AIM
To examine speed and accuracy of newborn heart rate measurement by various assessment methods employed at birth.
METHODS
A search of Medline, SCOPUS, CINAHL and Cochrane was conducted between January 1, 1946, to until August 16, 2023. (CRD 42021283364) Study selection was based on predetermined criteria. Reviewers independently extracted data, appraised risk of bias and assessed certainty of evidence.
RESULTS
Pulse oximetry is slower and less precise than ECG for heart rate assessment. Both auscultation and palpation are imprecise for heart rate assessment. Other devices such as digital stethoscope, Doppler ultrasound, an ECG device using dry electrodes incorporated in a belt, photoplethysmography and electromyography are studied in small numbers of newborns and data are not available for extremely preterm or bradycardic newborns receiving resuscitation. Digital stethoscope is fast and accurate. Doppler ultrasound and dry electrode ECG in a belt are fast, accurate and precise when compared to conventional ECG with gel adhesive electrodes.
LIMITATIONS
Certainty of evidence was low or very low for most comparisons.
CONCLUSION
If resources permit, ECG should be used for fast and accurate heart rate assessment at birth. Pulse oximetry and auscultation may be reasonable alternatives but have limitations. Digital stethoscope, doppler ultrasound and dry electrode ECG show promise but need further study.

BACKGROUND
Patient-reported outcome (PRO) is a distinct and indispensable dimension of clinical characteristics and recent advances have made remote PRO measurement possible. Sex difference in PRO of Parkinson's disease (PD) is hardly extensively researched.
METHODS
A smartphone-based self-management platform, offering remote PRO measurement for PD patients, has been developed. A total of 1828 PD patients, including 1001 male patients and 827 female patients, were enrolled and completed their PRO submission through this platform.
RESULTS
Sex differences in PROs have been identified. The female group had a significantly lower height, weight, and body mass index (BMI) than the male group (P < 0.001). For motor symptoms, a higher proportion of patients reporting dyskinesia was observed in the female group. For non-motor symptoms, there is a higher percentage (P < 0.001) as well as severity (P = 0.016) of depression in the female group. More male patients reported hyposmia, lisp, drooling, dysuria, frequent urination, hypersexuality, impotence, daytime sleepiness, and apathy than females (P < 0.05). In contrast, more female patients reported headache, palpation, body pain, anorexia, nausea, urinal incontinence, anxiety, insomnia (P < 0.05) than males.
CONCLUSIONS
We provide evidence for sex differences in PD through the data collected from our platform. These results highlighted the importance of gender in clinical decision-making, and also support the feasibility of remote PRO measurement through a smartphone-based self-management platform in patients with PD.

BACKGROUND
Salivary gland tumors are relatively rare. Most minor salivary gland tumors are malignant with benign tumors accounting for 18% of the tumors. Pleomorphic adenoma (PA) is the most common salivary gland tumor. Lip PA is uncommon with 9.8% occurring in the upper lip. We are adding on the knowledge of the rare upper lip PA (benign mixed tumor).
CASE SUMMARY
We report an upper lip PA (benign mixed tumor) in a 28-year-old man. His complaint was a painless swelling on the upper lip. A painless, non-tender, well-circumscribed, slightly mobile, sessile, nodular, and rubbery (in consistency) tumor measuring 5.0 cm x 2.0 cm was noted on the left side of his upper lip. The overlying skin was not fixed and of normal color. There was no ulceration, and palpation did not elicit pain or bleeding. There was no history of trauma. Blunt dissection was used to completely excise the nodular, whitish, and encapsulated tumor. Microscopy showed a well-circumscribed and partly encapsulated biphasic lesion, with large lobules of myxo-chondroid stroma and intervening cellular nodules of basaloid cells, well-formed tubules containing eosinic secretion, and nests of myoepithelial cells. A diagnosis of PA (benign mixed tumor) was confirmed.
CONCLUSION
Blunt dissection is indicated to preserve the cosmesis and function of the upper lip.

