluated the prognostic value of CPCs detected by FCM in NDMM.
DATA EXTRACTION AND SYNTHESIS
Data were screened and extracted independently by two investigators. The pooled results originated from random effects models. The primary endpoint was overall survival (OS). The secondary endpoint was progression-free survival (PFS). To evaluate the prognostic value of CPCs in NDMM, HRs and their 95% CI for both OS and PFS were derived using COX multivariable models. These values were then used to compute the pooled estimated effect.
RESULTS
Our meta-analysis encompassed a total of 2704 NDMM patients from 11 studies up to 27 August 2022. The pooled HR for OS and PFS in CPC-positive (CPCs+) group and CPC-negative group were 1.95 (95% CI 1.24 to 3.07) and 2.07 (95% CI 1.79 to 2.39), respectively. The autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) failed to eliminate the adverse impact on OS and PFS. The heterogeneity may stem from the use of novel agents or traditional chemotherapy as initial treatment.
CONCLUSION
This meta-analysis indicates CPCs+ had an adverse impact on the prognosis of NDMM patients in the total population, and the adverse impact could not be eliminated by ASCT.
