Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with high incidence, low awareness, and high disability rates among the population. Moreover, the disease significantly affects the physical and mental health of patients. Approximately 25% of patients with CKD develop end-stage renal disease (ESRD) within 20 years of diagnosis and have to rely on renal replacement therapy, which is associated with high mortality, heavy economic burden, and symptoms including fatigue, pain, insomnia, uremia pruritus, and restless leg syndrome. Currently, the means to delay the progress of CKD are insufficient; therefore, developing strategies for delaying CKD progression has important practical implications. In recent years, more and more people are accepting the traditional Chinese medical technique "acupuncture." Acupuncture has been shown to improve the uncomfortable symptoms of various diseases through stimulation (needling, medicinal moxibustion, infrared radiation, and acupressure) of acupoints. Its application has been known for thousands of years, and its safety and efficacy have been verified. As a convenient and inexpensive complementary therapy for CKD, acupuncture has recently been gaining interest among clinicians and scientists. Nevertheless, although clinical trials and meta-analysis findings have demonstrated the efficacy of acupuncture in reducing albuminuria, improving glomerular filtration rate, relieving symptoms, and improving the quality of life of patients with CKD, the underlying mechanisms involved are still not completely understood. Few studies explored the correlation between acupuncture and renal pathological diagnosis. The aim of this study was to conduct a literature review summarizing the currently known mechanisms by which acupuncture could delay the progress of CKD and improve symptoms in patients with ESRD. This review help provide a theoretical basis for further research regarding the influence of acupuncture on renal pathology in patients with CKD, as well as the differences between specific therapeutic mechanisms of acupuncture in different renal pathological diagnosis. The evidence in this review indicates that acupuncture may produce marked effects on blocking and reversing the critical risk factors of CKD progression (e.g., hyperglycemia, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, obesity, aging, and anemia) to improve the survival of patients with CKD mechanisms including oxidative stress inhibition, reducing inflammatory effects, improving hemodynamics, maintaining podocyte structure, and increasing energy metabolism.

Efficacy and safety of self-administered acupressure on symptoms, quality of life and nasal mucosal function in patients with perennial allergic rhinitis: study protocol for a randomized controlled exploratory trial.
INTRODUCTION
Allergic rhinitis is a global health problem that can potentially be managed through acupressure. Our clinical observations have identified Allergic Rhinitis Acupressure Therapeutic (ARAT) as a novel acupressure treatment acting on specific acupoints, which may enhance the effectiveness of acupressure. Therefore, we propose a three-arm randomized controlled trial will be conducted to investigate the efficacy and safety of ARAT for perennial allergic rhinitis (PAR).
METHODS/DESIGN
In this trial, eligible 111 participants diagnosed with PAR will be randomly assigned to one of three groups: the ARAT group, the non-specific acupoints group, or the blank control group. The primary outcome will be the change in the total nasal symptom score, and the secondary outcomes will include: 1) changes in the scores of the standard version of Rhinoconjunctivitis Quality of Life Questionnaire (RQLQs); 2) acoustic rhinometry and anterior rhinomanometry; 3) changes in the scores of relief medication usage; 4) incidence of adverse events. Additionally, we will measure and compare the changes in cytokine levels (IL-5, IL-13, IFN-γ, and TSLP) in nasal secretions. The RQLQs and primary outcomes will be assessed at the beginning, middle, and end stages of the treatment period, with monthly follow-ups conducted over a total of three months. The secondary outcomes and biomarkers in nasal secretions will be measured at the beginning and end of the treatment period. Any adverse events or need for rescue medication will be carefully noted and recorded.
DISCUSSION
This study may produce a new acupressure treatment prescription that is easy to learn, more targeted, and adaptable. This trial represents the first clinical investigation comparing ARAT treatment for PAR with the non-specific acupoints group and blank control group. Our data is expected to provide evidence demonstrating the safety and efficacy of ARAT for PAR patients, while also exploring the functional mechanism underlying ARAT treatment, moreover, the results offer valuable insights for healthcare professionals in managing PAR symptoms.

OBJECTIVE
To evaluate the feasibility of the somatic acupressure (SA) for managing the fatigue-sleep disturbance-depression symptom cluster (FSDSC) among breast cancer (BC) survivors and its preliminary effects.
METHODS
In this Phase II randomized controlled trial (RCT), 51 participants were randomised evenly into the true SA group, sham SA group, and usual care group. All the participants received usual care. The two SA groups performed additional true or sham self-acupressure daily for seven weeks. The primary outcomes related to the assessment of participants' recruitment and compliance with study questionnaires and interventions. Clinical outcomes assessed the preliminary effects of SA on fatigue, sleep disturbance, depression, and quality of life. Semi-structured interviews were undertaken to capture participants' experiences of participating in this study. The statistical effects of the intervention on the outcomes were modelled in repeated measures ANOVA and adjusted generalized estimating equations.
RESULTS
Forty-five participants completed the SA intervention. No adverse events were reported. Over 85% of the participants could sustain for 25 days or more and 15 min or more per session, but the adherence to the intervention requirement was yet to improve. The group by time effect of the FSDSC and depression were significant (p < 0.05). Qualitative findings showed that participants positively viewed SA as a beneficial strategy for symptom management.
CONCLUSIONS
The SA intervention protocol and the trial procedures were feasible. The results demonstrated signs of improvements in targeted outcomes, and a full-scale RCT is warranted to validate the effects of SA on the FSDSC.