INTRODUCTION
Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) for thyroid nodules has a high diagnostic accuracy, according to several studies worldwide. Patients who experienced preoperative FNAC had more optimal surgical treatment than others who did not perform FNAC. Therefore, achieving an accurate FNAC procedure appears to be an important tool for the proper management of thyroid nodules. We aimed to study the accuracy and challenges of the thyroid FNAC diagnostic tool in the Al-Baha region, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
METHODS
The study involves 52 patients with thyroid nodules who underwent preoperative FNAC and postoperative histopathology with the same surgery and pathology team at Al-Baha region in 2022-2023.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION
The mean age of the included patients was 47.7 years, with a female predominance. The diagnostic accuracy was 90%, and the main cause of inaccurate diagnosis was processing challenges, where the majority of cases were taken on the palpation-only technique, a few cases were ultrasound-guided, and the only technique used in the laboratory was conventional smears. The applied interrater reliability Cohen kappa coefficient (κ) for the clinical-histopathological agreement was "moderate agreement". We recommend using and evaluating more cytological techniques in addition to the currently used conventional smears in pathology laboratories to enhance the efficacy of the FNAC diagnosis of thyroid lesions.

Peyronie's disease (PD) affects the penile albuginea, resulting in penile deformity, pain, erectile dysfunction (ED), and an anxious-depressive state. PD diagnosis involves a thorough medical history, penile palpation, documentation of the penile deformation, a dynamic penile echo color Doppler ultrasound (PCDU), and the completion of questionnaires for the evaluation of pain, ED, and psychometric tests. The aim of this study was to evaluate the symptoms of PD and their prevalence in PD patients in the active phase who had access to our andrology clinic. Inclusion criteria: availability of data on patients diagnosed with PD, including detailed medical history, blood tests, penile palpation, photographic documentation of penile deformity, and penile PCDU. Exclusion criteria: PD patients in the stable phase or those without the specified tests and data mentioned above. Our study found a higher prevalence of PD in younger patients (24.2%), a higher coexistence of PD with chronic prostatitis (35.6%), a higher percentage of cases of association between penile deformity and penile curvature (84.4%), a higher prevalence of "significant anxiety" (88.4%), a higher presence of plaque calcification (35.6%), and the detection of a longer duration of the first phase of PD (>18 months). The most frequently observed type of penile curvature was dorsal, followed by left lateral, right lateral, and, less commonly, ventral. We observed a significant statistical correlation between patient age and IIEF score, indicating that patients over the age of 40 years are at a higher risk of experiencing ED. We found a strong statistical relationship between VAS score and age. As age increases, the VAS score decreases, suggesting that younger patients reported more penile pain compared to those who were older than 40 years. Furthermore, we found that penile pain has a significant impact on the psychological state of PD patients. We also found that 38.8% of PD patients suffered from severe anxiety. In relation to this, psychotherapy should be integrated into PD treatment to improve the quality of life and treatment adherence.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic disease characterized by different cell infiltrates in the intestine. The aims of this study were to report the clinical and clinicopathological findings in horses with histological changes compatible with IBD in the duodenum. Further, the clinical progression of IBD and survival were investigated. Patient records were reviewed for horses in which histological evidence of IBD was found in duodenal biopsies collected during endoscopy. The histological changes were classified as mild, moderate or severe and the predominant infiltrating cell type was recorded. Clinical improvement was assessed by the owner via a questionnaire at 6 weeks after biopsy, along with survival after one year. In total, 149 horses were included, and the most common clinical signs were weight loss, reduced performance and pain during abdominal palpation. Most horses showed partial malabsorption during an oral glucose absorption test, and the horses with severe IBD had lower serum protein concentrations. Lymphoplasmacytic enteritis was the most common type of IBD (78.5% of cases), while in six horses neutrophilic infiltration of the duodenum was present. Overall, 71% of the cases had improved clinically after six weeks, mostly following treatment with corticosteroids. The results of a second biopsy were a poor predictor of improvement, and the horses that improved after 6 weeks were more likely to be alive after one year.

INTRODUCTION
The Morel-Lavallee lesion (MLL) is a closed, degloving soft-tissue injury, wherein the skin and subcutaneous tissue are separated from the underlying fascia. This syndrome causes disruption of wound healing. Infrared thermography is a noninvasive and pain-free tool that can be used to evaluate scar and the influence of osteopathic manipulative treatment.
OBJECTIVE
To evaluate the influence of post-operative osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) of Morel-Lavallee lesions (MLL).
METHODS
During four osteopathic sessions on one volunteer patient, 28-year-old male, resulting in MLL of the left knee after motorcycle accident. The effects of OMT were assessed using an infrared thermal imaging camera and qualitative palpation examination of osteopathic dysfunction, scored on a scale of 1-4.
RESULTS
and discussion: Both scar and peri-scar area temperatures increased after OMT. The difference in temperature between the scar and the peri-scar area decreased after OMT. Increase in temperature was greater when the OMT was applied around the scar than when applied at a distance from the scar site. The palpation score for dysfunction of the MLL scar site decreased from 4/4 to 2/4 after the final session.
CONCLUSION
Several OMT sessions focusing on the MLL scar site appear necessary to obtain noteworthy results. OMT improved mobility and increased the temperature of the scar and the peri-scar area.