More people use the internet for medical information, especially YouTube. Nevertheless, no study has been conducted to analyze the quality of YouTube videos about tinnitus in Korea. This study aims to review the contents and quality of YouTube videos on tinnitus. The top 100 Korean YouTube videos on tinnitus were reviewed by a tinnitus expert. This study assessed video details: title, creator, length, and popularity indicators-subscribers, views, and likes. The contents of the video clips were analyzed to determine the relevance, understandability, actionability, and quality of information. Out of 100 tinnitus videos, 27 were created by otolaryngologists, 25 by traditional Korean medicine doctors, 25 by other medical professionals, and 3 by lay persons. Sensorineural tinnitus was frequently dealt, and hearing loss, stress, and noise were introduced as main causes of tinnitus. Otolaryngologists' videos covered verified treatments, but others suggested unproven therapies including herbal medicine or acupressure. Otolaryngologists' videos showed significantly higher understandability and quality of information compared to others (p < 0.001). This study found that tinnitus YouTube videos frequently present low-quality and incorrect material, which could have an adverse effect on patients. Results highlight the need for tinnitus specialists to provide accurate information.

Comparison of the Effects of Self-Administered Moxibustion versus Acupressure on Blood Pressure, Stress, Sleep Quality, and Quality of Life in Hypertensive Patients: A Randomized Parallel Trial.
This study aimed to evaluate the effects of an 8-week self-administered moxibustion program on blood pressure, stress, sleep quality, and quality of life in hypertensive patients. We compared its effects with those of self-acupressure to assess the feasibility of using moxibustion as a self-management method for hypertension. Forty-six subjects were recruited and randomly assigned to a moxibustion group and an acupressure group. The moxibustion group applied moxa sticks to seven acupoints by themselves five times a week for 8 weeks, while the acupressure group placed acupressure patches on the same acupoints by themselves. Systolic and diastolic blood pressures were measured. Stress was assessed with plasma epinephrine, plasma norepinephrine, and the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS). Sleep quality and quality of life were evaluated using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and the World Health Organization Quality of Life-Brief Version (WHOQOL-BREF), respectively. Systolic and diastolic blood pressures decreased in the moxibustion and acupressure groups to a similar extent after the 8-week intervention. Plasma epinephrine and norepinephrine levels and PSQI variables were not changed in both groups. PSS decreased only in the moxibustion group. Quality of life related to physical health and environmental health, as assessed by the WHOQOL-BREF, significantly improved to a similar degree in both groups. Both self-administered moxibustion and acupressure therapies were effective in reducing blood pressure in hypertensive patients.

BACKGROUND
Chemotherapy, as well as opioid and antiemetic drugs, can contribute to constipation in oncological patients. This systematic review aims to analyse the potential of specific rehabilitation strategies and alternative strategies for improving constipation symptoms, with the goal of incorporating these strategies into a dedicated protocol for managing cancer-related constipation. This could potentially reduce the dosages of or eliminate the need for constipation medications.
METHODS
A systematic search was conducted on PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science. The review included studies analysing constipation complaints in cancer patients treated with rehabilitation, acupuncture and osteopathy.
RESULTS
The review included 16 studies in line with PRISMA and PICOS criteria. Most studies showed that physical exercise, abdominal massage, TENS, acupuncture and education on the correct defecation position positively impacted the management of constipation and quality of life in oncological patients. A physiotherapy program involving massages as well as aerobic and resistance training improved constipation in oncological women, regardless of age, sex and frailty. A combination of abdominal massage, abdominal muscle stretching and education on proper defecation position alleviated the severity of constipation and related depression. However, the outcomes regarding TENS were yet inconsistent. Another technique, becoming increasingly common for constipation, and demonstrating positive results, involved stimulating trigger points through acupressure and acupuncture. Conversely, osteopathic and superficial manipulations more frequently required constipation medications than did the other alternative approaches. However, no existing studies have proposed a specific protocol to manage cancer-related constipation.
CONCLUSIONS
The results of the studies confirm the positive influences of rehabilitation, osteopathy and acupuncture on constipation and pain in oncological patients. Nevertheless, further studies are required to establish the best type, timing and duration of treatment, as well as how the stage and location of the cancer and the cause of constipation (drug-induced or functional) impact the results.

During the coronavirus disease 2019 epidemic, acupressure has been widely used as a complementary treatment for coronavirus disease 2019 in China, but its safety and effectiveness have not been determined until now. This was a prospectively observational study containing 400 cases of mild infection of Omicron who were admitted to Chongming Flower Expo Makeshift Hospital from April 1, 2022 to May 1, 2022. Patients were assigned to receive basic treatment or a combination with acupressure treatment (5 minutes per acupoint, at least twice daily), from admission to discharge. The conversion time of viral RNA assay, the recovery time of symptoms and the clinical cure rate at day 7 were compared in 2 groups. All cases were included in the final analysis. The time to conversion of viral RNA assay (6 vs 7 days, P < .001) and time to symptom recovery (2 vs 4 days, P < .001) were markedly shortened in the acupressure treatment group compared to controls. The time to recovery from individual symptoms of coughing, a sore throat, a fever, fatigue, poor appetite, and insomnia were shorter in the treatment group compared to the control (all P < .05), but there was no statistical difference in reducing the recovery time from headache, muscle ache, anxiety, loss of taste between 2 groups (all P > .05). In addition, acupressure therapy also revealed a higher clinical cure rate at day 7 than basic treatment alone (91% vs 65%, P < .001) and reported no serious adverse events. This study provided evidence for acupressure therapy in treatment of Omicron infection concerning the viral load disappearance and the clinical symptoms improvements. Findings were expected to help guide efforts to position acupressure therapy as a therapeutic option for patients with Omicron variant.

The main purpose of the present study was to assess the effect of acupressure on preventing constipation in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) under primary percutaneous coronary intervention. : The present randomized clinical trial was conducted on 90 patients with AMI (30 patients in each group) who were randomly allocated based on inclusion criteria. The intervention was carried out among the patients with AMI on the acupressure points SJ6, LI4, ST25, and SP6 two times a day (10 am and 6 pm) for three sequential days. : On the first and second days of the study, all of the patients had no defecation, and the first defecation occurred on the third day of the study. In the intervention, sham, and control groups, 93.3%, 46.7%, and 50.0% had normal defecation on the third day of the study, respectively. The results of the Chi-square test revealed significant differences among the three groups (<0.001). : The results of the present study showed that patients with AMI in the intervention group had significant improvement in terms of stool consistency based on the Bristol stool scale. So, acupressure can be used as a nursing intervention in critical care units.

BACKGROUND
Subsequent to coronary angiography, procedures performed to prevent bleeding may cause pain in the patient. In this study, we aimed to determine the effect of acupressure on pain level and hemodynamic parameters in patients undergoing coronary angiography.
METHOD
In this prospective, a two-arm (1:1), randomized controlled trial was conducted, with 124 patients undergoing coronary angiography included. The randomly assigned study group ( = 62) received acupressure on the LI4 (on the dorsum of the hand, between the 1st and 2nd metacarpal bones), PC6 (three fingers above the wrist), and LI11 (at the lateral end of the transverse cubital crease) points for 15 min 2 h after angiography, while the control group ( = 62) received no acupressure. Data were collected using the visual pain scale (VAS) and hemodynamic parameters [systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), heart rate (HR), respiratory rate (RR), and peripheral oxygen saturation (SpO)], monitoring form before, immediately after, and at 10, 20, and 30 min after acupressure.
RESULTS
In the study, it was found that patients had moderate pain after coronary angiography (study group: 5.02 ± 2.27; control group: 3.98 ± 1.82). When the groups were compared, it was found that the VAS score of the study group before angiography was significantly higher than that of the control group, but lower than the control group immediately after acupressure, and at 10, 20, and 30 min after acupressure. In addition, it was determined that acupressure was significantly higher in DBP and RR in the study group compared to the control group at 20 and 30 min; it was not effective in terms of SBP, HR, and SpO values.
CONCLUSION
The results of the study indicated that patients reported moderate pain after coronary angiography, and that acupressure was effective in reducing the pain level, but affected only the DBP and RR hemodynamic parameters. Since the study was single-centered and followed for a short time, it is recommended to conduct new studies with a longer duration.

BACKGROUND
Due to the rapid spread of the coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19), most of the patients expressed a reluctance to undergo postoperative rehabilitation at a rehabilitation clinic. Therefore, in this scenario it was necessary to reshape the crucial role of postoperative rehabilitation of these patients. We conducted a telerehabilitation program based on an artificial intelligence brace (AI brace) which can monitor the progress of rehabilitation through an app and an internet server. Our hypothesis was that home-based telerehabilitation might provide clinical outcomes comparable to face-to-face, hospital-based rehabilitation programs in terms of effectiveness.
METHODS
A retrospective cohort study enrolled patients who received anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) between January and September 2020. Patients were divided into two groups: the tele-AI group received telerehabilitation with an AI brace while the FTF group had face-to-face, hospital-based rehabilitation. Clinical knee functional scores and Tegner Activity Scale (TAS) were assessed and analyzed until 12 months after the operation.
RESULTS
The tele-AI group had higher IKDC scores at 3 months ( = 0.0443) and 6 months ( = 0.0052) after surgery and higher KOOS scores at 1 month ( = 0.0365) and 6 months ( = 0.0375) after surgery. However, no significant difference between the two groups was detected at the end of the follow-up. The tele-AI group had higher TAS than FTF group after 1 year.
CONCLUSIONS
Telerehabilitation after ACLR seems to provide a superior short-term outcome compared to hospital-based rehabilitation during the COVID-19 pandemic.