INTRODUCTION
Tumours of salivary glands are rare and have various histo-pathological subtypes. Myoepitheliomas were first classified by Sheldon et al. and the criterion to classify or diagnose it was first defined by Barnes et al. and Sciubba and Brannon. Myoepithelioma accounts for less than 1 % of all salivary gland tumours, 40 % of these tumours occur in the parotid gland while 21 % occur in the minor salivary glands. A case of myoepithelioma of a minor salivary gland of the cheek is described, emphasizing the problems of the differential diagnosis.
PRESENTATION OF THE CASE
A 40-year-old female reported to the department with a complaint of a cheek bite on her right side for a few months. The physical examination showed a presence of lobulated whitish mucosa on the right buccal mucosa at the level of the occlusal plane, on palpation it revealed a non-painful mass approximately 1.5 cm in radius, mobile to bimanual palpation. An excisional biopsy was performed under local anaesthesia. Microscopic and immunohistochemistry confirmed the tumour to be a myoepithelioma of a minor salivary gland with the absence of definitive features of malignancy.
DISCUSSION
Due to their infrequency and multiplicity of histopathology, myoepitheliomas present difficulties in diagnosis. Cellular varieties can be misdiagnosed as malignancies. A key to determining diagnostic criteria for myoepitheliomas is to study cellular morphology, cytoplasmic filament expression, and ultrastructural features of the tumour and apply this information to defining myoepitheliomas.
CONCLUSION
Myoepitheliomas are rare tumours, utilization of immunohistochemical staining and electron microscopy are useful tools for the diagnosis of myoepitheliomas to ensure proper treatment and follow-up.

Most genetic variants associated with fertility in mammals fall in non-coding regions of the genome and it is unclear how these variants affect fertility. Here we use genome-wide association summary statistics for Heifer puberty (pubertal or not at 600 days) from 27,707 Bos indicus, Bos taurus and crossbred cattle; multi-trait GWAS signals from 2119 indicine cattle for four fertility traits, including days to calving, age at first calving, pregnancy status, and foetus age in weeks (assessed by rectal palpation of the foetus); and expression quantitative trait locus for whole blood from 489 indicine cattle, to identify 87 putatively functional genes affecting cattle fertility. Our analysis reveals a significant overlap between the set of cattle and previously reported human fertility-related genes, impling the existence of a shared pool of genes that regulate fertility in mammals. These findings are crucial for developing approaches to improve fertility in cattle and potentially other mammals.

This study aimed to investigate the selected anatomical factors that can potentially influence temporomandibular joint (TMJ) clicking in young adults by assessing TMJ structures and lateral pterygoid muscle (LPM) function using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The patients were divided into four groups: the healthy control group; the clicking on mouth opening group; the clicking on mouth closing group; and the clicking on mouth opening and closing group. Additionally, we used clinical palpation to evaluate the masticatory muscles' functional state and employed MRI using the OCOR-T1WI-FSE-CLOSED, OSAG-PDW-FSE-CLOSED, and OSAG-PDW-FSE-OPEN sequences to analyze the texture of the lateral pterygoid muscle (LPM). The proportion of any articular disc or condylar morphology class did not differ significantly between the TMJ clicking and HC groups. The articular disc position did not differ significantly between the TMJ clicking and HC groups. In the TMJ clicking group, the presence of masticatory muscle dysfunction differed significantly between the clicking and non-clicking sides. Moreover, the LPM accounted for the highest proportion among masticatory muscles with tenderness in all TMJ clicking subgroups (77.78%-100%). Therefore, in the TMJ clicking group, the LPM texture was less defined, more uniform in gray scale, and more similar to local texture ( < 0.0001). The occurrence of TMJ clicking in young adults is unrelated to the TMJ structure but related to the function of masticatory muscles, particularly the LPM.
